Can't login to server as administrator

Hello,
after e restart from a 10.6.7-Server (XServe) it is impossible to login through screen sharing nor ssh as administrator.
As Server Admin and Workgroup-Manager shows me it seems to work properly.
In the moment it is impossible to put a keyboard to it, any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Hello Craig,
I think not… I gave permissions for all services to all users and groups just now, any results.
I can't login with root, nor with ladmin.
I was at the server directly today, started up with a screen and a keyboard, any possibility.
An older System started without problem, from an externel HD no problem, from System DVD no problem.
Single user mode worked (but I can't do too much in it).
Safe boot didn't work, there was a kernel panic!
Because all the other systems worked, I think there is a software failure. I really would like to find the error and not to re-initialize the server - there was too much work in it!
Thanks for further help.

  • Icloud: can't login, serious server side issues

I'm having serious issues whith iCloud, can't sign in. I have two appleID's: 1 @mac.com and 1 @me.com (although the account name on appleid.apple.com is withouth the email-suffix "@me.com")
I would like to login in on iCloud.com with my @me.com AppleID and on iTunes with @mac.com. Off course merging the two AppleID's would be better.
    Issue:
Can't login on mac os x 10.7.3 (Safari icloud.com, system preferences) with neither AppleID's
Safari icloud.com: Connection error, icloud error while connecting to server
Sys prefs: you can't login this moment
Depending where I login, It works with @me.com or without the mail-suffix
    Can login on iphone/ipad/ appleid.apple.com
    Tried:
    - little snitch not present
    - deleted ~/Library/AppSupport/iCloud/Accounts
    - emptying Safari cache
    - resetting passwords on appleid.apple.com
    Other observation:
    - could login with safari on other account (guest), no longer possible
    - after deleting account on iphone, recreating account logged in with me.com appleID, login works but shows @mac.com account name
    - on iOS password from mac.com appleID works with me.com
    - can login on appleid.apple.com with both appleid's (with correct passwords)
    - me.com accountname is NOT in the form of an email addres, when trying to change accountname in a me.com address, this gets refused

    Just upgraded to 10.7.4.
    Solved some issues.
I can login via System Preferences and with iTunes with two different accoutns. Although. I have to use the password of the @mac.com AppleID to login with the @me.com AppleID (wiht mail-suffix). Like on my iPhone before.
If I login on the Apple support site I have to use the @me.com (without the mail-suffix) and the correct password.
    Understand who can.
Left to check: Fotostream, but first I have some real work to do. Thorough troubleshooting next week.
I'm no programmer but I've administered servers (solaris, mac, win) for 8 years in a multi-tier environment and I'm rolling out an identity mgt system in a 40k employee organisation at the moment.

  • Can't login to server, from Server.app

I have a very odd problem. After an clean install of Lion Server 10.7.2 i can't access my server from server.app or Server admin?
I have tryied this solution but no luck http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3960?locale=en_US
    The servermgrd IS loaded?
    Anybody theres have a clue??

As root go to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons and edit com.apple.servermgrd.plist and change the "Disabled" boolean to "<true/>".  Then say:
    launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.servermgrd.plist
For some reason that I have not discovered yet the system keeps changing the bool back to "false" on occasion.

  • Can't login to server while trying to add a new member to group.

While trying to login to add another user to the enterprise group, "unexpected error" comes up hence can't login to create a new user, although sending the new user an invitation.
Can someone please solve this asap?

I figured it out. For any of you having problems with the new Sync (there are lots of posts out there from unhappy people) I have the fix.
If you revert back to FF 28 everything works great. FF staff will tell you about the gloom and doom of using older versions. They don't seem too concerned that those of us who have relied on Sync for years and probably only use FF because of Sync are unhappy with the new less secure version and in my case can't even register a new account.
I think you can get away with going up to higher versions and maintaining the old Sync. If anyone knows what the highest working version is please post it. I will probably upgrade one version at a time to see where it stops working and will post here.

  • Can't login to Server app after hardware and hostname change

I used Carbon Copy Cloner to completely clone a Mac mini Server onto another Mac mini Server. (The idea being that I can install and configure additional software just once and then easily set up identical servers by copying all hard drive contents.) This seemed to work great – the second Mac mini runs fine, including logins, networking etc.
To avoid conflicts between the two servers, I changed the computer name in System Preferences/Sharing and ran:
    sudo scutil --set HostName someothername
    sudo changeip oldip newip
The problem is that the Server app won't let me log in on the second Mac mini. It lists "This Mac" in the "Choose a Mac" dialog, but when I enter the correct username and password, login is refused (the login dialog is "shaken"). But the same login works for the operating system and SSH, and the account was definitely "allowed to administer this server". On the original Mac mini I cloned from, I can login with this account just fine.
I even added the user account to the "Open Directory Administrators" group using ldapmodify on the command line, but that didn't help.
Is it possible that there's something in the user directory that's bound to the hardware (maybe the Ethernet MAC address) or the hostname?
Do you have any idea how I could fix this? I'm grateful for any help…

    this hasn't worked for me.
When i follow the additional steps using terminal, the second command brings back the same outcome - 'David is not in the sudoers file. this incident will be reported'.
I've been having trouble with login on for a week but didn't realise this was the problem. I've reset passwords, reinstalled OSX (twice) and now, bizarrely, i can log onto the mac mini as the administrator, but once logged in, the 'administrator' password doesnt work for anything. I can run Software Update because it comes up with a message:
"Software Update wants to make changes. Type an administrator name and password to allow this".
I then put in my password but it shakes and tells me its wrong.
Can anyone advise any other solution? I'm kind of stuck - because the system doesn't recognise my admin password for updates, i cant update anything. And also because my itunes library was set up by a newwer version (I reinstalled OSX believing it would fix it reverting it back to a previous version) i can't listen to any music.

  • Can't login to server after upgrading to 2012 R2 from 2008 R2.

I upgraded my Server 2008 R2 server to Server 2012 R2 standard.  I am at the login screen.  I press control + alt + del and select the Administrator account (as usual).  I enter my password and press enter.  The screen turn black
and flickers, and then returns to the control + alt +delete screen.  No matter how many times I attempt to login, it doesn't work.  If I reboot the server, it rolls back to 2008 R2.
What can I do to get past this issue?

    Hi Smidley,
In addition, I also recommend you can follow this article to perform the upgrade and feedback.
Note: you need to evaluate if software installed on your Windows Server 2008 R2 is compatible and supported on Windows Server 2012/2012R2. When you find any incompaticle software you need to upgrade or uninstall.
Windows Server 2008R2 in-place upgrade to Windows Server 2012/2012R2

  • Can't login to Server.app after 10.7.3

I installed the 10.7.3 Server Combo update today, and now when I try to use Server.app to administer my server, it just shakes to tell me they are invalid (even though I'm logged in to the server with that username/password). Anyone else run into something like this?

  • Can't login to Server management app

I installed Lion server this evening and I was able to access the Server management app. However just recently I'm no longer able to connect. Even the dashboard server widget doesn't display any info and just says "network error". The only thing I can think of that might have caused it was running the disk utility and verifying/repairing permissions. Is there any way that I can regain access to the Server management settings? Thanks.

Just confirmed that nothing is listening on port 311 which Apple document (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1629) as
    311
    TCP
Server Admin, Workgroup Manager, Server Monitor, Xsan Admin
    asip-webadmin
    Remote server administration
Trying to figure out why nothing is listening on that port, but does anyone else have any ideas?  On my "test" server, there is a listener on the port (I can telnet to the port and get connected).

  • Can't login to Server App

I was working on my Mac Mini Server when it suddenly crashed and I was forced to press the power button to shut down. When I restarted my Mac Mini Server it started beeping so I powered off again.
Then I powered on my Mac Mini Server and it worked fine. However when I tried to open the Server App and tried to login it was not accepting my login details even if they were correct. Each time I tried the Server window just shakes.
Can somebody please help me in resolving this issue.

  • Can't login to Server Preferences

Have 10.6.1 Server running as a Open Directory Master. I cannot log in to Server Preferences using either my admin or directory administrator account. I get the message "Unable to authenticate to the Open Directory Master" - "This computer record credentials could not be retrieved from the System keychain."
LDAP/Password server/Kerberos are all listed as running in Server Admin (which is working fine). I also use Open Directory for Kerio Mail Server, and that's working fine.
changeip -checkhostname comes back fine. While I don't have a major need to use Server Preferences, I'm worried that being unable to log in signals a larger problem with Kerberos that I'd like to nip in the bud.

I had a similar problem and was able to fix it. Here was my situation:
I had a ldap master (host foo1) and a ldap slave (host foo2). The slave's server preferences stopped working after it became a slave. I would get the same errors as you did when trying to open server preferences. I did some searches and stumbled across this site: http://www.macgasm.net/2009/11/04/mac-os-x-10-6-1-server-server-preferences-brok e-and-how-to-fix-it/
This only kind of applies to the issue at hand but I was able to take this info and apply it to my problem.
    Here is what I did:
I discovered I was missing the password item called com.apple.opendirectory on foo2 (located in the system keychain)
I logged into foo1 and examined the com.apple.opendirectory password item on foo1. I copied all of the info (exported to text) --- including the password. I then logged into foo2 and created a new password item in the system keychain. Making sure to include all of the info from the previous export. The only difference is that I changed the hostname. I then made sure that access control was set to allow all applications.. (this is very important). Server preferences then worked.
An example of what I exported and what I re-created:
    name: com.apple.opendirectory
    Kind: application password
    Account: foo1.yourdomain.com$
    Where: Com.apple.opendirectory
    Password: some_password
On foo2 I created this password key:
    name: com.apple.opendirectory
    Kind: application password
    Account: foo2.yourdomain.com$
    Where: Com.apple.opendirectory
    Password: some_password
Notice the host change. This key must be in the system keychain and allow access to all.
    Good luck.

  • Can't login to server application

I have not been using my server functionality much since I got my Mac mini server for my home network, so it has been awhile since I tried to access the server functionality. I can signon locally to my mini with an account with local admin privilege. When I try to startup the server application, I select my mini, and then I try to enter the same username and password to access the server, but those credentials fail to allow access.
I need a way back in. I really do not have any server functions configured, so I can nuke the configuration, but somehow I need to know how to establish a configuration at the expense of the current inaccessible configuration.

  • Can't login SQL Server 2008 R2 Express management studio

Hi i recently installed SQL Server 2008 R2 management studio. When I try to login i select 'Database engine' as the server type, I'm not sure what server name I'm
supposed to be using but I tried .\SQLEXPRESS and authentication is 'SQL server Authentication'. But as for login and password I don't have one. During the installation I was not prompted to provide a login/password. As with the 2005 server installation I
could by selecting 'mixed'. So how do i login for the first time on SQL server 2008 if i dont know/have my login/password?

  • Can't login to admin server

Hello, I have a problem which is driving me crazy.
I simply can not login to the admin server.
I'm connecting to the flash admin-frontend which is hosted on the same server which the FMS is running on. The FMS version is 3.0.1 and it's running on RHEL5.
I've set the user and password in conf/fms.ini. I have checked that I have permission to connect in conf/Users.xml. Everything seems like it should work, but it just won't let me in and when looking in the logs (logs/admin.00.log) I just get a lot of lines saying "Failed login attempt from..."
Apart from this the server works. We are still using it for streaming and we have been able to login to the admin interface before, but it was a long time ago and now it just won't work anymore.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the reply.
The admin log just contains a lot lines like these:
    2011-04-01 14:57:31 22552 (w)2671165 Failed login attempt from 130.239.57.123 at Fri 01 Apr 2011 02:57:31 PM CEST. -

And here's the Users.xml, I'm actually not sure why there's a password in here as well, or how it is updated (since it's encrypted).
