Can't login to mac - keyboard issue?

Hi
I'm hoping someone can help me with this...I can't get an appointment at an apple store until a week away.
When I go to login into my MacBook I start typing my password DVD the keyboard seems to start entering letters of its own. Plus when I am able to type my password in and press enter the computer won't recognise it (capslock is off). It also makes a continuous beeping/drumming noise when I go to switch it on. I have no idea where to start with this...could it be a keyboard issue? Or a virus? Also I have FileVault enabled as well.
Would appreciate any advice!
Thank you

This is probably a hardware problem.  Clattering noises are usually either a bad CD or DVD or a bad optical drive, or possibly a disk drive or fan hardware problem, or some other hardware confusion.
Something other than the usual startup chime can indicate the hardware tests have found an error.
Make sure you have no CD or DVD inserted into the drive.
Remove all external devices — USB hubs, storage, keyboards, or otherwise — and test again.
Can you boot the MacBook using the recovery partition or boot into safe mode?
I'd also try an external keyboard, if you have one available.
I'd normally suggest using target disk mode as a way to try and get a current backup of your disk data, but AFAIK your particular MacBook model lacks both FireWire and Thunderbolt ports, which means that's not (again, AFAIK) an available option here.

  • Icloud: can't login, serious server side issues

    I'm having serious issues whith iCloud, can't sign in. I have two appleID's: 1 @mac.com and 1 @me.com (although the account name on appleid.apple.com is withouth the email-suffix "@me.com")
    I would like to login in on iCloud.com with my @me.com AppleID and on iTunes with @mac.com. Off course merging the two AppleID's would be better.
    Issue:
    Can't login on mac os x 10.7.3 (Safari icloud.com, system preferences) with neither AppleID's
    Safari icloud.com: Connection error, icloud error while connecting to server
    Sys prefs: you can't login this moment
    Depending where I login, It works with @me.com or without the mail-suffix
    Can login on iphone/ipad/ appleid.apple.com
    Tried:
    - little snitch not present
    - deleted ~/Library/AppSupport/iCloud/Accounts
    - emptying Safari cache
    - resetting passwords on appleid.apple.com
    Other observation:
    - could login with safari on other account (guest), no longer possible
    - after deleting account on iphone, recreating account logged in with me.com appleID, login works but shows @mac.com account name
    - on iOS password from mac.com appleID works with me.com
    - can login on appleid.apple.com with both appleid's (with correct passwords)
    - me.com accountname is NOT in the form of an email addres, when trying to change accountname in a me.com address, this gets refused

    Just upgraded to 10.7.4.
    Solved some issues.
    I can login via System Preferences and with iTunes with two different accoutns. Although. I have to use the password of the @mac.com AppleID to login with the @me.com AppleID (wiht mail-suffix). Like on my iPhone before.
    If I login on the Apple support site I have to use the @me.com (without the mail-suffix) and the correct password.
    Understand who can.
    Left to check: Fotostream, but first I have some real work to do. Thorough troubleshooting next week.
    I'm no programmer but I've administered servers (solaris, mac, win) for 8 years in a multi-tier environment and I'm rolling out an identity mgt system in a 40k employee organisation at the moment.

  • Can't login to Mac Pro after every restart

    Hi all,
    For 5 days I've not been able to log into my computer at work after its been restarted/gone to sleep. The IT guys have had to do all kinds of stuff to get it working again. And every time we think it's fixed, I've come in the next morning and have the same problem, can't login.
    I've eliminated that its my login details as I was able to login on another machine just fine. And others can't login  to my computer, so it's obviously an issue with my machine/OS.
    Does anyone have any ideas of why this would keep happening? It's as if something keeps resetting after each restart that then won't allow anyone else to login. This is all I can think of, but honestly have no idea. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated as its really frustrating and putting me very behind on my work. Thank you!
    Btw, it's a Mac Pro duel quad core, 16GB ram, OS 10.6.7 I believe.
    Also, the admin and root can login, just not any other accounts. So the computer can be accessed, but not thru my or any other accounts on the network.

    Hey there.
    Well, I figured out what is causing my problem. It's Mobile accounts. I started fresh with a new install and a standard Active Directory account (not Mobile). I authenticated 20+ times. Rebooted at least 10 times. Everything worked great. Then I decided to create the Mobile account. That's when everything broke again. My Active Directory account was getting locked after one accurate attempt to authenticate. When IT unlocked it I could go one step further but then would lock me out the next time I tried to authenticate. I've replicated this twice.
    So for me, it's clearly a Mobile account problem. Which is bad because half of the Macs under my care are notebooks.
    Please let me know what you find out on your end.
    Thanks,
    Adam

  • Can't login to Mac OS X server website after password reset

    Hi,
    I set up Mac OS X server for our small company and tried resetting the password of my network account that is managed via profile manager.
    So, under Accounts->User->MYUSERNAME->reset Password, I typed in a new one and hit ok.
    Now I can't login to the server website anymore (for editing our wiki or using profile manager etc.), neither with the new one nor with the old one.
    I already tried different passwords (resetting it again and again), I looked at the password directive, I checked my user name, tried to login from different computers and tried logging in with another account (which worked quite fine, so it's just my account). Finally I searched the internet for a solution for quite some time but didn't find anything similar.
    It would be great, if somebody could offer some advice.
    Best regards.
    Lasse

    Solved it by deleting the user and creating a new one with the same userID.
    Maybe it occured because I marked the "user has to change password after first login" box when resetting the password but didn't yet allow him to do so in the webpages menu?!?

  • Can't login to Mac App store on mac mini. Is it because my ethernet port is fried?

    Hi
    like many others, I am unable to log in to the mac app store on my mac mini.  I get the error message saying "An unknown error has occured". I believe the ethernet port is damaged after an electrical storm, but I can still get online wirelessly.  I've read on these forums that the app store verifys the account using the ethernet port.  Can anybody confirm if this is the case, is there a workaround that anyone knows of?
    I can log into the App store on my laptop fine, just not the mac mini.
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

    This is happening on 2 of my machines.  One is OSX Lion, the other OSX Mountain Lion.  My personal rig works just fine - all on the same network, all with the same basic configuration.  All can log in and out of iTunes, but the two servers can't login via Appstore. My rig and one of the servers even use the same Ethernet driver, so it's not that.
    I would seriously doubt your Ethernet card would be working at all if it was indeed damaged by the lightning.  The transducers are relatively sensitive, and it would either fry or not.  You won't get "intermittent" operation as you have described.  Here is a list of all the things I've tried (based on a number of forum suggestions), none of which has worked:
    1) Sign out of itunes, sign back in, try to sign in to AppStore.
    2) Re-enter information in  your account info and save it again (knew that wasn't it but tried anyway).
    3) Ran AppStore as root.
    4) Using EFIStudio, I got the hex string ID of my ethernet card and specifically reference "device-properties" in the boot.plist.  Others  have said this works, so you might give it a try -
    http://legacy.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=169&t=28477
    5) Deleted all other ethernet devices to avoid "confusion" of the return.
    6) Verified I can get HTTPS returned from NAT device.
    7) Used Wireshark to get a packet capture of it working on mine and not working on the other.  On the one that doesn't work, all I get is a couple of SYNs to the appstore and then nothing.  It was along these lines that I was hoping the "device-properties" would work.
    I just thought of something though.  If I don't see that ACK at all, it might be sending the packets somewhere else.  hmmm.  I'm going to hard-code in all HTTPS to be routed to that box and try it just for S&G.
    Good luck!

  • Can't login to Mac OS X Server (10.3.x)

    We have a server that will not display the login screen. It loads all of the services (and they are working) ie: AFP, FTP and WWW but we can't login it never displays the screen. We have tried to repair perm. and checked the drive. We tried to re-install the OS from disk and it wants to reformat the HD. We also have a Macintosh OS X Server 10.4 that we tried to load and it wants to reformat the HD before install also. We have started to copy the files off of the server and are planning on formatting the HD and loading 10.4 Server from disk. Any suggestions as to what may have caused the problem would be appreciated. We don't need this problem again.

    Solved it by deleting the user and creating a new one with the same userID.
    Maybe it occured because I marked the "user has to change password after first login" box when resetting the password but didn't yet allow him to do so in the webpages menu?!?

  • [Solved] Can't login with current keyboard layout and `@` in password

    Hi, I'm a new arch user. I followed archwiki to install Enlightenment17. All went fine but I have a problem to login since during setup I inserted '@' in root/regular user passwords. During setup I selected the Italian layout and all seems ok, except grafical login through entrance (from aur, but I tested also kdm, with same results): password not recognized. Before asking, is not a CAPS/NUMLOCK issue since the password works using it in console login. I discovered that I can type '@' with the following combination: SHIFT+2; in an italian keybord this should print a double quote (") but in entrance (and kdm) it correponds to '@'. After login this way, the keyboard works normally (for instance using 'su'). So the problem is limited to graphical login (entrance and kdm) during which a different keyboard layout is used.
    Did I miss some config file?
    For the sake of clarity:
    1) /etc/locale.gen has "it_IT.UTF-8 UTF-8" uncommented
    2) /etc/locale.conf contains "LANG=it_IT.UTF-8"
    3) /etc/vconsole.conf contains "KEYMAP=it"
    4)
    $ locale
    LANG=it_IT.UTF-8
    LC_CTYPE="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_NUMERIC="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_TIME="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_COLLATE="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_MONETARY="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_MESSAGES="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_PAPER="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_NAME="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_ADDRESS="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_TELEPHONE="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_MEASUREMENT="it_IT.UTF-8"
    LC_IDENTIFICATION="it_IT.UTF-8"

    cfr wrote:Have you tried specifying a variant?
    I exclude a variant problem considering that in any other condition the keyboard layout is right. The system is configured for an it KEYMAP but it is obvious that in entrance/kdm is used an 'us' map. Is this hardcoded somewhere? I also tryed to comment out any entry in /etc/locale.gen except 'it_IT.UTF-8 UTF-8': still 'us' keymap in graphical login screen.
    Probably a kind user with a non-us keyborad layout could create a dummy user with password containing '@' or '#' or any other special symbol to verify that this condition is reproducible, a first step for a bug report.

  • Can't login to Mac X server after an unexpected CPU reboot

    I'm using Mac X server 10.4.10.
    Here is an interesting situation....after an unexpected system reboot, I was not able to login. This happened 2 twice. The first time, I was able to boot from another drive which was a clone of the drive with the difficulty, I went in to the passwd file located on the drive with the difficulty and enabled the root user, and after doing a startup on the drive with the difficulty, I was able to use the root ID to login. After doing so, I was able to reset the passwords normally used, and they worked going forward.
    Some time later, the unexpected reboot occured again. I tried the above method to regain acess and it did not work. So now, I'm wondering what is part of a normal shut down process that is needed to be in place in order for the next login to work.
    I ran all the built in disk maint routines but that did not help. I can boot from another drive and have full access to the data, I can also do a restore and over write the OS info with a baseline functional install, but I am wondering if there is another short cut way of resolving this. I'm thinking that there is an encrpyted file that gets out of sync if a proper shut down is not done resulting in an normal login process from happening. I'm not using keychains and do not have any speacial features enabled as well as just running bare bone defualt configs.
    This is not the ned of the world...I can redue the install pretty easy and still have access to the data...just wondering if anyone has a short cut process to fix this.

    "I would try booting from the cd and resetting the password of a local acount. This will at least allow you to log in. You might want to look into why the server is rebooting though as that seems to be the real problem. "
    booting from the install cd...easy......resetting local account...interesting ....how would that be done?

  • Can't login with Wireless Keyboard

    Hello,
    My daughter's iMac wont accept input from her wireless keyboard: we're stuck trying to login. She has set up the login screen when it boots - to keep her sister out . It does recognise her wireless mouse which will move the pointer around the screen.
    The keyboard has fresh batteries, and when switched on will show the green LED that then flashes. I've tired all the combinations of stopping and starting the iMac/keyboard to give it a chance to rediscover the keyboard (following the Apple note on getting you wireless keyboard discovered). I've taken the keyboard downstairs where it was recognised by my MacBook in the bluetooth devices screen - but I didn't go as far as associating it.
    I've updated the iMac to the lastest OS with the latest family pack OS X (about 3-4 months ago), and kept it up to date with patches from the software update... option.
    I don't have a USB keyboard, and can't get past the login screen without the keyboard working to configure anything.
    Any ideas please.
    thanks.

    Try unplugging everything from the USB ports (especially if you have a hub) and then restart. This normally sorts out my Bluetooth connection problems (in fact it's just sorted out my completely unrelated problem which I'm about to reply to my own post about!). However, when I get Bluetooth problems I tend to lose contact completely i.e. mouse won't work either and you don't seem to have that problem. It could be at the end of the day you may have to get a USB keyboard so that you can get to log in and delve deeper to get to the route of this one. They're pretty cheap if you can't borrow one. I always keep one spare for moments like this.

  • Can't login to Mac

    The Apple Mac computer is setup with rEFIt and boots into Windows XP.
    I would like to boot into the Mac, however the username and password don't work.
    I have tried rebooting and pressing Ctrl+S, but the command line interface didn't open?

    Any help apart from a full installation.
    I don't know if I can access the retail DVD.

    It's cmd-S to boot into single-user mode, not ctrl-S. You might also try cmd-R to boot into recovery mode and reset your password from the Utilities/Terminal menu. (Type "resetpassword" at the prompt.)

    Hi Fabian,
    Apologies that it is taking some time, please try the following steps & see if it helps :
    1) Restart your machine.
    2) Open Activity monitor and Force quit Adobe CEF Helper, Creative cloud, Adobe IPC Broker & Crash Deamon if available.
    3) Try to open, if doesn't work then go to Applications>> Adobe Creative cloud>> Right click>> Get Info>> Click on the Add sign>> Select the user you are logged in>> Give Read and write access.
    4) If that doesn't work then enable the root user and launch to update there, check this link on how to enable/sign in to root user: Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
    Please let us know if that helps.
