Can't Mouse select files in Open dialogs

We are unable to select a file with our mouse when we are in Open dialog boxes. We click away and nothing happens. We can use the arrow keys to navigate around, it's just the mouse that has no impact.

But,,,,and,,golly,,don't know if I'm being really really stupid but by converting to DV or MOV I lose all audio from any of the clips that I'm importing...

  • Can't change all files to open with CS2 with CS3 installed

I have InDesign CS2 and CS3 installed on my macbook (10.5). CS3 is buggy to the point where its unusable, but I need it installed because once in awhile I receive files saved in that format.
I wanted to change, through any Get Info window, all Indesign files to Open With CS2 instead of CS3. Problem is, whenever I hit "apply to all files" the OS just instantly changes the program back to CS3.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Let me be a bit clearer.
When I installed CS3, it switched the "Open With" program association of all my CS2 files to CS3. This means the icons for all my CS2 files changed to CS3 icons. And when I double click on my CS2 files, they open in CS3, even if I already have CS2 open. If I have CS2 open, the system just starts opening CS3.
Worse yet, upon installing CS3, all of my CS2 files were CHANGED to CS3 files (looking under "kind" in the "info" windows.
I had thought I could just change all INDD files to asssociate with CS2, but when I go to "Get Info" on a file (CS2 or 3, doesn't matter which), and change the "Open with" to CS2, and hit "Change All", the "Open With" Just changes right back to CS3. Augh.
For now, I just use the "Open" dialogue in CS2 or drag and drop the files. Pain in the rear. So I thought I'd post here.
And though I don't want this to be a discussion of whether CS3 is buggy or not, I'll just say that my system was plagued by the CS3/Leopard NavSvcs and Hide bugs, (only a problem in Mac OS 10.5), both of which have been recognized by Apple and Adobe, as well as thoroughly blogged about by Tim Cole and MacFixit, and countless others.
My favorite is this from the InDesign 5.0.2 Readme file:
This update does not address recently identified issues running Adobe InDesign CS3 on Mac OS
X Leopard (v10.5.1). Known issues include the following:
Users are unable to hide InDesign CS3 using the cmd+h keyboard shortcut.
InDesign CS3 may unexpectedly quit when using the Place, Save, Save As or Export
commands using either the OS or Adobe dialog boxes.
Unfortunately, there are no workarounds for these known issues.
Yes, that's right. I'm one of those lucky folks who's experiencing the known bug where InDesign CS3 crashes when you try to open or save a file. I'm not a troll, I just simply can't use it! Haha.

  • Can't create temporary files to open attachments

"Can't create file RFI Detailed-With Routing Information.pdf. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder."
My co-worker receives this message when she tries to open some PDF files from one sender. The co-worker is able to open PDF attachments from all other senders except this one. Now, I have checked her folder permissions for the temp folder, as well as parent folders and the permissions allow full control everywhere I have checked. This wouldn't be so strange, except she forwards the emails to me and I open them just fine.
We have tried repairing the installation through Adobe. We have even uninstalled and re-installed the application with no change. There are no other adobe versions installed. The only thing I can find that is not typical is that she can't install security update 8.1.2.

How is she trying to open the file? Has she saved it to disk first and then selected it for opening? Can anyone else open the file? I am assuming that she is simply trying to open directly from her mail package and the first step is to save it to disk and try that. If it opens when saved to disk, then it is likely an OS issue, not an Acrobat issue.
For more information it would be helpful to know what OS, what application (assume a mail package) is in use, and how she is trying to open the file. There is just not enough information without making assumptions. However, some simple tests of not opening directly, but saving first are always good ideas to try.

  • PSE11-Can't Make New Files and Opening Old Files

I've had PSE11 for a couple of months now and it was working fine about two days ago when i last used it. But today when I opened it up it started to refuse to do anything file related. It won't let me create a new file and it won't let me open any files.
With the new files I cant even get the dialouge box to pop up to select a size of the file and name. It just runs processes for a couple of seconds and than nothing.
And with the open files I can't get it to open anything. It won't open pictures, photoshop files, etc. It just sits there like I never gave it a command.
I all ready checked to make sure the program was up to date. Which it is so I'm not sure what is causing this problem.

Hey so it magically started working again for a while on its own. I did nothing to it, it just decided to start working randomly. And now its back to not working again. I didn't mess with anything. I didn't even install anything not even a Windows update. It just started working again. And then it stopped just as quickly as it started.
Though now I can at least get the open command to pop up. But I can't get the actual photos to open or it to do anything beyond that.

  • Can't create new files nor open existing ones.

It's been a while since I last used photoshop, a similar kind of problem made me move away from the product, but the new features in CS6 are enticing enough for me to be interested in trying it again.
My problem is that, while the interface is completely usable (I can open the color picker, play with tools and preselects) trying to open a file or creating a new one does absolutely nothing.
File->New or CTRL+N will show the busy cursor for but a brief second, and then disappear, dragging a file to the interface shows me the "denied" cursor (black circle with a bar), File->Open lets me browse my disk but then when I select the image, nothing happens.
I've been scouring the forums for a solution to this and tried so many things that it's impossible for me to even try and list them all, so I'll accept any suggestion and try anything, I'll sum up what I did try in the first post (if it stays editable).
Please let me succeed in this, I'd love to go back to photoshop.

How can I test the other display theory? I didn't connect any new monitor (I do use 2) but I occasionally use stuff like remote desktop tools.
I'll try and update the display drivers (even tho I updated them recently).
P.S.: opening it on the other monitor worked. What the heck. Any way I can make it work on both monitors?
I'll be making more tests in the meanwhile.

  • When opening a pdf file on my HP laptop, MS 8.1, i can only open or print one file.  I can't close the file once opened or open anuything else unless i restart the laptop.

Help. Am not a techie, don't have a clue on fixing the issue.  I open a pdf. and when i try to open another, the original one comes up. Same for printing.  I can only open another pdf. after i reboot.

If you are not able to get Adobe Acrobat Reader to open .pdf files in the browser. Even after you check in prefs to show pdf files in the browser.
Make this modification for all versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader that show under this key.
-Note: Deleting the key and all subkeys for any older versions also seems to fix this problem. So if you see this key present,
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Originals
delete the 7.0 and all subkeys.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals
-Right click on Originals and choose NEW DWORD Value and name it bBrowserIntegration, hit enter,
double click on the new value and make sure the value is 1

  • Can Captivate 4 project files be opened in Captivate 5?

I was wondering if captivate 4 project files can be opened in captivate 5? I know captivate 2 project files cannot.
    Thanks guys,
    Kya.

Hello and welcome on the forum (see it is your first posting),
Normally there are no issues when opening CP4-files in CP5: they will be converted, including the advanced actions (if there are) and to AS3 if the CP4 was AS2 because CP5 only supports AS2. I only had some few issues with those convertions.
Beware: you will not be able to open the converted file in CP4 anymore. As always, be careful to keep the original files stored safely somewhere.

  • Can Photoshop Convert Selected File-types From a Folder Full of Files?

I have a folder with approximately 20,000 files in it. The files are a mix of eps, tif, jpg, and PSD files. I want to convert all the eps files to tifs. For now I've created a folder into which I move approximately 500 eps files at a time (that I manually select) and then run a batch action I created to convert them. This works fine but you can imagine how long this process will take (moving, converting, emptying the folder, moving 500 more files, and so on). I'd like to know if there's a way, either within an action or the batch command (or possibly a script or even some other way) that Photoshop would select only the eps files to convert. I could let it run overnight if it were possible.
I'm using Photoshop CC on a Mac running 10.6.8 with 7GB RAM.
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

I'm not sure about EPS files but the rest can be taken care of via File > Scripts > Image Processor. I'm pretty sure that EPS files can't be handled by Image Processor though.

Not sure but maybe some exotic compression? Where did you get
    that TIFFs
    and how they were prepared?

  • Can't double click files to open application Illustrator 17?

Using a trial Illustrator 17 with Mavericks OSX. Files are being saved with thumbnail versus icon. Double click converts to PDF if Ai is already open. If saved as legacy Illustrator file, icon appears and functions as expected. Also having trouble reopening from recent files pulldown. Am I missing a preference or is there something wrong with my download?

Without exact system info and otehr details nobody can know. Sounds like something with Adobe's PDF components vs. the stuff in OSX itself vs. the PDF compatibility setting in Illustrator...

  • Can't get ADE files to open on my Nook Color

I have now spent several hours googling this problem, trying every solution I've found, and still can not resolve the problem. When I try to open files on my Nook Color I get the message that the user is not authorized. I have authorized my computer via ADE but when I open ADE it never sees my Nook Color even though my computer sees it. I read the advice about deleting the ADE files on my Nook but I don't see any ADE files there. I also read Adobe's advice to authorize the Nook to the same Adobe account but I have no idea how you do that. I don't have anywhere on my Nook Color to link to an Adobe account. This has been extremely frustrating as the number one reason I chose the Nook Color was so that I could buy through independent book sellers, which I can't do if ADE isn't working.
    TIA!

Same exact problem, only I have located my ADE files on my nook and deleted them. I get this:
    9780393069204-ePub.v7.epub:
Document is licensed for a different user account
What user account might that be? This is a brand new out-of-the-box ereader and a brand new Adobe account. This error message is crap. I'm uninstalling and moving on with my life. I was much happier before ADE.

  • Can't stop PDF files from opening in Safari

I prefer pdf files to download rather than open in Safari. I had no trouble setting this up with Acrobat 5.0 and OSX 10.3. I now have AcrobatPro 8.0.0, Safari 2.0.4, and OSX 10.4.8.
How do I disable this feature?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Have a look at this MacosXHints thread. Besides, entering the suggested Terminal command, I think it's important to move the Adobe PDF plug-in out of the Internet Plug-ins folder.
Give it a try. You'll see there is a "reverse" terminal command if it doesn't work.

  • Fw doesn't recognize certain files in Open dialog box...

    Hi,
I have opened a file and changed it in Fireworks. I have applied a filter and saved it twice:
    - as a Fw PNG file (surf7_2)
    and
    - as a JPG file (surf7_1)
When I try to open them using Open command, I cannot see them....  see screenshot below:

First, check where you saved them. They are probably in a different folder.
Second, it's best practice to reserve the save function for native Fireworks documents, which are an enhanced .png format. For flattened bitmaps (including flattened .pngs), use the export function under File > Image Preview or File > Export.

  • Can the new pages files be opened elsewhere without converting them in any way?

My pages files were recovered from my laptop after it crashed with help from apple support.  Now I can't access them on any of the other systems I have access to.  It there anyway to covert them to a different format without having a special program?

Thanks. We want visitors to browse through our historical photos in any of the ways iPhoto will allow them, including slide shows, but also searching for photos by key word and viewing them along with the comments we have entered on that photo.
I was beginning to think iPhoto had no capability to limit users to certain functions.
I wonder if the use of Apple's sharing files function would help. I have read that it is possible to share files with others, and to limit their use to viewing only, but I don't know how to do this.

  • How can I disable last file re-open in Lion

After using Lion for several weeks, I find I am growing irritated over every program re-opening the last file(s) used.  It is slowing down my workflow and wasting my time while I close then open the file/web page I need.  Sometimes it opens to a file letting others see files/images/web pages I would rather they not see.  Other times it loads from a backup location not intended as the work file.   Is there any way to disable this annoying feature?
