Can't login in to local admin account

Here at work, we have an Xserve that will not let us log in to it. We've tried the admin account, root, booting from a CD to reset password, using Terminal to rest password. All attempts have failed.
If any of you know of an alternative way to log into the server, please pass along a suggestion. Many thanks!
It is an Xserve running 10.6.6 accessed via KVM or ARD. Yes, it is bound to AD. This a stumper! If you need any more info, let me know.

with the talk about NOT using the admin account
What talk might that be? I only run my single-user, home machine from an admin account.
It appears that I successflully create this account but when I switch to it, I can't log in. I get the shaking log in screen.
IIRC, that indicates that you unsuccessfully created that non-admin user account. If it were me, I'd delete it and carry on as you have the past five years.

  • Can't Login to Local Admin Account

Over the weekend I rebuilt an OS X 10.4.10 Server.
I created a local admin account, then set up DNS & OpenDirectory Master. I created some admin accounts in the domain.
I also set up a Panther Server as "Connected to a Directory System" and joined it to the Kerberos server on the 10.4 server.
All the clients are connecting to the domain, and everything is working except I can't log in to the 10.4 server with the local directory accounts anymore. I have created a new account in the local directory and tried changing the passwords, but nothing works for logging into the local directory admin accounts. With the exception that I am able to SSh into the local directory accounts.
    Any suggestions?

  • How to Reset Password of User while not connected to Domain using Local Admin Account

How to Reset Password of User while not connected to the Domain using Local Admin Account
(I have the use of a local admin account), and I want to help a user reset their password who has logged in the PC and had their credentials cached, but forgot this password.
    In Local Admin Account :
When I go to Control Panel, users, users, manager user ; I cannot see any users in this window except the local admin account, and, so I cannot reset a user password this way.
When I go to lusrmgr.msc, then users ; the local admin account will display only.
If I go to command prompt and type "net user", this will not display any users who have logged in to the computer, and so I cannot use "net user" to reset a password.
I don't want to use any disks, 3rd party programs, or create a VPN connection to the domain.  I just want to help a user who calls in and forgets their password.

    Hello Keith,
I know this is an old thread but I'm trying to better understand how I could change the domain password while not on the network. What I'm getting from your post is that you:
    1. Create a local user account (not a domain user)
    2. Login with that local user account
    3. Connect to the VPN while logged in as a local user
    4. Log out of the local account and login with the domain credentials
Now, my question is based on the assumption that the password created on the local account is the same password that one will use to login to the domain account? Also, is the local user account the same as the domain account?
    Thanking you in advance!

  • TS not enabling local admin account

    Hi all
I am running sccm 2012 r2 and am having trouble with a ts not enabling the local admin account. WHat i am trying to do with the ts is add the machine to a workgroup, dont install config manager client and enable the local admin account with a password set
in the ts. It all works ok except for the local admin account remaining disabled.
    Any ideas greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    SCCM is a beast

As Torsten already said, the Task schould not be removed. (" This task sequence step is a required part of any operating system deployment."
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh846237.aspx#BKMK_SetupWindowsandConfigMgr) If you want to remove the CM Agent you could execute "ccmsetup.exe /uninstall" at the end of the TS.

  • Built-in Admin and local admin accounts can not logon locally

When I attempt to logon locally to a Windows 7client as the built-in administrator or local admin I receive the message "You can not logon because the logon method you are using is not allowed on this computer"
I can logon as a network administrator.  I run gpedit.msc to see the current group policy.
Local Computer Policy/Windows settings/Security settings/Local policy/User Rights Assignment/Allow log on locally is set to EVERYONE, Administrators
Local Computer Policy/Windows settings/Security settings/Local policy/User Rights Assignment/Deny log on locally is set to NONE
This makes no sense as to why the local admin or built admin cannot logon.

    Hi,
What is the network environment? Are you in a domain? Group Policy processing has a precedence, local GPO has the lowest priority, please make sure that it's not overwritten by other GPOs.
After setting the policy, make sure to run gpupdate /force to update the policy.
Does this issue happen only on this specific computer? Another situation is that the profile is corrupted, delete the profile and recreate one, and check if it works.

  • Can't run programs from non-admin account: redux

Background: I have years of experience with PCs, very little with Macs. I work with children in a group home. The tech support people who set up this iMac (OS X 10.2) have long since departed, and no one in the organization has any clue as to what changes they made to this system, and I'm sure that those tech people made some changes. For example, in admin accounts other than "root," either there is no access to the Utilities folder or the folder has been well hidden.
The Problem: The boys in this home will use a non-admin account. The programs I have installed for them will run under admin accounts but not under the "boys" account, which is non-admin. The system tells me that the account does not have enough access privileges to run the programs. (Program that had been installed before I got access to this iMac will run under the "boys" account.)
In discussions on this forum several months ago, I thought the answers I got here had helped me solve the problem. Then, for administrative reasons, I did not touch the iMac until last week. What I thought had been solved is not solved.
From "root," using the "Capabilities" option in the Accounts folder, I have added to the "Add other applications..." section the programs I want "boys" to have access to. But this doesn't work. When I log in to "boys," access is denied: insufficient access privileges.
If I give up on this system, the boys will not be able to use this iMac, and that would be a shame.

I realize that it sounds like I ignored all the previous advice before I drafted this latest post. But the first thing I did when I returned to the iMac was to look at the posts.
I didn't touch the system for six months. I was waiting for approval from administration to upgrade the OS. By the time I got the approval, upgrading was no longer an option -- according to the manager of the local Genius Bar. This system is not capable of running 10.5, and Apple will no longer sell 10.4. I can find 10.4 on the Net, but those are private sellers and the price is too high.
Now that I've got that out of the way, the current task: I have no idea why, but the gains I accomplished six months ago have disappeared. The "boys" account can run none of the software I installed. No one else has touched the system. (I live alone.)
I logged on as "root" and went to Accounts. Using 10.2's Capabilities function, I tried to check all the boxes for "boys." But when I close the screen and then re-open it, the system has unchecked "Open all System Preferences"; "Change Password"; and access to "Utilities."
At this point I cannot create new folders under "boys." "boys" can run software that was installed before I got the machine, but that's all.
I have to assume that I inadvertently did something that wiped out my previous gains. But I ain't got a clue.

  • Can't login to Skype with Microsoft account

    Hello!
My problem is I can't login to Skype (website and program both) with Microsoft account. When I try to login to Skype on website, it says: There is a problem signing in with Microsoft account. Please try again or sign in with Skype details instead.
Please help me, I tried so many things and nothing works...

And me. And I tried to reset my password by getting the "password token" emailed to me. Once received I clicked on the link to reset my password and it told me that my "password token wasn't recognized" and to enter it manually. I did that, going as far as to cut and paste the token, and it wasn't "recognized" again.
And when I was able to sign in, I couldn't get any new contacts, even though I knew they were presently signed in.

  • Cisco ASA 5505 - Can't Login from Public & Local IP Anymore!

    Hello,
We've a Cisco ASA 5505 connected directly to Verizon FiOS Circuit (ONT) box using Ethernet cable. As per the existing documention that I have, the previous configured this as a dedicated router to establish a seperate VPN connection our software provider. They assigned both Public Static and Local Static IP address. When I try to ping the public IP address, it says request time out; so the public IP address is no longer working.
When I ping the local IP address of 192.168.100.11, it responds. The SolarWind tool also shows Always UP signal. How can I login into this router either from remotely or locally to check the configuration, backup and do the fimrware upgrade?
I also tried to connect my laptop directly to the ASA 5505 router LAN port. After 3 minutes, I'm able to connect to Internet without any issues. However I don't know the IP address to use to login.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
UPDATE: I'm able to find the way! I need to use https to login! I'm able to download ASDM tool and login! Thanks to these resources:

    http://cyruslab.wordpress.com/2010/09/09/how-to-download-asdm-from-asa5505-and-install-it/

    Hi Srinath,
If that ASA5505 has factory-default configuration on it , then it probably has 192.168.1.1 ip address on the LAN side and has got dhcp server turned on to provide you ip address dynamically the moment you hook up a machine to it directly or through a switch.
    If you've access to ASDM.
You can go the Configuration Tab>>Device Management>>Device Access and turn on the SSH & Telnet from the LAN interface because by default only HTTPS/ASDM is enabled on LAN interface.
You will still need to generate crypto keys and create a username in order to get ssh working
For this you can click at the TOP at TOOLS>> Command Line Interface.
And in the box below type this
crypto key generate rsa modulus 1024
    add a username
    username <> password <> priv 15
and enable aaa authentication for ssh like this
    aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL
Let me know if this helps.

  • Can I transfer songs from my admin account to a new user account?

I want to start using a user account as my main account instead of the admin account. I bought a bunch of songs from iTunes and downloaded them to my admin account.
Can I transfer these songs from my admin account to a new user account and then de-authorized the songs on my admin account?
    Thanks,
    Mark

If you don't change your iTMS account, you don't have to de-authorize.
Your computer is already authorized to play the songs.
This article tells you more about (de)authorization.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can not login the WebCenter Discussions Admin console

    Hi
I have installed the oracle web center 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.3 patch and have the weblgic admin/wls_services server running successfully. after create two new users in the embed weblogic i can login the webcenter discussion. The two test users can post a announcement but have no right to create a new forum and post new thread. So i want to login the ADMIN console by host:port/owc_discussions/admin but denied, including the weblogic default admin user(weblogic/weblogic1). in the webcenter administation guide, it says:
"By default, Oracle WebCenter Discussions is configured to use the embedded LDAP identity store: all users in the embedded LDAP store can log on to the discussions server, and all users in the Administrators group have administrative privileges on Oracle WebCenter Discussions." in 12.2.2 Discussions Server - Security Considerations
also tried to change the configuration file for Jive(jive_startup.xml), setting the setup element to false which mentioned in another threads in this forum and still not work.
Currently all i want to do is login the discussion as admin and create a forum, say 'Generic' and register the connection in Jdevoper and create a custom app for posting new thread.
    Hope someone can help.

  • Can't log on to my admin account.

    Hey there!
I just got the MacBook Pro retina. I was setting it up and connected it to my iCloud account and all is going well. I decided to start using a new email address, so I switched to the new email on my iCloud account. Then I log out and when I try to sign back into my admin account, I can't, because no matter what password I try it doesn't seem to be the right password. The password for the admin account is the same for the iCloud account, so this is weird since I had literally just updated my email and password for the iCloud account.
So I'm just wondering what went wrong here?
I tried both old and new passwords, I tried resetting the iCloud password a couple of times and nothing. Even tried resetting the old e-mail which was registered before and that's now unavailable/locked out.
I'm guessing this has something to do with the iCloud mess, like my computer is now somehow just connected to that but there's no way for me to get to the old password or whatever it is that I need to get into my admin account.
What are my options here? Restarting the thing? All help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't run programs from non-admin account

I'm new to the Mac and rusty with -- but not new to -- UNIX. I'm working with an iMac running OS X 10.2. I have installed several programs in a non-admin account (called "boys"), but they will not run from that account. The "get info" screen tells me that the "boys" account is the owner of the program. Read/write permission is enabled. When I try to run the programs, I get this error message: "The operation could not be completed because you do not have enough access privileges." I have installed the same programs in an admin account, and the programs run just fine from that account. I'd like to get this working so that the boys in the "boys" account can actually use the system. I have "inherited" this system from prior users. Programs that were on the system when I got my hands on it do run -- for the most part -- from "boys."

Thanks for the reply, Ken. My various unsuccessful attempts to solve this problem led me to create a folder named "Programs." (I know, my PC roots are showing.) I did this for two reasons: 1) I hoped that this would give me more control over what was happening; and 2) I wanted to give the children with whom I am working an easy way to find the programs that I want them to use. When I use < cd /users/boys > and then do an ls- l, I see the Programs folder. An ls -l on that folder shows all the program I have loaded and indicates that the "x" permission is applied to owner, group and others. Moreover, I assumed (incorrectly, perhaps) that installing the programs using the "boys" non-admin account would make them the "owner" of the programs and that "x" permission would follow. Well, ls -l indicates that they are the owners and that they do have execute permission. I can only guess that the prior users of this system -- and nobody in this organization seems to know where they are -- did something that requires more than Advil to overcome.

  • Can't login to Messaging Server Admin Console

I've just installed DS5.2 and MSG5.2 on a 480R. After starting all the appropriate servers I am able to use the Admin Consoles on the 480R for both DS and MSG.
But if I try to login to the MSG server's admin console remotely from my Win XP laptop I get an error "Cannot logon because of an incorrect user id, incorrect password or directory problem. I'm using the same settings (ports, user id cn=Directory Manager, password) as i did on the 480R. I even tried Sun ONE 5.2 admin console as well as the older Netscape 4.5 console. I don't have a problem when logging into the DS5.2 admin server via the console on my WinXP laptop.
    Any ideas ?

Never mind. I hope the problem.
The admin server was configured to only allow connections to it from the local machine. I added my laptop's IP to the allowed hosts and everything's working just fine now.
    Thanks anyways.

  • Use local admin account to reset local users password?

Everytime I logout or shut down my mac book pro running 10.7.4 I cannot login because the login "shakes" when I put in my password.  The local account, userX, is also a mobile account on my home Lion Server network.  Even why I try to go through the process of resetting my password using my appleid, the new password doesn't allow userX to logon to the machine, let alone the home network.
    Thoughts?

did you see the link? Pertinent info therefrom:
    OS X Lion
From the Apple menu choose System Preferences....
From the View menu choose Users & Groups.
Click the lock and authenticate as an administrator account.
    Click Login Options....
Click the "Edit..." or "Join..." button at the bottom right.
Click the "Open Directory Utility..." button.
Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.
Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.
Choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu.
Enter the root password you wish to use in both the Password and Verify fields, then click OK.
