Can't make an incremental backup in PSE 10 Organizer

I don't understand why I can't make an incremental backup in PSE 10 Organizer. I made my first full backup to my external drive a week ago. Today I tried to make an incremental backup. After selecting Incremental Backup from the file menu, a new screen appears asking for the Backup Path, and so I entered (by selecting) the full path name on my external drive where I made my original backup. But, next, it wants to know the name of the "Previous Backup file." I have absolutely no idea what the program wants at this point. What particular file does it want me to enter as the "previous backup file"?? There are hundreds of files in my backup directory. The backup directly does have a file called "Backup.tly" which I entered, hoping that this is the file it wants, but then I get this error message: "I:\Pictures\Adobe\Backup.tly does not contain a backup set for the current catalog. Please locate the last backup you made for this catalog." What am I missing here?
Many thanks for your help,
Jeff

Hi Jeff
Once you have a full back up you can make incremental back ups but you need to follow a set routine. It’s not very intuitive.
Start by creating a new folder or label a new CD/DVD Disk - it’s best to use dates e.g. “PSE10 incr backup 2012-0104”
Press Ctrl+B and check Incremental, then click Next
Highlight your drive containing the last backup and click the bottom Browse button (previous back up file) then navigate to the TLY file and click open.
Click the Browse button above and navigate to your new folder “PSE10 incr backup 2012-0104”
Click Done.
If your full backup originally contained 500 images, the incremental backup will only contain changes since the last backup e.g. files B000501.jpg, B000502.jpg etc
If you ever have to do a complete restore you start with the TLY file from the latest incremental backup. The program automatically recognizes the number of incremental steps and you will be prompted to insert a disc or navigate to the appropriate drive.
Incremental backup’s are obviously much quicker to write to disk but I recommend that you periodically perform another full backup and delete any earlier backups.

    Hello David,
I would suggest to use the Adobe Media Downloader to download your images
Click here to archive your Photoshop.com library so you do not lose any files.
You will be asked to download an Adobe Air application called Media Downloader.
Then you can use your Dvd buring software to make a back up of your images
    Thanks

  • Can I use an incremental backup disk for a restore function?

I have loaded PSE7 on my new PC. I have a full backup set and also an incremental set created after the full backup. After doing a File/Restore with the full backup set, can I use the incremental set to add the remaining picutures or do I need to do a new full backup first and only use it? If I can use the incremental set, are the steps to load it the same as for the full backup?

I have given up incremental backups because they don't save any time. I have found that the messages in the restore process are misleading. I don't know for sure why, but to restore, I got the best results by restoring the last incremental backup first, then the older ones and the original. If your incremental backups are correct, each in a separate folder or disk, you have a full version of your catalog at the time of backup stored within the folder or disk. I suppose this is to start with the latest catalog version and completing the process by comparing with previous versions, which ensures not adding deleted items.
I'd be interested to get other views on that matter !

  • HT1766 How can I make a NEW backup WITHOUT getting prompted for a (forgotten) password?

    Hello! 1st post here,
How can I backup iPhone A to iTunes and then restore into iPhone B without getting prompted for a backup password that I do no know or remember ever setting?
To clarify, I am not trying to read an encrypted backup. I would like to make a NEW backup but I do not want it to be encrypted as I do not know nor remember how a password was set in the 1st place. If I unclick the encryption checkbox, I am prompted to enter the password. Defeats the purpose of clicking on the box, no?
    Thanks,

Have you tried deleting the encrypted back up?

  • How can i make my iphone backup run on the "D" drive instead of "C" drive ??

hi there, can someone tell me how to run the iphone backup on the "D" drive instead of the "C" drive??

The following quotation is from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946
I don't know enough about Windows to know if/how you can change where all or part of a \Users\(username)\ directory is located but you may be able to find it on the Microsoft Community: http://answers.microsoft.com
Where are iTunes backups stored on your computer
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on your computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press Return.

  • How can I make handwriting look heavier in PSE 11?

I have a small handwritten note that I've scanned. When I enlarged it to the size I want to print, the handwriting strokes looked too thin to suit me. How can I make the strokes look thicker? (I'm trying to change the appearance from ball point pen to fine-tip felt marker.) Is there a way to do it easily by selecting the handwriting itself and somehow changing it all at once, or will I have to draw or paint over the strokes? I'm a newbie, so detailed instructions would be most appreciated.
    Thanks very much!

I performaned a backup on 12/6/2013,  The backup folder name is "13-1206 PE 11 Backup".  It is located on an external 1TB drive.
Today I added a number of files to the catalog.  Now I am trying to do an incremental backup.
My 1st step is to ogen the organizer and choose  File > Backup
2nd is to select Continue to not search for disconnected files,  (these have been deleted)
3rd is to chose incremental and click [NEXT],  the calculating total media window runs
4th In the Destination settings Window I enter 13-1206 PE in the Name box  (this is the character limit)
    5th In the Backup Path I browse to G:\13-1206 PE 11 Backup\
6th in Previous Bachup file box I browse to G:\13-1206 PE 11 Backup and open Backup.tly
I get a message that says "You may not specify the location of the previous backup as the new backup location

  • HT4889 Can I make a bootable backup of my machine and OS on a Firewire drive?  If so, how?  Thanks.

I waqnt to make abootable backup of My OS Lion and internal hard drive on an external FW800 hard drive, I can use it if the Mac crashes, so I can re-install the OS and all my software on the Mac.
    Is this possible?
Also, I used time machine on an external drive from my old MBP 10.5.8 to move all my stuff to my new iMac 10.7 when I started it.  Sincee then I've installed 5 more programs on my MBP.  They are in the applications folder.amd are backed up in the MBP's latest time machine backup.
How can I get these 5 programs into my iMac?
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks.

    Thanks everybody.
How do I start a new question on here as it's very helpful.
I need to get an external drive for the iMac (we've got lots of USB 2 drives from over the years, and two 1TB mini drives for backing up via the MBP when we're filming abroad).
    2 options:
    1)  Buy a Lacie eSata thunderbolt hub.  2 x eSata inputs and 2 thunderbolt outs for daisy chaining and second screen.  Cost £170.
Then buy (2 x) Verbatim 2 TB eSata drives which also have USB2 outputs so we could use with the MBP and in college.
    2)  Just buy a 4 TB thunderbolt drive.  Lacie (2big) is about £440.  There's a WD a little cheaper but it's apparently a little slower.
The pegasus raid 5 6TB is meant to be the fastest but too pricey for us at the mo.
Any ideas?   (or any idea where I can ask this question?)
I would like to compare the R and W speeds for these vs USB2 and FW800.
Not the theoreticals, I know those.
But when I spoke to Lacie they said:
    USB2 45 MB/s
    FW800 80 MB/s
eSata (via their hub) 115 MB/s
Lacie 2big Thunderbolt 320 MB/s write.  500 MB/s read (and as it will mostly be for getting files into FCP, this is the most important).
so thunderbolt drive would be almost 3x as fast as eSata and eSata would only be 50% faster that FW800
But on the web I saw 2big Lacie at about 200-250 MB/s.
Also, as you can have 2eSata's plugged into the hub and it won't slow it down, I could spread the capture scratch over 2 eSata drives.  Or have raw footage on one, and logged-and-transferred on the other if I'm mixing them.  Or have files on one, and write the render, project, autosave etc to the other.
Any idea which option is best?
What speeds would I get in the real world.
If anyone can help on this too it would be really appreciated.
But thanks to all who helped with the last problem.
    All the best, chaps.

  • How can I make the thumbnail cursor in PSE8 organizer stay at the current position?

Whenever I am browsing through the thumbnail view in PSE8 organizer and I delete, edit, or sometimes when I apply a tag or a filter, the cursor automatically repositions to the first thumbnail in the catalog or the folder after the operation is complete, resulting in me losing my place, having to find it again, etc. -- which is a huge incovenience considering I have over 16,000 images in my catalog. Is there some way to force organizer to keep its place in the catalog?

I believe you're using Display > Folder Location view, in which this behavior is most pronounced.  In Display > Thumbnail View (which sorts photos by date rather than folder), the problem generally doesn't occur.   Folder Location view is the PSE stepchild: slow, buggy, and poorly designed:

  • Robocopy wont reset archive attribute with /M switch..incremental backup to zip folder...partially RESOLVED!!!

    hello, OS server 2012, 2008 r2, w7 ult.
I want to make backup only files which have archive attribute set. /M switch is what I need but robocopy wont reset archive bit from subfolders and only reset bit on files in root of source folder. How to force robocopy to reset archive bit from all copied
    files???
    This is syntax:
    @echo off
    set year=%date:~10,4%
    set month=%date:~4,2%
    set day=%date:~7,2%
    SET Now=%Time: =0%
    SET Hours=%Now:~0,2%
    SET Minutes=%Now:~3,2%
    Robocopy c:\source c:\dest /m /s /r:1 /w:1 /log:"c:\dest\Incremental_%month%-%day%-%year% %hours%h-%minutes%m.log" /NP
    "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a -tzip -mx1 C:\c\Incremental_%month%-%day%-%year%-%hours%h-%minutes%m.zip C:\dest
    echo Y | DEL C:\Temp\*.*
I can use attrib command but I have in working folder 900.000 files so this is not option.
edit....robocopy work as expected in 2012 standard. /M switch reset archive attribute so I can use robocopy for incremental backups.
Script: c:\a is source and c:\b is destination. c:\b\temp is temporary folder from where 7zip package backed up files to archive. After 7zip finish jod script delete all files folders from temp folder. I want to use zip archive because this will be much
easier for file system. With time I will have some zip files instead 10000000 files or folders. Zip files will have in name date and time for easier tracking.
    @echo off
    set year=%date:~10,4%
    set month=%date:~4,2%
    set day=%date:~7,2%
    SET Now=%Time: =0%
    SET Hours=%Now:~0,2%
    SET Minutes=%Now:~3,2%
    Robocopy c:\a c:\b\temp /s /m /r:1 /w:1 /log:"c:\b\temp\Incremental_%month%-%day%-%year% %hours%h-%minutes%m.log" /NP
    "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a -tzip -mx1 C:\b\Incremental_%month%-%day%-%year%-%hours%h-%minutes%m.zip C:\b\Temp
    set folder="C:\b\temp\"
    cd /d %folder%
    for /F "delims=" %%i in ('dir /b') do (rmdir "%%i" /s/q || del "%%i" /s/q)

  • Backup HyperV VMs - incremental backup

    Hello,
We are using Windows Server Backup to backup some HyperV VMs. Can we create an incremental backup schedule for VMs? Every night a full backup is being taken.
DPM is not an option in our environment.
    Best regards
    Kostas
    Kostas Backas-Systemgraph Technologies

    Hi Kostas,
    Sorry for the delay.
After the first full backup is created, you can configure Windows Server Backup to automatically run incremental backups by saving only the data that has changed since the last backup. Even if you choose to always perform full backups, your backup will take
less time than it did in earlier versions of Windows.
For more detailed information, you could refer to the article below:
    Optimizing Backup and Server Performance
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd759145.aspx
If you restore a whole VM, you will have to restore a full backup of it.

I have got a problem with the backup-function. After making a (time-consuming) full back-up, I'd like to make a incremental backup. The first steps are the same. At a certain moment, i get the opportunity to choose the incremental one. Therefore i locate the .tly file. When i want to proceed, PSE11 freezes.
Is this a common problem, and (more interesting) is there a way to solve this?

backup-medium: external drive, connected with e-sata
    OS: Windows 7

Don’t use the same folder, make a new one. Once you have a full back up you can make incremental back ups but you need to follow a set routine. It’s not very intuitive.
Start by creating a new folder or label a new CD/DVD Disk - it’s best to use dates e.g. “PSE11 incr backup 20120610”
Press Ctrl+B and check Incremental, then click Next
Highlight your drive containing the last backup and click the bottom Browse button (previous back up file) then navigate to the TLY file and click open.
Click the Browse button above and navigate to your new folder “PSE11 inc backup 20120610”
