Can't Open an Excel File

I just started trying out the trial version of RoboHelp and
I'm using WebHelp to create my help file.
In one of my topics I have a word document that lists on call
information. I then have a link from a name
on that list to open up an Excel spreadsheet (I highlighted
the text, then Insert Hyperlink).
I then: Save, Generate Primary Layout, then View Results.
That opens up the htm file (helpfile.htm).
My spreadsheet link is there (its at least underlined), but
you can't click it.
Assuming I'm explaining all of this good enough
any suggestions on what I'm screwing up?
If you need any more info, just let me know.
Thanks
Doug

Ok,
First Rick.
When I get to the box where the choice of skins are, right
above it, the choices are:
Section 508 Compliant Output
W3C Compliant Topics
I double checked RoboHelps Help...and it says Robohelp for
Word 6, Build 99.
Colum...
Here's what I did (I 'thought', I'd start off simple, lol)...
1. Start Robo.
2. Select New Project.
3. The left panel contains all of the folders (I think its
called Explorer).
The right panel is the default Helpfile word document that
contains the 'welcome' message.
4. I added my spreadsheet to the Baggage folder.
5. Back at the word document, I just added a simple word
'excel'.
6. Then I highlighted 'excel', Insert->Hyperlink...and
pointed it to my excel spreadsheet.
7. Saved it.
8. Generated it.
Everything opens up fine in IE. Excel is highlighted blue and
underlined. But its not clickable.

  • Can't open any excel files after installing Snow Leopard

I can't open any excel files after installing Snow Leopard. Is anyone else having this problem?
I have a standard iWork '08 install. Has anyone experienced? And better yet, know of a fix?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Most users who have had a problem opening Office files with the iWork apps after upgrading to Snow Leopard have the problem fixed by updating to the latest versions. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. I don't use Keynote, but it should also be updated. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

  • Office 2013 can't open word, excel files from the network after upgrade to 8.1

    Hello,
Recently, I upgraded all PCs from WIN 8 to Win 8.1. After the upgrade I noticed that I can't open any word documents and excel files. Before the upgraded I have no problem opened any files. All PCs have over 500GB free space on hard drive. Other PCs that
run Win 7 have no problem open them only the one with Win 8.1. This is what I got:
I right click--> property and there is no unblocked. All files resided on the network server.
    Please help.
    Jimmy

    Hi Jimmy,
Did you get any error message when you try to open an Excel file/Word document?
If so, you can post the error message and  event log here. Also ,if you had antivirus software installed, try to disable them to test this issue.
In addition, what happens if you add the network server location as a trusted location?

  • Downloaded latest version of Firefox and now can't open any Excel files

The problem started right after I downloaded the latest version of Firefox (4?). When I try to open my Excel files I get a Windows error message and then it says that Excel can not find the file.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • Can't open any Excel files.

When I double click on an Excel icon to open a spreadsheet, Excel open to a blank page.
Once I have Excel open, I can search for the file from within the programme and it opens fine. If I then do a "save as", and try to re-open the file from the desktop location, it still will not open.
This has happened since installing Office 365
    What do I do now??

    Hi ErickWB,
I agree with Michiel’s suggestion, and we can also try the methods below.
    1. Try uncheck the Ignore Other Applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE).
Click File > Options > Advanced > General Section > Tick the option "Ignore other application that use Dynamic Data Exchange"
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/211494/
    2. Choose Run and enter Excel.exe /regserver
This will cause Excel to start up, re-register all of its registry keys, then quit. Now, try opening your Excel files.

    Hi Alex,
The trick to this whole thing is to scroll to the bottom of the message. There should be a dashed line at the bottom of the email message with text underneath it that says, "This message was downloaded as plain text." Underneath that it should say (in blue hyperlink text) "Download full message". Select that hyperlink, and the Excel file should download completely. You should then be able to select the document and have it open correctly.
I have had the same concern regardless of file format that is sent, so I do not believe your issue is with file format. Hope this helps.
I've seen the same thing happen with images, which it displays in a corrupted form. It's fixed by downloading the full message.
There's a more serious side effect of this, which I've now seen with several types of files. If one FORWARDS the email to someone else, the attached files it sends them are CORRUPTED and unopenable too. In the case of a Word files I looked at, it had dropped the last two bytes of the file.
The workaround for that is to download the full message before forwarding.
I'm seeing this happening with so many types of attachments that I'm assuming it affects them all. Please everyone report this to Apple feedback (http://www.apple.com/feedback/). It's one thing not being able to open a file on your device, it's another to have files corrupted permanently just by forwarding.

  • Can I open a excel file from labview

I have a program who write temperature in a excel file and i want to open this file from labview .

This depends slightly on the amount of data you have stored within Excel.
You can use the "Labview Functions>>FileIO>>Read from Spreadsheet file.vi" which effectively reads all lines from a text file and converts it into a numeric array.
Alternatively, if your data structure in Excel is more complex than this, you can use ActiveX calls to Excel to retrieve it.
Use an "ActiveX>>Automation Refnum" control and select the Excel server class. This will then enable you to access properties and methods of Excel to retrieve data from specific cells and pages.
    The attached example should help.

  • Can't open my Excel file in Excel 2013

Hi there. I've just been working with an Excel sheet and saved it, and now I can open it again. It's stuck on 10%. I've reinstalled the whole Office package (Office Home & Student 2013) but that doesn't change anything. Also not the DDE
check/uncheck makes any difference. How can I make it work so I'm able to open my sheet?

    Hi,
Is this an issue with this specific Excel worksheet, or any Excel files in your computer? Are you able to start Excel application directly (without launching any Excel files)?
If you can start the application, please try to open the file from FILE>Open>Computer and verify result.
If it's only an issue with this specific worksheet, you might need to check and see if you have any macro, VBA code in this sheet which might fail to load.

  • I can't open any excel file it say's not enough memory everything else works. Thanks

I have no clue on what is going on with my computer can anyone help?

How many programs do you have open. Usually your machine will use the disk as scratch memory, but your program may be needing internal memory and it may not be able to address it. Close some programs backwards as to how you opened them and see if you can free some memory. If you still have a problem, I would close everything and restart opening that program first. Jerry

  • How to open an excel file on my ipad from dropbox

How can I open an excel file on my ipad from dropbox using numbers?

You are asking about Numbers for iOS in a forum dedicated to Numbers for OS X.
As most of us aren’t using this app, it would be more efficient to ask in the dedicated forum (link below).

I´m trying to open an excel file in numbers not being successful. The error msg is unexpectedly error using plugin SFCompatibility can you help me? Already changed the extension of the excel document to xlsx an now gives an unknown import error.

In Excel have you tried saving directly to xls (not xlsx) and opening the xls in Numbers?
If you have a complicated workbook in Excel that uses lots of Excel's advanced features, Numbers may not be able to handle the import.  It does pretty well on basic things, though.
If you're just trying to get data into Numbers, then often copy-paste from Excel is easier than trying to open xls files.

Where do you state that you need to email the files to someone else?
Where do you state that you need to edit them?
    This was my response ....
You can't edit any of these files without a compatible iPad app like Documents to Go (Excel, Word) or Pages (Word files).
You can open and view the files as mail attachments but you will not be able to edit them. Explain exactly what you are doing and maybe you can get meaningful instructions.
Basically I said the same thing as Julian and I thought that maybe if you explained EXACTLY what you were trying to do, it would be helpful.
Sorry for not being a mind reader. Your second post ...
I thought I had already explained, I get excel spreadsheets emailed to me I need to open them, read them, edit them and send them on to another person,
That is not what you asked the first time around.

  • Why does TDM Importer start up when I open an Excel file in LabVIEW, and how can I stop it?

I have a new application using LabVIEW 2012 SP1.  I open an Excel file using the Report Generation toolkit and when I do so, a small TDM Importer window pops up on top of the Excel file.
    How can I prevent this?

    Hi Steve,
The TDM Importer pops up because the report generated in LabVIEW is in the TDMS file format.  TDMS is a binary file that requires an importer to make sense of the binary data and translate it into an Excel spreadsheet.  As per this white paper, the appearance of the floating toolbar is expected behavior:  http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5874/en/
To the best of my knowledge, you cannot get rid of the floating toolbar unless you uninstall the add-in, in which case you probably would not be able to open your LabVIEW-generated reports.  However, as of Excel 2007, the toolbar is embedded in the "Add-Ins" tab instead of floating on your spreadsheet.  You can see how the toolbar looks as of Excel 2007 in step 6 of this white paper:  http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5885/en/
If there is a way to embed the toolbar in Excel 2003, it would be the exact same way you would embed any other floating customer toolbar in Excel.  In other words, I don't think this has anything to do with the fact that it's NI's add-in.  This is just the way Excel 2003 and earlier treats add-in toolbars.  Someone on these forums may well know a way to embed it (perhaps a macro?), but you may have better luck contacting Microsoft.  I'm not sure whether it's even possible for a user to embed the toolbar.
