Can't open & create event in iCal

I used to be able to open & create an event in iCal. But, the last time I sync'd my iphone & macbook it asked me which event was correct. I clicked on the one on the right and haven't been able to view or create on macbook since (can open & create event on iphone).

What do you see when you click on the Event? Also can you see the photos in the Photo mode? In the Photos mode do you have Event Titles selected in the View menu so they display? That will let you find the event you want and see if you can see the photos there.
Try the basic fix first: close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

I was just experiencing this problem on Mountain Lion. The calendar I wanted to delete was on iCloud. So, I logged into iCloud from a web browser, and selected Calendar. On the current incarnation of iCloud Calendar the calendars are listed on the left. I selected the "Edit" link at the top of that list and chose delete. It indicated that the items would be deleted, but there was nothing about notifications. Then, when I went back to iCal on my Mac, I selected the calendar to be deleted, right clicked, and slected refresh...
... gone.
It probably would have disappeared on it's own eventually. I'd be curious to see if theis works for others, so please confirm.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

How can I move an event in ical to another calendar without ical resending the event invite to everyone

I have 2 microsoft exchange calendars that I use for work. One is provided by my company, the other is provided by a customer that I do contract work for. The customer prefers to send invites to my email address provided to me by them. Which means that the invite appears on the exchange calendar provided to me by the customer.
That's fine, but I would like for the event to appear on my work calendar so that I can get reminders on my iphone (long story short, the customer does not allow me to connect to their exchange server via my iphone due to security reasons).
So, I go into iCal, open the event and change the calendar for the event. Unfortunately, that causes iCal to resend the invite to everyone involved in the event. This causes alot of confusion, obviously, as now everyone is wanting to know why I sent an invite for an event that is already scheduled.
How can I move events to another calendar without iCal sending another invite to everyone?

If you change anything in a repeating calendar entry it will give you the option of disconnecting it from the series. So may any random change, choose to not change the series.

How to create events in iCal

I know we can create events (like birthdays, anniversary etc.) from address book and sync it with iCal. What i want to know is how do I create an event (b'day, anniversary etc.) for a person who is not in my address book.

maybe someone can help me with the following scenario.
I synchronize my Sony Ericsson cellphone via iSync to iCal. Afer installing new software on my cellphone, all data got lost (of course). As I wanted to synchronize my data to the cellphone again, I realised, that only birthday events are displayed in my iCal. I can't find my events, even I do a search. The weird thing ist, that iSync can synchronize my events, although the events are not in iCal??? Can anybody explain this to me? Where are my events?
Is it possible, that there is a relation to migration to leopard? Well, this happened shortly afert leopard was released, but maybe I didn't realise it, because I use iCal only for backup my cellphone data. And I can see events from 2007, for example.
The other thing is, that events sometimes get lost. But one step after another ...

thanks for your answer. I've tried it once again, because I had to set up my cellphone once again. At this time, the cellphone calendar and ical were empty. I did a synchronisation via isync. My events are in my cellphone calendar now!!!?
Before I did the synchronisation, I added a few events to my ical. These were not synchrinized!!! These events are in ical now, but not in my cellphone. It's weird.
Is there a possibility of a second ical-library or such?

I installed an update and now I can't open App Store or iCal.

I installed an update, but now when I try to open App Store or iCal, I get this error message:
"App Store cannot be opened because of a problem.

I've tried restarting the computer, and I read that removing the programs from your dock and then putting them back could fix it, but neither worked. What's wrong and how do I make it work?

Same problem here. In fact, it started when I installed Mac OS 10.8.1. Since, everything was working super slow. Tried all the tricks that I've read here but nothing worked.
Had to restore my whole Mac from Time Machine. Then everything started to work smoothly except for one thing: App Store cannot open anymore. So I can't install the new Mac OS 10.8.2.
I've downloaded it from Apple, but it won't install. It says Mac 10.8.2 failed due to an error.
I just don't know what to do. So far, Mac OS 10.8.1 has been a giant nightmare to me. I'm a graphic designer who works on Macs for years and years so it's not that I don't know how it works.
I'm hopeless now.

When I have been working in Photoshop for a while I suddenly can't open or create documents, I only get an error message in Swedish meaning: Cannot fulfil your request due to a program error. Same phrase appears when trying to mount an object, linked or embedded doesn't matter.

That is a well know bug in MacOS 10.10, that Apple is aware of and working to solve.
Basically the Open dialog on MacOS 10.10 has problems that can throw odd error messages back into the host application. Sometimes it throws a string (like the NSArray error), sometimes it throws just an unknown exception (which Photoshop displays as "program error").
Some people have had luck avoiding the problem by changing the view in the OS open/save dialog to something else (icons, list, etc.).
Opening files by double clicking or dragging to the Photoshop icon works and avoids the OS issues in the open/save dialogs.

Can't open/create new project

Hi!
I don't use GarageBand a lot and I don't understand what happened to my Application.
When I try to open or create a new project, the pictures from "Podcast" and "Movie" (at the start up screen) don't show up. If a try to select one of them even though, a message pops up and says:
"Can't open the file because the format doesn't seem correct"
"The file seems damaged, incomplete or in an other format"
(Might be different, I translated from French)
I tried installing the Apple Loops since it seems they were missing but that didn't change anything...
If I open from one of the models everything seems to work correctly (blues, funk, jazz etc).
I tried reinstalling Garageband from the CD but my computer doesn't let me, should I delete the older version before doing so?!

Pages 5.5.2, Mac OS X 10.10.2
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
Really frustrating issue I'm having here. I was editing a document in Pages, and when I went to drag and drop a picture into the document the whole thing crapped out.
Here are the main issues:
• Main window refuses to display contents. Editing window is entirely transparent (though still closable by clicking where the X button is normally located). New document window is an empty black box. Again, this window remains 'functional'. I can choose a template blind to create a new document, but I can't see or edit the doc.
• Opened the 'About Pages' window to get the version number, and oddly even this window is bugging out for me and is not closable.
• Force quitting the app works. It's the only way I can restart or shutdown my computer as quitting the app normally just results in an endless hang.
Stuff I've tried:
• Force quitting and restarting/Force quitting and shutting down
• Repairing disk permissions.
• Deleting the Pages plist file in Library
• Deleting and re-downloading and reinstalling the app
Here are some screenshots. In the first you can see the blacked out 'New Document' window. In the second, you can see the completely transparent and non-editable document window.

Can't search for events in iCal

I always thought that I could search for an event in iCal by typing a text into the Search space and then would get a list of all events with that text; at least that's what I think did happen in the past.
If I do that now, no matter which text I type I do get a table with Date, Type, and Title below the calendarr, but with no events listed in it. ??? Did I inadvertently change some settings which prevent events to be listed?
Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Are you saying that the search in iCal (Leopard) will only work when Spotlight has indexed your computer and the iCal events box is checked? That means that iCal is not searching independently of Spotlight, but really it is using the "Spotlight" index/database?
Was this true in TIGER? - I just started my PBG4 which is TIGER and the seach is quick - includes everything if nothing requested. OK it has SpotLight, too-- if I UNtick Events & To Do items in TIGER will I then have no search ability in iCal??? (I guess I could try that and the re-tick it later??)
My MB with Leopard is actually updating right now, and says it has 5 hours left - since I added my HD to the list then removed it (to get it to generate a new index). So in 5 hours I can re-test to see if iCal can search (and find something!) --in Leopard.
Would be great to have a true LIST along with the DAY-WEEK-MONTH tabs in iCal-- we have that with my iPod Touch-- OK it's LIST - DAY - MONTH on the iPod - no "week" but I prefer that to what I have now on the iCal 3.0.6 (Leopard).
Comments welcome - and my little ALARM icon/notifier on the event itself is GONE in iCal Leopard- used to like that in 2.0.5 - could see which events had alarms and see if I'd forgotten to set one. How to get THAT back???

FCPX Says Can't open duplicate event.... but it's not a duplicate?

Hi there, I'm trying to open an FCPX event that I moved to an external harddrive. After moving the event folder, I deleted the original event from my internal drive.
When I try to open the event from the external drive, FCPX Gives me the error warning saying that the event " is already open with the same identifier as..... (so the) the second document cannot be opened..." The directory path it gives for the "duplicate" events is exactly the same. It's considering the same file as a duplicate of itself.
I cannot open the Event. I have also tried opening from backup, as well as moving the backup folder out of the event folder in case it thought that was the duplicate. I have also trashed preferences.
Another odd thing: The project linked to the Event in question is opening fine. All media is connected. But the Event is not showing up at all in the Library in FCPX.
Any thoughts here? Thanks for your help!

You are right to suspect that first, however, there are no other drive connected to my computer when this error comes up, and I have triple checked that the event is not on the eternal.
Besides, reading the warning message, it says that it is looking at a file in the exact same directory as the file it claims is the duplicate..... hmm.... mystery.

Can't edit new event in ical since snow loepard

I'm not realy good in english but i make my best, so sorry for bizzare contents. 2 days ago i install snow loepard on the macbook of my girlfriend and now some applications have problems. in ical we can't edit events... We c'ant create a new event but we can't change de title. The line apears block. It's weard because we can change the hour or other things, but not the title... somebody have the same problem? i look on the forum and i see nothing like this or answer for resolve the problem...

I fixed the problem. On another thread about a related iCal problem, someone thought there was a font issue causing the problem.
First, I removed iCal from the dock.
Second, I opened Macintosh HD, then opened Applications, then opened Font Book.
Third, in the Font Book window I selected All Fonts, and from the menu I selected "Select Duplicate Fonts."
Fourth, in the Font Book window, rather than just disabling the duplicate fonts, I moved all the duplicate fonts one by one to the Trash.
Fifth, I emptied the Trash and restarted the computer.
Sixth, I opened iCal from the Applications list (and selected "Keep in Dock").
Now, the iCal is working fine and I'm able to edit the event title.
