Can't move .app files to trash

I noticed that when moving the .app file to trash it:
     1.  moves to trash, and temporarily deletes from the source location.
     2.  it next reappears in the source location.
I have discovered that if I change the extension of the file to something other than .app it appears to move and delete correctly.
I have not found any security options that would cause this nor does permissions appear to the issue.
Additional note:  The build of the system was based on a "Time Mashine" rebuild from an older system.

Thanks for the quick response. It behaves the same with all users including the admin user.  I did find a post by molz on another discussion that did fix the problem.  I was about to post that when you post came in.  In short the fix is:

I just figured it out and fixed it. There is a CleanApp Launch Daemon in the Library. delete it , restart your mac and enjoy =] Worked for me

  • "Can't move referenced files to trash"

I was clearing my rejects from a project- 1400 of them! They were all referenced. At the end, I got an error message saying Aperture can't move referenced files to trash because I don't have access to the trash on that volume.
It removed them from the library but left the images on the drive- 1400 of them! (Seems like it would have let me know BEFORE removing them from the library!)
Anyway, I isolated them on the drive by relocating the masters that remain in the library which left the files from the removed images in place. It would have been ugly if I were deleting rejects library wide instead of within a single project.
The permissions in the Get Info window were fine, and the disk is formatted properly so I verified and repaired the disk in Disk Utility. No problems were found, but this resolved the issue of the volume not having access to the trash.
Anyone else ever seen anything like this?

It doesn't sound like it's an issue with the files themselves, but rather with the trash.
I haven't seen it, but I can see how that could occur. Each volume tends to have its own Trash folder. It's hidden, typically called .Trashes and at the root of the hard drive. I have had Trash-related issues outside of Aperture in the past (likely of my own doing). The issue with problems like these it it's nigh impossible to establish cause and effect… you could do something and not notice the problem for days or even weeks, in a completely un-related way.
I doubt that "Repair Permissions" is responsible for the fix, unless the files were on your boot volume. RP has no effect outside of a boot volume.

  • How can I move mp3 files from trash to iTunes?

I accidently moved a group of MP3 files (songs) from my iTunes to the trash.  After doing a little research, I saw the suggestion of creating a folder on my desktop and dragging them from the trash to the new desktop folder.  So, I did that, and as far as I can tell, the songs are all there, sitting in the folder.  But when I tried to drag the songs from the desktop folder to iTunes, I got this message:
"Attempting to copy the disk Macintosh HD failed.  You do not have enough access privaleges for this operation."
This makes no sense to me.  This is my private computer so I should have all the privaleges I need to do anything, right? And I'm not trying to copy the "disk Macintosh HD", right?
Anyway, can you help me move the songs back into iTunes--or to the podcast so I can then move them to iTunes?  FYI, the songs have names like, "download 124.mp3" and the Kind is "mp3 Audio."  I originally got these songs via a podcast from a radio station (KCRW). I have iTunes 11.1.1.
    Thanks!

    ed2345,
Thanks!  I did that and the songs are now back in my iTunes.  Some of the songs went back to the podcast and some went to the playlist.
UNFORTUNATELY, the songs did some sort of massive duplicating so that there are now over 100 duplicates of every episode/song (the podcast now has almost 36,000 episodes/songs and the playlist now has over 24,000 episodes/songs), and iTunes is viery slow/sluggish (spinning beach ball).  Can you tell me how to eleminate all of the duplicates?

  • Can't move music files to playlists or ipod...

I've used iTunes for years, but for some reason, when I try to drag my music files to a playlist or to my iPod, the little green plus is not appearing and the playlist/iPod name does not highlight when I pass the cursor over it. I can't move any files anywhere! I can't move them from playlist to playlist or anything. I have "manually manage music" checked. I can't move old files or my new ones. It's not the iPod, because I can't move the files to playlists, either. I'm wondering if iTunes has a bug? I think I just updated it today.

I have tried reseting to factory settings by removing battery and holding down the power switch for more than 5 sec but this does nothing.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I think with so much unwanted data on the desktop and other places the whole os will crash very soon.
    Thanks, Rick

The hard drive may be dying anyway, or the directory damaged because it is so full.  You should never let the hard drive get over 85% full.
    A -36 error is a read/write error.
All you did with the power is reset the SMC.  Does nothing to reset everything to factory settings.
Do you have your original 10.4 installer discs for the MacBook?

Yes - I connected my phone to my computer / Itunes and went into the apps section, but from there I have no idea how to manage the push notifications.  I even tryied going into itunes that is installed on my phone.  I still cannot find anyplace to manage these popups.  I have also gone into settings - notifiations - and tried turning all notifications for these apps all off but that didnt work either.  Any guidance is MUCH appreciated - Im not sure where to go from here.

How can I move a file from photo stream to an event in iPhoto?

Select photo stream on the left panel in iPhoto, then drag and drop the photo from photo stream to Events on the top left under Library.  If you then want to move it to a specific event in your library, click on Events, locate the photo and drag and drop it on the event you want to add it to.

  • Can not move apps

under mavericks I can not move apps to a new directory with out it turing into an alias.
please let me know how I can fix this.

If they're built-in apps or App Store products, you shouldn't move them. An alias is what you want.

  • After firmware "upgrade" I can't move apps tp SD card on Ellipsis 8

The tablet doesn't have very much memory for apps so I put in a 64GB SD card and mioved a lot of apps there.  I recently "upgraded" the firmware/software to version 4.4.2, and now I can't move apps anymore. Not to SD card, SIM card, or anywhere. There isn't enough memory to install the apps I used to have working just fine.  How can I get apps to move to the SD card again?  Has Verizon taken a bad idea and made it worse?

make changes to grid size, sort by none, icon size
and see if this makes a difference.  We  can go from there.

  • Photoshop opens but I can't move the file.

It worked fine yesterday.  I can't move the file or make is smaller on my MacBook Pro. It's "stuck" in one location on my laptop screen.  It also runs off the bottom of the screen so I can't change the box size.
More importantly,  I also can't move it to my Wacom Cintique screen.   Some of my tool bar menus are also missing. Help?

No Audio when Airplay Mirroring from Mac to Apple TV
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4167956
    The important bits:
This solved my question by jonvid  on Aug 5, 2012 11:42 PM
I had this same problem and I think I just found a solution. Turn on your Apple TV. BEFORE turning on the mirroring, change the output audio on your computer to Apple TV in System Preferences. After that, turn on the mirroring and the sound should be coming out of your tv.
Again, if you don't change the output before mirroring it will not work.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,

I'd recommend staring over, Pondini has created an excellent guide on how to use Setup Assistant. I'd recommend begin reading Pondini Setup Assistant tips where he talks about "Second Chance." Assuming your Time Machine backup is sound the restore  should be very smooth.
