Can't make Table that will accept letters - default entry is numbers

Hey folks, I'm a relative newbie to Numbers and I'm tearing my hair out trying to find answers to a simple question (which isn't helped by Apple's idiotic, IMO, insistence on calling its programs simple words that yield 650 bazillion results in Google...and you then have to sift through about a billion pages of unrelated information).
How in **** do you enter data into a Table that isn't number-based?! I can't find any way to set the cells in 'Sheet 1' to 'text' data entry (as opposed to numbers). When I click over to the Table in question, the only keyboard that pops up contains numbers. (The Help file is useless - it only talks about entering numbers in the Table you've created. I know this is possible b/c somehow I set up another Spreadsheet that would take Text entry in the Table. I can't for the life of me remember how I did it and I can't find a way to simply copy that Spreadsheet, then delete all the info, and re-use it.)
When I enter letters into cells in the spreadsheet itself, they then show up just fine in the Table - but then the next record defaults right back to the numbers-only keyboard. Again, the only mention in Help is how you can enter text in Sheet 1, not in a Table.
AGGGH!

tap the table once to activate it
tap teh grey bar above th column you want to be text only.
Tap the "i" button
tap Format
Tap text
On ocassion I have had to format as number, then back to text to make it "take".
btw, when "googling" for items like Numbers, use "iwork Numbers", or include the word "Apple" in the search. this will usually bring you back far more relevant results.
For duplicating an existing file, go back to the main spreadsheet list, and click the "plus" button while your spreadsheet is directly above it. This will give you the option to make a new spreadsheet from a template (including blank) or duplicate the workbook above. I do beleive this is in the help file.

    How to make table that will include controls such as drop list?
    I need to create table as Property Browser of ActiveX, that include rows with differnt types such as drop list, color, ...

    Hi Nadav,
    I figured out where I missed your point. When you wrote
    table as Property Browser of ActiveX, that include rows with differnt types such as drop list, color, ...
    I was thinking mixed data-types in a [2d] table!
    Looking at the property browser again it looks like no single LV function can do all of that. It can be developed as a pop-up (like the browser is set-up) and then code all of the elegance using an event structure to control the background color of a string indicator while controling the visability of rings that are only made visable when a mouse down is detected. That will get you pretty close.
    So no, my previous response ws not correct for what you are trying to do if you want to duplicate all of the wistles and bells of the property browser pop-up window.
    Please forgive my distraction.

  • Create a Procedure that will accept a variable

    Hi,
    I'm new to pl/sql and I'm trying to create a procedure that will accept a variable. I want to use this sql to create restore points that can store the name of each batch job as it runs.
    The code works fine on it's own, but if I try to create the procedure it asks me for a value for 1, how do I stop it doing that?
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE create_restore_point AS
    DECLARE
    pointno number(5);
    pointname varchar2(128) := upper('&1');
    dbname v$database.name%TYPE;
    scn_time date;
    scn number;
    BEGIN
    SELECT restore_point_seq.nextval into pointno from dual;
    SELECT name into dbname from v$database;
    SELECT sysdate into scn_time from dual;
    SELECT dbms_flashback.get_system_change_number into scn from dual;
    INSERT into restore_point
    values
    (pointno,pointname,dbname,scn_time,scn);
    commit;
    END create_restore_point;
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tom.

    It asks for value of 1 because you have &1 in your code. If you want to pass the value for pointname, then you can change your procedure like below.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE create_restore_point (svar varchar2)AS
    DECLARE
    pointno number(5);
    pointname varchar2(128) := upper(svar);
    dbname v$database.name%TYPE;
    scn_time date;
    scn number;
    BEGIN
    SELECT restore_point_seq.nextval into pointno from dual;
    SELECT name into dbname from v$database;
    SELECT sysdate into scn_time from dual;
    SELECT dbms_flashback.get_system_change_number into scn from dual;
    INSERT into restore_point
    values
    (pointno,pointname,dbname,scn_time,scn);
    commit;
    END create_restore_point;

    How can I burn CDs that will play on my car stereo CD player?

    Make sure the format when you burn your playlist is one your car's CD player will recognize. Typically mp3 songs are readable now but when in doubt, burn an audio cd. Yes, you will get less songs per cd (as compared to mp3 formatted one) but you are guaranteed the cd will work in any place.  Most cars have it written on the radio somewhere what formats it can read for CDs.. Good luck!

    The SQL server process always show RAM is highly used while its a default behaviour of sql server.
    How can I make sure that in RAM our sql server is not facing any mermory crunch issue?
    Thanks
    The best way to make sure you are not facing memory pressure is to use perfmon counters and monitor various memory counters
    For SQL Server 2005 - 2008 r2 use below counters
    SQLServer:Buffer Manager--Buffer Cache hit ratio(BCHR): IIf your BCHR is high 90 to 100 Then it points to fact that You don't have memory pressure. Keep in mind that suppose somebody runs a query which request large amount of pages in that
    case momentarily BCHR might come down to 60 or 70 may be less but that does not means it is a memory pressure it means your query requires large memory and will take it. After that query completes you will see BCHR risiing again
    SQLServer:Buffer Manager--Page Life Expectancy(PLE): PLE shows for how long page remain in buffer pool. The longer it stays the better it is. Its common misconception to take 300 as a baseline for PLE.   But it is not,I read it from
    Jonathan Kehayias book( troubleshooting SQL Server) that this value was baseline when SQL Server was of 2000 version and max RAM one could see was from 4-6 G. Now with 200G or RAM coming into picture this value is not correct. He also gave the formula( tentative)
    how to calculate it. Take the base counter value of 300 presented by most resources, and then determine a multiple of this value based on the configured buffer cache size, which is the 'max server memory' sp_ configure option in SQL Server, divided by 4 GB.
      So, for a server with 32 GB allocated to the buffer pool, the PLE value should be at least (32/4)*300 = 2400. So far this has done good to me so I would recommend you to use it.
    SQLServer:Buffer Manager--CheckpointPages/sec: Checkpoint pages /sec counter is important to know about memory pressure because if buffer cache is low then lots of new pages needs to be brought into and flushed out from buffer pool,
    due to load checkpoint's work will increase and will start flushing out dirty pages very frequently. If this counter is high then your SQL Server buffer pool is not able to cope up with requests coming and we need to increase it by increasing buffer pool memory
    or by increasing physical RAM and then making adequate changes in Buffer pool size. Technically this value should be low if you are looking at line graph in perfmon this value should always touch base for stable system.
    SQLServer:Buffer Manager--Freepages: This value should not be less you always want to see high value for it.
    SQLServer:Memory Manager--Memory Grants Pending: If you see
    memory grants pending in buffer pool your server is facing SQL Server memory crunch and increasing memory would be a good idea. For memory grants please read this article:
    SQLServer:memory Manager--Target Server Memory: This is amount of memory SQL Server is trying to acquire.
    SQLServer:memory Manager--Total Server memory This is current memory SQL Server has acquired.
       8.  Free List Stalls/sec – Number of requests per second that had to wait for a free page
       9. Free Pages – Total number of pages on all free lists (free lists track all of the pages in the buffer pool that are not currently allocate to a data page, and are therefore available for usage immediately)
    NOTE: If you have NUMA system don't use PLE to monitor memory condition it wont give correct value
    From 2012 Onwards
    Memory management has become easy from 2012 onwards as
    Max server memory also allocated memory for requests which require memory >8KB
    SQLServer:Memory Manager:Free Memory (KB)
    SQLServer:Memory Manager:Target Server Memory (KB)
    SQLServer:Memory Manager:Total Server Memory (KB)
    For NUMA system its also wort monitoring each node.
    Object - SQLServer:Memory Node:Total Node Memory
      (KB)
    Object - SQLServer:Memory Node:Target Node Memory
      (KB)
    Object - SQLServer:Memory Node:Free Node Memory
      (KB)
    Ideally if target server memory is less than or equal to total server memory there wont be memory pressure if target is > total it does not always means its memory pressure
    BCHR would also give you good idea about memory pressure
    If memory grants pending is frequently non zero there is memory pressure

    i just copied some music from my external hard disc to my macbook . how can i make all that music be shown in my iTunes without having double copies of the music??

    Hello Sudhanshu Mishra,
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
    You can have iTunes reference the content where ever it is on your HDD without copying the content to the iTunes library, thus using twice the space.
    If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
    From: Adding music and other content to iTunes
              http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1473
    Additionally if you want the content to then ALSO be located in your iTunes Library folder so everything is all kept together nice and tidy, use this:
    Consolidate your files in the iTunes folder
    Depending on how you imported items into iTunes, some items in your library might be stored in different locations (in another folder or on another hard disk, for example).
    You can consolidate all the files in your library in the iTunes folder—for example, to make it easier to move your library to a new computer.
    Choose File > Library > Organize Library.
    Select “Consolidate files.”Files remain in their original locations, and copies are placed in the iTunes folder.
    To create folders (Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Audiobooks, and so on) inside your iTunes folder, and place all your imported media files in the appropriate folders, select “Reorganize files in the folder ‘iTunes Media.’”

  • What is the earliest generation iPad that will accept iOS 8?

    Hello!
    Earlier this year, my friend from Moscow, Russia said to me "Please bring me an Apple iPad when you come on vacation!"
    Being from Moscow, she's used to third-rate electronics dumped onto the Russian market from China.  Her last laptop, an Acer Aspire, cost her $2300 and lasted approximately 6 months before literally disappearing behind a puff of smoke.
    Being from America, and generous to a fault, I promptly went to eBay and started snatching up great deals left and right (contrary to some opinions, eBay IS a great place to buy used electronics, if you know what you are looking for, and know how to bid).
    I took her not just "an Apple iPad", but the following GREAT items:  3 iPad Mini's w/ Retina Display (2 w/ Cellular, 1 w/ Wi-Fi only);  1 iPad 4 w/Cellular (her personal favorite!);  2 MacBook Pros (mid 2010, one with an SSD that boots in milliseconds, you should see it to believe it!);  and 2 iPhone 4s.
    She LOVES her new family of Apple products (she is "selling" some of them off to interested buyers at a 'slight' price increase - shhh!), but sadly is not used to the Apple environment, not familiar with tablets or smart phones at all.  Needless to say, she has a LOT of questions.
    Unfortunately, in my generosity, I gave her my all (my suitcase weighed in at 49 lbs, but my carry-on bag was about 120 lbs even ) - that's right, I don't have ANY iPads.   I cannot answer any of her questions except by guessing.
    In order to be able to see and experience for myself the new iOS 8 (and, to be able to answer my friend's questions), I want to buy a used iPad off of eBay, don't want to spend a lot more money on tablets (I have 2 working Google Nexus 7's and 9 under repair, who in his right mind would buy another tablet?!?!?)
    MY QUESTION IS THIS:  What is the earliest generation iPad that will accept iOS 8?  1st, 2nd, 3rd???    I really don't want to spend another $300 buying another iPad 4 or iPad Mini, I feel like I have done my duty, for God, for Apple, for Country, for Mother Russia....
    Hope you enjoyed reading my story, btw....   It's all true - in Moscow tonight there is a gal going to bed with an Apple iPad 4 by her pillow, and she ADORES it!

  • PL/SQL to create a temp table that will be dropped after session ends

    Is it possible in PL/SQL to create a temp table that will be dropped after the session ends? Please provide example if possible. I can create a global temp table in PL/SQL but I am not sure how (if possible) to have it 'drop' once the session ends.
    DB: 10g
    OS: Wiindoze 2003 Server
    :-)

    As others have mentioned (but probably not clearly explained), Oracle treats temporary tables differently to SQL Server.
    In SQL Server you create a temporary table and it gets dropped (automatically I assume, I dont do SQL Server) after the session finishes. This will obviously allow each session to "request" a temporary table to use, then use it, and not have to worry about cleaning up the database after the session has finished.
    Oracle takes a different approach...
    On the assumption that each session is likely to be creating a temporary table for the same purposes, with the same structure, Oracle let's you create a Global Temporary Table a.k.a. GTT (which you've already come across). You only have to create this table once and you leave it on the database. This then means that any code written to use that table doesn't have to be dynamic code and can be verified and checked at compile time, just like code written for any other table. The difference of a GTT from a regular table is that any data you put into that table can only be seen by that session and will not interfere with any data of other sessions and, when you either commit, or end the session (depending on the "on commit delete rows" or "on commit preserve rows" option used when creating the GTT), that data from your own session will automatically be removed and hence the table is cleaned up that way, whilst the actual table itself remains.
    Some people from SQL Server backgrounds try and create and drop tables dynamically in their PL/SQL code, but this leads to problems...
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  begin
      2    execute immediate 'create table my_temp (x number)';
      3    insert into my_temp values (1);
      4    execute immediate 'drop table my_temp';
      5* end;
    SQL> /
      insert into my_temp values (1);
    ERROR at line 3:
    ORA-06550: line 3, column 15:
    PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    ORA-06550: line 3, column 3:
    PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignoredi.e. the code will not compile for direct DML statements trying to use that table.
    They then try and get around this issue by making their DML statements dynamic too...
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  create or replace procedure my_proc is
      2  begin
      3    execute immediate 'create table my_temp (x number)';
      4    execute immediate 'insert into my_temp values (''A'')';
      5    execute immediate 'drop table my_temp';
      6* end;
    SQL> /
    Procedure created.... which looks great and it compiles ok... but... when they try and run it...
    SQL> exec my_proc;
    BEGIN my_proc; END;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01722: invalid number
    ORA-06512: at "SCOTT.MY_PROC", line 4
    ORA-06512: at line 1... oops the code has a bug in it. Our DML statement was invalid.
    This is really something that would have been caught at compile time, if the statement had been a direct DML statement rather than dynamic. And thus we see the problem with people trying to write all their code as dynamic SQL... it's more likely to contain bugs that won't be detected at compile time and only come to light at run time... sometimes only under certain conditions and sometimes once it's got into a production environment. Bad Idea!!!! ;)
    Far better to never create tables (or most other database objects) at run time. Just create them once as part of the database design/implementation and use them as required, allowing you to catch the most common coding errors up front before they get anywhere near a test environment or worse still, a production environment.

    I have changed the email signature on my iPhone, when composing a new email the signature is there, however when I am replying to an email it is not, how can I make sure that the signature is at the end of every email I send?

    Yes I know what you mean about it cluttering the thread and for personal emails it is better without the signature. However this relates to sending business emails from an iPhone so I need the signature present on every email.
    I can't find anything in Settings so I was hoping someone may have some knowledge/information/experience regarding this problem.

    Hi,
    How to find out the list of database tables that will be affected when we use a standard transaction(ex. VA01, MM01..)...?(like When we create a salesorder, which tables and which fields will be affected..?)
    Is there any transaction or a simple way to find out the solution?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Give transaction code and in menu(system- status),  double click onthe Program name.
    Check in TOP INCLUDE - you will find all the tables related to that transaction.
