Can't merge cells in Report Designer

Hi,
Actually you can merge the Cells in Header and Footer. Just that, I think you have older version of the Report Designer.
In 7.10 GUI Release there is now an option to Merge and Unmerge Cells in Header and Footer.
Please check the Report Designer Version from HELP about. It should be atleast 7.1 with Front End Patch level 5 and Above.
I have the same Issue. My Version of RD which is for Release 2004s it does not work but on another machine with GUI 7.1 it works so check that out.

I had to check for some details from Development.
You also need to have FEP 14 for the BI 7.x tools on SAP GUI 6.40, which was just released on Friday. You can find it at service.sap.com/swdc. In the format menu, you will now see a "Link Cells" option.
With the link cells option, you cannot merge across row patterns. That means that you will probably have to make some changes to your report before you can merge the cells, based on what you described.
I imagine that you started out with a report section something like the following (dashes added for formatting purposes):
G0 Header ...
G1 Header -
Controlling Area
Detail -
Func Area
And then moved controlling area to the right to the same column as functional area:
G0 Header ...
G1 Header -
Controlling Area
Detail -
Func Area
Resulting in an output that would look like:
CA1000
FA ABCA
FA ABCB
FA ABCC
CA2000
FA ABCA
FA ABCB
FA ABCC
As shown above, these cells cannot be merged because they cross row patterns. You would instead need to move the controlling area member down to the same row as functional area:
G0 Header ...
G1 Header
Detail -
Controlling Area Func Area
You can now merge these cells, resulting in an output that would look like the following:
CA1000 FA ABCA
CA1000 FA ABCB
CA1000 FA ABCC
CA2000 FA ABCA
CA2000 FA ABCB
CA2000 FA ABCC
To merge the cells, you would simply highligh both cells with your cursor and then select the option from the menu.

Merging Cells in Report Designer

according to SAP Documentation http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/d7/6b9b41aa6ca309e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
it shall be possible to merge cells within Report Designer. However I have tried it on several ways but was never able to find this functionality.
Also I can not find many other of those cell properties described in the link above. Woeking with Frontend Patch 7, Revision 61
Any help is highly appreciated.

FYI. I am able to merge cells in the Report Designer by selecting multiple cells, and then selecting 'Merge Cells' from the context sensitive menu. I am using the latest SP for ABAP, JAVA, and front-end.
An alternative to merging cells is merging texts within one cell. This will often do.

i have bougth number and pages (apple) and can seem to merge cell on there even if i send a document.
i want to buy another app so i can do this i was thinking Documents to go but any suggetion.

Quickoffice spreadsheets: Can you merge cells? Protect cells?

I have several forms created in Excel that I would like to use on iPad. I am searching around for the right/best app to use for these forms. If anyone who has used Quickoffice could answer a few questions I would greatly appreciate it.
1. When I open an Excel file in Quickoffice will any changes automatically be made to the file just by opening it with this application?
2. Is it possible to merge cells?
3. Is it possible to protect cells/sheets?

As far as I can tell from Your figure, You have selected something (yellow box) outside (?) of the table? Or is the selection column 1 of the table?
- If You selected something outside of the table, You cannot "merge" something which is not part of a table;
- if it is indeed column 1 of a table, all the cells have already been merged int one.
Like our antipodes would say..."No worries, mate"... AS far as I can tell from the figure, the merge function seems to be working.
If I am wrong, please don't feel offended and clarify Your problem.

I want to merge all the cells that belong to a number with the following cells until an empty cell comes. In this example cells 1-3, 5-8. After I merged these I want to set their height to 1.
Is this possible with apple script? I tried it, but apple script says "can't get height".
Do you guys have any idea?

Report Designer Heading

Hi,
I have created a Report in Report Designer and executing the same in the portal. My report has a Header, report section and Footer. In the Report section of the Report, the first row is the Heading of the columns like Material, customer, sold to party, Bill to party, etc.. When i execute the report in the portal, this heading row is displayed in the first page. When i move to the second page, i could only see the header, footer & the values but not the Heading row. I want the Heading row also to appear in all of the pages in Portal. I have checked all the options available in Report Designer but couldnt find anything relevant to this.
Any help on this? Thanks for all ur time.

ONLY the "Header Section" and "Footer Section" will be displayed on each page. If you want the column headings to display on every page you must put them in the Header Section of the report. Just add columns to the Header to match your report format then type in your columns headers in the "Header section."
NOTE: When you first add a header section to the report it adds it as one big row (really one big column). Just click the top of the default header row and add columns to match your formatting. Then resize them to fit the page.
If you need, you can also MERGE cells together (similar to Excel) to get the length required for your formatting.

How to convert Report Model to Report Designer DataSet

I have a two part question. One is I am experiencing the error at the end of this question when migrating SQL Server 2005 SSRS Native Reports, the report uses a Report Model, to SQL Server 2008 SSRS Native. I bring the Report and Report Model to SQL Server 2008 SSRS and get the error at the end of the question below. Background and the 2nd question are below.
I have a bunch of Report Builder based Reports. I need to convert them to VS BIDS based Report Designer Reports with Shared Datasources and MDX based DataSets.
How can I grab the MDX from the Report Builder Report Model so I can put it into the Report Designer DataSet Query Definition?
What is the easiest way to make this migration between these Report development environments.
I am able to open the Report.RDL file in VS BIDS and can see the entire UI layer. The DataSet I see here is the one that is related to the error at the end of the question. The RD/DataSet holds:

I have created a Shared Datasource that points the the correct Analysis Services cubes that the original Report Model pointed at.
However, I get this error when running the report:
An error occurred during client rendering.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Semantic query compilation failed: e EmptySemanticQuery The SemanticQuery does not contain any Groupings or MeasureGroups. SemanticQuery must contain at least one of these elements. (SemanticQuery '').

Actually the error above is from running the report on SSRS 2008 Native. Does anyone know why I get this error and how it may be resolved.
Then I try to bring the report into BIDS RD and create a SDS and DataSet. The Semantic Query above is from the RD DataSet Query window.
I get the following error when running the report in BIDS RD:
An error occured during local processing.
An error has occured during report processing.
Query execution failed for dataset 'dataSet'.
The SemanticQuery element at line 7, column 351 (namespace http://schema.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/10semanticmodeling) cannot appear under Envelope/Body/Execute/Command.
So I have two errors with two scenarios. I'd like to know how to resolve one of them.
I'd also like to know how to get the MDX from the RB/RM report so I can put it into the VS BIDS Version and get that to work properly.

Equivalent to SpreadSheet? (I need to merge cells)

Hey all,
I'm making a program dealing with scheduling.
Now i need something that works as a Spreadsheet.
a lot of you may say 2 use JTable,
but there's a problem with that idea, i can't merge cells.
For example
The Columns are days of the week, Rows are Activities
i have an activity that is 3 days long,
i want that activity/cell to be 3 cells long( like in excel when you merge cells).
any ideas on how i can achieve this? or alternative ideas?
any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you are using table, then realign the table my adding 2 cells in a row. Go to Main window==> table==> table tab==> click on details.. Now you will get the row details. Choose the row where you wants the merge. Let us consider you wants to merge cell 3 (2cm) & 4 (1 cm). then put 2 +1 = 3 cm for cell 3 and delete cell 4. Note: content will be deleted for this

Report Designer missing 'group level' area - GUI problem?

Hi all -
I have a few questions here that I think are related, so I'm posting in one thread.
1) As far as what I've been reading on, we can upgrade to BI 7.0 even with a front-end SapGUI 640 (patch 19). True or False?
2) One can <u>only</u> use Report Designer with SapGUI 710. True or False?
And here's a long one...
3) When you open Report Designer should we see "Group Level" on the right-hand side (if it's checked to show)? Mine (having sapgui 710 at patch 1) was showing just the ruler, but not the "Group Level" areas... is this a gui issue? What's the fix?
[my history of GUI install:
Before upgrade: Sap GUI 640 patch 8
After upgrade: Installed NW4s BEx components only
(then getting dumps in the r3 back-end) so installed SAP GUI 710 from 50083078_4 cd.
Report Designer missing the group level areas... I thought, might as well install patch 01. But that did not help.]

I had a couple issues to 710 with the report designer. i didnt had anything similar to ur issue, but all my default and specifics of format catalog were blacked out and not allowing me to change that. I downgraded to 640 and everything works fine now. (I tried installing all possible latest and greatest on the GUI but nothing worked and it costed me a whole day to acknowledge the fact)

Report Designer doesn't render images

Hi,
I'm just starting to explore SSRS on SQLServer 2014. So I build a Report with a Background Image (this is an external Picture which resides in the Project Folder) and an Image Object (this is an external Picture which resides somewhere on one of our Network
Servers). When I deploy the Reporting Project to the reporting Server, all the Images are correctly displayed.
When I Display the same Report in VS using the Preview window there is either no Picture visible or instead of the Picture there is only a red x displayed.
I'm using Microsoft SQL Server Standard (64-bit) Version 12.0.2000.8 as DB Server on which SSRS is running and Visual Studio 2013 Update 4 with the Report Designer.
I would have liked to Show the Pictures of the Output but this Forum Software didn't upload my Pictures :-(

According to your description, you add an embed image and an external image in your report. The image can display correctly on report manager, but it can’t display well in report designer.
In your scenario, since that image is from other network server, please check if you can access the image which stores on the Network Server on the develop environment side. If not, please grant permission to access that image. If you can access the image
and it still can’t be displayed in Visual Studio, please add custom code to read the image from HttpResponse, then render it into an image in your report. Please refer to the following article:

Report Designer - 'Merge Cells' option missing

In our Report Designer, I don't see 'Merge Cells' option under 'Format' in the menu.
We are on SAP GUI 710 FEP 3. Please help.
