Can't mount firewire disk when logging in remotely

I've set up port forwarding on my router so that I can log in to my network remotely and grab files from my computer and various external drives. This works great, however, one disk, the only external firewire drive, doesn't show up in the list of things I can mount. Both internal ATA drives show up, as does the external USB drive, and any CDs/DVDs that happen to be in the player at the time. When I do a "get info" on the firewire drive it's permissions are set to read and write. I'm the only user set up on the computer and have admin privileges. Neither networking or privilege stuff are areas I know a ton about... what am I missing? Thanks!

Disk Utility can't mount internal disk but tells me use First Aid?

I have a Western Digital internal 500 GB hard drive that has failed. At first, Disk Utility did tell me it was damaged but still was able to mount it - giving me partial use. I also ran Disk Warrior and was able to salvage some files.
My good news is that Western Digital is replacing it, no problem. However, I have to send this one back and I want to erase the contents. But now Disk Utility cannot mount it at all and give me this cryptic message: "The Disk, WD500, could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting."
My question is, how can I run First Aid when Disk Utility cannot mount it. (I tried booting from my Install disk and running it from there.) S.M.A.R.T status says, failing. All the usual options such as erase, partition, repair are not available, though the drive shows up, in bright red.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Anyone know of a way for me to simply erase this drive before having to return it to WD.

I have tried selecting both. Neither gives me any options.
If the HD shows up in the Disk Utility App then there's a way to toast it.
Whoa! ... Now if I can just find out what a magnetron magnet is...
Don't bother because the only magnets powerful enough to scrub data from a drive platter are laboratory degaussers or those used by government agencies to wipe bits off media. That's the reason why the Disk Utility App has a '35 Zero-Pass Security Erase' option.
So you have two choices ...
Your first choice is to just send it back and don't worry about it. I doubt that WD will try to access your data unless you want them to. It's very expensive to retrieve data on a dead/dying HD. All they will probably do is verify that the HD is dead/dying & send you a replacement.
Your second choice depends upon your knowledge of Unix, if you have more than one Mac, plus if you have a Windows PC.

Hello everyone. HELP! Major problems with the ipod, 4th generation, click-wheel, non color screen. It will not turn on fully. You here the disk spin, then stop, then start spinning over and over and you see a file with ! next to it. It will restart and it does the same thing. I have tried many times. It is formated to PC and is usually used with windows. But when it is plugged in, the computer and ipod updater do not recognize it, it tries and it says "can't mount ipod". I have tried switching to disk mode, which seems to work, but then in restarts in a few seconds and goes back to the file! and the spinning. I have tried all this on the mac also, thinking if the mac recognizes it, I can just restore it and go from there. No luck. I have tried the disk utility, which does not recogize that the ipod is present either. Please help! I've searched the posts many times and nothing answers my questions. The ipod is just over a year old, so I doubt apple would replace it. Went to the store today in London and the line was hours long and you cannot make an appointment online because they are so busy! eeks.

I don't know if it is a permanent fix, I saw that someone asked an apple employee about it and he said if anything, it is a temporary fix. However, I had the same problem about 7 days ago, dropped it, and the ipod worked perfectly. Just today it was up to its old antics again, except this time with the sad icon instead of the !folder, and instead of wasting any time I dropped it once again and it now works perfectly. So maybe ipods just need to be dropped every once in a while.

Can't open AI VIs when logged in as a restricted user

I have a VI that does simultaneuos analog I/O (LabVIEW 6.1, Windows XP). This VI works fine when I am logged in as administrator, but when I try to run this VI from a restricted user account LabVIEW can't find the AI VIs (AI Config, Start, Clear and Read). All AO VIs can be found. I have changed the restricted user's permissions to the National Instruments folder to full control, as described in http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/BB393E7B361E939886256EFD007AC591 but I still can't run my VI.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

Unfortunately I can't try your solution on the computer where the problem occurred because it is used in another course for the moment and is therefore not available. But I tried to recreate the problem on another computer. I created a restricted account and when logged in on that account I opened my VI and it worked fine... (all subVI:s were found). By default, the restricted account had Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read permissions for the MAX folder. So, I then unchecked the Allow-boxes in an attempt to recreate the problem, but the VI still worked on the restricted account. Then I checked the Deny-boxes for the permissions mentioned above, but the VI still worked. Since I couldn't recreate the problem I don't know if your solution is the right one, but at least I can draw the conclusion that it is possible to run my VI from a restricted account.
But I will try your solution on the computer where the problem occurred when it is available and I will let you know whether the problem was solved or not.

Can't mount USB disk with the atribute of fix and read-only

I have a usb disk which is set as fix(non-removalbe) and read-only. I tried to connect it to Macbook version 10.4.11 ,but it failed to mount the disk. However, connecting to 10.5.X and windows XP work fine. I am wondering is it a bug specifically in 10.4.11 only ? Could I get any patch for this problem ?

Try repairing disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Mount Home Directory when logged in locally

I want an application that would ask for the users name and then mount and open their home directory. This will be used when a user is logged on locally and not via OD/AD. Can automator do this or should i stick to apple script. Right now my apple script looks like this.

usually when you see the server invalid (by the Yellow triangle on each repositories) means that your MDM server and MDM Clients have different version. Please, checks the version and be sure these are the same, or server version is more recent of the clients one.

Can't choose a user when logging in

I've bought a macbook pro today. The store had none in stock so I took the showmodel. They told me they would 'wipe' it for me. When I turned it on I got to configure all the usual stuff, timezone, admin user etc. Everything seemed to go fine. But when the login screen appeared it only had the user 'kiosk'. Not my own user. Also, it logs in without me clicking that user. I went to accounts and disabled autmatic login but to no avail. I can't remove the 'kiosk' user either. Whatever I try on the accounts page, the login screen just logs in kiosk straight away.
How can I remove this annoying behaviour? Also, is it possible to do a full clean install, i'll upgrade to 10.8 as soon as I can anyway? I don't have any discs.

Return it and let them restore it to its original condition. Then, on first boot you can set it up appropriately. If you're migrating from another machine to preserver all previous user and network settings and 3rd-party apps, then carry in a bootable clone on an ext HD or the old machine. Anything less, IMO, is unacceptable.

Can operations continue to run when logged in as another user?

I've logged in as myself and I have set an operation to run, its going to run for a while and I would like the ability of my wife to log in. When you do this the operation pauses while logged in as her.
Can it continue to run at the same time?

Try logging into your user while holding down the shift key on your keyboard, to supress any startup items that may be interfering with your program.
If that does not do it, look for a preference file in you user folder by choosing the Go menu from the Finder and selecting Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Preferences and checking for files having to do with your application. If there are any, move them to your desktop and try again.
If that does not fix it, move them back, replacing the new ones that will be built. Also, if your program uses any data files or libraries when started up, try removing those. Again, if not fixed, put them back.

404 can't find page Error when logging into Exchange 2013 OWA, after a refresh, login works

I've upgrade two of my customers to Exchange 2013.
On of them was coming from 2007, and the other was already running 2010.
Migration from both of the servers went good.
However with the customer which upgraded from 2010 to 2013 i'm experiencing strange OWA behavior:
When I login to OWA on https://owa.contoso.com/owa, and input my credentials and click sign in: I receive this error:
404
can't find page :-(

But... when I click: "Refresh the page" of just hit F5, the login proceeds, and my OWA is displayed and working fine.
This behavior only happens with my customer which was upgraded from 2010 to 2013.
The customer which i've upgraded from 2007 to 2013 doesn't experience this problem.
I've matched the IIS settings and redirect/ssl options on both servers. They are the same.
I've tried other users and i've experienced that on one user, the error message didn't appear.
When I try to delete the Exchange atributes from the user, (after exporting the mail to a PST file) and re-add the Exchange attributes, the message is gone. This isn't a solotuion however, since i've got 166 users, and about 150 of them, get the error message.
New users don't get the error.
Anybody got any clues?

From your description, I would like to verify the following thing for troubleshooting:
Please make sure that the authentication is set to Basic Authentication and Forms Authentication is disabled on OWA and ECP virtual directly in IIS. After the above settings, please restart IIS by running IISReset /noforce command.

Can not mount USB disks with Disk utulity

Today I received finally received the new Airport Extreme. I had no problems installing it in my WDS wireless net and combining it with the Airport Express.
BUT... mounting disk does not work.
I have 3 USB 2.0 Disk: 2 x Maxtor and one WD. All of them are seen by the Airport utility, but do not show up in the Disk Utilty on none of my Macs.
I realy tried everything:
- connecting them all at the same time using a USB 2.0 hub,
- connecting them one by one using an USB cable,
- reformating on my mac using Mac OS Extended (journaled) and connecting them,
- renaming the names of the disk to simple names: no space, no numbers,
- renaming the BaseStation.
No result, the onlything I see apearing in the Disk Utility Menu is the name of the BaseStation. If I click on this, a "Login" dialog box is displayed, if I try to login (all options tested) no result, and after a long time-out sometimes a message is displayed Not able to mount "drive-name.
Is there somebody who knows what to do?

After you reformatted did you by chance add any files while directly attached to your mac.
Network drives won't show in disk utility, use airport disk utility to find them and have them mounted or use the network list in your finder.

Can't find destination disk when reinstall the Mac OS

Get some problem and need to reinstall the OS, placed the installation DVD and could not finished the process - it stopped at cold not find the destination disk to install the OS. Please help

I have the same problem with a 2nd generation G5 iMac. I tried to erase and install Tiger (retail version bought from Mac Store after consultation with Mac support), failed and hung up for 6 hours until I switched the thing off and my hard drive icon no longer appears in the startup list. I can't even reach options stage on install procedure - my hard drive icon has GONE! So no utilities from the Install disk. The mistake I may have made was to try the Unix erase and Install procedure.
I have tried to get in using my mac mini as target drive but this seems not to offer a way out of the s**t! - can't find a way of reinstating a hard drive icon for the iMac in the startup folder.
Any bright ideas out there or do I need to get a new Apple formatted hard drive?

Mounted shares disappear when logged in lock

when I re-login after user lock screen, the mounted shares are not visible on my desktop, i have to connect each time when I re-login, is there a way to organise this?

Clicking on the lock icon does not immediately unlock it. A dialog box should appear, asking for Name and Password. That is where you need to enter the name and password for an admin user, to "authenticate."

Get "can't repair this disk" message when camera mounts

Hi,
I've been using this camera, an Olympus point and shoot D-590 Zoom, for years with my various Macs. Yosemite is now telling me it can't repair this disk when I mount the camera. (I mount to the desktop. I don't want iPhoto to open it. That is NOT an option I want to explore so that's off the table from the start, ok?)*
This started with Mavericks. I didn't get that message before that. Now, with Yosemite, I also get a beachball and can't dismiss it easily. I have to keep hitting the OK button and eventually it will register and I can on downloading the pics into a folder I have set up for that.
How can I get Yosemite to stop telling me this? As far as I know, Deeper and Tinker Tool don't have that as an option I can choose. I am reluctant to get into the Terminal so if there is any other "friendlier" option, I'd love to know about it.
I have reformatted the camera's disk. There is no firmware update from the camera manufacturer. I should add, OSX will open the folders on the camera's storage as if it was 10.9, opening NEW folders with each sub-folder I have to get to. That seems odd...
I don't want to format the camera's storage with OSX as that isn't recommended.
*The reason I am not going to let iPhoto open it is the last time I did that, my camera got ruined. I was unable to use it. Now, this may have been coincidence but I am not going to take another chance. I let the OS open my camcorder and that's fine. I am not going to risk my camera. Silly? Superstitious? So be it.

Well, whadya know. Since upgrading to 10.10.3, the above-mentioned phenomena doesn't happen anymore. Yay! No "can't fix disk" message anymore. No pre-10.10 folder behavior of opening new folders with each double-click so that I can drag my pics out.
It did do something weird though. As I command-E'd the volume, it created a new folder on the desktop, called it NO NAME, and may have changed the name of the camera volume to NO NAME too... I think it used to be "SD card" before... Inside that folder are DCIM and other folder with the same pics I dragged over.
I'll see if that happens again. Maybe I hit the wrong key before I hit command-E...
But yay! No more stupid Can't fix this disc messages that take 10 seconds or so to dismiss!
Seems like a side-effect of this upgrade or was this intentional? Who knows.
