Can't move cache

I'm trying to move my FF cache to a new HDD but with no luck. I've seen a few threads on this and have tried (1) updating "about:config" and (2) adding a "user.js" file to "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles". The entry I've created is "user_pref("browser.cache.disk.parent_directory","D:\\Cache\\Administrator\\Firefox\\");" (but with single instead of double slash in the about:config attempt). Nothing works and cache stubbornly remains in its original location.
Any ideas gratefully received.

You're not using the leading and trailing quotation marks for that pref as you posted, are you??

Also - C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles - did you put the user.js file there? Or in the actual Profile folder, where it belongs?

Yes. Keep in mind that you need to back up all data, including the data on an external drive. So if you're going to use the external drive to store original data, as opposed to backups, then you really need another one to back up the first one. You also need to back up the data on your internal drive, of course. This isn't optional. You must do it, or you'll lose everything sooner or later. All disk drives fail eventually, often with no warning.

All external hard drives work with Macs. Some might come pre-formatted for use with Macs, but it only takes a few minutes to do that yourself.

RE: Redirecting Caches:
There are some tools in the Server Administration Tools (Workgroup Manager) that can accommodate automatic "Folder Redirection" of the ~/Library/Caches folder to another location at login, such as /tmp/yourname/Library/Caches/ by default.
This assumes you are running the appropriate version of WorkGroup Manager. You simply run the appropriate version of WorkGroup Manager directly on your Mac instead of on the Server:

One of the most powerful portions of the Details setup in Leopard [and later] is hidden by default. This is the preference manifest set built into the Managed Client application itself. The Managed Client application resides in /System/Library/CoreServices and contains the code used to run the entire MCX process. The compositor is also located here, along with the code to run mobile accounts, portable home directories, and much more. The MCX team built a very large preference manifest list in here that is continually being refined and revised.
The manifest is made visible by going into Details, selecting the /System/Library/ CoreServices/ManagedClient.app, and adding it to the set. The items show up as bold, gray items compared to the italicized items you already have. Some of the imports ask to replace ones you have already entered, such as Desktop. That’s okay; the values you have already entered won’t be disturbed. You will, however, be able to streamline some of your settings. Here’s a walkthrough of the manifest items offered by the Managed Client application:
Folder Redirection
This setting will help take some of the performance load off network home directory users. It is designed to force the current user’s Cache folder into /tmp on the local computer. When you must use network home accounts, this can mean a huge reduction in network traffic. More information is included in “User Accounts—MAs, PHDs, and More.”
To set this up, you open the setting to edit, select the Always domain, and add a new key. Choose Login Redirections from the pop-up menu. Now select that new subkey. Click to turn down the disclosure triangle, and add a new key to that key. This subkey will be called Redirect Action Info. When you open that key, you’ll see that the defaults are already filled in for you:

The other actions are Logout Redirection and Other Redirections. One key point here is that you cannot create a redirection to force the user’s home, or a subfolder, to an upstream or network location. These redirections take place before any mount points are available, so the redirection would fail.

Can't Move Objects, Can't Uninstall CC

I'm running Adobe CC on Mac OS X Yosemite. I've got variations on the same problem, but the main thrust is: I can't move objects.
More detailed: I booted up InDesign this morning and started working in it. All of a sudden, I couldn't move any of my objects. Can't resize them, can't drag them, nothing. So I look up the issue and this is an ongoing problem apparently. I have done the following:
• Held down Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Command before the launch screen to delete preferences (didn't work)
• Manually found the Preferences and Caches folder and renamed them (didn't work)
• Uninstalled Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, then reinstalled (didn't work)
• Restarted my computer after doing the first two (this worked for five minutes until I opened a browser window, and then the problem was back.
The next step I would've taken is uninstalling CC and all the applications, clearing the software, and reinstalling everything. Except now I'm being told I can't uninstall CC. Because it's in use. When it's not.
Look, Adobe, I like the product. But this is bulls***. I've done everything everyone on every message board has done to solve the problem, and it hasn't fixed this. I need the CC in order to maintain job performance. I also need to use the Internet at the same time. This shouldn't be hard.

How can I move one years worth of raw photo files to a different hard drive (to manage space) and preserve the develope module edits and still see them in the Library module?

The easiest situation, is where this year's worth of images is grouped physically inside one parent folder (something many people build in from the start, in any case).
If there is a parent folder on disk, but you are not currently seeing that inside LR's Folders panel, you can make this visible to LR by right-clicking on one of the folders which live immediately inside that, and selecting "show parent folder". This gives you a single "handle" by which to manipulate the whole grouping.
Then it is just a matter of moving this parent folder. It's usually as simple as dragging it from one place to another inside LR's Folders panel, however this is a little more difficult when it's a question of another drive which does not yet appear there.
So an alternative method will likely prove more straightforward: physically move the whole year folder into the other drive using your operating system's Explorer/Finder. The folder (and subfolders, and all the contained images) will change with ? icons inside LR, and it all goes "offline". This is because LR's records of where everything is, are known not to currently work (the former location is now not available). But all the edits, thumbnails, keywords, collections etc are still in place because these things are still remembered in the Catalog - and the fullsize previews are still cached also.
Then right-click on the parent folder in LR's Folders (the top folder which shows a "?") and select Update Folder Location. Then browse to the other disk and identify where this folder is now to be found. LR updates all its records and the whole grouping carries on just as before, only using a new storage location for each image concerned.

You don't move, you reinstall. Change the install location in the CC settings. That aside it's probably a pointless exercise. Whatever issues you have certainly don't depend on disk space because in both programs usage of swap files and storage locations for catalogs and caches can be configured, so where they are installed is irrelevant in that regard.

You're talking about an episode you've downloaded in someone else's podcast, and moving it to another user account on your Mac? You could simply subscribe to the podcast in the other account and download it again, but if you want to save the download time just drag the episode(s) to the Desktop, then place them in the Users/shared folder, then open the other user account and drag them from there to iTunes.
If this isn't what you are trying to do please specify exactly what it is.

I'm running Final Cut Express 2. My video project is 95% done and I've run out of space on my 500g internal hard drive. How can I (1) move the complete FCE program and video to my unused 250g internal hard drive and operate it from there and (2) how do I then purge all the FCE info from the 500g drive without losing anything from the 250 drive?
Also, is it possible to change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 when the project is finished? If so, how? I now know this all should have been done before I started. Thanks for the help.

1. You can't move the application. It must remain on the system drive. Move your capture scratch folder to the external FireWire drive and use the reconnect function in the project.
