Can't open bookmarks in new tab

About ten days ago, I stopped being able to open bookmarks in a new tab. In fact, if I right click them at all, I get a tiny gray box. It goes away with a reset, but if I try to install any of my old add-ons (even ones I install newly) it comes back. I've looked for programs installed, but I can't find anything that would have caused this.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

  • Is there an option to left click and open a bookmark in the same tab and right click to open bookmark in new tab?

I want to be able to open bookmarks in the same window without having to right click and then select open. I would like it to be like internet explorer where you have the option to open a bookmark in the same tab or new tab. I had downloaded an add on that solved the problem with a simple right click to open in new tab and left click to open in same tab. This makes things soooo much easier. Am I missing an add on or a configuration where I can solve this problem. Thanks for your time.

Very, very, very confusing!!!!! Exactly which is it that you want to do????? Left-click = same tab or left-click = new tab????
    Your initial subject line:
'''''Is there an option to <u>left click and open a bookmark in the same tab</u> and <u>right click to open bookmark in new tab</u>?'''''
    Your last post (3rd post):
'''''Is there a way I can <u>left click and automatically open a bookmark in a new tab</u>...'''''
'''''''''...rather than having to left click and then select "open in new tab."'''''''''
Right-click, '''<u>not left-click</u>''', has the "Open in new tab option".
Easy answer is listed in my initial reply; left-click, same tab; middle-click, new tab!
    What are your Extensions?
    -List them.
-You obviously set up some extension with some kind of conflict.
To find out which Extension is causing the problem, <u>'''enable one-at-a-time'''</u>, restart Firefox for the change to take effect (File > Restart Firefox), test. When the problem re-appears, you know the extension causing the problem.

  • How to open bookmarks in new tabs?

The arrival of real extensions and other improvements are tempting me to switch from Firefox to Safari as my main browser. But tab management is one factor that has kept me Foxy. Apart from not yet having extensions as cool and smart as Tab Mix Plus and Colorful Tabs, Safari has always bugged me by making it tricky to open a Bookmarks link or a Bookmarks Bar link in a new tab. I realize that I can hold down the Command key to open a bookmark in a new tab, or I can right-click a Bookmark Bar item to open it ina new tab, but is there any way around this rigamarole? It's now possible to automatcally open new pages in tabs rather than windows via Safari Preferences; why can't I do the same with bookmarked links. The assumption that I'm finished with the tab I'm using and want it to be replaced by the bookmark link is ***-backwards. I want to close tabs myself, and I don't want open tabs snuffed out by default by something I'm not controlling. So is there any around the new-tabs limitation? I want to believe in Safari, but this little bit of interface fascism really bugs me.

Glims is a useful utility with some nice tab options, but it doesn't provide what I'm looking for: the ability to open bookmarks and Bookmarks Bar items in new tabs by default, rather that have them hijack and body-snatch the current active tab.
I've still been unable to find any way to make this happen in Safari. It should be an option like it is in Firefox.

  • Opening Bookmarks in new Tab

    Hi There,
I am a new user and love the tabs function.
However how do I open a bookmark in a new tab. Currently, when I click on a bookmark it opens in the existing tab.
    Thanks
    AppleMark1

Hi AppleMark1 and welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you go to 'Safari' in the Menu Bar, then Preferences (or Command ,) and select the 'Tabs' tab you will see the various ways that new tabs or windows are created when links (or bookmarks) are clicked.
Generally speaking links (and therefore bookmarks) are encoded to open in the same window. Some are encoded to open in a new window, some (fewer) are encoded to open in a new tab.
If you want links and bookmarks to open in a new tab just hold down the Command (or Apple) key when clicking.
    Have fun,
    Adrian

  • Open All in Tabs, opens bookmarks in new tabs and leaves current tab open instead of changing to the first bookmark

Whenever I click the "Open All in Tabs", it opens all the bookmarks in new tabs instead of opening the first bookmark in the current tab and the rest in new tabs.
happens on all 3 of my computers running 8.0a1

This isn't possible anymore, due to the fact that this Boolean entry has been removed: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395024
    <br />
In my Firefox Aurora 8.0a2 (Windows 7, but Ubuntu 10.10 as well) the current behaviour could be described as follows: <br />
    Open all in tabs
<ul><li>Normal click: opens all in new tabs, changes focus to first one opened;</li>
<li>Ctrl + click: opens all in new tabs, changes focus to first one opened;</li>
<li>Shift + click: opens all in new window, changes focus to first one (tab) opened;</li>
<li>Ctrl + Shift + click: opens all in new tabs, doesn't change focus.</li></ul>
    <br />
Whereas I would like it to be as follows: <br />
    Open all in tabs
<ul><li>Normal click: opens all but the first one (which overwrites current) in new tabs, doesn't change focus (due to the fact that the first item is already in the focused tab); in short, it changes the currently focused to the first item from the folder and appends its' rest on the right side;</li>
<li>Ctrl + click: opens all in new tabs, doesn't change focus;</li>
<li>Shift + click: opens all in new window, changes focus to the first one (tab) opened;</li>
<li>Ctrl + Shift: opens all in new tabs, doesn't change focus.</li></ul>
    <br />
This behaviour was present a few versions ago and only lately have I looked for the solution to this. I encountered many bug files regarding this topic with people speaking against Firefox's behaviour that would close existing tabs when opening all in new tabs (from a folder), which possibly influenced the change that I would like to be reverted.
    <br />
Please let me know if it is possible to attain the behaviour I described.

  • Can't open images in new tabs.

Using middle mouse or right clicking the image and selecting open in new tab asks if I want to open the image with some program or save the image. If I select firefox and try opening the image with it, the image is downloaded into my temp folder creating a blank download tab and then another tab is created when firefox opens the image from the folder (even the image address is the address of my temp folder and not the image url). I just want to open images in new tabs.
I should note that this does not happen with all images and I can't figure out why it sometimes happens and sometimes it doesn't.

There are a list of options when I right click on an image. Many of the ones you have described are options in the list of this image. Some web pages have links associated with the images that you can click on, therefore the option to only open the image location url is not always consistent.
"Copy image location" and pasting it into a new window is consistent, but adds an extra step. It is also possible to customize shortcuts and make one that behaves the way you want it with [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/customizable-shortcuts/ Customizable shortcuts add on]

  • I can't open links in new tabs, only in new windows.

I can't open any links in new tabs without holding the link and dragging it to the tag menu or opening a blank new tab and copying the link location and pasting it in the new tab.
ctrl+click which should open a new tab opens a new window.
Right click + Open Link in New Tab which should open a new tab open a new window.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Safari tabs - Can I open links in new tabs (with no key pressed)??

I am a heavy FF user and one of the most important feature I use is the tabbed browsing. The problem with Safari is, it does not allow me to set a default option to open all links (that i click) in new tabs rather than windows. There is a clear cut option available in the preferences pane of safari but that does not work. I don't want to press any button to open a link in a new tab.
Note: I know about "Merge all windows" option. But that is also one extra step right?

I'm running 10.4.11 and when I right click on a link I have the option (in the menu) to select 'Open Link in New Tab'.
    Is that missing on 10.5.2?
    Tom

  • Can't drag bookmarks into new tab page

Every time I try to drag and drop a bookmark into the new tab page, it opens the web page in that tab instead of adding it to the square. I've tried it on safe mode as well with the same results. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated.

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''

  • Firefox won't open bookmarks in new tabs any more

I've been using Firefox with Tab Mix Plus under Fedora Linux for a long time. Suddenly, if I right-click on a bookmark and select Open in New Tab, nothing happens. I've tried using the keyboard shortcut but it doesn't do any good. However, if I rght-click on a link I can open it in a new tab.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Middle-Clicking not opening Bookmarks in New Tab

Windows 7 just did an update that included a new mouse driver, and now, middle clicking on an entry in my Bookmarks menu does nothing, instead of opening the bookmark in a new tab. There's no driver rollback available, and no driver at the mouse's maker's website (Logitech M-100 Optical Mouse)
Middle Click still opens links in the open page in tabs as normal.

Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • I can't open up a new tab by clicking on it

Since yesterday, when I click on a new tab, it doesn't open.
Sometimes a new site I enter in the browser window will open up in the same tab I was in just before this - and sometimes a new tab will open.

  • How do I stop firefox from switching to new tab when opening bookmarks in new tab

When I open a link in a new tab it does not switch to it automatically. I had to reinstall firefox to stop it from switching to new tabs automatically since the option being unticked didn't stop it from happening anyway. Now only when I open a bookmard in a new tab it still switches to the new tab and I do not want it to. Why is it doing this with the option unchecked and a fresh install with no add ons of any sort? And how do I make it stop?

Try to set the Boolean pref <b>browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground</b> to <i>true</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
