Can't monitor audio, why?

This is FCP 5.1.4 on a G4.
When I play audio I see it on the meters and I see waveforms, but can't get sound from the computer speakers or the headphone jack.
I've tried various things in the AV settings with no luck.
We've just been given this system with no history or setup help...
thanks

Open System Preferences (the Blue Apple in the menu bar).
Click on Audio.
Uncheck the Mute box.

    Hi chuckcox!
    Thanks for posting.
There is not a port on the EOS 70D that allows headphones to be connected for monitoring audio.  However, the camera does have an HDMI port, which carries an audio signal.  You can send the HDMI signal to an external monitor that does allow you to connect headphones and monitor the audio.

  • Sent an video via text but can only hear audio. why can't see the video?

i was sent a video through text but cannot see it. i can only hear the audio. why?

maybe it was sent in a format that cannot be read by the iPhone.

  • How can I monitor audio that I am recording from external source?

I am recording music from LP records (vinyl) and need to be able to listen to it while recording. It is impossible to know when a track is finished if you can't hear the music from either internal speakers or headset. Is there any way I can passthrough the sound from line in to internal speakers or headset?

Look at LineIn for audio playthru.

  • Can't get audio to sound after adding to video

Using Quicktime Pro 7.6.2. I followed the "very simple" instructions:
    1. Opened audio file, Select All, Copy
    2. Open video file(Quicktime movie with no audio) and selected Edit/Add to Movie and saved as self-contained.
I see the sound layer there, but in the saved file's movie properties, there is no checkbox and there is no way to "check" it. What am I doing wrong? I just want to add an mp3 as a soundtrack to the movie and then send it to a friend.

I've just spent a while trying to figure this out ...
I used this feature (monitoring audio on import) all the time in previous versions of iMovie ...
Kind of essential I think ...
Now we have a new 'feature' in iMovie where you can't monitor audio during import.
Wouldn't it be nice if Apple documented this somewhere (maybe on iMovie Help ...).
I understand about hi-speed import from other (non DV) formats ...
So why not just let the user hit the 'mute' button if they don't want to listen to audio on import ?
Pretty simple - rather than having this somewhat arbitrary rule imposed on iMovie users ?
The only way to monitor audio during import is to plug headphones into the camera itself.
Which means we are wearing a thing with a wire attached - making the BT headset capability of the Mac somewhat redundant.
Oh well ... one step forward, one step back.

  • Can't get audio to play

I have audio recorded, but when I go to Preview, it doesn't
play. I've also tried embedding it in a click box and it won't play
in Preview. Does anyone have a solution? Is it possible to have
more than one audio file per slide if you put them in a click box?

  • When I enter video in timeline, does not show on monitor.  when I play video, can only hear audio.

So within the past couple of days, when I load video into the timeline it does not come up on screen.  When I play video, I can only hear audio.  If I click on monitor, I get still frame of video.  Also received window saying we have detected an incompatible display driver.  Not sure why this has happened all of a sudden....

Does your Premiere Elements 10 run on a computer with a NVIDIA GeForce video card? If so, which specific NVIDIA GeForce card? If your computer is not using a NVIDIA GeForce video card, then that Announcement at the topic of the forum does not apply to you. This particular issue is specific for Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce.
If all that did apply to you, what version of the driver did you roll back to?
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
If you do not have a NVIDIA Ge Force video card, something else, and you have only one video card, then try deleting the BadDrivers.txt file. In your Windows 7 64 bit, the path to it should be
    Local Disk C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    10.0
and in the 10.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

Hi, I have this exact same problem. I haven't been using an iRig, just a cheap USB-jack cable. I managed to do this with the first cable I bought, but since it broke I've been unable to find a replacement that allows me to hear the drums while recording. DId you manage to get over this issue? If so I would really like to know how. Thanks and best wishes.

Just saw your thread, and it looked like a candidate for the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce Roll Back the Driver issue. If your computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card, then the following applies to you. You do not want to update the driver. Rather you want to roll back the driver version, probably to about May 2013. For your convenience I have done a copy/paste of the forum announcement which gives all the details and fix of the matter.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
A February 2014 overview of the situation as well as how to use the older NVIDIA GeForce drivers for the driver roll back can be found
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
This matter has been very specific to the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce card user. So, if your computer is using other than a NVIDIA GeForce card, it is likely that the message does not apply to you, and we can then explore other troubleshooting possibities.
Looking forward to your follow up. Do not hesitate to ask for clarification on anything written here.
    Thanks.

Depends on what you are doing with it. Recording applications usually have some way of monitoring what is being recorded.

FC 6 supports 29.97 & 25 IMX frame rates but a third party plug-in is required:

    This plug-in costs $100

This software is cheaper at $30 and will let you test drive it for free

There may be a free option available but I'm not aware of it.

  • How can we monitor the audio after the cleanup process before we actually record the trans

Before my upgrading of Creative Media Source 2 to Creative Media Source 5, I was able to monitor the audio after the cleanup prior to the transfering process. Assuming you mean Actions when you say "Batches", use this menu...
    1.  Click on the name of the actions set you wish to save.
    2.  Click the fly-out menu icon at the upper-right corner.
    3.  Save Actions, put them someplace on your hard drive other than in the Photoshop installation area.
