Can't open any files from File Menu on applications

Hi There
I currently cannot open any files using the <File> <Open> of the drop down menu on any of my software (Illustrator, Photshop, Excell, Word) The only one that's currently working is Preview.
I can open the programs ok but they all crash as soon as I do <file> <open>
I can double click on document icons on the desktop, the program opens ok but I cannot save any changes to documents.
Can anyone help please?

I can't open any programs or files and if I click on the Safari tab it disappears from the dock. I've tried rebooting with no joy.
I contacted technical help at Apple and was told to hold down the ctrl and alt keys with two other keys, I think the S or P keys when powering up. This worked
and the computer seemed fine but now the problem has reappeared. Is there a way to removed downloaded updates from the computer or revert it to an earlier state?   Sorry for the long question. Hopefully one of you clever people can help.   Simon

It's always good to go with one thing at a time and stay focused on that. Let's start with the OS you're running. Click on the Apple menu > About This Mac. What does it say under Mac OS X version ?

Since buying Pages 5.2 can't open any Pages 09 files

Since purchasing and updating to Pages 5.2 I can't open any Pages 09 files. Tried various things, nothing working.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

I can't open any of my files

i can't open any of my files after transfering the files from my macbook pro... help...

What happens when you try to open the files? (Any error messages?) What kind of files are they? For example, if they are Word documents, do you have Word (Office) installed on the new Mac?

I can't open any 60p .mov files in quicktime. Footage was shot on a JVC GY HM150 which is supposed to record in native fcp format. Any ideas how I can open these files successfully?

i can't open any documents (word, excel, jpeg etc)from documents to go it says: "there is no application to open this document"
what should i do....i've just deleted the documents to go from my Handheld cause i got frustated already...

I am trying to open a pdf file through documents to go on my Centro (verizon). I received a this message: An unexpected error occured! Error number: 0x7371803.
What does this mean?
I saw on another thread there is a palm pdf software that works. I went to the site; it said this program is not compatitable with Centro. Has anyone else found a workaround or another program?
Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
The error could be caused by the particular file you are trying to open, the way it was created, etc. Have you tried opening other .pdf documents?

Satellite A60: Can't open any programs from the CD Rom

I have a problem when trying to open any program from the CD rom, the computer runs a Windows Explorer message every time
which says there is a fault and has to close down. I have run the computer through every virus program going and i have all the Microsoft updates from there website. Has anyone got any further ideas what the problem could be.

Well, strange issue. Maybe its something wrong with the CD rom?
The best idea is to recover this unit with the delivered Recovery CD but firstly you can try to remove the CD rom device from the Device Manager. After OS booting the drive will be recognized again. If the problem persists after this procedure I would recommend to recover the unit.

Have installed maverick and now can't open any new pdf files from internet. I can open old ones

I have just installed Maverick. When I use Safari and try and open a Pdf file from a webpage I get a black screen and tells me to download Adobe. I have reinstalled adobe reader but still don't get anywhere. I can open any pdf files I have previously stored or have in downloads or in documents. Any one any ideas what i need to do?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
          Allow Plug-ins
Then click
          Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

Can't Open any non-code files from "Local" site list

Dreamweaver 8. . .
When attempting to open any file type from the local file list (.pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, .mdb, etc.), I get a "Can't find a valid editor for this file extension". I can browse to the application and open it that way, but it doesn't remember this info and I have to do that every time I want to open a local file.
.php, .htm, etc. open just fine in the Dreamweaver editor but there seems to be no associations built from/to the local library. I can open files from Windows Explorer directly without problems.
Any suggestions?

Can't open any online PDF files since I installed Snow Leopard.

I now have MacOSX 10.6.8 installed in my MacBook Pro and I'm unable to view any online PDF files using Safari 5.1 or Firefox 5.01. I have submitted this problem to both Firefox and Safari without success. Does anyone have this problem?

As Office for Mac doesn't include Access, I'm not at all sure you can.
You could try Open Office, NeoOffice or Libre Office (all free, open source) and see if their database applications can do it.

Safari version?
1. System Preferences > Flash Player > Advanced > Delete All
     Press the "Delete All" button
     Install Adobe Flash Player.
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
   Download it first. Click Safari in the menubar and select “Quit Safari”.
    Follow the prompts and install it.
    Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
2. Allow Plug-ins
    Safari > Preferences > Security
    Plug ins
    Enable it
or
    Internet Plug-ins > "Allow plug-ins"
    Enable it.

    Press the button “ Remove All Website Data”.

Finder Keeps crashing when opening any folders from file menu

I believed this happened after installing Mavericks.
The finder keeps crashing when attemtping to open a file in any application from the file menu.
I can open the same files by directly going to finder and opening file directly format or 'open with' > choose program.
No other functions have been affected since install.

Strangely enough Maverick crashed and sent report a cple of days after this post.
The system rebooted itself but quoted an unexpected operation had caused it to close down. I can't remember the exact blurb.
Since then it seems to have reset my browsing habits with the finder. So far it has been stable.
If I have any more problems I will get back to you.

Can not open excell template from reviewer menu

Dear expert,
i was trying to use a reviewer menu, but when i try to make menu to open an excell template i get this message "You are not authorized to use this action."
- i have setting the owner and reviewer properties on the entity dimension
- i have add the user to all access at the task profile so it have all security access
and for some test when i make menu to add comment on the reviewer menu, it works well
is there any idea for this problem i can try?

Did you setup BPF access security when you set up BPF?
You need to set it as well as Task security.
Based on your comment, Task security looks because some BPF works.
Please check it first.

Well, I would still try it out on another network to perhaps isolate the issue to your own home Wi-Fi network. It nothing else, head to Settings -> Safari and clear out the cache, history, and cookies. Then reset your device by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Once you are connected to Wi-Fi again, try logging into those email accounts.
