  • Can't open Appstore on MacBook after upgrading to Maverick

    Hi All,
After upgrading my MacBook to OS X 10.9.3 I can't open App Store, Calendar, and Line that I have installed.
Your kindly help will be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks,

The latest update available is v10.9.4. Is that what you meant?

  • Started a Pages project on my MacBook Pro, edited it on my iPad Air, went back to MacBook and now can't open it on MacBook. What can I try?

When I try to open it on MacBook it says this:

    Found the answer.
I had not closed/saved what I was working on, on the iPad before the battery died.
I plugged in the iPad, saved/closed the article I was working on and that solved the entire problem.
    It's now working well.

  • Can't open AOL Mail with Firefox, but can open AOL website. Have to use Internet Exp. to get into mail. Help!

Have always been able to get into AOL Mail, until recently; last 2 - 3 days. Can get into AOL website, just not mail. No problem with any other websites. Have to get to mail using Internet Explorer, and I hate Internet Exp. What has happened and how do I fix it? I tried reloading Mozilla Firefox, but that did not help.

Hi--I tried your suggestion and no dice. A window came up with the following:The item 'Firefox.exe' that has this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete?
Another window said 'C:Program files (x86) Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe' specified in the target box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct.
I have no clue as to what that means. I did delete the shortcut.
Finally went into our Kaspersky virus protection and found Firefox is in quarantine and that is probably why I am unable to uninstall and reinstall.
    Any ideas????
    Thanks, Ginny

I was updating OS X Update 10.9.2 and it told me to restart.  I closed all applications including Mail.  When I try to restart now, it says to quit Mail.  But, now I can't open Mail, much less quit it.
    What should do?

Try the Force Quit function from the Apple menu to quit Mail.

  • Can't open programs on MacBook

    AAA!
I'm a recent convert to Mac from PC. I know my way around a PC pretty well and it's very frustrating because I feel like a little kindegartner trying to use my new MacBook! I'm not even sure what OS I have, or even how to figure that out! I think I've got the Leopard or something, but i'm not sure what the corresponding numbers are.
My main problem is that I cannot open any programs that did not come pre-installed on my MacBook. That means that I cannot open any of the Microsoft Office programs I installed. I have tried double clicking, right clicking and hitting Open, etc. Anything I could think of, I have tried! All I get is the icon doing the little bouncy thing and then NOTHING! What is going on here? How do I fix it?
Also, I have a Maxtor OneTouch USB external drive that I want to use to back up my MacBook. I have some files on there that I saved from my PC that I need to delete to make room for the clone of my hard drive. However, when I open the Maxtor hard drive in the finder, I don't get the option to move anything to trash. Is it because I saved the files there from my PC??? I don't understand why the Maxtor is like that because I also have a WD Passport and I can do anything I want with the files on that one, even though all that stuff was saved from my PC. I wish I could just use the WD Passport for the backup, but it's not big enough to handle it.
Can anyone help the poor Mac newbie? Thanks!

Click blue apple on your top left corner of screen > about this mac > if it said MAc OS X version 10.4.x, then you are using Tiger (since Leopard is not in the market yet, unless you got second hand macbook that installed 10.5.x from beta version or developer conference event.

Did you installed it properly using correct CD (and usually it should be in application folder if you installed it correctly). Which office you tried to install there, for PC version office cannot be installed on macbook (unless you using XP on parallel or bootcamp).

Could be your external was formatted using NTFS format which become read only on macbook / OS X. You should re-format that as FAT32 using your PC or ms-dos system (same FAT32) using OS X disk utility: application/utilities/disk utility/click your external/erase/ file system: ms-dos system.
    Good Luck

  • Can't open iPhoto on MacBook. no error message. click on icon, doesn't respond. 10.7.5 version and '08 iPhoto version

IPhoto not responding when I click on icon.. No error messages, just won't open. Tried to open in system preferences did not work.
I am not computer savey, so only tried re-booting. Can you help? Thank you

Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots  and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • How can I open Adobe Bridge CS6 in high resolution on my MacBook Pro Retina display?

How can I open Adobe Bridge CS6 in high resolution on my MacBook Pro Retina display? When I click Get Info, the "Open in Low Resolution" box is marked and locked. How can I unmark this box? I currently run 10.9.1. I can open Adobe Photoshop CS6 in high resolution without any problem. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There is no such thing. In CS6 only PS itself is Retina compatible. You would have to use CC for full Retina support.

  • Can't open Skype at all on Macbook Pro

I have been struggling with Skype for a long time on my Macbook Pro and wondered if anyone has any advice. When I try to open the application, it crashes immediately before I can even log in. This has been the behaviour for several versions of Skype now, so I am starting to think there is something on my machine which conflicts with it and the problem will not be solved by waiting for a future release of Skype.
Currently it is failing with version 6.0.60.2496 of Skype (downloaded today) on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.8.2. The machine is a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM, purchased in 2009. Exactly the same problem occurred in Lion, before I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
I have tried a number of steps to solve the problem, including:
    * Removing the /skype folder from /Library/Application Support and the preference file from Preferences, uninstalling Skype, restarting in Safe Mode, downloading it again, installing and trying to open it
    * Changing the settings in Text to Speech to a different voice
    * Downloading an older version of Skype and trying to run that
Everything crashes instantly every time and I am unable to use Skype at all.
Skype support have told me there's nothing further they can suggest and they think it may be a conflict with my System fonts, but I am desperate for any advice from someone who has encountered (and hopefully solved!) a similar problem.
Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Hi Katherine,
You'll need to save it to a different format to use it on a Mac. If you can still open them on the HP, that would probably be the easiest. Save them as a Mac compatible format such as .mpg. If that doesn't work, here is a converter you can try: http://www.squared5.com/

There are some keyboard commands (shortcuts) you can use instead of having to go to the Apple menu -
Control-Eject          This brings up the Restart-Sleep-Cancel-Shutdown window.
Command-Option-Eject          This puts the machine to sleep.
Command-Control-Eject          This closes all apps and restarts the machine.

Lion 10.7.5 is as far as you can go. You must have at least 2 GBs of installed RAM.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. Or you can order directly on the online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Can't open documents created in Pages with macBook pro running maverick

    Hello,
I just bought the new MacBook Pro and downloaded iWork.  Now when I create a document in Pages and save it to Documents, I can't open it.  I get an error messages saying a file is missing.  Also, all my old documents created with Pages that I transfered from my old MacBook won't open.  It says file too old, need to save to Pages 09.
Tried opening the old documents in Pages 08 and saving them, but still can't open them.
    Any suggestions?

Further to my earlier post about this problem, our IT man came in to the office, by coincidence, so I grabbed him and it seems that he has cracked it.
You need to proceed as follows :
Select the document by single click on the icon (i.e. select it but don't double click which will try to open it.)
Go to File Menu and chose "Get Info"
Half way down the drop down menu, chose "Open with" then select Pages 4.0 (i.e. the iWorks 9 version)
This process will open that particular iWorks 8 document.
But, if you also tick the "Change All" box it means that opening with the new version of Pages will become the default and will apply to all iWork 8 documents so you should not need to bother with this ever again.
So far, that seems to work.
(One might have thought it would have been a good idea for Apple to have built this in as a default ?)

That is Pages for iPad v2.0, which Pages '09 v4.3 can't read.
You need to either stick with the older version of Pages on the iPad or get Pages 5 for the Mac which is only available if you are running OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
Unfortunately that is not the end of your woes because Apple has made iCloud convert the files to Pages 5 now, and Pages 5 has over 90 features deleted on top of doing a shocking job of converting older Pages files.
