Can't move project for another computer use

hello,
I've read everything here about moving projects to external HD, to then move them to my mac pro. It just doesn't work, and it's first in my long mac life that I am that frustrated!
I did a couple of video editing on my macbook.
Insert picture in picture, text, etc.
All movies have been used from iPhoto. I didnt import any video.
Now I wanna work on my mac pro, and finish the edit.
I hooked up an external HD, command-drag the project to the external HD within iMovie:
1) 1 time out of 10, the dialog box asking if i wanna copy the project or copy project+events, will come up, all the other time, NOTHING.
2) Then i go on the external HD, select the project, choose consolidate, copy plan (e.g.= 1Go), and nothing happens!
3) if i hook up the external HD on my mac pro, the video will play, but then I will have all my plan with the yellow warning square, telling source is missing.
I've tried everything, I cannot work on my project on my macpro, have to stick on the macbook to finish them! Unbelievable!
(repair permission, reboot, tried with my girlfriend macbook and imovie, same, what am I doing wrong???)

Same here. I don't have a solution, but I understand exactly your problem. This is what I did.
Imported movies into iPhoto from stills camera.
Opened iMovie, new project bla bla, dragged from event library (iphoto videos).
Made/edited movie etc.
All gone well. Exported to iTunes/iDVD etc no problem.
Now, I don't need to keep all the original video clips in iPhoto so can I delete them?
Yeah sure, I'll just drag the iMovie project to my ext HD as per the iMovie help files.(in iMovie)
Opened project that is now on ext HD.
File/Consolidate/Copy clips & Move events.
But.... it doesn't. The 'Copy clips' box even says '2.2gb' which is the right amount for the movie clips. But they never go to the iMovie project file on my ext HD.???

I know there must be a thread/post like this one before, but I need a quick answer for now. That is why I make a new one instead of search for the old one. Sorry :/
I'm planning to go overseas, and still work on my project. But the thing is that I will use my personal computer. Not my company computer. I was just wondering will there be any problem if I move from computer A to computer B?
- I will package my project in computer A, and will open it again in computer B. Will there be any problem? No. Right? Because I package all the fonts that are in the document/project. Correct?
AND
- The computer A is a Windows, WILL THERE BE ANY PROBLEM IF I start/continue the project/document on Apple/Mac ???
- What would be the problems? (fonts, links) ???
- If I package my current project/document. Is it guaranteed safe? I can move it to anywhere that I want? (windows to windows, not windows to apple)
I hope I don't get too complicated.

I found couple solution in the forum:
- install hotfix from microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956514
- install arial narrow version 2.37
- delete AdobeFnt##.lst <--- I can't find it on my drive. What I found was AdobeFnt_OCFontslst & AdobeFnt_CMaps.lst should I delete those?
first, i will try to install the hotfix. hopefully it'l work.

So, I tried to download and install the hotfix, it says "There are no products affected by this package installed on the system."
I do not have Microsoft Office, I only have Microsoft Word. Is that the reason why???
So, now not really sure what to do. Probably try to download Arial Narrow 2.37? I don't even know if I can download them..

Audio problems and can't open project to another computer.

I'd like some help with moving a project from my G4 powerbook (10.4.3 1Gb RAM) to my G5 iMac (10.4.4 1.5Gb RAM) both with ilfe 06 installed. I copied the project file across and it won't start up on my iMac. The reason I'm trying to move the project over is that the audio quality on the entire (powerbook) project is absolutely u.s. (created on my brand new powerbook with factory settings intact). I have already used iMovie on my iMac with the same camera and it worked just fine and was kinda hoping that 'porting it over might cure the problem, although I'm not at all sure it will. I think the fault is probably embedded in the original. (incidentally, I CAN open the moved project when I connect my powerbook to my iMac)
Audio problem:
I noticed, while importing the clips, that my powerbook started sporadically cutting out the audio (unusual I thought!) but I was under a bit of pressure to complete and thought it was just a temporary glitch.
I'd appreciate some help with that also, if anyone has a suggestion.
Anyway, as I said, the project simply won't open on my iMac (I've checked permissions they seem OK) iMovie starts up when I click the project, but stalls until I click iMovie's icon in the dock, where upon the previous project I worked on loads up fine.
Most frustration overall, I thought if I had 2 machines I would have ultimate flexibility - It's not woking out like that at all.
I'm apprehensive about upgrading my powerbook to 10.4.4 at the moment - frightened I'll loose the whole thing!!

Can I move photos from one computer to another using Vault? I use an external hard drive as a vault for my Imac and I want to import photos to my Macbook pro. I have aperture 3 on both units. Can I just plug the ext. drive into the laptop and import from the vault?

You can't import from the vault but you can restore that vault onto the MBP. This will restore the complete library that is contained in the vault.

I normally record on my drummers' macbook pro. However, I wanted to make some extra adjustment of our work on my own computer as well. I researched and I found some solutions saying that "save as Archive Project" then transfer. But looks like on the new Garageband 10.0.2, there is no option called "Enable Archive Project." So is there anyway I can open the project on my computer. I tried to just copy it and open it but it says "file cannot be opened"

How did you transfer the project to your computer?
You need to copy the project file (.band) and transfer it on a thumbs drive or similar, then copy it from that drive to your computer.
You cannot open a GarageBand project on a DVD or CD, the device needs to be writable and formatted for Mac as MacOS Extended (Journaled).
Set the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag for the thumbs drive you are using to copy the project. You can do that from the "Permissions" brick in the "Get Info" panel for the drive, if you select it inn the Finder and use "File > Get Info".
And, last but not least, are you having exactly the same versions of GarageBand on both macs?
Alternately, if you are using the same AppleID on both macs, save your project to iCloud on the first Mac, and download it from iCloud on the second Mac.
To save to iCloud:
Make sure, Documents and Data is enabled in System Preferences > iCloud.
File > Save as
Select iCloud in the File Chooser
To download from iCloud on your mac at home, use File > iCloud > Open iCloud Song.

You know, this is just a thought. I'm not sure the differences between the iq526 and iq770, but as I was looking around I found this article. I don't know if it'll help, but you might want to take a look. Evidently someone figured out how to use the HP touchsmart as an external monitor for his Dell laptop.

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac. You should be able to set a password for it. Save it. Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer, I suppose, back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity. As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro

don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine and go for it. You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups of your stuff.

I am planning on locating both the catalog and photos in the same shared folder, accessible on a home network with two computers. Only one person at a time will be using it, so we should both see the same catalog structure. I've already given general tags to the photos, but my wife wants to add more detailed sub groups and tags. After reading the license agreement with Adobe, it looks like I can put the same PSE8 on both home computers, so I think the catalog sharing should work. I'll give it a try to see.

I found this thread via a search, I have a new iphone 5 (also i am completely new to iphone, having been the last few years on android) and i have spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to add a song to a playlist.
You see i sit a work and listen to dozens of tunes, and i want to add a paticular song to a particular play list, and low and behold I can't, excuse my special characters but "What the f#%k itunes/apple??? - how can this be? Such a commonly needed function and for itunes to be the number music player in the world not to have this feature is ludicrus.
I am lucky that i only have about 500 songs on my iphone thus far, i feel sorry for stephanW with 4000+ !!

How to avoid error 49 when preparing an i movie project for publishing

I have problems prepraring an i movie project for publishing. Each time I get as reply -- error 49. Apparantly other persons using version 10.7 have the same problem, with short project there is no problem but with project of 7 minutes or more, I always get the same reply.
On one of the support groups I found an aswer --- enable the mobile back up -- but I have no idea how to do this. Can someone explain to me how to do this or maybe, it ther another solution ?
I spend a lot of timing preparing several movies and raly would like to burn them on an i dvd.

Well, i tried to implement the solution "Google Suggest" in my APEX 3.2 application, but i´m having now an "HTTP 404 error" when i select an iten in the list buided by "google suggest".

The MacBook Pro must be on in order to display video and if it's on it'll either be in Target Disk Mode or booting to it's own OS (be it Windows, OS X, etc.) The new iMacs support this feature with a "Target Display Mode," but this feature is not available on the MacBook Pro. +(at this time)+

I re-installed Windows - Itunes says my iPod is for another computer

So I re-installed Windows XP Pro on my computer and I just installed iTunes. I also updated my iPod. I have a 4GB Ipod Nano 2nd Gen. Itunes tells me that my iPod is for another computer, obviously since I re-intalled windows. How do I make it native to this copy of Windows vs my old one? Even tho they're the same copy..

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
