Can't move/select diagonal guides when zoomed in 600%

Hi there, I'm working on a few objects I have to divide using diagonal guides. However, when I try to select one of them above 600% zoom, I'm not able to activate them using the selection tool or the direct selection tool. I can select them using the layers panel but as soon as I zoom in above 600% and try to move them with the selection tools they get deselected. How can I fix this? Thanks!

I have created a text box with 4 columns, I want the first column to be wader than the other 3.
I have unchecked 'Lock Column Guides' (and double checked I have done this correctly!)
If I use either selection tool to try and drag the colun guides it just picks up and moves my entire text box.

You can't have a multi-column text frame with variable width columns. Unchecking "Lock Column Guides" will allow you to reposition the COLUMN GUIDES not the text frame itself. Right now your text frame might be getting in your way, but if you move the text frame, you should be able to click on the COLUMN GUIDES and reposition them. I'd recommend moving these column guides on the Master Page so that the new guide setup will appear on all pages that are based on that Master Page. You can then create separate text frames linked together for each column on the Master Page. There are pros and cons to this. One con is that Span Columns can't be used with this method.

Any time that I try to use an application, the screen become normal just for a couple of seconds, and it zoom again. I can not reduce it with my fingers.
Also is dificult to move up or down the applications icon.

Ok, so... PS CS3 is kinda funky (buggy?) at times...
I am on a quad-core Mac... Fast machine with lots of memory...
Guides, in particular, are acting strange. The most annoying thing is when I am zoomed in (500%+, using Move Tool), and I want to snap my guide to each pixel increment on the ruler, holding down the shift key while moving the guide will make my guide disappear! Why???
Additionally, I have noticed that newly created guides will sometimes take a few seconds to refresh and/or update? The ruler itself will take a few seconds to update when I move the center point around.
Anyway, what's up with the disappearing guides?

UPDATE: I just opened a different document, and guides work fine... This disappearing guide problems appears to happen randomly.

Kinda OT: I tend to work with a lot of guides in my PS docs... I kinda wish Photoshop guides behaved like Illustrator guides. It would be cool to assign guides to different layers.
... A few other strange PS problems I have been having:
1. Save for web will take like a minute to actually save slices when first "saving for web" upon opening a doc... After that, it goes fast.
2. This happens occasionally: Command-tabbing through apps (example, Photoshop to Firefox, and back to Photoshop) will not bring the Photoshop menu to the front, but Photoshop is the selected front-most app. The fix: I have to command-tab back and forth one more time, in order to get Photoshop to come to front.

Why can't I select Disk Utility when I start in recovery mode?

Disk utility varification of HD detects requirement for repair and directs recovery mode startup. When I startup in recovery mode I cannot select Disk Utility or any of the other options. Likewise, I cannot select File, Edit, or any other options across the top of the screen? Any ideas?

The menu comes up, but I can't select any of the options or the continue button. I can move the arrow by moving my finger on the touch pad, but nothing is touch sensitive.
The menu box has a blue line around the inside of it when it comes up, as though it has been selected. I'm not at means anything.

How do I move or alter the shape of a selection? For example, after using the circle or rectangular selection tool, I would just want to move or nudge the selection - the 'marching ants' - over a little bit.
Whenever I try to do this with the move tool (with or without CTL or COMMAND keys held down), the only thing I get it to do is move the selected part of the photo, leaving a blank white background where my selection was.

Have you tried moving the selection with the arrow keys before you select Copy or Cut? This should give your selection the nudge you seek.
Also, if you just need to slightly increase your selection you can use Selection/Modify/Expand (or Contract). This will give you a pop where you can expand/contract by as little as 1 pixel. (A nod to Colin Walls who pointed out this somewhat obscure menu option in another thread this week).

How can I move select photos from my mac to my macbook air?

I would like to know the best, quickest, easiest way to move photos from my Mac to my macbook air? I have tried Migration Assistant--was going to take 4 hours and I don't want to share all files, just photos. I also went into System Pref. on each computer, clicked "Sharing" and attempted to allow access to both computers by setting up a Public folder but only some of the photos transferred. I also get a message on my mb air telling me I don't have access to the pictures on the other Mac, even though I have granted access to "Everyone" in my network. Also, I've updated both computers and rebooted them, to no avail.
We have a wireless network, if that makes a difference?

One great features is AirDrop if you connect both Mac on the same WiFi.
Go to finder, on the top of the left list you get : All my files, AirDrop, ...
Click on AirDrop on both computer, you will see on both computer each other. Then just drag and drop files from one computer to the other.

Share folders between your computer but with right rights on it ... can take a long time to explain ... ask if you wan't this solution

if you store your pictures in iPhoto you can share your library between several iPhoto.
Launch iPhoto on both Mac and on the source's one activate sharing library

If you have iCloud configured on both Mac and you store your photo in iPhoto both will get the last 1000th photos

Store your photo in dropbox and they will synchronize on both Mac

Why can't I select a HD when reinstalling Lion?

I am attempting to reinstall my OS but I am having some difficulty. I was told that the HD checked out OK and that an reinstallation of my OS Lion would resolve my problem. I rebooted the mac while holding control & R. I then followed the steps to install the OS. However, on the last step when I need to choose a HD it says that the disk is locked and I can't go any further. The macbook has not been able to start for over a week that is why I am reinstalling Lion. Any suggestions out there?

How can I move selected photos from one iPhoto Library to another?

When I set up a new iPhoto Library and copied photos into it, only the thumbnails transferred. I want to combine the two libraries now and have the master photos in the combined library. How do I do that in iPhoto 11 and how do I then remove duplicates?

The only way to merge libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager

How can I afford to use Photoshop when it costs $600/year?

I am a hobby photographer. I have used Photoshop 4, 5, and 6. Using Photoshop has generally cost me about $100/year or $200/2 years.
I, as is true of many hobby photographers, have enjoyed using PS to edit my images. I use only PS from the Creative Suite. I use functions that only PS provides, such as, layer masks. It seems I must stick with Photoshop 13 (CS5) and hope that there will be addons to keep it current. Any other suggestions?

You may have missed some details.
It's $9.95/month for the first year, $19.95/month after. I read that as $120/year then $240/year. I'm not sure where you got your $600 figure. This is for a single product: Photoshop CC with what used to be Extended functionality (there are no longer two editions, you always get 3D).
Yes, I realize this is still a price increase over what Photoshop standard used to cost if you kept up to date with upgrades to all the releases. It's about a wash with the Photoshop Extended upgrade pricing.
There is of course Photoshop Elements for those who don't want or need the full functionality of Photoshop. Much as that may seem insulting, Elements is actually not a half bad editor. Only thing is you can't do layers AND high bit depth editing at the same time - but that's not a kiss of death. It's quite possible to create very nice images using 8 bit editing; you just have to think about what you're doing a bit.
It's probably fantasy to think that 3rd party developers are going to be able to "keep Photoshop CS6 current" through plug-ins, scripts, actions, etc. Yes, you might find someone may create a deconvolution tool or something to rival some of the added plug-ins, but nobody's going to be able to make Camera Raw a filter, or add features to the 3D subsystem, or make UI improvements.

Hi Mike,
I didn't know that it stops the HD if something was going to happen. It's very useful to know it! But I won't move it while it's working, I just will do it when it's sleeping. Sometimes I need to go upstairs and I don't want to turn it off because I'm running a lot of programs and then I would have to open them again.
That's a curious video!
I've installed Macromedia's Flash Player to say that kind of video sometime ago and under Safari it works right, but under Firefox (which is the brower that I'm used to use) it can't see the video. How can I open Firefox under Rosseta mode? I've installed Macromedia with Safari working under Rosseta mode, but I don't kno how can I do it for Firefox.

Why can't I select and move guides with selection tools?

I'm using Illustrator CC and I cannot select and move guides with the selection tools. The guides are not locked. I can select the guides in the Layers Panel, but I can only move with the arrow keys. I can also "Release" the guides once they are selected in the Layers Panel, but I still cannot move them with the mouse - only the arrow key.
Summary of Problem:
Guides are not locked.
Some guides can only be moved when they are selected in the Layer Panels and when using the arrow keys
Non-selectable Guides can be "Released" but only altered in color and line weight and still only moved with the arrow keys.
Desired Outcome:
I want to be able to move all guides using the mouse for greater accuracy vs the arrow keys.

The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

I'd recommend staring over, Pondini has created an excellent guide on how to use Setup Assistant. I'd recommend begin reading Pondini Setup Assistant tips where he talks about "Second Chance." Assuming your Time Machine backup is sound the restore should be very smooth.

The easiest way to move bookmarks around is in the Bookmarks Organizer, which at some point was renamed the Library. To open it, you can choose Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks or press Ctrl+Shift+b.
(Please note that the sort order of the Library dialog doesn't actually carry over to the menu. To sort the menu alphabetically, it's easiest to open the Bookmarks Sidebar, right-click the words Bookmarks Menu and choose Sort by Name.)

It happens sometimes. Delete the current copies, don't hide from iTunes in the cloud if prompted, close iTunes, reopen, download from iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
While downloading click the download icon at the top right and uncheck Enable simultaneous downloads. You may find it more reliable that way.
