Can't name external style sheet
I have DW CS3 on the MAC (Leopard). I am trying to create an
external style sheet. I click the New Style + button, the Rule
window opens and i choos Tag and chose the paragraph tag p and
Define in is a New Style Sheet. Hit OK and in the Save As field I
type "feature.css" then hit Save. But then, the Rule Definition
window opens and the style sheet is called "untitled". Why is this?
Thanks
OK, now for the workaround. Use a script to apply the style (I think there's one around here somewhere). Use a KB shortcut to activate the script.
Numpad keys are reserved, and are the only keys that will work, to define a style shortcut directly.

Obvious NewbieTo populate all pages in a site with a common banner image or menu, read DW help about Templates, Library Items or Server-Side-Includes.
As Nadia said, you can style a #header division with CSS to use a background image.
EXAMPLE here:
http://alt-web.com/DEMOS/Liquid-header.shtml
CSS code:
#header {
padding:0 10px 0 10px;
line-height:0;
color:white;
font-weight:bold;
background: #000000 url(../Images/Alt-Web-lensflair.jpg) no-repeat top left;

External Style Sheet ??
Read and Practice and it all comes together! :)
Well, most of it anyway...
I am doing CSS LAYOUT and I forgot to create an external
style sheet or something.
Can I just take all the CSS code in the header now and paste
it into a text file and save it as .css?
And then delete the code in the header?
And I lost that little line of code to put on each page to go
load the .css file.
Is there some difference between a css layout file and a css
style file?
They can be incorporated into one file right?
peace
rjCSS is CSS, not JS. But you can externalize the js files,
too.
And it's not JAVA, it's javascript. The two are completely
different.

> name it with what extender and what first line in the
file.?
Yes. Make sure that you remove the
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
and the
-->
</script> (the comment lines may or may not be there)
before you save the file. Then use DW's INSERT | HTML >
Script > browse to
and select the file.

How to include external style sheet
Hi !!
Can any one explain how to include external style sheet.Anil,
Simply include the css file as I demonstrated in my last post and then reference one the css classes by name in the "styleClass" attribute of the component. So, if the css file that have included in my JSP file (as demonstrated in the prev post) contains a class like:
.spicyPink {
color:#FF1CAE;
font-weight:bold;
Then I would simply reference this class in the component as folows:
<af:outputText value="Pretty In Pink" styleClass="spicyPink"/>
However, you can also add styling to a component inline and accomplish the same task:
<af:outputText value="Pretty In Pink" inlineStyle="color:#FF1CAE;
font-weight:bold;"/>
The thing to remember is that other than the use of styleClass and inlineStyle, referencing and including css in your JSP/JSPX pages is really no different that used in an HTML page.
Here is reference to help you along:

Dreamweaver CC understanding external style sheets when using Fluid layouts?
I'm attempting to build a website using the Dreamweaver CC Fluid layout feature. I've been using this tutorial:
http://www.adobe.com/inspire/2012/08/fluid-grid-layouts-dreamweaver-cs6.html
The bit i'm stuck at is when it comes to attaching a external style sheet to format the text and content. So to be clear, i've already created my fluid layout and created a 'layout.css' file when promted, then using some html 5 class div tags (header, navigation and article) i've built my layout. All doing what I want up to this point.
Now I need to start adding content and from what I understand its much better practice to set up another external style sheet for the text formatting and styling.
I used the CSS Designer to 'create a new CSS file', called it 'typography.css' and I can see its linked to the main Source Code file.
I understand that theory but here is where its confusing for me:
After creating and linking the new CSS file what do I do next? Do I have to hand code in various text formatting ids or is there a more visual way of doing it? Or do I select my text content in the source code page and then press the '+' button in the 'Selectors' panel to start adding ids that way? And should the class or id names in the new CSS file be the same as in the layout CSS file or different?
I guess I dont really understand excatly how external style sheets should be created and implemented, all the youtube vids i've watched so far are done with hand coding but i'd like to use the Properties panel to do it in a more visual way if possible.
Any tips or help greatly appreciated, some basic learning needed. Thanks.Giving a detailed explanation of how to best use CSS goes beyond the scope of what this forum can do. There are volumes of books, blogs and tech sites devoted to this topic.

Internal or External Style Sheet labels.
This may be a stupid question, but how can I determine which styles are attached to an internal or external style sheet? I have modified text and messed up my whole site not realizing it was attached to an external sheet that was site wide. I can't seem to find any indication in the Styles pallate when I click on them whether they are internal or external. This is frustrating when working on a site. Any explanation will be much appreciated.
@LarsenGraphiCDesign - There is no real way to in the panels convey whether the stylesheet has been linked in other files .I would suggest you to log an enhancement request to us at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
As a workaround - I can suggest -
you add a webfont in one of the css file and on save you are presented with an option to update all other html files that are related to the same css .
Move the css to a different location and see waht files the css is linked to
Thereby giving you an option to see all html files related to the particular css
But then the first option only works in the most recent version of DW , the second should work even in older versions of DW -
Is it possible to change the color of a layer of a Customs CSS from an External Style sheet?
Hi,
I have sucessfully link External .css file to my HTML page and able to change the font size of the headlines and the paragraph.
What I am not able to do is to ADD the color my Custom CSS from the External sheet. I have difined the color attribute as a 'Advance'
and gave it the same name "#bigwraper" that is has in my HTML file.
Attached is the color outline of my 'Blank Layout' with colors?
Thank you.
Dreamer101.1Hi Murray,
I am building a web site on which the entire content would be changed at least daily. The website would have similar design to www.Helium.com
The page will have CCS layout boxes in which different content would be pasted.
To re-phrase my question: I want to know how to change the color of a layer from an external style sheet?
Because my home page 'Sidebar' and colors would be the same for all page, only the content of different pages would be different. If I want to change a color of my web side pages, I need to learn how to do it in one spot through an External Style Sheet.
I am amble to link my external style sheet and to change H1 tag and to give it different colors. But I was not sucess with change the color of a layer on which my content sits around.
I took out the color from my HTML page and gave the same name to the layer in my External Style Sheet with the same color.
Hope my question and the reason I was able to clarify.
cheers,

Export css rules to an external style sheet
Hi
For some reason, when i try and right click on my selected styles to move them into a new external style sheet the option to move css rules isn't in bold so i can't perform the task. Its the same when i try and select move css rules from the format tab in my toolbar. Has anyone come across this before or know another way around it. I also seem to get different options appear on my right click depending on what view I am in, is this normal?
Thanks
EllenWhy don't you manually move your embedded CSS code into a new CSS file (in code view)?
Then link your HTML pages to your external style sheet.

RH 11 v11.0.2.240: Cleaning up an External Style Sheet (CSS)
Hello,
I am in the process of trying to clean up a CSS for an "old" RoboHelp project. I believe the CSS contains many unused styles that were probably "trial & error" styles, but were never deleted when they failed to produce the correct format. I know it doesn't do any harm to leave them in the CSS, but I really don't want them around!
I did not see a report in RoboHelp that would provide this information, but before doing a search for each individual style using a program like Agent Ransack, I wanted to see if anyone in the Community had any clever ideas as to how to accomplish this task.
Thanks for your input/suggestions!I can't say I've had this issue. But then again, I never use the CSS property inspector to create an external style sheet. I just hit File > New > CSS. I add my CSS rules and Save it to the local site folder.

I have a lot of external style sheets linked in my template to various pages on my website. They directories are all off the root directory.
How can I specify in the absolute path linking the external style sheets rather than the relative path since each page would be from a different starting point?An absolute path would be
http://www.yoursitename.com/subdirectory/filename.css
And the way you would link it would be:
<link href="http://www.yoursitename.com/subdirectory/filename.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
You can see this when you link to a typeface hosted by Google:
<link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Alegreya+Sans+SC' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
That absolute path links to the Google-hosted stylesheet no matter where the website is located and works for all browsers that have an internet connection (in other words, it will not work on a corporate intranet, unless the computer on that intranet could also see the Internet).

I am fairly new at designing Web pages. However, I have
learned how to create external style sheets and internal syles in
Dreamweaver. My problem is that when I create an external
style sheet and attach it to Dreamweaver documents, the styles work
fine in Safari and Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox. Internal
styles work fine in Firefox. Is this a Firefox limitation or am I
do something wrong?I checked out your page in FF, EI (6), NS and Opera... all
looked the same
to me. Not sure what problem you are having. One note
however, when your
text size is changed, it overlaps your "Not taking new
clients" box badly.
Might want to take a look at how you do that. Needs to flow
with the text
size (and people WILL change the text size so you need to be
aware of that
in your designs)

Banner image disappears when I move css to external style sheet
If I have the following code in the head of the document, the banner image is displayed:
<link href="css/styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/copyNote.js"></script>
<style type="text/css">
<!--
#banner
margin: 0 auto;
width: 980px;
height: 198px;
background-image:url(images/banner.gif);
-->
</style>
But if I move the above code to the linked external style sheet (css/styles.css) everything shows up except the banner image.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?BcSurvivor08 wrote:
the image path shouldn't change since the image is still in the image folder, right?
Yes, but the path to the image in the CSS must be relative to the location of the external CSS file.
In other words, the following rule in the home page
#banner
margin: 0 auto;
width: 980px;
height: 198px;
background-image:url(images/banner.gif);
would be written in the external CSS file as
#banner
margin: 0 auto;
width: 980px;
height: 198px;
background-image:url(../images/banner.gif);
because the CSS file is inside the css folder (one level down from the root folder).
../ says "From the "css" folder, go up a folder level then look for banner.gif inside the "images" folder.. -
Moving CSS to an external style sheet [was: CSS]
Hi
I have in error created all my css for a site as "this doccument only" what i meant to do was create a site wide style sheet !
Is there a way to copy my css and turn it into a .css file that applies to the whole site, without starting again.
Help much appreciated.
many thanks

[Subject line edited by moderator for clarity]Hi
Highlight the css from the document and select - Format - css styles - move css rules. Select new style sheet from the dialog, name the style sheet and save. Check that a link has been created for the new style sheet, if not select attach style sheet from the - Format - css styles list.

Should i put my table in my external style sheet?
Should i put my table in my external style sheet? if so how do i do this?
i'm having serious problems trying to stop my menu bar and header to stop jumping around when a switch pages. I realised i needed to create an external style sheet. however, when i extracted the ccs styles from my one of my pages (my homepage), there is only styles for my spry menu bar, nothing else. - however this doesnt stop my menu bar from moving around. all of my pages are use tables. so my menu bar and header are both 'td' rather than in a div or wrapper.
it seems as though nothing i try will stop my items from moving around. they are all exactly the same width and height in html and the same in css. I know about attaching style sheets, but i just cant seem to understand how to get everything aligned properly. I want my external style sheet to have my header at the top and centre, and my menu bar underneath and centre. How do i do this using a table? do i put the table into the external style sheet so that my table measurements etc are the same for each page? + how do i do this? Does anything else other than positions, colours, fonts etc go into my external style sheet? cos im aware that i use the html for the things i want to look different and every page, and the css for the things that i want to look the same. so which stuff goes in which? im getting really confused now, does my header and menu bar need to go in my external style as well as my html? :S
everything just seems to have gone horribly wrong, ive tried so many things, but everything i try simply has no effect. blahhh :/and this is the external style sheet, which i extracted from my home page (the top code). what do i need to add to this?
