  • Can't move songs within playlist?

I am running 7.6.1.9 itunes and can no longer move songs within my play lists.
I used to be able to click and drag them around to change their order within the playlist.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Make sure the playlist is not set to Shuffle
Select the very first column header before the track names.

  • CAN'T MOVE SONGS IN PLAYLIST

I create a playlist with songs from my library and then try to drag the songs within the playlist to make a different order and they wont change position from how they were originally dragged in. is there a setting i need to check or uncheck to fix this so i can arrange my songs the way i want them within the created playlist?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions, Terry!
Assuming that we're talking about a Playlist (as opposed to a Smart Playlist), just make sure it's sorted by the left-most column in the Playlist display.
You can sort the playlist in different ways by clicking on the various column headings at the top of the display, but only when you've selected the column with the numbers on the left-hand side will you be able to rearrange the songs.
If this doesn't solve your problem, post back.

  • Suddenly can't move songs in itunes playlists

I've been using iTunes ever since it came out and I use it all the time. Suddenly today I can't move songs around in my playlists. I tried making a new playlist and moving songs from the library into it and even that doesn't work (I can't actually move a song from my music library into any playlist any more)
I've checked through all the other threads where people have had this problem and done everything suggested but nothing is working.
I do have the playlist number arrow highlighted
I do have manual ordering turned on in the view options
I've logged out and restarted several times
    I have shuffle turned off
The only possible thing I can think of is that I got an invitation to upgrade to iTunes 11.4 which I said I would download, but although I've been taken into the app store, nothing is showing. Could it be something to do with iTunes 11.4 or the app store?

Ahhh!!! I closed down for a few hours and now it's working fine!

How can I move songs to my playlist using my iphone rather than my computer?

I found this thread via a search, I have a new iphone 5 (also i am completely new to iphone, having been the last few years on android) and i have spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to add a song to a playlist.
You see i sit a work and listen to dozens of tunes, and i want to add a paticular song to a particular play list, and low and behold I can't, excuse my special characters but "What the f#%k itunes/apple??? - how can this be? Such a commonly needed function and for itunes to be the number music player in the world not to have this feature is ludicrus.
I am lucky that i only have about 500 songs on my iphone thus far, i feel sorry for stephanW with 4000+ !!

  • My husband and I use the same computer. He has his Itunes library that updates his ipod. I have my ITunes library that updates my ipod. How can we share songs between us?

My husband and I use the same home computer. He has his ITunes library that links to his Ipod. I have my ITunes library that links to my Ipod. How can we share songs between our libraries? (Windows - Vista)

    No. Its not possible.
Alternatively, create another user account in your computer. Install iTunes in that account with the library you wish to sync.

  • Can't add songs to playlists in iTunes 9

Is anyone else having this problem in iTunes 9? I can't drag any songs into any playlists (existing or newly created). I can, however, delete songs from playlists.
    Please help!
    Thanks

I was adding songs to my iPod playlist and not even 2 minutes in to the task I could no longer drag and drop songs into ANY of my playlists. I could just as easily right-click and the songs would go without problem.
I've just got off the phone with Apple Support and all he had me do was download the most recent security update. I believe the only reason I was asked to do with was so my Macbook would not just restart, but also refresh all of the apps as well.
    So far so good. KMFC.

  • Can't move songs within my playlists

Tried to move songs within my playlists, but menu button is not working. I just bought the phone 2 weeks ago, never dropped it and the botton works fine in other apps. I took out the battery, but it still doesnt work.

I experienced the same problem with the menu button not working when trying to remove a song from a playlist.  I did come up with a work around though.  Remove the song from your phone, then proceed to delete the song from the playlist.  Note: the menu button will work when trying to remove songs from a playlist which have been deleted from your phone.  Then, if you still want that song on your phone, but not in the playlist, add the song back onto your phone.

  • Can ypou move songs from one ipod to another?

Is there a way to move songs from one way to another, if so can you tell me.

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Can i move songs from my iPod to my new matchbook air?

I bought a brand new mackbook air and i had trouble on the migration assisstant because the verification window wouldnt show up on my old dell. I would now like to know if i am able to move songs from my ipod to my new mac without having to use migration assisstant. Please help me! Thanks!

one way to can simply do this (if dragging and dropping won't work), is to simply put the songs that you would like in the playlist into the On-The-Go playlist in your iPod. Once you have put these songs into the On-The-Go folder (by highlighting the song and holding down the center button), simply plug the ipod back into your computer, and rename the folder with the songs in it. Hope this helps.

  • Can't move songs on iPod

I went to update my iPod today and discovered that I could no longer move songs around on the iPod in iTunes. I used to be able to play music off the iPod in iTunes, and now the library on the iPod is faded out (meaning I can't do anything with the music like make playlists or delete songs...I can't even add individual songs when I use the manual sync option). I can still listen to the music on the iPod and add songs to the default "untitled playlist", but I can't even rename the untitled playlist when the iPod syncs. I tried chosing the automatically sync option, and once everything had been re-imported into my iPod i got a warning that some songs were not imported because they could not be played on my iPod - these were songs that were on it before and I had no problems with. Finally I tried restoring the iPod and re-syncing everything, but the same songs don't work and I still can't change stuff on iTunes.
I also noticed that when I click on my iPod on the desktop I no longer have a folder for music - i only have notes, contacts and calendars.

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manage the content manually.

  • Can't move songs after installing the iTunes 10.5.3 upgrade

Jan. 23, 2012.    On Friday, Jan. 20.  I installed the iTunes upgrade from the previous version to 10.5.3 and now I can't move my songs in or out of my playlists. The only thing that has changed since the update installation from the previous latest version of iTunes is installation of the  upgrade to 10.5.3.   I can not add songs to my plyalists or take them out.  I can not copy a song to the desktop like I previously could.   Wha' happened?    I've used the disk utility to repair permissions and I've got read and write permission within iTunes.

So far no one has responded and I've not been able to find anything via search.  Last evening I managed to move files by dragging them either into a playlist or onto the desktop after I had used the disk utility to repair permissions.  The first attempt produced no change. A bit later I decided to try again.  That is when iTunes functioned properly.  However, this morning when I tried to drag files, reorganize, etc.  The same problem was back.  I opened up the disk utility again to repair permissions thinking that might work since it worked yesterday.  Well, same thing.  No change after the utility was done.  Back to square one.
Since I was able to move music after a second attempt yesterday, I'm going to try the disk utility to repair permissions again, but I have to close out of this and will have to start a new reply.
I've never had this problem with any of the previous iTunes versions or operating system updates/upgrades.  My computer is a 5 year old MacBook that works fine and currently has Snow Leopard 10.6.8
