Can't open Airport Utility

I recently upgraded to Leopard from Tiger. My internet connection is fine using the Airport base station that I had no problems with before the upgrade, but I realized there was an issue when I couldn't connect with my printer. When I try to open the Airport Utility, I get the message "You cannot open the application "Airport Utility" because it is not supported on this architecture". What does this mean---what is an "architecture" and how do I get the right one??? Without the Utility, I'm not sure what steps I can take to fix this.
Christy

The Leopard upgrade was part of the Mac Box Set alone with iLife and iWork. The Airport Utility was on my MacBook before the upgrade from Tiger and had been working fine with Tiger. During the Leopard installation, I don't recall any decision to do any different version so I guess I assumed it would stay the same. Where can I get the correct Airport Utility?

  • I can not open Airport utility on my iMac after updating to maverick 10.90.4

I can not open Airport utility on my iMac after updating to maverick 10.9.4 . Error Message:[You can’t use this version of the application “AirPort Utility.app” with this version of OS X. You have "Airport Utility.app"5.4.2] It also will not allow me to install "airport Utility 6.3. Does anybody has a fix for this?

Re-run Software Update and see if there is a newer version of Airport Utility. I suspect your router or iMac may be too old to use Airport Utility 6.3 . As a work- around if Software Update does not work then try reading this article and see if the suggested solution help you.

  • Airport Utility/Time Machine, cannot open Airport Utility

Cannot open Time Machine. I go to set up, Change Disc, click on Time Capsule and notice pops up to enter name and password. There is only space for password, no space for name. When I go to Utilities and click on Airport Utility message pops up "The application Airport Utility quit unexpectedly". Clicked relaunch and same message pops up. How can I open Airport Utility which should then allow me to open Time Machine?

Sorted, it was an issue with the channel on the TC not matching the channel on the router. I manually matched them and now all is good.

  • Can't install Airport Utility 5.6 in OSX 10.7.5

I have a 2005 Airport Extreme that I manage using an iMac running Mac OSX 10.7.5. I recently tried to access my airport to check the IP address. Airport Utility could not access the Airport and told me that I needed to install Airport Utility 5.6 to access the Airport. I installed AU 5.6 and tried to access the Airport, but this time was told that this version of AU does not work with Mac OSX 10.7.5. So I downloaded AU 6.2. On this third attempt to access my Airport, I was told that this version of AU does not work with this Airport  and I need to install version 5.6. I'm stuck. Does anyone have any suggestions (other than buying a new Airport, that is).
    Thanks for the help,
    Paul

Make sure you download it from this URL
AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
It should install without any difficulty.
AU 5.6.1 is for the latest AirPort Base Stations for systems running Snow Leopard.
    NB from the following
AirPort Base Station: How to set up and configure an 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station or AirPort Express in OS X Lion
If you are using OS X Lion and wish to set up or configure an older 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station, or 802.11g AirPort Express, manually download and install AirPort Utility 5.6. AirPort Utility 5.6 can be used to configure earlier 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station, and AirPort Express; it can also be used for 802.11n AirPort base stations.
To obtain and use AirPort Utility 5.6:
    Go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/.
Search for AirPort Utility 5.6 and download it.
Allow AirPort Utility 5.6 to install.
Open AirPort Utility from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
Note: If you are configuring or setting up a newer AirPort Base Stations that support 802.11n, you should use AirPort Utility 1.0 for iOS or AirPort Utility 6.0 for OS X Lion, or later.
You can have both AirPort Utility 6.0 and 5.6 in the /Applications/Utilities folder.
AirPort Utility 5.6 will appear in the /Applications/Utility folder as "AirPort Utility 5.6"
AirPort Utility 6.0 will appear as "AirPort Utility"

  • Unable to open airport utility on Windows 7

I'm unable to open Airport Utility on my Windows 7 laptop because I keep getting an error message saying Airport Utility requires Windows 7 service pack 1 or later.  SP1 was already installed.  I tried deleting and reinstalling SP1 and Airport Utility still won't open.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

This can happen when the Airport Utility installation download can't find an authentication file - short of doing a clean install of Windows 7, try the following:
    1. Delete any old Windows folders if Windows 7 was an upgrade
    2. Turn off anti-virus programs
    3. Turn off the Windows Firewall
    4. Delete any partial installations of the AU that may be present
If the above does not work then try to download the previous version of the AU 5.5.3 at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1391

  • Cannot Open AirPort Utility

When I try to open AirPort Utility, I get a window that says:
You can't open the application "AirPort Utility" because it is not supported on this architectre.
What do I need to do to open this or whats the reason why I cannot open it?

Did you upgrade to Leopard on an Intel processor and import your applications and setting from a PPC processor?
Have you run any optimization software that could have removed the Intel code from an application because you were running a PPC machine?
You can use a program like pacifist to install individual applications from the Leopard DVD.

  • HT4262 where can I find AirPort utility 5.6 - my old Airport express module is not supported by Airport Utility 6.1.  I was directed by the program to this page, but I can not find that application anywhere on Apples's webpages.

Airport 6.1 does not support my Airport module (the second iteration), and tells me to download Airport Utility 5.6.  I can not find it via the directed link from Airport utility 6.1 nor anywhere else on Apple's web site.  It is also not on the App store.
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To install AirPort Utility 5.6 on OS X Lion, follow these steps:
    1. Download AirPort Utility from the Support website > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482 Don't open the installer after downloading that.
    2. Open Terminal and copy:
    cd ~/Downloads && pkgutil --expand ./AirPortUtility56.pkg ~/Downloads/AirPortUtility56 && gunzip -c<./AirPortUtility56/AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg/Payload | sudo tar -C / -xvf - "./Applications/Utilities/AirPort Utility 5.6.app"
    3. Open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, type /Applications/Utilities and open "AirPort Utility 5.6", so you will be able to use your AirPort on Lion

  • HT3728 I only show airport extreme when I open airport utility it used to show both with a green dot somehow only extreme is showing with the green dot

can not figure out why when opening airport utility the green dot with the airport express picture is gone I only see the green dot next to extreme I did not change anything I only clicked on the dot and it was gone

There are three Airport resets, soft, hard and factory default.  It would probably be beneficial if you tried each one in sequence.  Actually, you could jump to the factory default reset if you don't mind reconfiguring from scratch.

  • Ort Express- my network suddenly not showing up. System preferences, advanced/network shows network. Opened Airport Utility options grayed out except configure other but no luck. No set up assistant option to reenter.  Not sure where to go from here?.

    Airport Express.
My network suddenly not showing up.  Openend system preferences/Network & my network is there. When I open Airport Utility, most option are grayed out except "configure other" with no change.  Utility does not provide option for setup assistant where I could just start over.  So no wifi without network set up and can't use ethernet/router to troubleshoot.  I am stuck any assistance helpful.

So I went back to the PC after my original post, and somehow I was able to connect to the AirPort wireless network in the Windows Wireless Network List. Once I did this, it showed up in the AirPort Utility, and I was able to access the internet. I have no idea what fixed the problem, but maybe it was simply a matter of waiting a few minutes before connecting to the network?

  • The network on my airport express works, have wifi on the ipods, etc. But when I open airport utility on my mac and on the iphone nothing exists. Why?

Reboot the modem. Just pull the power for a few seconds. No settings are lost.  The laptop getting through to the internet is not relevent.

  • Would using a Apple Time Capsules be easier to use as you can use the Airport Utility to set everything up? Would using encryption affect the speed / durability / life span of the drive in a computer or Time Capsule?

Would using a Apple Time Capsules be easier to use as you can use the Airport Utility to set everything up?
OR would there be better programs out there that would do more than Airport Utility on a non Apple drive?
Would using encryption affect the speed / durability / life span of the drive / Fusion drive in a computer or Time Capsule?

    1. Time Capsules are the easiest device to setup for Time Machine.
    2. Sorry this is unclear. There are a huge number of routers available that have far superior controls than apple routers.. some support Time Machine.. most don't. They negate your question 1. in being difficult to setup. And alot of 3rd party devices that claim Time Machine compatibility are unreliable.
    3. Encryption is irrelevant.

  • Why can't I open Airport Utility?

Why won't it let me run application, AirPort Utility? Message says "You can't open the application 'AirPort Utility' because it is not supported on this architecture. I have a macbook running Leopard version 10.5.4. Please help! Thanks!

What version of OS X is installed on the machine? Maybe you need to reinstall OS X and then update to 10.5.5 via the combo updater.

  • Can't open AirPort Admin Utility configuration file

I'm using an AirPort Extreme Base Station connected to a cable modem through the WAN port and to my G4 Cube running OSX 10.2.8 through the LAN port. I also use an iBook and eMac with AirPort cards to wirelessly access my network. My problem is that I can not open the configuration file so that I can change my settings. I get an error message that AirPort Admin Utility can't read the configuration file of the base station. I tried resetting the base station to the factory settings, to no avail. So now I also can't set a password and encryption. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

To clarify--I previously had a password protected network set up and working. I wanted to change the settings and couldn't open the config file. I reset to factory settings successfully, but still can't open the config file, which I need to do in order to encrypt and set a new password. Thanks!

  • TS1589 when I open airport utility it performs a scan and then say it can not detect a wireless device.  The rest of the screen is blank; all menus are blanked out.  What do I do?

I just replaced our wireless modem with a new one; our airport extreme is now flashing amber light.  When I get into airport utility it attempts to scan for the device but can not detect it.  The utility screen is blank - nothing to select or configure.  The menus are also blank.  What do I need to do?

  • Can't open airport utilities

Having trouble opening airport utilities to check AExtreme issues. It continues to unsucessfully scan for wireless networks, when I am only using it as a wired router. (I was never able to get wireless internet connection working. Also could not connect wifi with my pc in same room.)

Why Airport Utilities can't detect Airport Extreme?
Likely because you do not have the password needed to connect to the wireless network signal that the AirPort Extreme is providing.
You need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme to get it back to factory specs, so AirPort Utility can find it.
