Can't open a pdf I installed on my site

When I try to go to a pdf I installed on my site , Firefox instead suddenly asks me to save the page on my computer. This is something new this afternoon.
Works fine on Chrome and Safari. It doesn't happen with an html or docx.

Just can't open any pdf files. Having no luck trying to fix myself.

For Firefox users, there might be a built in pdf viewer, or a preferred viewer that handles pdf files.

I am able to open PDFs from the Internet normally using the Adobe Reader X plugin, but for some reason, it doesn't kick in when I open local PDF files.
I am using Firefox 4.0.1 and Adobe Reader X.

Do you have any graphics editing software like photoshop or something similar.?
Surely you can just open both images, resize the image you want to add, then copy and paste it into the main image. Save this as a new file and set it as the background.
If you need a graphics editing program you can download one called The Gimp for free. Just make sure you have X11 installed.

  • Can't open ANY pdf files. Updated to 10.1.8--still "Access Denied."

    Hello everyone,
I am currently unable to open any PDF files.
I recently did a clean re-install of Windows 7 (restored my Toshiba Satellite to out-of-the-box state).
After that, I restored all of my personal files from an external HD.
Now, every time I try to open a PDF, Adobe Reader gives me the following message:
"There was an error opening the file. Access denied."
The only solution I've been able to find online has been this:
Edit > Preferences > General> Clear "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
    Also,
Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)> Clear "Enable Enhanced Security"
Neither of these has fixed my problem.
I also updated to the lastest version--10.1.8--with no success.
I also re-downloaded and installed PDF Creator and its companion, PDF Architect. Curiously enough, I can't open any PDF in that program either. I'm not sure if there is some global setting I'm missing or something.
Access to these files is critical to my work, so any help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Lauren

I updated from within the Adobe Reader X program (Help > Check for Updates) and it tells me: No updates available. Installed: Adober Reader X (10.1.8) MUI
Is 11.0.5 something I would have to access another way?
Also, I'm still not sure if that would fix my problem. It seems most people with the "Access Denied" error had it fixed with the very first 10.1 update, and I have 10.1.8, so I'm not sure what's causing mine.

  • I can't open A PDF document either

As I understand it you are using Reader, not Acrobat. It is appropriate to ask questions in the Reader forum. Adobe is the name of the company, not the product.
When you say you can not open a PDF, how are you trying to open it? Can you open Reader? Have you rebooted after the install? -- A lot of questions you did not answer.

  • I can't open a pdf file.

My computer was working fine until about 2-3 weeks ago. Suddenly I could no longer open a PDF file. I had Adobe Reader installed and all was good. I asked our IT guy and he suggested downloading Adobe Reader again. I did this and still get the error message. Then I had a friend to tell me to uninstall and reinstall. That did not work either. The error message looks like this:
    Fill conversion - document name.pdf
Select the encoding that makes your document readable.
    Text coding (then 3 options)
    Windows (default)             MS-DOS           Other encoding
Then there is a pop-up window within the error message with all kinds of options.
    Help!
    Thank you!

    Good afternoon Pat,

  • I can't open any pdf with Adobe Reader XI, neither online or offline - OS X

Since I've upgraded to Acrobat Reader XI I'm not able to open any pdf file.
I can't open any .PDF already existing in my Mac and also can't open anything online throughout browser (I use Safari and Chrome)
I've already uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader over and over again and it has no improving.
I've tried to install an older version and still doesn't work.
All my problems started with the upgrade to Adobe Reader XI.
As you can imagine I really need to be able to open pdf through browser, that's my biggest concern.
I'll attach the error message that appears on the screen.

    Hi a.vouga,
Are you still facing this issue.
If yes, i would suggest you may create a new user profile and install Reader again and check.
    Regards,
    Ajlan Huda.

  • Preview can't open any pdf file

PDF documents are greyed out in the open menu.
Setting Preview as the "open this document with..." app in the get info window gives the message that "it's not known if this application can open Adobe PDF files"
At the same time, Safari started crashing on being asked to open a PDF file.
I've reinstalled Safari, grabbed Preview from a Time Machine backup from when it worked, reinstalled the developer tools in case they wrote over webkit, trashed all preferences and rebooted. No joy.
I looked at the document types list in Preview's info.plist and the entry for com.adobe.pdf is in there. I've opened an eps file in Preview and saved it as a pdf; I can then open that pdf in Acrobat, but not in Preview (even though it appears in the "recent documents" list.)
    What am I missing?

Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. If not, report back. If so, download and install the 10.6.3 COMBO update. If that doesn't fix the problem, reinstall SL, and if fixed, run Software Update until you're back to 10.6.3. If still no go, run this one-line Terminal command and restart:

  • Can't open web pdf files from my Reader DC because my IMac wants a completed license agreement to use Reader and I never saw that page during installation.

Can't open web pdf files from my newly installed Reader DC because my IMac wants a completed license to use agreement to Reader, and I never saw that page during installation.  How do I get past this?

You need to accept the EULA on first launch of the Reader DC application.
Go to the Applications folder and launch Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
This will bring up the EULA.
Select the "Agree" button if you agree with the terms
Assuming you selected the "Agree" button, Reader DC should open.
You should now be able to open PDF files in your web browser.

  • I renewed my Acrobat Standard on my mac and now it says it won't work on mac.  Can't open any pdf's.  Help!

CAn't open any pdf files after updating my Acrobat.  What do I do now?

I'm afraid I don't really understand what you've done. How could you renew Acrobat Standard on a Mac when it isn't available for Mac? But you say you "updated" it, suggesting it was actually installed before. Please tell us more.

  • Recently can't open any PDF

I recently can't open any PDF files, even I had tried to uninstall and install Adobe Reader many times!
    Thanks

O.. I had read your last replying msg :

First thing to try: using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement.
    It's really helpful Thanks!!

  • Can't 'open' any pdf but 'save and open' always works

I have installed the latest versions of Win7 and Acrobat, without any improvement.

Actually, provide the specific steps you are using. The problem may be an OS option, not Acrobat. To say you can not open the PDF, we would normally assume you have opened Acrobat and selected File>Open. If that is not the case, be specific about what you are doing.

  • I can't open my pdf files.

I recently installed Adobe Reader XI on my Windows XP system. In order to create more hard disk space I then unistalled Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Adobe Air. Now I can't open any pdf files. Q. What should I do ?
    Rainbow_1934

I see I have been corrected there is so much conflicting on Adobe websites. In one place I read specifically,  that XI only works Windows 7 and above. and Yet here I find out that if XP is properly Updated it works just fine.  So next time a Reader question comes up I will just send them to Reader forum.
I wish when Adobe puts out information, and then find out, well maybe it does after all. They remove the old information and update it.
Adobe  though is not the only company that does this. To a degree all software companies do so. They put out information say it won't work here or works there. But then later on find out yes it does, or no it doesn't. And they leave the bogus information out for people to trip over. It seems it’s a test to see whether people read the notes to begin with. If a enough people don't pay attention they won't provide them.
