Can't move items in dock -tried several solutions

My problem: I move a dock item to where I want it to be, a moment later the dock moves it down to the end of the dock.
I've searched the forums and tried the following solutions to no avail:
-Shift dragging items in the dock.
-Dragging dock items along the bottom of the dock as I move them.
-Deleting dock preferences -plist file
-Deleting dock database -db file
-Resetting Sync preferences
-Unchecking dock from sync preferences
I'd rather not do a scorched earth re-install does anyone have any solutions to propose?

Thats the problem I bought it from a very large thrift store. i went back asked the person where I bought the computer he said we can not give you the password. I thought buying it there was a good idea because not only was it a nice deal but it was like I was maknig a donation. I know that i messed up because i do not have the installation disk. I bought it without thinking. Until recently I was still using an old G4 9.0 os. I guess you can say I have been out of the loop for a while.

Firefox just sits on the default search page and attempts to connect to websites by typing URLs, or by clicking on the links on the default search page don't work.

You could try the following:
* Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
* Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.

How can I move items from my Nano to my computer?

I hate the new iTunes. It used to show what my iPod Nano Gen 6 had in the library and I could easily move items in and out, but now all I can do is add items to the iPod, but not remove.

Can't move items in timeline PPCC

When I attempt to move audio clips in my timeline, I'm finding that I'm not allowed to. For example, audio 1 contains an audio clip. Its placed in the middle of the timeline and I'm trying to sync it up to the video. The timeline will not allow me to move this item unless I zoom all the way out. Sometimes I have to try and drag it to create a new track before I can move it. Half the time this doesn't work either. Now, this is happening on all of my sequences and I have about 30 to do.

Can only move items in 1/4 inch steps??

Hi folks - first off just want to share the fact that Reports Builder can sometimes be one of the most annoying pieces of software I've ever used. :o)
With that in mind.. I'm trying to edit an existing report, just need to swap some fields round, however when I pick up and drag the fields around (confine & flex both off), the items only move in quarter-inch chunks, ie. I can't accurately reposition the items.
If I create a new dummy report, draw a box on it and try moving it round, it's fine.
There's obviously a property somewhere in the problem report that I'm missing, I'm sure it's something very simple, I do recall in the back of my mind coming across this before a few years back but it's late in the day now and I honestly can't remember what it is.
Does anyone have any ideas???

Can't move items from one box to another

I have set up a separate mailbox for a certain list with some rules to sort new mail to this box. However, there are from the past a number of incoming items in my Inbox which are not sorted to this new box and I want to move them manually. Usually I can just select the items and drag them to the desired mailbox, but in this case I have selected the items and when I drag them to the new mailbox they just spring back. In other words they can't be moved. What can be happening? It worked before and doesn't work now. Help?

I solved my own problem. Sorry I can't take it down. I did a dumb thing and got confused about which box was in the foreground at the time. Duh! Oh well...thanx anyway.

Can't rearrange items in dock

This seems not to be possible in Mountain Lion. Has anyone found a solution?

In case it's useful to someone else, I had this problem and found no solution that worked for me here or on other forums. I found that with the dock set on the smallest size and magnification enabled I could not move or rearrange the icons in the dock. By increasing the size of the dock I can arrange the icons as desired and then reduce the size of the dock and continue to work as normal.
This would be a good bug for Apple to fix...running 10.8.2 2.3gHz Core i7 15" mbp.

Can't Move Items to iCloud Calendar

I'm running Office 2013, and today I started receiving errors when I'd try to drag an item from a different calendar in Outlook to my iCloud calendar. I've done this before with several hundred items (large family, I get in make sure everyone has what they need on their calendar). So, today the error I received was
"Cannot copy the items. Failed to INSERT Message in Z1Cache: near "#IND": syntax error. SQL INSERT INTO IPM.Appointment" and then a ton of numbers.
At first I just disconnected my account from iCloud, restarted the computer, restarted Outlook clean, then reconnected my iCloud account. That didn't help, so I uninstalled iCloud all together, reboot, opened Outlook, closed Outlook, cleaned my Apple folders in AppData, reboot, then downloaded a new copy of iCloud and installed it. Lo and behold the I got the error again.
Any ideas what I can do to get rid of this?

HT4847 How can I move items from iCloud to my PC?

I keep on getting messages that my iCloud storage is full. So I wanted to log into my iCloud and move files out of it and onto my harddrive. I can't find a way to do that. So far I manually move my information from my phone to my PC to clear up iCloud backup space. But this seems stupid - what is the point of iCloud if I can't access it?

I just went to icloud-contacts- OFF. It asks if I want to keep my contacts on the phone and I said yes.

One thing I noticed though is for my name, it used to have an image of a person. That is gone now on my phone but on my computer. Is that only in iCloud?

Can't move items in Indesign with Mouse anymore

Regarding Indesign CS5.5 I have the problem I have seen posted about suddenly not being able to move selections/objects/text boxes/pictures or even slide pictures from Bridge to pasteboard with the mouse. I have already reset preferences with key stroke reboot, and it did not help. Running Windows 7 but I cannot find the file to manually trash or rename as my data tree does not match your instructions. Said I do not have admin rights, but I do. I had a Java upgrade this morning could that be it?

I have the same problem with my inDesign at work. I am using a mac. I already reset the preferences (many times), I did restart my computer also several times.
Everytime after the restart of the computer (and before resetting the preferences) it worked for some minutes. But then again it suddenly stopped while working in an InDesign file (I tested different files).
At the end I uninstalled InDesign and installed it again. Directly after the new install it doesn't work.
So I have no idea anymore what to do now. I could restart my computer and work for 10 minutes and restart it again, but that needs way too much time.
any idea?

Can't connect to db - tried several solutions in forum

I have researched this on the forums, and can't seem to find a solution that matches my problem..
My VM got messed up due to memory issues and crashed.. BSOD for DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_LOR_EQUAL.. So I rebooted.. started my WLS_FORMS and WLS_REPORTS like normal.
Then while trying to connect to my database via forms I got this error:
ORA-12505, TNS: listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor.
So I researched on this site.. and although nothing changed in my TNSNAMEs or Listener.ora files and I could connect just fine before the system crash and reboot.. I added the SID_LIST_LISTENER declaration.
Retried to connect via forms and now I am getting this error:
ORACLE not available. ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
So.. after more research I did this:

This problem has zero to do with your listener. Any time you spend chasing your listener is time spent not getting the problem solved.
"Work the error"
the error is "ORA-12557: TNS:protocol adapter not loadable", occurring when you try to connect with sqlplus. I don't know if it is occurring when sqlplus first starts, or when it tries to establish the connection. You could de-couple the two by
c:> sqlplus /nolog
sql> conn / as sysdbaBeyond that, "work the error" ---- start by googling the error message.
Any ideas on what to try next?

Can't move items to the trash, change permissions?

I was copying some files to a USB jump drive while I reformatted my girlfriends PC including her 'Favorites' and her personal folder. Now these are both locked on my drive and I cannot unlock them in the 'Get Info' so I can't being them to the trash. Is ther anyway to unlock these or change permissions. I tried playing with the 'chown' unix command but am not sure quite how to do it. Any help? Thanks

Are the files still on the USB drive? If there is nothing else on it that you need the simplest solution is to reformat it. Otherwise you'll have to hook it up to a Windows machine and follow the instructions provided by Apophis.
