Can't network airport computers

3 macs are connected to internet via airport, but can't see each other or any ethernet macs. 2 macs are connected via ethernet hub - they can see & connect to each other and the airport macs.
connection is Fios to airport extreme to 4 port ethernet hub
at one time this setup worked with all macs seeing and talking to each other

Here are some ideas and questions.
1. Make sure that the DSL or cable modem is connected to the Snow's WAN port, not its LAN port.
2. Are all 5 computers connecting to the network wirelessly, or are some connected via Ethernet? If via Ethernet, what is your network structure?
3. Can all the computers not only "see" your network, but join it? (Does a check mark appear next to the correct network name in each computer's AirPort status menu?)
4. Can both computers that can connect to the Internet do so simultaneously?
5. Check the IP address of each computer when all are joined to your network. Do they all have the form "10.0.1.x"? This is expected if each is obtaining an IP address via DHCP from the base station.
6. Are the balky computers MacBooks and/or MacBook Pros? Note that this month Apple came out with an AirPort Client Update for MacBook and MacBook Pro, which is intended to address an AirPort performance issue while running on battery power under Mac OS X 10.5.8.

I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • Can I use airport express in a wired network to play music through my stereo?

I originally used my 1st gen AE to wirelessly stream music from iTunes on my MacPro to my home theater.  This works, but there are some good days and some bad days where there are dropouts in the music.  I have recently run Cat6 cable to my HT from my router next to my MacPro.  This feeds a Gigabit switch that feeds the ATV, receiver, bluray, HD DVD, etc.  I plugged in the AE to the switch but it still defaults to the wifi network rather than taking a feed from the ethernet switch.  I know i can (and do) use the ATV (gen 1) to steam music, but sometimes it more convenient to use the AE.  Is there a way to force the wifi on the AE off and just have it for streaming from iTunes?  Thanks.

Yes, you can configure an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a standalone wireless router without Internet access for the purposes of providing a Wi-Fi network for streaming. Note that any computers that will be the host of that stream would need to connect to this AX's wireless network while doing so. They would not be able to be connected to two wireless networks simultaneously for both streaming AND Internet access.

  • Can't network computers with firewall on and ? have been Hacked

I have 2 questions that are somewhat related to a firewall problem.
I have not had my firewall turned on in Sharing because I can't connect to my other computers when I have it turned on. I have a 2Ghz iMac and a 17inch Mac Book Pro both running 10.4.6 sharing on an Airport Nework. When I turn on the firewall, I can not connect the computers using Network. I have Personal File Sharing, Person Web Sharing and Apple Remote Desktop checked under Services and Personal File Sharing turned on. When I turn the Firewall off, I can connect. Is there some way to turn on a Firewall in the Airport?
I think this problem comes from not having my firewall turned on. When I wake up my computer from sleep and Entourage is open, the progress window says it is opening an account that I don't have. The attempt to access doesn't last very long, but comes on several times for a few seconds, and then goes away. It is or a Yahoo account, and then this morning was some other account I had never heard of. I can't find anything in my accounts that has any of these names. I can only see the accounts that I have made. It seems that someone somehow has managed to hijack my Entourage. Is there anyway to find where these accounts are coming from, and how do I get rid of them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    2Ghz iMac G5 and 17" MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You're welcome. By the way, the Bonjour name is simply the name you gave the computer (which you can find in System preferences/Sharing) with '.local' at the end. Using this makes it easier to choose the right network when needed from your favourites list.

  • Can I use Airport for a computer to computer network AND my wireless router

    ...at the same time?
I've got a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro which I can happily connect together to share files or do screen sharing via a computer to computer airport network, or I can also switch (via Finder's airport menu) to my router's wireless network to access t'internet.
But, is it possible to NOT have to switch this over? I'd like to be able to share both computers' files AND be online at the same time. I'm hoping that the airport network can access the other Mac AND the wireless router simultaneously.
I'm guessing I couldn't use internet sharing on one of the computers because BOTH of them need to be switched to the ad-hoc computer to computer network.
I apologise if this question has been asked in the forums before, but it's impossible to do a meaningful search with keywords "airport" "internet" "computer to computer network" - those words cover pretty much every network-related post!

Airport can only connect to one wireless interface at a time...
However you are going about things the wrong way, what you want is a LAN... and that is exactly what your router provides, connect both computers to the router and then initiate file sharing and other local protocols.
If it does not work you will have to configure your router to enable devices to communicate with each other.
To do so you enter the *router's IP address* into your web browser's address bar, you can find this under *system preferences> network> airport>*
    i.e. some common router private addresses: 192.168.1.254, 192.168.0.1, 10.0.1.10
This will display the router's web interface, you will need to refer to your router's documentation to find out how to configure it, but many are self explanatory or provide on page help. What most "user friendly" routers call it is "device isolation" or something similar, - this needs to be disabled (to allow all clients to communicate with each other).

  • Old host-based printer can be networked using Airport Express

Was thrilled to find out that my old HP printer works (uh, at least it DID work) as a wireless network printer because of Airport Express! (THAT's why I paid more for a router with a printer port.)
According to HP, my old HP LaserJet 1020 printer is host-based and therefore supposedly NOT network-compatible. (True, a host-based printer CAN be shared among computers on a network as long as the printer is connected to the powered-on main computer, but I wanted more than that.) BTW, the HP 1020 shares drivers with the network-compatible 1022.
But AX doesn't care whether a printer is host-based. Took several steps (including Bonjour) to get it to work, and I've printed wirelessly from both my PCs with the HP LaserJet 1020 plugged into the AX USB port.
First I installed the HP drivers (1020/1022 plug and play, from the HP website) and set up and printed from computer 1. Late at night, maybe I did this through Bonjour, but I think instead I was able to just find it through Windows > Add a printer). It defaulted to an HP 1020.
Next I installed the HP drivers and set up and printed from computer 2. Bonjour didn't find the printer, so I did a manual setup through Airport Utility, choosing TCP/IP and entering the IP address of the AX (10.0.1.1). I chose to set it up as an HP 1022, based on my limited understanding that some folks report better results that way.
When I went back to print from computer 1, I printed a file successfully. However, even later that night (yawn), when I tried to print a second file from computer 1, the print job would show up in the queue as "printing" but would then revert to error.
Any settings advice out there? I've read that the 1020 has been known to crash the print spooler, so I may re-install on computer 1 as if it's a 1022. Should I change the spooler settings? Shouldn't need to "share" the printer through Windows, right? Do I need to add _1 to the printer's IP address on the second computer? At least it worked ONCE, so I'm confident this can be set up to work reliably.

Just wanted to provide my happy update. For whatever reason, all I had to do was redo the printer setup on computer 1, and all I needed was Windows Add a Printer, now tha I know what steps to take. I'm printing wirelessly to it through my network, yay!
So if you have a host-based printer (which HP support website says is not network compatible), you can still use it as a network printer, thanks to Airport Express! No need to plug the printer into a computer and use Windows Printer Share.

  • Can't connect to computers on the same network and same office

Hi everyone, I have this problem from some time now, I have on the same network some computers with ethernet, and some with Wi-Fi.
All are connected to the C-Net Wireless-G Router.
My iBook is on the Wi-Fi zone (All have 10.4.11) and I can see the computers on the Ethernet area, but I have an iMac 2.0 next to my iBook and I can't see it.
How is that possible? Am I making something wrong with the subnet mask or IP address?
All are configured to use 192.168.1.254 as the router and on the subnet 255.255.255.0. Manually.
The IP variates from device to device on the 192.168.1.X numbers, starting with 100 on the iMac, and ending with 113 on an old 8600.
Wy can't I see the iMac?, si so close that I can reach her with my hands, but can't connect to transfer files over the network.
If anyone could give me a hand here, I will apprettiate the advice.
Thaks to everyone, Pablo from Argentina.

You are on a different subnet. In x.x.x.0 the x's are different.
All the computers are in the same subnet, cable ones and wi fi ones.

Look at what ip addresses you have on each machine.
I have different IPs on each machine, do you need the numbers?

    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Network Utility.app
Use the ping command to see what is going on. Ping 192.168.1.254, source & destination machine. 127.0.0.1 is an alias of the machine you are on.

  • Airport card can see networks but can't connect all of a sudden

I have an older MacBook running 10.6.8 (snow leopard) and it's been working fine. All of a sudden, it can see networks, but cannot connect. I get an alert with an exclamation point and "no Internet connection". My iPad can connect just fine; same network, same location as usual, so I know it's not an issue with the network/router (my husband's computer works fine as well). If my airport card went, I wouldn't be able to see any networks at all, right?  Is there anything I can do?  My AppleCare has run out, due to the age of my computer and I don't want to put hundreds into fixing it, either (nor can I afford it). Has anyone had this happen?  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

  • I can see my airport extreme network, but none of my devices (vista, ipad, iphone, ipod) can connect to it. Why?

I have set up my apple aiport extreme after moving and I can see the airport extreme light is green and I can see the airport extreme network name, but when I select the network, the device cannot connect to it. No error message appears, the device simply is in a constant state of trying to connect to the network.
I can easily connect to the non Airport Extreme network.
    Can anyone help?

Try factory resetting, it often helps when changing location.

  • How many people can simultaneously share airport express network?

How many people can simultaneously share airport express network?  I want to set up a wireless network in my classroom and need to accommodate about 25 devices.

The AirPort Express will only handle 10 wireless connections.
You will need to consider an AirPort Extreme....which will handle up to 50 wireless connections.

  • Canon MX860 Can't See My Computers On Network

    Hi All,
I recently updated to Snow Leopard and all updates have been installed as of 11-16-09. I have a Canon MX860 connected wirelessly to local network. I can print from the computers, but when I try scanning over the network from the Canon, it is not seeing the computers with snow leopard??? Any ideas. Thanks.
    Cheers,

Hello ScKaSx and welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you say that the Canon cannot see the SL Mac's, do you mean you are trying to send the document to the Mac by pressing the Scan button on the MX860?
If so, then you need to ensure that you have the correct version of MP Navigator, Canon IJ Network Tool and MP Navigator Opener installed.
If this is not what you mean, then could you give some more information.

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the picture of the AirPort Express
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
    Edit the Wireless Network Name
Keep it short.....maximum 10-12 characters or so. No blank spaces or punctuation marks in the name

Have you attempted to reset the SMC? That would be the first step. Hold the left control, option, shift key and the power button for about 5 seconds and release. Then try to reboot. Might as well reset the PRAM as well. Hold command, option, P, R on start up until the machine restarts. If that doesnt' have any affect we'll have to dig deeper into a potential hardware failure.
If this method doesn't work, check the webcam that will tell the problem is on the iSight & WiFi cable. If your webcam is ok, then it'll be the WiFi card problem. Hope it can help ;-)

Can I use airport time capsule with a hotspot network?
    Very very poorly..
It can join a wireless network..
    See instructions here.

End result is super slow wireless connection to the TC and all packets pass through the hotspot so expect internet to drop to nothing while you are backing up.
