Can't open application because it is not supported on this architecture?
Ok so i was gonna get snow leopard tomorrow and wanted to do a clean install and i backed up all my apps, music, movies, dmgs, textfiles, pictures and games none of them work? they all say the same thing and they are only like 1kb but before i formatted and back up it was bigger even now my hardrive has 100gb taken but the software etc. is only 1kb? then i called apple and it turned out my apple care crap has expired and that i had to pay $40 wow how loyal and i said no then they called me to come here what the ****? so please why is my stuff like this. but previously all apps worked. plus when i try to dray pictures movies or songs they turn into this weird blue usb icon thing then when i try to start it says it is a alias?
im on 10.5.4, intel, and my hardrive is ntfs
please help me guys i cant lose all my data.
I think many would agree that your post is incomprehensible.
From what I CAN gather, you backed up your data and apps and formatted your hard disc - yes?
I assume you did not check the backup before formatting, otherwise you'd have seen that your files weren't actually backed-up...
It seems as if you "backed-up" (copied or created) aliases of your files, rather than the files themselves.
There are applications which could attempt to recover your lost data - search for "data recovery".
For the future, be more careful about what and how you back up, and try to be less hasty with your writing too, understanding your questions will help people answer them.
BTW, what's the connection between the subject of your post and its content?

Cant open application because it is not supported on this architecture??
the graphics processor on my computer broke so i had to pull files off using the firewire system to connect two computers and when i went to open the address book this appeared "cant open application address book because it is not supported on this architecture". is there any way around this?? thank you.
You copied the Address Book application (which is not where your addresses are stored) from an older system to a newer one, or vice versa. So now it won't run. You'll need to reinstall the system on that machine, or restore Address Book and any other apps you replaced from a backup.

Message you can't open safari because it is not supported on this type of Mac
Any help on the message on a Macbook pro with 10.9. Getting message you can't open safari because it is not supported on this type of Mac. and did a update.
Are you trying to launch the copy of Safari in the Applications folder? If so, select it and open the Info window. What is the Version? If you have any other copies of Safari, delete them.

Firefox can't open the application "because it is not supported on this architecture
"You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture."
Thanks for the link to the system requirements, edmeister. However, my system appears to fit every requirements listed, but still gives the same error message.
Here is what my system profiler tells me about my Imac:
Mac OS X v. 10.5.8
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, which Wikipedia tells me is "x86" processor
3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
My Activity Monitor says:
1.87 GB of my system memory free
303 GB of hard disk space free
Is there some explanation why I am being told Firefox 4 is not being supported on this architecture? -

My computer is not allowing me to utilize any version of Firefox, after multiple downloading attempts. I simply get a message that Firefox is not supported on this architecture, and the Firefox icon in my toolbar now has a circle on it with a line through it (Canceled). I hope that someone can explain what I need to do to be able to use Firefox once again. Thank you, TC
As you have a PPC or Power Mac the last release form Mozilla to work on PPC is Firefox 3.6.*
Firefox 3.6.23 can be found at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Since you have a PPC Mac there is this third-party option for Firefox 7.0.1 at
http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
As of Firefox 4.0, a '''Intel''' Mac with OSX 10.5+ is required for Firefox builds from Mozilla. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0.1/system-requirements/ -
I've read your recommended work around, that said to trash all previous versions of Firefox, I've done so and now have no browser other than Safari.
Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do NOT have; '''''yours is a PPC Mac''''') '''''<u>and</u>''''' OSX 10.5 or higher.
*System Requirements: [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/4.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 4] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/5.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 5] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/6.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 6] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 7] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/8.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 8] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/9.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 9]
'''''The good news''''' is that Firefox 3.6.x still supports OSX 10.4 and Macs with the PPC Mac architecture. '''''The bad news''''' is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.
*System requirements: [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/3.6/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 3.6.x]
*Download Firefox 3.6.x: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
*Also see --> http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Mac
You can try the third-party product '''''TenFourFox''''' that supports PPC Macs with OSX 10.4.11 and OSX 10.5.8. Firefox 9 version of '''''TenFourFox''''' is available. The product is based on Firefox released versions. All support is provided by the developer, not by this site:

Message: can't open iphoto because it is not supported on this type of MAC.
hi
When I put a disc in the Mac after a short time it is throne out.
Any advice?
TaThere are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
How does this disk relate to iPhoto? -

A day or two ago I went through installing Adobe InDesign CS4 on Leopard OS X.5.8. After what appears to be a successful installati
on, in launching InDesign CS4 the message " You can't open the application "Adobe InDesign CS4" because it is not supported on this
architecture" comes up". Calling in to support and speaking with the agent who read through previous posts, suggested to me that I
should try the same fix that has been suggested when I ran across an error when installing Adobe InDesign CS4 on another separate ha
rd drive externally connected to this computer running Snow Leopard OS X.6.1 for the error reading: "Damaged &/or incomplete install
ation" when launching afterwards. The support technician told me to first delete with the uninstall Adobe InDesign CS4, InDesign.
Following this I am told to run the CS4 Cleanup Utility. I restart the computer each and every time after running each of the utili
ties. Now I am told to install InDesign as a trial version from the DVD and after installation to go ahead & enter the serial numbe
r. When launching InDesign CS4 after installation got back the same error as before: "You can't open the application "Adobe InDesig
n CS4" because it is not supported on this architecture" comes up". Followed KB404711 article and no success. What else can be don
e to fix this issue?
This morning contacted Adobe Support regarding this response:
After having a detailed reserach on your issue i acme to the conclusion
that the problem you are having is not related to Adobe software but its
in fact related to your MAC version ( OSX-5.8). While reseraching your
issue i came across
to many forums where a lot of postings were about the similar error but
with different products the only comon thing was all the Errors were
with Mac machine , also when you check the system requirements for
Adobe Indesign Cs4
by going to the following link
http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/systemreqs/?promoid=DRHXE you
will find the Mac OS version supported are from Mac OS X
v10.4.11–10.5.4. but we do support Snow Leoprad , so i would like
to advise to you to either contact your system manufacturer or upgrade
to Snow Leopard ( mac os x 10.6)
I have been told that my case is being sent to Level 2 agents and that it can take 24-48 hours for a response. In the meantime I decided to see what the Support Forums can do for me. Until then I am down. Thanks for the help.In the application folder there is a folder 'Adobe InDesign CS4' within which there is just the application file. I would expect there should be more file there??
I've un-installed and installed again - still the same.
Even downloaded the dmg again and done thwe whole thing over again. -
I just got a notice to update my firefox to 4.0 and when I downloaded the new software it indicated: that I can't open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture. Any ideas about what might be wrong and how to fix it?
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html -
I have a big crossbar mark over my FF4 icon after I've installed and replaced FF3. When I try to open the software, I get "You can't open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture." What's up with that?
