Can't open apps in mountain lion

i need to upgrade some software or apps since i downloaded mountain lion, however, i have no problem downloading them, i just cant open them.
mountain lion refuses to open any app or software i did not download from the app store. here is what the pop up tells me when i try to open  them
"Machacha cant be opened because its from an unidentified developer.
your security pref. only allow installation of ONLY apps from the mac app store
and identified developers."
this aint gonna work for me, i need to download new software or apps elswhere to make things
work again for me.
any advice? i went to security pref. but saw nothing that would uncheck to let me proceed.
thank you
tom

this helped me solve my problem but in a different way. i downloaded mountain this morning and after trying your advice, there is nothing called "gatekeeper" installed on my mac.
a spotlight search turned up nothing but a description of what a gatekeepers job was.
doing it your way i found i could control click the app and open it that way, gatekeeper was nowhere to be found in system pref. security tab.
thanks for your help, but now im confused that im missing something from my download and i wonder
what else did not download.
thank you again
tom

  • Can't open iCalendar in Mountain Lion

When I try to open iCalendar in Mountain Lion "Calendar Cache" couldn't be moved because you don't have permission to access "Calendars"
comes up.  Further directions don't work.

I'm not sure what you mean by "iCalendar".
The current Mountain Lion app supplied by Apple is called "Calendar".  The old app had been called "iCal".
So iCal is now gone.  If you're talking about that, I don't know what to say.
If you're talking about Calendar, then I suggest running Disk Utility (in Applications > Utilities) and do a "Repair Permissions" on your hard drive.

  • Can't open Safari with Mountain Lion

REcently installed Mountain Lion. Currently running OS X 10.7.5.
When I try to open Safari (usually use Chrome), I get error saying check developer to make sure Safari works with the version of Mac OS X.
Don't know how to uninstall Safari.  What now?  Thanks.

Try > Apple > Software Update...
If that does update Safari, go to > Apple - Support - Safari

  • Can't Open ASDM in Mountain Lion

I'm trying to launch ASDM 6.4(5) for the first time to access our company's firewall, but I can't launch it. My manager has no problem, but he's on 10.7 and Java 6. I'm on Java 7. When I Run ASDM, a Java 7 splash screen pops up and never goes away. So I downgraded to JAVA 6 and still can't open it. When I Run ASDM, nothing happens this time. It asks me to trust the certificate, but after I click Trust is when nothing happens.
I've looked through Google quite a bit for answers but nothing seems to be helping. This is my first run at using ASDM so I'm not sure what's going on.
    Help please!

So this was weird, after I completely uninstalled Java I tried looking for a Java 6 update 43 version to install but couldn't find one anywhere. I somehow found update 29 though. After I downloaded it, I wasn't allowed to install it because apparently it said I had a more updated version of Java. I checked and it said Java 6.43.
So I download Pacifist to allow me to extract and install 6.29. I was then able to launch it successfully from the browser and now I can open the application fine. I'm wondering if it will work fine with 6.43 now. Anyone by chance know where I can find it? I can no longer find it. I'd like to try that and if it doesn't work just go back to 6.29.

Don't be afraid to bump this topic. There's also an App Store forum where you might repost this question, but give some of these details in your post.  I'd rephrase the topic to something like "Can't use App Store to upgrade." (Instead of can't "open".) Then give the details.

My time machine backup disc has apps from Mountain Lion that won't open now that I have Yosemite.  They all say need to be upgraded to Yosemite. Go to app store. But app store sees that I have yosemite so doesn't even show me an udate option. How can Update these files??

How do you know they won't run in Yosemite? You're not trying to fiddle with stuff in your backup from the Finder, are you? If so you are likely to render that backup unusable.
WHen when you restore them from your backup, they should be updateable.

  • Regarding new Reminder app in Mountain Lion:  is there a away to sort reminders by due date in the same fashion you can in the iCloud version of Reminders?

Regarding new Reminder app in Mountain Lion:  is there a way to sort reminders in due date order in the same fashion as you can in the iCloud version of Reminders?

So true! I have to agree: "It appears Reminders in 10.8 did not get a whole lot of thought put into it regarding how folks actually use reminders."
With Mountain Lion, Reminders no longer resembles a task-management (to-do) app in any way. I used to be able to limp along using it for my to-dos (although it never did accommodate this need well). This upgrade has made Reminders completely unusable for task management.
Once I got over my disappointment, I did some research and decided to try "Things." This application has all the functionality I've been wanting all along. It has a Mac version, an iPhone version, and an iPad version (among others)--and it keeps all devices synched via the Cloud (just not the iCloud ... but who needs the i ?). I wish I'd discovered it years ago. I'm glad now that Mountain Lion put Reminders over the edge; otherwise, I would not have made this discovery.
"Things" (oddly named though it is) comes close to the old Franklin planner software I used to love and haven't been able to find a substitute for. It can import items from Reminders, and it works with Siri. It's a joy to use, and it does everything I want it to do plus some things I never thought of and will use all the time. I downloaded the free trial version last night and within an hour paid for it with gratitude.

  • I can't open App Store in my OSX Lion

Hi there, hope anyone can help
I can't open App Store in my OSX Lion. The icon somehow changed to some kind of plain paper.
Every time I open it, it comes to the dock, bouncing, but then gone and App Store is not open.
There is no notification window or something like that. I did not change anything, it just changes itself somehow.
    Anyone have similar experience?
    Hope someone can help me.
    Thank you so much

You need to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to restore OS X.
That will reinstall the App Store for you.

  • Which apps can import tasks/reminders from Mountain Lion?

Hi, in Mountain Lion, I can change tasks only in small screen of 2*2"and need another program. So, I need a new app. I have 200 tasks to export from Mountain Lion to new app, so which efficiency app can 1) Import tasks from Mountain Lion. 2) is great to work with. 3) and has an attractive price. 4) and works with I cloud and I phone as well. For example Wunderlist can not import yet. Thanks a lot.

Does it need to work with iCloud specifically, or work with "the" cloud?
Things can import tasks from Reminders if you have them in a specific list that you specify.  It has iOS apps as well.

  • How to enable logging for mail.app in Mountain Lion

I am at my wits end trying to figure this out....
Does anyone have a clue how to enable the logging for mail.app under Mountain Lion?
In the past, you could open up Console and click on Console.log and see the logging of mail. Under mountain Lion, there is no more console.log. I cannot figure out how to enable it.
I have tried to run the AppleScript of "Turn On Logging" but the script errors out under Mountain Lion.
Does anyone know how to do this or a better way, maybe a tool or something that can help you troubleshoot mail.app issues?
    Thanks in advanced

    Hello,
I have a similar problem. The script "Turn on Logging.scpt" runs without error, but I do not see any socket logging. I only get two messages, which I also get when I start mail without the script by just clicking the mail.app icon in the dock. The Messages are:
    1/10/13 3:43:32.618 PM Mail[11276]: Using V2 Layout
1/10/13 3:43:36.388 PM Mail[11276]: *** -[IADomainCache init]: IA domains cache is out of date.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • Can I download and use Mountain Lion without Lion downloaded first

Can i download and use Mountain Lion if I haven't downloaded Lion yet?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion from Mac OS X Snow Leopard or OS X Lion, so you can install Mountain Lion without having OS X Lion.
Just open App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. If you aren't using Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you have to buy it. Don't forget to make a backup with Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner before upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion. Also, check if your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • If I upgrade my leopard computer to snow leopard via an old update disc, can I then upgrade to Mountain Lion for the $20 deal?

If I upgrade my leopard computer to snow leopard via an old update disc, can I then upgrade to Mountain Lion for the $20 deal?

Yes, provided  your computer meets the system requirements and you have updated Snow Leopard to 10.6.8:
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    I would also read this:
    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
As an alternative to the above you can try using Lion DiskMaker 2.0 that automates the process.

In "purchases" while in my App Store, Mountain Lion says, "an error has occurred" and the green 'download' button is grey and I cannot re-start the download. I was abroad when I purchased this app and during download, my internet connection was lost. At the time, Apple was still offering the e-chat, so I did that and the man was very helpful and it was a quick fix, so my download button turned green again, and I was able to begin the download. BUT during the download, I was kicked offline once again, and I decided to wait until I was back in the USA. I will go in to an Apple store and ask assistance, but if there is something I am missing, I'd like to try that first. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I checked @ http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/features.html#reminders and it says under Multi Accounts: "Reminders works with CalDAV services like Google Calendar and Yahoo! Calendar. You can also create reminders that appear only on your Mac."
