Can't migrate. Says no OSX on old Mac. Help!

Setup assistant on new Mac Mini says "no versions of Mac OS X available on your old Mac".
Old Mac is Dual core Mac Pro running Leopard in target disk mode, connected with Firewire.

I completed the Setup Assistant to the point where I actually got to the desktop, and saw the Mac Pro icon. I ran the Migration Assistant but it still couldn't see the Mac Pro.
Although the Mini came with Leopard, it was not installed. It came with Tiger installed and a Leopard upgrade disk.
I upgraded Mini to Leopard and ran Migration Assistant. I chose migrate "from another volume" instead of "from another Mac" and it worked.
A few quirky side effects (like having to re-register software that was already registered) but for the most part it was painless.
Thanks for your help!

Call Apple and make a appointment.

I'm having a similar problem...but mine results from an OS upgrade from 10.6.4 to 10.8.5.
Where did you access a clean copy of Java SE 6?  The link at adobe for archicval plug-ins is a dead download (and it doesn't appear to contain Java SE 6.).

  • I would like to migrate my idvd from my old Mac powerbook to my new Macbook pro? How to do it? Can someone show me the steps?

my new Macbook Pro does not have idvd and my old one has, so would like to transfer my idvd from my old mac to my new one. Can i do that? and how? thanks.

Right, I finally managed to get it sorted out.
iCloud only accept version 3.0 vcards, and the one I was using were version 2.1 so that's why it wasn't picking it up. So the easy way to get that sorted out is, use a gmail account.
I know you don't wanna do it because you think it's too much hassle and stuff, but trust me it only takes 5 minutes and that's it.
    1. Create a Gmail Account.
    2. Export your Old VCard files to the Gmail Account.
    3. Now Import them from Gmail to your PC again.
And, that's it, that's just makes the new imported version in 1 file contains your all contacts in version 3.0. Now you can just upload that on icloud and then sync it with your iphone.
That's what I did and it worked, and I am sure if you wanna replace this file in the Contacts folder under your User Account in Windows and then try to sync Contacts in Tunes, it should work, but as I said, I did it with iCloud and it worked for me. So aye, that's pretty much it. Phewwww..
Been searching for it for the whole day and it took 5 minutes in the end, badass...
Anyway, don't lose hope and always Google for everything!

How can i move my leopard software from my old mac laptop to my new imac?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To transfer software, the only way is using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant. There are different ways of transferring data from a Mac to another one. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4889
Migration Assistant and Setup Assistant will ask you for the things you want to restore

  • I'm trying to transfer my iPhoto library to a new mac and I can't find the library on my old mac.

When I "revel in finder" a photo in my iPhoto app on my old mac, it shows the path: hard drive, user, meghanica, library, iphoto library and so on. BUT when I go to my hard drive and try to follow that path on my laptop, there is no "library" folder to open in meghanica. I have tried to spolight the library folder with no luck. All of my photos that I've looked at in iPhoto show this path. I can't figure out why when I go to my hard drive, it's not there. Any ideas? I'm using updated iPhoto '11 on os x Lion on a macbook pro. Thanks!

It sounds like the library might have been placed in your Home/Library folder which is invisible.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For  Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
When you find the iPhoto library move it to your Pictures folder.

  • How can I transfer my itunes from an old mac to a new one?

I recently purchased a new mac. I need to transfer my itunes from an old mac to another mac. How can I do that?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

  • Can't see photos copied over from old mac - any ideas?

I copied my photo library over from my old mac (same method as I used for my iTunes library, which worked) to my new one. I just dragged out the original empty library folder and put the one from the old mac in its place. Non of the photos showed up.
I figured I would deal with it later and have since added photos from my camera. I am now trying to see the older photos but no luck. My photo library, seen from within iPhoto, has albums for the years listed but without the pictures.
I did the rebuild but that didn't change anything. I tried importing them but iPhoto tells my I can't import them since they are already in the library.
Anyone know how to solve this?
    Thanks,
    David

Do you still have a copy of your original library from the old Mac?
    If so try the following:
1 - copy it again to the Pictures folder.
2 - download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
3 - launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and select that library folder to open.
Now see if the album gets converted correctly. You can move your other iPhoto library folders to the desktop temporarily until you see if this procedure is any more successful.
Also update to 10.4.9 with the COMBO updater and update Quicktime to the latest version, 7.1.5. Of course repair disk permissions afterward with Disk Utility.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can you move mail folders from an old .Mac account to a new .Mac account?

I hope someone can help since even the Mac Genius at the Apple Store nor Applecare seem to know.
Due to massive spam to my .Mac account & it's alias accounts I opened a new .Mac account before my old account died. However, without any answers my old account died last night. Which probably doesn't help.
    1. Is there a way to move my mail folders in 'mail app' from my old .Mac account over to the new .Mac account?
    2. In 'mail app' > preferences > add account > the pop-up box for the new account automatically shows my old .Mac account information, full name, description, user name. But, if I replace that information with my new .Mac account name and info no one can tell me if that automatically delete any mail folders/information from the old account.
Basically I'm lost because no one seems to understand how the system works, not even the Mac Genius.
    Any ideas?

    You're welcome.
Second, because I couldn't get any real answers somehow last night I managed to drag & drop my 'mail app' mail folders onto my desktop. At least I have it there, LOL.
What do you mean by Mail.app mail folders? There is a single Mail folder which contains all Mail.app data (account folders, mailboxes, rules, junk mail learned settings, etc.) except for the Mail.app preference file which stores all account information and is stored in your Preferences folder.
Did you place a copy of the entire Mail folder located at Home > Library > Mail on the Desktop?
The question is can that mail folder from the desktop be placed into mail with the new .Mac account? Some of the old folders were from "on my mac" and some with .Mac & the server so not really sure what moved to the desktop. But, at least it's something.
The answer to this question is no. User created "On My Mac" location mailboxes are stored locally on the hard drive and are not associated with any account. User created "On My Mac" location mailboxes are located in the Mailboxes folder at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes are are not deleted when deleting an account or changing existing account information with Mail.
When creating an account with Mail, an account named folder is created within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account. The associated account mailboxes are located within the account named folder with the exception of locally stored mailboxes for a .Mac type account or IMAP account. Locally stored mailboxes for a .Mac type account or IMAP account are located in the Mailboxes folder at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes. This would be the account's Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes if these mailboxes are not stored on the server which is available under the Mailboxes Behaviors tab for the account preferences.
Since a .Mac type account is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way, you have the option to store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages locally on the hard drive with Mail for the account preferences.
Were you accessing your old .Mac account as a .Mac type account with Mail and if so, what were/are your settings under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences for Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages - storing these messages on the server or locally on the hard drive?
Since a .Mac type account with Mail is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way, messages in the account's Inbox mailbox remain on the server and since Apple/.Mac has now cancelled this account, messages in the account's Inbox mailbox on the server have been deleted.
When you open the 'mail app' >file>add account> the pop-up box automatically has the information in there from the expired .Mac account.
Is your old .Mac account information still available at System Preferences > .Mac under the Account tab?
If so, this is where the Mail.app is getting the old .Mac account information which needs to be changed to your new .Mac account information.
If you placed a copy of the Mail folder on the Desktop for backup purposes, you can can create your new .Mac account with Mail which should not change or affect your existing .Mac account with Mail but you cannot "merge" account named folders and mailboxes between two accounts.
You can use the Import Mailboxes feature to import the old account's Sent mailbox if you did not store Sent messages on the server for your old .Mac account preferences.

  • Can I install Snow Leopard on an old mac mini?

Hi, my parents have an old mac mini and they have bought a new camera to use for Skype, but it won't work on their current OS (Panther or Tiger I think).
So, can I install a newer operating system on the old mac?
    Thanks

    how about Leopard 10.5?
10.5.8 is fine. Obtaining it may be more difficult.
You'll need a Leopard retail install disk.
    This info is provided by TexasMacMan, with updates from me;
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24950
Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). {Note - this is now very unlikely, but no harm in asking}.
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on Amazon MP, eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
    MB021Z/A , MC094Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)
    MB022Z/A , MC095Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)
