Can't move documents in folders

Ok, so I am having trouble dragging the folders and documents into other folders. What I am doing is clicking and holding the item and dragging it over to the folder. Am I leaving out a step?
Please help me

Hard to help when you haven't said what version of Pages or where you are trying to do this.
You usually manage files in Finder, not Pages.

  • Can't move document from one folder to another

In the previous incarnation of Pages, right when it first developed Folders (a long overdue development), I was able to easily move a document from one folder to another on my MacBook, as well as my iPad.
Now, whenever I grab a document and try to drag and drop it into a new folder to move it, it won't let.
Did Apple actually remove this functionality from Pages?

Didn't have the Yosemite MBA powered up, so verified this on Mavericks with Pages v5.2.2. Since Apple has essentially frozen the Pages v5 codebase, figured this would also work on Yosemite.
Any application (e.g. TextEdit) that takes advantage of this titlebar feature can move documents in this manner.
In the Finder, you can move a document from one location to another by depressing the command key while dragging the file.
In Pages v5.2.2, with the document chooser open, I can use the preceding sentence move technique to move a file from an open folder into the Pages document chooser and it will automatically switch the Pages document chooser to inside that external folder — without launching the document. But, the command+drag feature does not work to move a document visible in the Pages v5.2.2 document chooser to another Finder location, or even into a folder visible within the document chooser.

  • How can I move documents from my iPad to the cloud?

I am trying to move documents into the cloud from my iPad. Every time I select the upload icon, only my photos show up. How do I find my documents?

    squirrels,
To save a single PDF document on iPad to Acrobat.com (i.e. one document at a time)
Open a PDF document in Adobe Reader for iOS.
Tap anywhere in the document to display the toolbar.
Tap this icon in the toolbar.
    Select "Save to Acrobat.com".
If prompted, sign in with your Adobe ID.
If you want to transfer a lot of PDF documents on your iPad to any cloud storage service, you can transfer them to your Windows/Mac desktop computer using iTunes first.
How to transfer PDF documents from your iPad/iPhone to your computer
and upload them to the cloud storage service of your choice via a web browser.
    Does it answer your question?
Please let us know if you still have a problem with uploading files.

  • Macbook Air OSX 10.5.6 can't move docs or folders on desktop

Cannot move docs or folders on desktop.  Cannot move items from trash to desktop.

I have the same problem. Certain emails will not load, usually those with attachements. Simple emails will move to Mailboxes and load - but those with attachments will not.
This goes on forever - tried repairing permissions many times. Installed mountain lion and still the same problem.

  • Can't move files into folders more than one time.

I'm having a strange problem.  If I try and drag a file into a folder then it will allow me to do that, but only once.  If I try to drag another file into the same folder then it is locked.  I can drag it into a different folder, but the same thing happens, I can move a file into the new folder but not a 2nd file, but it is locked.  I have to restart to "unlock" these folders, but the same things happens over and over again.  I can move a single file into a folder, but after that it locks up and I have to restart.
Any ideas why this is happening?  It only happens in bridge, I'm able to move files freely in Finder.
    Thanks!

I can't find a permission setting that would only allow a single file to be moved to a folder
Don't know if you already tried but use a check and repair permissions on your Mac using either Apple Disk Utility (applications / utilities) or a third party like Cocktail.
If still the same happens restart bridge holding down option key and choose reset preferences.
When the problem still exist please provide more details about OS and Bridge versions as well as computer specs.

  • Can't move messages between folders

When trying to drag a message into a Public Folder setup for Spam, I receive the following error:
"The IMAP command “UID COPY” (to Public Folders/GFI AntiSpam Folders/This is spam email) failed for the mailbox “INBOX” with server error: There is no replica for that mailbox on this server.."
This is an Exchange 2003 public folder. I've created the account in Mail as an Exchange account (same settings as Tiger - in which this operation was successful).
I can move messages around fine between other folders in the account, just not into any Public Folders.
    Anyone got any suggestions?

    No, not yet.
I'm going to give support a call tomorrow - if this doesn't get resolved I'm going back to Tiger.

  • Can't move email into folders

I archive my sent emails into dedicated folders in one year increments. That is, I have a dedicated folder for email I sent in 2011, another one for 2010 and so on. This week I tried to move some sent emails into a folder dedicated to 2009 and prior. Every time I try to do this, I get a message that the emails can't be moved; regardless of whether I try to move 100 at a time or 10 at a time.
I'd like to export these older sent emails into an Mbox (they're taking up a LOT of space).Any ideas? Thanks!

  • I can't move files or folders or delete files without authentication. Also, it doesn't appear that I can change permissions?

I can't seem to move or delete files or folders on my MacBook Air mountain lion system. It doesn't appear that changing permissions works either? Any ideas?

    Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Can't move photos or folders inside Lightroom

Dragging photos or folders doesn't work properly. I've tried dragging the image and the border of photos but neither works. Occasionally, I can move photos, but more than 50% of the time it doesn't. I've been having this trouble since using Lightroom a couple of years ago, but now it fails more than it works. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I think the main reason we photographers try to move the pictures by clicking on the frames is that we are trained to avoid touching the picture itself not to leave any fingerprints.
    <<
You are right there! Intuitively I wasn't clicking over the image because from the first time I started using a camera my father drilled into me: Don't touch the negative except on the edges. To this day I cringe at people touching their monitors because of the finger prints they leave behind.

  • Trash misbehaving.  Can't move files or folders to trash without triggering "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this."

Help!  I suddenly find that I cannot move files to trash without triggering a Finder dialogue box that asks me to type in a password to continue.  When I comply, files and folders that have been moved to trash simply disappear from the desktop!  Nothing appears in the trashcan.  I'm using Lion 10.7.5 and have never noticed this behavior until today.  What's happening here?

Try recreating the Trash file, because this is a problem related to permissions. Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    sudo rm -ri ~/.Trash

  • TS3276 Mac Mail 6.2 on OSX 10.8.2 - can't move mail into folders

When I try to move email from one folder to another I get the error message: "The message (subject name) could not be moved to the mailbox (mailbox name). An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox (mailbox name)" and then I can't delete them, move them, change anything about them, they just stay there in that folder??

I have the same problem. Certain emails will not load, usually those with attachements. Simple emails will move to Mailboxes and load - but those with attachments will not.

  • Can't move pictures between folders in a library

For some reason I cannot drag-move pictures selected in the filmstrip or in the grid view to another folder in the library folder tree.Clicking on a picture in the filmstrip and dragging to another folder does not produce the familiar hand associated with moving files.
This just started happening. It may be tied to inadvertent setting of read-only status in the underlying hard-disk folders. I was able briefly to recover the ability to move files by un-setting the folders's read-only status via windows properties. After the first time this did not work again, as if something was actively setting read-only. I don't know that this is the cause, it just seemed to track for a moment (untill it didn't.. )
Is there a LR3 setting that would lock files as read-only, or otherwise disable the ability to organize pictures using drag and drop?
    Thanks in advance,
    WheatonB

    Thanks for posting back, Wheaton.

  • Can't Move Music to folders in iTunes

My sister recently updated her iTunes 10. Now she says she can't drag songs over to newly created playlists and that she has the PING conversation bubbles icon next to every song. I can't recreate this problem but does anyone know what she's talking about and how to fix it.

    Create a folder.
    Create a playlist.
Drag the desired songs to the playlist.
Drag the playlist to the folder.

If third-party software called "Air Display" or "AirParrot" is installed, remove it according to the developer's instructions, then restart the computer. Back up all data before making any changes.
