Can't open AEP file, crashes AE 6 with error messages...

I've been rendering a 3D scene for a few weeks and got all the final frames finished on Thanksgiving. I've been composing them all weekend and one particular file I had all put together and then saved it and closed it and tried to open it Adobe Media Encoder to make a final video to send off to the client. Encoder repeatedly would hang at 100% opening the file, so I decided to open up AE again to see what was up and sure enought the file itself wouldnt open anymore. I get the error message [After Effects error: crash occurred while envoking effect plug-in "Auto Level"] and then [After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was:<3376> <Dynamic Link> <5> C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe]. Then it crashes completely and asks if I want to save the file. Of course the resulting saved file is only a fraction of the oriiginal file size and doesnt open either. I tried emptying the cache files and turning on caps lock, tried to import the file into a new project and even place it on the Premiere timeline. No dice, nothing I know seems to work. I'd really rather not have to redo the 10+ hours I spent composing all those layers and re-adding back all the effects work. I can see all my compositions in the background while its crashing (which just pains me). Any way I could get my file back into a useable state?? Wouldn't care if I needed to re-do some of it, but deadline is approaching fast and I just can't be spending all the time to redo this one scene.
I'm on a 6core i7 PC, Win7 64bit OS with 32Gb of Ram and an Nvidia 670GTX 2Gb video card , 2 internal SSDs set as RAID for the boot drive. Of course this is all in After Effects CS6 from the master collection. Everything is latest driver as of 4 weeks ago when I started all of this (brand new machine!). I am composing 16bit PNG image sequences, and adding standard color corrections and image tuning, as well as a pass in Red Giant Looks, Re:visions Reel Smart Motion Blur and Video CoPilots Optical Flares.

What Dave said. MP is hopelessly overrated. Sometimes it works splendidly on simple projects, most of the time not so much when you throw halfway complex stuff at it. In your case it would have been quietly disabled behind your back, anyways (read this for reference: After Effects Help | Memory and storage), but with AE anything is possible. I suspect that a conflict between hardware acceleration features for another effect or footage decoding made things go boom in your case, but without knowing al lthe details, it's impossible to tell what exactly caused the breakdown.

  • How can I open my file after 'cannot find -filename-' error message?

OK, the bottom line is, InDesign crashes and I cannot recover my file. I get a 'Cannot find file' error message when I try to open the file.
I am using CS6 on a MacBookAir, OS X Yosemite.
I have tried finding the 'InDesignFileRecovery' folder, I cannot find it anywhere, it's not in my Library or Caches folder.
However, I do work in dropbox, so I just headed over to dropbox to recover from their 'previous versions'. It starts to get weird. There are lots of previous versions (I save very regularly) but when I download a previous version (that I know was fine) it downloads with a indd.txt extension. So I remove the txt extension and keep the indd and everything looks fine, but then that recovered file gives the same message. I tried renaming the recovered file and opening that, same 'cannot find file' error message.
I can open InDesign and open the file from the day before, but none of the dropbox earlier versions of that day's work. I am SO sick of this happening. It happened to me last week to, so far I have lost 20 hours work :-(
I have tried quitting InDesign and restarting the Mac, doesn't help. The only thing I can think of is to 'save as' every couple of hours, at least then hopefully I only lose 2 hours work.

Thanks, when you say 'hidden by default' then how does one find it? I have already tried the path you mention and there is no sign of a cache folder with Adobe files. Spotlight doesn't reveal anything either.

  • Project Files crashing AE CC with error message "33 :: 7" & "29 :: 12"

I updated my After Effects CC about 19 hours ago to version 12.2.1.
I'm trying to open a project file I had been working on last week and it's causing After Effects to crash.
A number of error messages pop up. Two of the last ones that appear before the program crashes read:
After Effects error: chunk in file too big - probably unsupported file version. ( 33 :: 7 )
    and then
    After Effects error: property of type "ADBEPosition_0"had dimension 8193 in file, but we expected 1 (1d17). ( 29 :: 12 )
Any idea on what those messages mean and what I can do to fix the problem.

Okay, now the autosaved version had problems of its own before AE and my computer both crashed. These were the error messages I received:
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <976> <AsioWDM> <0> The wdm driver appears to have hung, we're going to terminate the callback thread!!
    & then this popped up:
After Effects can't continue: sorry, After Effects has crashed. For After Effects Help and Support, go to http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_ae_support. If you still can't resolve the issue, please contact Adobe Technical Support (2).

  • Can't open project file.... Error messages

    What does this mean:
    NSInvalidArgumentException

and how do I fix it?

First, I don't know. You may want to contact Apple. Second, though, try renaming the file, moving it to a new location, or both.

  • I can't open .pkg files.  i get an error telling me to choose an application to open them.  the Installer app is not in my Utilities folder or in System/Library/CoreServices.

i can't open .pkg files.  i get an error telling me to choose an application to open them.  the Installer app is not in my Utilities folder or in System/Library/CoreServices.

Install the UnArchiver and try again.
    http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver
There is no Installer.app in the Utilities or Applications folder, there is one in the System/Library/CoreServices.
If yours is not there, then you need to:
1: Backup your data off the machine to a non-TimeMachine drive and disconnect all drives.
2: If you have TM, try to restore the Installer.app from the TM drive and reboot. See if things work.
If the above doesn't work, your going to have to re-install just OS X 10.6 (and bundled programs) from the disk by holding c and booting off the 10.6 disk and simply installing OS X. Then software updating to 10.6.8.
This will replace all bundled programs and OS X, not touch your files (backup regardless) and most third party programs.
Some third party programs will have to be reinstalled form original sources because they install Kext files into OS X and thus kicked out by the 10.6 reinstall form disk.
All should go well, however if you boot to a gray screen or other freeze, reboot holding the shift key down, then update all your third party software to be current to 10.6.8.
Another method is to re-install in to CoreServices the Installer.app from the 10.6 disk using the extraction program called Pacifist from CharleSoft, then running software update to get any updates for Installer.app.

Can't open PDF file from iBook on MAC. error "The application “ACDSee Pro” can’t be opened."

    Hi arewers,
Do you have Adobe Reader installed, by any chance? If so, are you aware if it was the PPC or Intel version which you installed? In any case, for the time being, have a quick look in 'HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/' using Finder and see if there's an Adobe plugin lying around. If there is, try moving it out of the folder and restarting Safari.

I can't open the program. I get an error message.

As Pat said, we need to know what program and the text of the error plus some system specs. Those messages are there for a reason, not just for fun.

  • Can't open .aep files created in AE v12.0 in AE 11.0

    Total AE N00b here ...
I downloaded some .aep tutorial files and can't open them in AE CS6 (version 11.0.2.11). When I do, I get the error:
I assume that AE version 12.0x353 is creative cloud?
Is there any way to open newer versions of .aep files in standard CS6 versions of AE?

No, you can't open After Effects CC (12.0) projects in After Effects CS6 (11.0).
You can open an After Effects CC (12.0) project in After Effects CC (12.0) and then use a command to save the file as a version that can be opened by After Effects CS6 (11.0):
File > Save As > Save A Copy As CS6

  • Can't open orf files in Photoshop CS5 with latest updates.

    Hi folks,
I have a user having trouble opening orf files. When the problem was first brought to my attention we couldn't open nef files either. I installed the Adobe Camera Raw plugin and then the nef files could be opened but not the orf files.
Does anyone know why this would be and what can be done to fix the problem?
Thanks for any help you can give.

It may be that the camera is not supported by the camera raw 6.7 plugin for photoshop cs5.
(camera raw 6.7 is the newest camera raw plugin supported by photoshop cs5)
Is camera raw 6.7 the plugin you installed?
    windows

You can look at this list and see if it is

If the camera(s) are not supported by 6.7, then you can use the 8.7 dng converter to convert the files to dng copies, which photoshop cs5 should then be able to open.

  • Can't open .nib files on Intel iMac with IB

I'm trying to edit .nib files for my lab (have had no trouble until now) and they won't open. I keep getting the "can't open" error.
This is my first time trying to edit an x86 based .nib file, is there something different, is there a way around this? I have permission to open them (even tried root).
    Dave

Interface Builder .nibs aren't actually files but are packages. In the Finder, you can Control-click on them and choose "Show Package Contents" to view inside of them.
Inside of a .nib file you save from Interface Builder, you'll find the following files (which are actually files):
    objects.nib (Pre-10.2 nib format)
keyedobjects.nib (10.2 and later nib format)
    classes.nib
    info.nib
The "objects.nib" and "keyedobjects.nib" files are the actual archived objects of your nib, while the "classes.nib" and "info.nib" are secondary files that allow you to open the .nib file in Interface Builder to edit it. Without the "classes.nib" and "info.nib" files inside the .nib, you won't be able to open the .nib in IB, yet the nib will still work properly for the application it's part of. Before releasing an application, some developers will remove the classes.nib and info.nib files from the .nibs in their apps to prevent end users (or their competitors) from being able to open and/or tamper with their nibs in Interface Builder.
Make sure all the parts are inside the nib files and see if they'll open. Otherwise, you might check the Console to see if anything is reported when you try to open the files.
    Hope this helps.....

  • Can't open pdf files in Windows 8 with Acrobat XI

I have windows 8, and Mozilla Thunderbird email client.  When attempting to open PDFs I get this message "Adobe Reader could not open 'Wiring Invoice 409343281 Dated 04_05_2013-2.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried documents from numerous different sources, all with the same result.  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, restarted, etc.  I did not have this issue with XP and Acrobat reader X.   HELP!!  I cannot print invoices until this is corrected....thanks!

    Hi,
Are you try to open PDF file attachments from Mozilla Thunderbird.?
Could you try to save the PDF file locally and then try to open the PDF file?
Or try downloading sample PDF from here http://www.samplepdf.com/sample.pdf and open it in Adobe Reader.

  • Downloaded new upgrade Firefox and now can't open firefox. I get the following error message "Offline Mode Firefox is currently in offline mode and can't browse the web."

The error message says to uncheck the "work offline" menu. Where is the work offline menu?
I have a Imac and Safari works fine.

The work offline option can be found from Firefox button -> Web developer or from the menubar toolbar -> Work offline (Or at least thats what happens in Windows).
Have you any other reason for being offline; router off, firefox not dialing up or whatever. Or is security software or a firewall blocking firefox, or a network connection, or firefox setting etc set wrongly.
