Can't open copy of iMovie '11 project

I am trying to open iMovie '11 projects that were sent to me on a hard drive. Even though I have the project files and the event folders with the event files in them, etc. I cannot open the projects because they were not exported by iMovie but rather copied using FInder. Is there any hope of accessing them?

If the projects were originally in the Home/Movies/iMovie Projects and Home/Movies/iMovie Events respectively on the other Mac, there is a chance you could move them to the corresponding folders on your Mac and they might work. At that point, you could use iMovie to move them where you like. If they used photos or music in the project, they would probably be missing,

Can't Open Any Old iMovie 08 Projects

Recently all the projects I was working on in iMovie 08 disappeared. Today I found the files but when I click on it, it opens the new project I just started, not the project I'm clicking. I tried importing the files back in but it's grayed out. What's going on? Any ideas how I can get back those projects?

Neither is there when I open iMovie. iMovie 8 created a new folder "imovie" in my Movie folder. Within that I have two folders "iMovie Events" and "iMovie Projects" with all my old folders. I also have a two separate folders "iMovie Events" and "iMovie Projects" with my new project contained inside. It's very strange. I don't think I did any updates in the past few weeks. I just was to access those old projects.

I can't open iPhoto after iMovie 10.0.3 update with message:
iPhoto is being updated
iPhoto can not be opened while it is being updated.
But problem is, that nothing idicate there is some iPhoto update.
Please help Apple.

I don't understand why first update has almost 2GB and there is also second update which has around 300MB, so I can see two iMovie updates in App Store - Updates.

Got an error message "You can't open the application iMovie because it may be damaged or incomplete" What do I do next to try to fix? Thanks.

Judging by your OSX, I presume that your iMac would have come with 2 installation discs.
iMovie and all the iLife software will be on disc 2.
Run the disc and re-install iMovie.
After that, do a software update.,

I can not open ITunes in IMovie 11?

I can not open ITunes in IMovie 11.I have a Mac book pro with IMovie 09 and I hvae no problems. It satrted when I upgraded to IMovie 11. Please help.

Over time I've come across a number of posts concerning iTunes for Windows not opening. IMovie 7.1.1 and 10.5.3 - can't open existing or create new projects

Is anyone experiencing the same problems as me since upgrading?
I saved an iMovie project yesterday evening but today (following updating to 10.5.3) when I open iMovie all the options under File (except for Import from Camera) are grayed out - I can't open yesterday's project or create new ones.
I've restarted, etc. Any help would be appreciated as I'm under some serious time constraints.

Not much help I know but I've not had any issues after the X.5.3 update. Have you repaired permissions after your update. I repaired permissions and carried out several other maintenance routines immediately before performing the update and then repaired permissions again after the update.

Can anyone help? Imported iMovie HD projects seem screwed up

I have imported video from iMovie HD into 08, and HELP! In one case. the clips don't play, and the titles seem to have disappeared. In another the clips play, but sometimes with the wrng sound, and again the titles have gone.
(Oh, and be careful: if you import video into iMovie 08 and then erase the original copy (which you may need to do if you are not going to overfill your hard-drive), any iDVD projects that use the video content will become useless.)

Navigate to your iMovie HD project in the Finder. Control-click the project icon to open the "contextual menu options." Select "Show Package Contents" to see the files/folders contained in the project package. Open the "Shared Movie" folder. Inside you should see an "iDVD" folder. Opening it you will find the "Project_filename.mov" that represents the currently saved contents of the the project's timeline to include titles, transitions, effects, etc. (This is the data that would normally be sent to iDVD if you were going to burn a DVD of your finished project.) Simply copy the file to another location or HDD so it can be imported in its entirety to iMovie '08.
NOTE: Never tried moving/removing this file from the package as I thought it might have the potential to corrupt the iMovie HD project and am in the habit of working from work/backup files in case there is ever a problem. (I.e., just don't like restarting from scratch if I can avoid it.)

Can't open final cut studio 2 project in final cut pro 5.0.4

My color corrector has the new Final Cut Studio 2. I still have version 5.0.4
I can't open the project file he returned to me. I'm guessing its because we have different versions. 5.0.4 is the latest patch for me, right?
Furthermore, a friend of mine has final cut studio 2 and opened the project for me. He exported an xml file and told me i should be able to import that and view the project file. When I open it all the media files are offline.
Do I HAVE to upgrade to Final Cut studio 2 to be able to view these project files?

Reconnect the offline media and life should be good.
Still, the best solution is for everyone involved with the project to be using the same version of FCP/Color.

Can you open a Final Cut Pro project file (6.0.6) in Final Cut Express (v4)

I am working on a project in Final Cut Pro (v 6.0.6) and I need to pass it off to a colleague who only has Final Cut Express (v 4). The media in the project is DVNTSC.
I went to the Apple store at the Stonestown Mall in San Francisco today and they assured me that my colleague would be able to open my FCP project file in his FCE program... but I'm skeptical.
Can you really open a FCP project file in FCE?
Could somebody who has both confirm this for me?

Under very rare circumstances can you open an FCP project in FCE. It almost never works and is not supported by Apple.

Can´t open copied domain file

I am new to this forum.
I have built a website and want to move it from one workstation to another.
Both have Iweb 2009.
the station I built the website on has OS 10.6.2
the station I am copying to has 10.5.8
Once I have copied the domain file, notice the file size is less than the original file.
When it is on the destination work station I get a message "can´t open file".
I have zipped it, then copied it, always the same.
I hope it is not the OS difference that is causing the problem.

What do you mean by a version 10.6.3? Are you referring to a computer running that version? Is it the same domain file? It could be that in copying over to the second computer there was some permission issues or such. Or problems with the preference file on that machine. Files created with System 10.5 will open with 10.6.
Is the iWeb version on the computer you've having problems with the same as the one that created the file? If the version is less than the original then iWeb won't open it, i.e. iWeb 2 can't open iWeb 3 domain files.
If that's not the case Try the following:
1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
4 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.
If that doesn't help continue:
5 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
6 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
7 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
8 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
9 - launch iWeb and try again.

Can't open/copy/move/delete PDF's that were redacted

So I showed an attorney how to redact in Adobe 9 Pro, and I don't know what he did, but the files are on the network and I can't open them, copy/paste, move, or delete them.
He contends he didn't save them in any special way, but I'm stumped

that's what I'm thinking now, although I find it odd that it's just the files he worked on that are doing it.
I used the file menu to look at the properties, and the properties are pretty much blank outside of the filename.
guy probably didn't let the save finish when he was done.

Can I open my final cut express projects in final cut pro X?

I need to get footage out of some of my final cut express projects and put them in final cut pro X, which I am now using. How do I do that?

You can export any movie from FCE to Quicktime, and use it in FCP X. If you export using ProRes 422 codec it will already optimized for FCP X.
What you can't do is use the FCE projects themselves in FCP X.

Can I open Motion 5.1.2 projects in Motion 5.0?

I'm working on a system that has motion 5.1 installed and I'm going to continue to work on a system that has 5.0 installed tomorrow. I was wondering if I'll have any issues opening my 5.1 project in 5.0? The only reason I ask is because I'm opening a motion 5.0 project in 5.1 and it's asking me to "save as" a new project.

Yes... 5.0 is a previous version to 5.1. It is not likely you will be able to open your project in 5.0. It is highly recommended that you upgrade the 5.0.x version. It's a free upgrade. The only downside to upgrading is people with older versions of FCPX will not be able to run the newer version template in FCPX. It's been a real pain that Apple hasn't kept "versioning" between FCPX and Motion with similar numberings. However, FCPX is only compatible with Motions templates from versions that are *concurrent* with a particular version of FCPX, or older (if that makes any sense to you.) FCPX has maintained compatibility with all templates from previous versions of Motion 5.

AP crash - can't open/copy/backup project

Hi,
got a disaster here:
Aperture crash while I was making selections. I was able to open Aperture once, all it did was recovering smart albums, but it would not show any files at all. The project has all masterfiles included. I tried to copy the whole project to another harddrive - but it just stops. I had to pul the power plug on the HD to get at least the finder back.
I believe that there is a corrupt file inside the package. How can I find it? What else can I do? I have not tried to open the project again - would like to get a backup first.
I did all "normal fixes" like repair permissions and repair disk - there were no problems.
One more hint, when I try to copy the project to another Harddrive I'm not able to eject the harddrive - I have to pul the plug to get at least the finder back.
Any ideas?? Can anyone help me?
