Can't manually rearrange playlist

This is really weird. I just bought some new songs and dragged and dropped them into a playlist. Normally, iTunes just puts the new songs at the bottom of the playlist and allows me to rearrange the songs into the order I want manually. But for this playlist, it won't let me do that. Is this something to do with the settings on a certain playlist? I bought several songs a few days ago and didn't have this problem with any other playlists. Any suggestions on how to solve this one?
Thanks!

Check at the top of the iTunes window and see what heading (i.e. Name, Artist, Album, Time, Year, etc.) you have selected. I believe that the arrow on the far left — which allows you to order the tracks by dragging them into place — is iTunes' default, but if you’ve inadvertently selected a different heading, it forces the tracks to be sorted according to that criteria.

Why can't I add playlist on my old iPhone iTunes on my computer? Can add it on my phone manually but I need to do it on the computer.
This is an old iPhone that I am only using as an Ipod. It is an Iphone 3GS and I now have an iPhone 4S.
Any help would be much appreciated!

I assume that you mean that you do have an iPhone because messages will not work with any other type of cell phone. You should be able to add your phone number in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at, if your phone number is lited in there, select it and then uncheck your email address and then the iPad will be using the phone number just like the iPhone.
If you phone number is not listed in there, you probably have to sign out/turn off Messages on the phone and the iPad and then start over again on the phone - and then your phone number should be accessible to use on the iPad.

  • How can I manually transfer album artwork from my library to my iPod

I downloaded album artwork to the songs in my library, and now I want to get the artwork onto the songs on my iPod classic. Problem is, I manually manage the songs on my ipod, instead of auto-syncing.... so when I hit the "sync" button in the latest version of iTunes (11.1.1.11), nothing happens. There also isn't a "show album artwork on iPod" button anymore. I'm afraid to change my settings from manual to automatic syncing, because I have lots of playlists on my iPod that aren't in my library, and I don't know if these playlists will be removed during the auto-sync. So how can I manually get the album artwork onto my iPod?
    Thanks,
    Rob

You can only backup iOS devices.
Sadly the old trick of removing all artwork and then adding it all back again no longer works. You may get some joy if you removed the specific album, then add it back again, butgenerally once things go wrong with artwork on a classic the only option is to restore it. Not a problem if all the media is in your library and you sync with a small number of selected playlists. If you don't have all the media see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Can I delete a Playlist from an iPhone but keep it on the Mac?

I have iTunes match on my Mac and activated on my iPhone.  I keep as little music as possible on the iPhone due to space limitations.  My thinking was that I would download what I want to listen to on the the way home from work, then delete it to download something else -- basically, only keeping what I'm currently listenting to at the time.  I know that if I download an album, I can delete the songs manually from the iphone, or the entire album.  The result will be no songs on the phone, all of them in the cloud and all of them still on my Mac.
Playlists, however, seem to act differently.  I downloaded a playlist that I no longer want on my phone, but of course want on my Mac.  I now have questions:
    1.  Can I delete the playlist form my phone with one swipe/delete?
    2.  If I do, will the playlist still appear on my Mac at home? (from what i've read, no)
    3.  If I delete select songs from the playlist, or all of them manually, I believe the playlist will still exist on my mac, but be empty.  True?
In a perfect world, you should be able to swipe a playlist and choose either "delete playlist only from this iOS device" or "delete playlist from all devices".  Thanks.

I did this recently on an iPod Classic: attach to iTunes, on the device summary tab check manually sync music, then deleted the music and playlists I wanted off the iDevice.  They remain on the computer's iTunes but by keeping the device identified as manual sync they do not go back.

  • Can't create smart playlists because iTunes can't see all my playlists

I noticed that my smart playlists aren't updating properly. When I tried to edit them, I got an error message saying "This smart playlist depends on one or more playlists that cannot be found."  I am using as one of my rules "Playlist is" but the dropdown list next to that rule does not show all of my playlists. It shows some of my smart playlists, none of the "regular" playlists. That means I cannot fix the smart playlist.
For example, I have a playlist called "exercise" that is a regular playlist. It contains 965 songs that I have added manually. I can see the "Exercise" playlist just fine in iTunes, and I can add/remove songs from it. But my smart playlist, "Top Exercise Rare Recent," does not work, because it depends on the rule "Playlist Is Exercise." When I try to edit the rule "Playlist is," I cannot choose "Exercise" from the dropdown list--that playlist simply does not show up. But it is there. I can see it in iTunes. I just can't see it in the dropdown list.
I don't even know what to try to fix this.
In case it matters, a few versions ago, an iTunes update "lost" my library. I had saved backup of my library files, fortunately, so I did not lose all of my ratings and playlists (at least, I didn't think I did). After I restored my library files, iTunes did not recognize my iPod classic so I had to re-sync it (removing everything that was on it and replacing it with whatever was in iTunes, i.e., exactly the same files). Then the next update broke my ability to burn playlists to cds AND it broke my system clock. I had to revert to a restore point that preceded the iTunes update, then reinstall iTunes, then "repair" the installation to get my cd burning ability back.
I am now using iTunes 11.3.1.2 on a Windows 8.1 PC (64-bit). Wishing I had never update

Thanks for the clarification. Sorry, it's working for me so I'm not sure what to suggest. Perhaps someone else will have ideas.
    Regards.

  • Can't manually add songs/video

So I've read the help file, which says to go to the "Summary" tab and select "Manually manage music and video" or something like that.
The only problem is, no such button or checkbox or anything exists on the Summary tab, or anywhere else that I've been able to find.
Truly, this is why I hate iTunes, and I was reluctant to buy an iPhone because of it. It's ridiculous that all I want to do is a few simple things that are easily done on non-Apple products, but with iTunes, there always seems to be something that makes the process painfully tedious.
So, IS there a way to manually add songs and video?? Or must I put EVERY song and video on my computer on my iPhone, or else none at all?
    Message was edited by: ToyMachine

It's great that you've found this forum, and a quick search would have found the answer. Make a playlist, put the songs you want to put on your iphone in the playlist, sync that playlist to your phone. Anytime you want to change what's on your phone, just change what's in the playlist, then sync. Add tunes, remove tunes, whatever you want. It all works through the playlist.
If you find this process so tedious, consider that if you have different devices you might want them to have different tunes on each of them. Playlists accomplish this brilliantly. You can even have several playlists for different kinds of things, and sync multiple lists to your different devices. For example, if you've got some audiobooks, some tunes, some movies, etc., you can make separate lists for each kind, and sync only the lists you want to any of your devices.

  • Old pc crashed how can I upload ipod playlist and save to new pc?

How can I upload my playlist off my IPod to a new pc?

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • I have one playlist on iphone4. how can i add new playlist without deleting old one. i do not have old playlist in itunes any more.

I have one playlist on iphone4. how can i add new playlist without deleting old one. i do not have old playlist in itunes any more. When i try to sync iphone with itunes it says that this action will remove my old playlist and all songs.

"it says that this action will remove my old playlist and all songs."
Are you connecting to a different iTunes library than you normally connect to?  That will erase the songs and playlists since the iPhone can't be connected to multiple libraries even if it is in manual sync mode.
If you no longer have access to the original library that your iPhone calls 'home', then the only way to save the playlist (and the songs on your iPhone) would be to use a 3rd party application to extract your iPhone contents to this new iTunes library you're trying to connect to.

  • HT1535 so I've done all that and I still can't add a playlist I've created in iTunes to the iPod...?

I've followed the instructions to tell the iPod that I want to manage music and video manually, but I still can't add a playlist I've created in iTunes to the iPod...

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • How can I sync my playlists again?

How can I sync my playlists manualy again?
Since the cloud it isn't possible. I was absolutly comfortable with having my Playlists in ituns and make teh on my PC

    Hello Zoey,
Thank you for the question.  If you are not able to manually sync music to your iPhone 4s, I recommend checking if you have the "Manually manage music and videos" option enabled in the Summary tab:
You can find all the steps to manually sync music in the following article:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod

Additionally, I find it convenient to have the sidebar enabled when manually syncing.  You can enable the sidebar by going to View > Show Sidebar.

  • Can i transfer iphone playlist to itunes

can i transfer iphone playlist to itunes

Hey everyone!!! I believe I'm on the right thread and I HOPE SO or an iPhone is about to become a trash weight.
I am trying to figure out a way whereby when I add songs to a playlist via my iPhone and/or re-arrange the Playlist order, I am able to sync my iPhone to iTunes and have iTunes reflect the changes and/or additions I have made to the Playlist.  All of the music isn't necessarily purchased through the iTunes Store, however, they are all .mp3.
I saw the successful feedback about exporting the playlist and then importing back, HOWEVER...
when I click on the right triangle to show my iPhone playlists; it mirrors iTunes.  For example, my playlist has 245 songs and iTunes is showing 237 (both on the playlist below the right triangle and in the Playlist section itself in iTunes.  So if and when I sync, I lose those 8 songs and have to go back and manually add to the playlist on the phone again and re-order etc.
What am I missing and is there a way to make changes on the iPhone and not lose everything during a sync.
I can't thank you enough for any help anyone has to offer!!!!!!!

  • HT5470 How can I keep my playlists in shuffle mode?

I cannot get my iPod nano 7th generation to remain in shuffle mode for my playlists.  I have to manually hit shuffle each time I want to play a playlist.  I use the Nike+ feature a lot and when I start my running playlist, I cannot access the shuffle button.  With my previous iPod nano 7th generation I could keep it in shuffle mode (I had to send that back due to a problem and have a new one), but I cannot figure it out on the new iPod.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Nancy,
If you keep the entire iTunes folder as it was and you're still using the same platform, you'll be able to keep all your playlist and metadata.

Just curious why when you have songs and playlilsts on the IPod it doesn't just sync with the computer? It only syncs from the computer to the IPod not visa versus.
Well, iTunes will only transfer content from the computer to your iPod. However, there's some ways to get around this. Read this carefully:
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

  • Can not manually sync podcasts

I prefer to manually sync everything on my 3G iPod (music, podcasts, etc).
Since updating to iTunes 7, it appears I can not manually copy podcasts to my iPod. It only appears to load podcasts if I choose the Sync option in iTunes.
Not exactly my idea on manually managing my library.
    Bronson

I find the same to be true for me, and it's really frustrating. I used to be able to sync by checking the little boxes next to the episodes I wanted, choose to only update those selected, played or unplayed, and update worked fine. Now that choice is gone, replaced by "last 10" or last 10 unplayed" etc. There is a knowledge base document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.0/en/900.html
    that states:
"To load podcasts onto your iPod manually, deselect Sync and drag podcasts or podcast episodes from your Podcasts playlist to the iPod icon in the iTunes window (below Devices). "
This functionality doesn't function in 7.0. Maybe in 7.0.1????? How soon???????
    OK! OK! TIME OUT!
Last night I tried the dragging action, but with no apparent results. But somehow, 419 "songs" appeared on my iPod from nowhere, and I couldn't seem to determine where they were. duh! So now, I just tried going into the song list by Genre to podcast, and, lo and behold, there are all the missing podcasts I dragged there! but they don't show up in tyhe normal podcast area. I need to go home from work, reconnect the iPod to the Mac, and determine where they are. I'll update here when I do find out!!!!!

  • How can I manually add music to my iDevice with iCloud (especially Ineligible)?

    Greetings!
Is there a way to manually manage my playlists on my iPhone now that I've signed up for iCloud? I've got some tracks that are ineligible (due to being 4 hours long, so conversion is not an option), and I'd like to get them moved over. But they're ineligible.
I would really like some way to manually manage my playlists anyway - it's goofy that I have to wait for music to upload to the cloud then have to re-download it before I can listen to it on my iPhone. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Andy

Thanks for the input. I suppose I could segment the file, that would be OK. It would be nicer if I could simply get the song onto the iDevice w/o doing anything special. Is there a way to *not* use iTunes Match for files like this? Since switching to iTunes in the Cloud / iTunes Match, I can no longer manually select playlists to synch from within iTunes. Is there something I'm missing? What do you mean by "the option on the iDevice to download all associated Song files"?
    Thanks again for the help.
