Can't merge contacts with iCloud

I've updated my iPhone to iOS5 recently and everything's fine except for my contacts.
Once I open one of my contacts, it  closes automatically and won't allow me to call anyone.
I've tried syncing my contacts with iCloud but once i switch to 'ON' and press 'MERGE', it closes again and goes back to the homepage.
I checked the iCloud settings again and  it's still 'OFF', I can't seem to turn it on as it keeps  closing the app.
Can anyone please help me?

Hi there - it's me again - found a solution which involved a totally clean restore as a new iPhone.
Do NOT USE an existing BACK-UP to restore or YOU'LL END UP WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS.
When asked to sign on to iCloud ----DECLINE ---- then put your stuff back on piece by piece. After all that's done you can switch Contacts on in iCloud and Roberts your Auntie's husband.
Once all done back it up a few times to overwrite old existing back-ups.
Best of luck

  • IPad can't sync contacts with iCloud

I need some help....  I have an iMac running Mtn Lion (10.8.2) and an iPad3 (6.0.1) and I'm trying to sync the two in iCloud.  Contacts are giving me a headache.  I've got the contacts into iCloud so I went to iTunes, clicked on the iPad and went to "info".  Thought everything was OK but no contacts (actually there are a couple) on the IPad.  Went back to iTunes and clicked on the iPad. went to "info" and now there is no box to check next to "Sync Contacts" and the message in the box says  "Your contacts are being synced with you iPad over the air from iCloud" and "Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPad."  My contacts are syncing (iPad) with iCloud and I can't figure out to get the check box back so I can choose to sync my contacts.  I know there are other threads out there with similar questions but I couldn't find anything that helped me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Correction....my iPad contacts are NOT syncing with iCloud

  • To merge contacts with iCloud

Hi all. Yesterday I activated iCloud on my iPhone 3 and I lost all my contacts. They disappeared!!! Does anybody know what could have happened? Heeeelp!
    Thanks

Try this as a test.  Using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com and then look at the Contacts page.  If gone, then they are truly gone.  If not, then you need to connect your device to that same account.
Settings>icloud, be sure you have signed into the same account.  If different, scroll to bottom of page and tap Delete Account, then log in with the correct ID and password.

  • Can't sync contacts with icloud

I have new iPad mini.  Reminders, notes and calendar are all synching.  iMac set also to synch contacts, and all are displayed on icloud group when i click on contacts, icloud.  But none display on iPad mini even though I have it turned on in the iPad mini iCloud settings.  I have tried turning that setting on and off and waiting.  I have tried putting iPad mini to sleep and resuming.  can't seem to get it.

never mind.  removed and repeated set-up of contacts from iMac to iCloud and it all synched to ipad.

  • Merged my Contacts with iCloud and lost all new contacts

    Hi all,
Mac OSX Lion.  I made a bunch of new groups on my (desktop computer) contacts book, as I went through the contacts book, I reviewed and updated contact info for nearly a thousand contacts.  I spent literally hours parsing out my client contacts into three client contact groups that I made.
I realized that I had never turned on iCloud syncing in the iCloud preferences.  I turned on the Contacts Syncing option in the iCloud pref and was asked if I want to Merge my local contacts with iCloud.  I said Yes.  After the Merge was finished, the three new groups that I made had vanished, and all of the contacts that I had meticulously updated had gone back to their previous state.
Needless to say, this is really upsetting.  Anyone else seen this problem?  Any magic button I can press to bring back all of my hard work?
For what it is worth, after this fiasco, I decided to see if iCloud was working properly, created a few test contacts on my iPad, desktop computer, and notebook... all three worked perfectly by instantly sharing the info to each other.
The main problem appears to have been the "Merge" when I turned iCloud syncing on after having created a lot of new contact info on my desktop computer.

Your daughter must have signed into your iCloud account, perhaps when she updated her phone.  You can confirm this by going to Settings>iClloud on her phone and seeing if she is using the same iCloud ID.
To fix this you would need to migrate her phone to a separate iCloud account.  To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos that she wishes to keep on your phone to her camera roll by opening her my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tapping the share icon (box with upware pointing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.
Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and provide the password when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone.  This only deletes the account from her phone, not from iCloud; it won't effect your device(s).  When you delete the account you will be asked if you want to keep or delete the iCloud data from her phone.  If she needs to migrate a copy of the data to her new account, choose Keep; otherwise, choose Delete.  Then sign back in with a separate Apple ID to create her new account and if migrating data to the new account, choose Merge when prompted.
Once she is on a separate account, if she migrated a copy of the data to her new account you can go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into her new iCloud account and delete your data from her account.

  • How can I sync my iPhone contacts to my Mac and vice-versa, without losing them? Can i do it with iCloud?

I always add new phone numbers on my iPhone Contacts, while new email addresses are always added on my Mac Contacts. The result is that I dont have my recent email contacts on my phone, while on the Mac I dont have the recent phones.
I would like to have ONE common list of contacts (same for iPhone & Mac) which will be AUTOMATICALLY updated for both, once I add a new entry.
I am not sure how to do this with syncing, I am afraid I wll lose my old contacts. Can I do this with iCloud?

    Hello there, Seta.
You are correct that this can be done with iCloud. The following Knowledge Base article provides some great instruction for syncing contacts:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1296
    Particularly:
    Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, and Notes
You can sync contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and notes with other applications on your computer. This allows you to keep all your information in sync across multiple computers and iOS devices. The settings for these items are all in the Info tab for your iOS device in iTunes. With your iOS device connected to the computer, select your iOS device. Then click the Info tab.
For details on syncing content on your iOS device with your computer, click the sections below.
    Contacts
To sync contacts with your computer, choose "Sync Contacts with" within iTunes for Windows, or "Sync Contacts" in OS X v10.8, or "Sync Address Book Contacts" in OS X v10.7 and earlier.
You can sync your contacts with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
    Windows Address Book (Windows XP)
Windows Contacts (Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
Address Book (Mac OS X v10.7 and earlier)
    Contacts (Mac OS X v10.8)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008, or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
    Notes:
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups. The option to sync selected items may not show up until after the first sync.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
Additional options for syncing include syncing your contacts with Yahoo or Gmail/Google Mail. You will need to configure it with the user name and password for your Yahoo or Google account.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • HT3748 since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mac Mail no longer works well w/exchange email; so, I have had to switch back to outlook. Now, how can I use outlook for mac's calendar and contacts with icloud?

Since uprgading to Mountain Lion, my mac mail no longer works with my exchange email properly. I finally gave up and moved back to outlook for mac, but now my new issue is using outlook calendar and contacts with icloud; possible?

Sorry but I'm really not to sure what I have. I'm not good with knowing my computer model. All I know is that its a MacBook running with Leopard. I got my computer last year so I suppose its fairly new. Is there a place on my computer where I can check to see what it is (sorry to be so dumb with my own mac)
And everything else works fine. I love Safari. It's just my mail that doesn't work. Here's the message that pop up several times.
"The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.mac.com” rejected the password for user “akcastaldo”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel."
The only problem here is, even though I enter my password it doesn't do anything. It makes that message go away for about 3-5 mins. After that it pops right back up. And I can't even go into my preference and change my email password. So I don't know what to do.

  • Can't sync contacts with Blackberry phone after migration to iCloud

Can't sync contacts with Blackberry phone after migration to iCloud. The only way to do is to have a local copy of address book. What else can I do (before BB will fix the bug)?

Ah! This explains why I have been tearing my hair out for the past 24 hours trying to get my contacts from Address Book to my new BB Torch!
    I found a workaround for a one-time sync:
    1. go into Address Book prefs and temporarily change Default account from iCloud to On My Mac (this makes the "All on My Mac" category visible)
    2. Go back into your contacts window, select all of your contacts, and copy them to All on My Mac (this will create duplicates of everything)
    3. Sync the BB.
    3. Return to prefs to change default account back to iCloud, and select all the contacts in All on My Mac and delete them, thereby removing all duplicates.
This solution only works for a one-time sync and needs to be repeated for future syncs.
Let's hope BB comes up with an iCloud compatible update ASAP!

  • How can I synchronize my Outlook for Mac 2011 contacts with iCloud?

Don't works synchronize my outlook for mac 2011 contacts with iCloud. Someone can help me please?

Outlook 2011 for Mac is not compatible with iCloud Contacts & Calendars because Microsoft do not support the industry standard CardDAV and CalDAV protocols that iCloud uses.

  • Can I synch Comcast contacts with iCloud contacts?

synch Comcast contacts with iCloud contacts?

You can't sync any other contact sync services with iCloud contacts - it is an independent service.
You may be able to import Comcast contacts (whatever that is) into iCloud though for syncing between your iOS devices and computer. Ask comcast.

  • TS3988 how can i merge my two icloud accounts information

How can I merge my two iCloud accounts information

Apple doesn't provide a direct merge operation but you can connect in one account, disconnect but keep the data on the device, then connect with the other account and merge the data.
    Details...
When connected to the account you want to GET data from, Go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.
When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone.
After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  Next, log into the other iCloud account using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to this new account.
Note that this only affects the "Apple data" like contacts, calendars, reminders, etc.  Many third party apps also use iCloud to store data files there.  These files may be lost in the process, unless the apps also keep the data locally on the device.
NOTE:  Photos in the first account's photo stream (if you use it) will not transfer to the other account.  It is advised that you save the photos to a computer before performing the account switch.

At http://icloud.com go to the Contacts page. Select all your contacts, click the cogwheel icon at bottom left and select 'Export vCard'.
Now open Address Book on your Mac. From the File menu choose 'Import' and select your exported file. Of course if it contains entries which are also on the Mac you will get duplicates.
