Can't make X300 baseline recovery disk

I have a new X300 and an 80GB Lacie Safe Mobile Hard Drive connected by USB as Drive F:  ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery does not recognize the existence of this external drive as a destination for my Rescue and Recovery files.  The USB connection was established before the R&R workspace was opened.  The two hardware products otherwise work fine together.

Hey mate,
First of all it would be interesting to know what notebook you have. Maybe it was delivered with Windows 98 recovery disk I dont know.
Theoretically it could be a problem of the CD. Just try another disk and see what happens.

  • NoteBook HP 620.How can you make a System Recovery Disk on HP 620 Notebook?

The HP620 model is possible to recover the system using F11. This utility formats the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7 on the hard drive.
    My question is:
You can make a copy on a DVD media operating system, such as is done with the Recovery Disk Utility on the desktop models?

    Hi,
Click the Start Menu, open All Programs and scroll down the list to see if you have a folder called Recovery Manager - if you do, open it and see if it contains an applications called Recovery Disc Creator.  If you have this application, double click it to launch the program which should then guide you through the process of creating a set of Recovery Discs.

If the Mac in your signature is what you desire to use 10.5 with, you can't do so, it is too new.
If PowerPC application compatibility is what you desire with that Mac, look at this solution:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295#ROSETTALION
10.5 only was distributed by CD and updates to 10.5 from free online downloads.  Why do you want 10.5, and what do you desire to put it on?  Is the person sending 10.5 using 10.5 for anything?  If he is, he can't sell the drive.

  • Can't create a factory recovery disk using the recovery partition that came with my computer

When I push the Q: recovery drive> Create recovery media, I get a message saying
"Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\factory recovery\recovburncd.exe'. Make sure you types the name correctly, and then try again."
How do I go about fixing this and creating a recovery disk?

You can purchase replacements from AppleCare:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support visit online support site.
However, you might want to consider upgrading to Snow Leopard - $29.00 at any local Apple retailer or the Online Store. This may actually be less costly than purchasing replacement discs, although the replacement discs will have the Apple Hardware Test that is not going to be on the Snow Leopard DVD, nor will any of your pre-bundled software.

  • How can I make an invalid dynamic disk Array available to the OS again

    Hello Storage Pros
    The setup
I have a Promise VTrak E610f head unit with 2 VTrak 610j expansion units attached to it together giving me over 27 TB of usable storage space.
At the hardware level I slip the storage into 6 parts containing 7
1TB disks and had the parts  configured into 6 RAID 6 arrays. In the end; each of the 6 arrays gives me 4.6TB of usable storage space.
On the OS level, I have the storage attached to 2 servers: Windows server 2008 and windows server 2008 R2 over a Qlogic fiber channel switch. Each of the 6 arrays are viewable as basic disks of 4,6Tb which I went on to configure as a single RAID 0
spanned volume of 27TB and for that all the disks had to be converted to dynamic.
    The problem
Now comes the problem: On my first attempt to do a firmware update on the VTrak E610f storage; all the volumes were rendered foreign and I had to import them to be able to use them. Although the import was successful, I lost all the set NTFS permissions
and SMB share and I had to manually reconfigure them. Upon doing so The OS registered some inconsistencies in the storage and recommended that I ran chkdsk. Since the storage is that big I reluctantly complied and restarted the server.
The first server was restarted BUT chkdsk did not commence as scheduled, the server powered right up. After logging in to inspect; I discovered - to my surprise, that the disks were now shown as invalid in Disk Manager and were no longer visible to
the OS. Assuming that maybe a restart of the other server and the storage would set things right, I went ahead to do so but to no avail. After rebooting the entire system (including the storage), the other server also displayed the disks as invalid and were
no longer visible to the OS as well.
My question is; how can I make the disk available again from this ‘invalid’ state without losing data?
What I tried but did not help:
Taking the disks offline and then online again did not work, after the disks were online again, they still appeared as invalid.
Reactivating the disks threw an error “operation not allowed on an invalid disk pack”
Calling support of the storage manufacturer: they did not find anything wrong with the system, after 5 hours we had to stop.
I fear converting the array from dynamic to basic will destroy all the data.
HxD is showing no errors in the disks
If there is any expert out there with helpful tips; your assistance will be greatly appreciate.
    Cheers
    John

    Hello  Shoan
Thanks a lot for your response and tips. Sorry I could not get back to you in good time for I had to run some of the tests you provided, it took some time to
    thoroughly re-test the system.
    The summary
The initial firmware upgrade attempt forced 3 disks offline and the other 3 became foreign. I had to re-import them to have access again. after re-importing
the disks I realized  all NTFS permissions and SMB shares of the folders on the disks had disappeared, but at least the disk was visible and accessible at that point - but not fault free. It was recommened that I let chkdsk run. However rebooting the
system to allow chkdsk to run did not result in chkdsk running, instead chkdsk did not run and after restart, the OS showed the disks as invalid. And that is still the case now.
    Response to your questions:
Yes the storage array was (and is still) connected to another server 2008 R2 server when the problem occurred. The second server is also displaying the same problem: the disks are shown as invalid.
The loss of SMB shares and NTFS permissions occurred after the initial firmware upgrade attempt, some disks (3 out of 6 of them) were forcibly offlined and the other 3 were, suddenly, marked as foreign. In the end, and to have access to the disks
I had to online the offlined 3 disks and then reimport the rest of them. From the way I understand it, if the upgrade was not the cause, then at least it was the trigger.
In as far as converting disks from dynamic to basic, I was not in luck so far:
Three of the companies I have contacted (recommended by promise Technology technician) so far only work with smaller disks like 2TB, 27 TB like I have is so
    far too big.
I’m not sure converting the disks to basic will help much though, since that would break the single 27 TB volume which the OS was working with into 6 individual
disks of 4.6 TB. Will I be able to get the data back that was written to just one volume from those 6 individual and unrelated disks?
Above all, I have connected the RAID storage system to a newly installed Server 2008 R2, the disks are also shown as invalid.
I have spent more than 17 hours in remote sessions with a Promise Technology technician trying the resolve the issue. From the technician’s side all seems in place with the exception
that the disks are invalid in the OS.
I have contacted Microsoft Customer Support service with the issue. Given that Microsoft did not manufacture the storage unit, can they help at this point – or am I better off
    putting my hopes else?
Your help is always appreciated and again, thanks for your response and advice.

  • Can I use HP System Recovery Disks on a new hard drive replacement with a lower storage capacity?

Can I use the HP System Recovery Disks from my HP Pavilion dv7t-4000 CTO Select Edition Entertaimnent Notebook PC when I replace the failing hard drive with a smaller storage capacity hard drive?  Right now it is a Toshiba 750GB SATA hard disk drive, 5400 RPM, 2.5 inch small form factor (SFF) and I am planning to replace it with the Toshiba HDKCB26 500GB 2.5 inch Hybrid Hard Drive.  I read that I cannot use a System Image to restore the hard drive because it is a smaller capacity then the original Hard Drive. If this is true, it seems that my only option is to use the HP Recovery Disks.

    Hi:
Normally the HP recovery disks don't work on a smaller hard drive either, but it may be possible in your case if HP offered a 500 GB HDD in that model series.
    No guarantees though.

they are telling me to purchace a new copy of windows 8.
i cant afford that now as i am under 3 years of hp warrenty.
    please help me.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)

    Shubham_ringne,
I just tried a Windows "REFRESH" on my HP 13 Split x2 that came with Window 8 and was upgraded to 8.1 . After clicking REFRESH, Windows stated "Window 8.1 would have to be reinstalled after the Refresh". Additionally, Windows advised that some software, apps, and drivers would need to be reinstalled after the refresh. The Windows "REFRESH" returned the computer to Windows 8. Please see Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8) to start the "REFRESH" process.
The HP Recovery partition should not have changed and should contain the original Windows 8 factory image. Once you have refreshed your computer and it is back to Windows 8, you be able to follow the instructions in Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive (Windows 8) to create you Windows 8 HP Recovery Media.

  • Can i use my notebook recovery disks to migrate from a 640gb hd to a 120 gb ssd?

Hi, I want to replace my 640gb harddrive with an 120 gb ssd. I created 4 recovery disks from the recovery partition of my notebook and i want to use them to recover my windows 7 installation to the SSD. Is this possible? Or does the recovery expects 640gb of drive space for a recovery? Br, Peter

    Hi, Peter:
Most likely the disks will error out and inform you of trying to use them on too small of a hard drive.
    But, give it a go.
If you can't use them, then do this next best thing...
Before you remove your existing HDD, copy your SWSetup folder to a portable hard drive. That contains all of the program and driver installation files that came with your PC in sub-folders. You can click on them now to see what you can reinstall.
    Then...
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to DVD's for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • How can I create a Lion recovery disk when the original machine is down?

Any rapid help with this would be very appreciated - I have university work I need to complete tomorrow.
Machine is a 13" MacBook Pro with Bootcamp and windows 7 installed but the problem is on the Mac partition
    sequence of events:-
I was using MS Word for Mac when it crashed as being unable to write to the disk.
I went to utilities and ran a verify permissions - failures were found - one marked as not repairable
I ran repair permissions - it repaired all but one
I ran verify disk - it said it there was an error which could not be repaired - reformat the drive a restore from backup
I have full time machine backup so thought no problem
I shut down the machine and restarted using  Cmd R and went to disk utilities - no "format disk" option.
Browse on internet finds I have to delete the "Macintosh HD"  partition - re- create it and restore - ok
Find I cannot delete the partition because it cannot unmount the drive - because I have booted from the recovery partition which is on that drive - catch 22
Try to boot from original Snow Leopard disk - LION wont let you do it
Read some more on Internet and find I can boot from the Lion Revovery HD on a USB
Only way of getting it is to download it or create it using the machine I want to recover - but that machine won't boot in OS X ?...
Tried the Lion Internet install but it simply fails with an " error occurred please try again.
So can anyone tell me how I can get a recovery USB written in order to externally boot my Mac and recover it ??
    I have available:-
    Wifi
    USB drives
Time machine backup on external USB drive
    IPad
    windows available on the MacBook
Any help please - I am really desperate
    thanks

If you need to reinstall from scratch:
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

player just starts stops Buzzes than stops, with out loading the disk.. how can i reload my window 7
recovery with out a CD/DVD player ? or is there some way to fix the CD/DVD?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
Here's one option you could try as it will give a good indication whether there is a hardware problem with the optical drive itself.
    Create a bootable Ubuntu CD
The Ubuntu CD you create should run as you boot the notebook ( as should your Recovery Discs ) , so if this will not run, the problem is almost certainly a Hardware issue with the DVD drive or the sata controller.
On another PC, follow the procedure on the link below to create a bootable Ubuntu CD and follow the steps in Part 3 to 'Try it' to see if your noteboo will run this OS from the CD.  The 'try it' option does not need to install on the Hard Drive, it just runs from the CD.
    http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download
Let me know if this will run.

Technically, that is not supported by Apple, although many folks (including me) are doing it anyway: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/15139.html
