Can't move contacts from 9000 to 9800

My old BB 9000, or more likely, DM 6.0 is holding my contacts on my old phone hostage!
I got my 9800 yesterday and tried to run through the "Switch device" wizard. All looks good, no errors, everything working... then I open Contacts and it is empty. Look at my old device, everything is still there. Try syncing over and over, no luck. Try backing up "All contacts" on 9000 then restoring just that to 9800, doesn't work.
I think the problem is that on the 9000, I see three "contact lists" - two named Desktop and one with my gmail address. It actually seems like the ones associated with the gmail address are moving okay - except that only one contact is associated with that account! The rest seem to be randomly split between the two other Desktop entries.
I've tried everything I can think of to manually backup/retrieve the contacts out of the old phone, but no matter how I try to sync, either I only get addresses associated with the gmail account or when I restore what appears to be a "complete" backup, all the contacts disappear.
A side note, I have no desire/need to keep these contacts separate so if there is a way to merge them together to magically solve the problem I'll gladly do it - unfortunately KB entries that talk about this all reference ludicrously old versions of software, so I'm just not sure how to do it with DM6 and the 9800.
This is ridiculously frustrating. Swapping devices has been such a breeze and a major plus for me in the past, who would have thought that RIM would make it more difficult/worse?
Let me know if I can provide any more info!

Okay, 3 days it took me to fix this, pretty poor experience in general RIM - I hope someone is watching. Here was the workaround I found, based on the process presented here: http://www.berryreview.com/2010/06/03/faq-duplicate-desktop-or-unknown-contact-list-databases-found-...
Initial problem - Multiple "Desktop" address book entries on my old phone, which apparently caused issues when using the "Switch Device" wizard in DM6.
Resolution:
1) From original device, take a backup and select only the "Address Book - All" contacts.
2) Download ABC Amber Blackberry Editor (Why do I need a 3rd party tool to use my new phone!?) as mentioned in the article.
3) Open the .ipd file that contains the Address Book - All entries, do a Save As and put these in a new file - they are now simply part of the primary Address Book.
4) This is where I deviate from the article above - restoring this backup to my new phone still wouldn't work, but restoring it to my OLD phone did. So that's what I did.
5) I then re-activated my old phone on BES and used wireless sync to sync the address book to the server.
6) Back to the new phone, activate it on BES and turn on wireless sync and voila, I have my addresses on my new phone... FINALLY.
The obvious answer here is "Well if you'd had wireless sync working properly in the first place this probably would have been avoided" which is entirely true. However, as this is a personal device that I happen to use at work for e-mail only, the device itself has always been the source of my address information and syncing it to my work account has been low on my priority list. I figured that having DM configured to do weekly backups (which still happen every time I plug in my phone, no matter whether a week has passed or not - yet another issue with crappy DM6) would be enough of a protection for my information.
Hopefully someone finds this info useful and doesn't have to suffer through 3 days of hair pulling like I did.

In Outlook export the contacts as vCard files and then it just a matter of opening Address book and either importing them or you can drag them into the app.
    It's a pretty simple process.

  • How can i move contacts from other accounts (eg: gmail, hotmail etc) to icloud account.

    Hi All,
I have setup icloud in my Iphone 6 running 8.1.2. and it is logged in by enabling Contacts in icloud settings. My contact list contains 1718 Contacts. I manually backed up my data into icloud including my contacts without Passbook & Documents data. But when i logged into iCloud.com to see the contacts it is not there.
I also find when i checked only the Icloud contacts "there are no contacts showing in my contact list". I think this is the reason why there is no contacts in icloud web too. Then how can i move contacts from other accounts (eg: gmail, hotmail etc) to icloud.

I assume you're using GMail as your primary e-mail account?  Try this.  This is how I am setup.  Not only will it move all your contacts to your phone but any changes made in GMail or on the iPhone will be sync'd with the server.

Note... I think this will delete your existing contacts from your device.  You will want to use iTunes to back them up and get them imported into GMail before you sync your device wtih GMail.

  • Can Airdrop move Contacts from iMac to MacBook Air?

Can Airdrop move Contacts from iMac to MacBook Air?

Yes and no. AirDrop is used to send a file from one computer to another. A Contact isn't a file so AirDrop isn't the best way to move contacts from one computer to another. If you own both an iMac and MBA and want to keep the two computers synced, the easiest way is to create an iCloud account on both computers. Any calendar event, to do, contact, or note you create on one will sync to the other. If you just bought a MBA and want to move data to it from your iMac you should use Apple's migration assistant. Personally I think the easiest way to migrate is to perform a backup of the old computer to a USB external drive using TimeMachine and then connect the TimeMachine to the new computer and use Migration Assistant.
But can you exchange contacts using AirDrop? Yes. Select the contact(s) you want to transfer, export them as vcards to a temporary folder. Then AirDrop the folder to your MBA. Now run Contacts and then drag the vcards onto the Contacts program icon in the Dock.

HOW CAN I MOVE A CONTACT FROM ONE GROUP TO ANOTHER GROUP?

You usually make contact groups via a computer (Mac or PC). If you use a mac and sync. via iCloud, you can go into Contacs.app and organize your contacts as you wish. Then (if) you sync with iCloud the groups you've changed or created will be displayed on your iPhone and (or) iPad.

  • Can't move contacts from iPhone to new MacBook Pro

    Hi,
my father-in-law has an iPhone 3G which he's used with his PC without a problem. I finally convinced him to buy a MacBook Pro (which he did today) and we've been unable to move the contacts from the iPhone to the laptop. The phone is connected to iTunes and all looks normal but when we select "contacts" to be synced to the laptop and then click apply, nothing happens. Tried to sync it, the phone and iTunes say "syncing" but the contacts are not showing up in the laptop's address book - very embarassing. I'm assuming it's something I'm doing wrong but I can't for the life of me find an answer.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Ole

Before you connect your phone to the mac, you should make sure that auto sync when a phone or ipod is connected is NOT CHECKED in preferences for itunes.
Once you've authorized the account, you should then transfer your purchased apps & music to itunes from your phone.
You do that by going up to file, select transfer purchases made on this ipod to this computer. All of your purchased apps & music will be transferred, music you ripped on your own or photos will not be, you'll have to restore those from a backup.
If you already have contacts in your address book, you should have received the merge prompt when you synced. Are you sure in itunes you have the contact tab checked?

  • How can I move contacts from iCloud to my iPhone

I keep my contacts on my phone separate from on my Macbook.   Somehow (maybe after a factory reset) all my phone contacts are now in iCloud.
Is there an easy way to move my contacts from iCloud on my phone and also back to my Mac on my computer?  or do I have to do it manually?
    Thanks

I just went to icloud-contacts- OFF.  It asks if I want to keep my contacts on the phone and I said yes.
Thanks so much.  Saved me a ton of time.
One thing I noticed though is for my name, it used to have an image of a person.  That is gone now on my phone but on my computer.  Is that only in iCloud?

  • Can I move contacts from my computer to my phone?

I just got a new MacBook Pro and created a new iTunes and iCloud account so I no longer have to share with my family. When I did that I lost all my contacts on my iPhone, but they are all in the contact app on my MacBook. Is there any way that I can move those contacts back on to my phone, or do I have to do it all by hand?

    Hello Jessica,
What I would recommend is signing into the System Preferences on the Mac, as well as in Settings>iCloud on the iPhone, and turning on Contacts. That should add the contacts to the iCloud and sync them down to the phone.
Set up iCloud on all your devices. The rest is automatic.

Just to make sure that your contacts info is safe, I recommend archiving the contacts in Address Book, or Contacts depending on your version of Mac OS.

You can also use iTunes to sync the contacts over.

I can't move photos from iPhoto to my secondary hard drive or to a burn folder.  I have never had a problem with this before.  This is something new.   They will not drop into either folder.  Nothing happens.
I checked my secondary harddrive and there is plenty of memory.
I emptied my burn folder but the photos still will not drop into it.
I created a new burn folder, no luck with this either.
230 photos is the maximum size of the events I am trying to move from iPhoto to save elsewhere.
I have shut down and restarted my computer.   No change. The photos still will not drop out of iPhoto.
My Mac Computer Storage shows that I have 62.2GB free out of 249.2GB (movies, photos and contacts taking up the most space)
My Lacie External Harddrive (2TB capacity) shows that I have 1.79TB available.  It shows that 207,729,520,640 bytes (207.73 GB on disk) are used.
I have never had this problem before.  It is usually very easy to move my photos from iPhoto.
I am not a computer expert (I work in surgery so don't have a need for lots of computer knowledge) so please explain in simple terms.
Thank you so much for any help you can provide.
    I really appreciate it.

YES Terence!  Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop.   But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now.   Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore?   I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs.  I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly.  I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?!  I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.
Thank you so much for your help.   I really, really appreciate it.

How can I import contacts from a csv file to "iCloud Contacts"?

The only way I know of to import cells from a csv file is by creating a new file.  But then you can select the desired cells and copy them to the other file.  I just did it to be sure it works.
    1. Create the new spreadsheet file via the upload command.
    2. Select the cells (table) that you want to move to the other file and press command+C (copy).
    3. Close the new file and open the existing file.
    4. Select the top/right cell of the area to receive the copied "table" and press commant+V (paste).
I hope this is what you're trying to do!

Perhaps the fastest and simplest way would be to just take both devices to the nearest AT&T corp. store and get them to do it.  Then you can sync the iPhone with Contacts on your Mac (or outlook on your PC) or with iCloud to back them up for safekeeping.
