Can't open documents from icloud

I have Iworks 09 and have it installed on 3 macbooks. on the 2 macbook pro's it works fine but on the macbook air i can't seem to use versions or open/safe documents to the cloud. I checked the cloud setting and everything is as it should be.

I went to icloud, but the Pages doc will not open
Won't open on what device? You cannot open a document directly from iCloud on a Mac running Lion or earlier. You will have to go to iCloud.com in a web browswer & download the file to the Mac and then open it.

Pages tells me I need to upgrade to 5.0 to open documents from iCloud, but the mac app store says its already installed and won't let me upgrade.  when I check the version of pages I am running it says 4.3.  I just want to be able to open documents on my mac that were created on my iPad.  How can i get Pages 5.0?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You already have got Pages 5.0, but you still have got Pages 4.3, so Pages 4.3 is being opened instead of the newest version, being this the reason why you get a message telling you to update Pages to the most recent version.
If you don't need the old version, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete the old Pages icon or move it to an external drive. I don't recommend you to do this, as users are complaining about the lack of features of the new version.
Instead, what you can do is to put the new Pages icon in the Dock by dragging it from the Finder window to the Dock, so you can open the new Pages version from the Dock and you can open all your documents with it after opening the application

  • Can't open files from iCloud Drive on Mac

    Hi,
Can't open file from iCloud Drive on my MacBook Air (OS X 10.10.1).
I created new file (in Numbers for example). Then Numbers->File->Open->iCloud Drive->my_file.numbers and it says "Can't open file my_file.numbers".
I can preview the file by pressing Space, but openning from application and double-click on it doesn't work.
Files that were created earlear also not opened.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem? thanks.

    Using smtp.mail.me.com - also tried smtp.me.com
    SSL yes
    port 587
    SMTP Authentification Yes
Security SLS/TLS - also tried STARTTLS
User full **@me.com email address - also tried user name without @me.com
I have spoken to apple support this afternoon and we tried the variations shown above.
Support told me to wait for a day and try again!
After the iCloud authentication problem last night I changed all my passwords I wonder if there is an SMTP problem at me.com perhaps not reading the updated passwords?
I'll try and use the old passwords later.

  • Can't open documents in iCloud

I am suddenly unable to open any iWork documents stored in iCloud on My Mac.  (This is true for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) Every time I try, I get an error message saying "The file "filename" could not be opened."
Pages (and Numbers and Keynote) are up-to-date on both my Mac and on my iPad.  I can access the documents from my iPad, and I can download them from iCloud.com and then work on them on my Mac, but I cannot open the iCloud copies directily.
I've made sure that I'm working with the new versions of iWork apps, not the '09 version that are still on my Mac.
This seems to have started with the latest round of updates to the iWork apps, but I could be wrong about the timing.
Any ideas about how to solve this?

Pages 5.01 will not open Pages 5.1 files and people are reporting that Pages 5.1 will on occassion not open its own files.
Currently nobody has a clue what to do about it except: Don't touch Pages with a bargepole!
    Use your previous iWork apps.

  • How can I access documents from iCloud on my iPad.

how can I download docs from icloud drive on my iPad and edit them on ipad.

    Hello Kalsulkar,
To use iCloud Drive and to work with documents, you will need the corresponding Pages, Keynote and Numbers iOS apps or third party iOS apps that support iCloud Drive to interact with those documents. To access the content, you would need to open one of those apps to see all the documents that are available to you for that specific app. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Can't Open Documents From Finder

Sorry- the topic title is a little deceiving. I wasn't quite sure where this issue would go because really it's an issue I'm having with Word.
Word doesn't seem to want to open ANY documents. Every time I try, it stops responding and I have to Force Quit. I don't think it's a problem with the documents themselves because TextEdit can still open them. Also, I know that Word installed properly because it's been opening documents fine for two years-- this only started a couple of days ago. Ordinarily I'd simply reinstall, but I don't have the disk. Word won't open documents from Finder, or after I launch and select open from the options. It also won't open any downloads.
Any suggestions as to what's going on and how I should fix this would be much appreciated. (Also, if you could tell me where this topic SHOULD be, that would also be appreciated).

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Choose a doc and command-i (Get Info) Be sure "Open With" it says, MS Word. If not then choose it and click on Use this app to open all files like this"

  • Pages won't open documents from iCloud

I have a bunch of documents in icloud.  I can open them on my iPad, but I cannot open them on my MBP.  I get an error message simply saying Pages cannot open the document.  This is a brand new MBP running Mountain Lion.

I've encountered this issue a couple of times with Pages 5.1. You try to open a document you've been previously working on that's saved in iCloud, and almost instantly Pages says it can't open the document.
I logged into iCloud and confirmed the document was there are editable with iCloud Pages beta.
You'll find you can create a new document, save it to iCloud, but be unable to open it. Likewise, you can rename and duplicate documents in iCloud using Pages, but still it won't open anything.
Before you get too carried away signing out of iCloud, or deleting folders and what not as I've seen suggested, restart your computer to see if that fixes the problem.
In my case this worked, and effectively, your computer is signing out of iCloud, then signing back in when you restart.
There could be many reasons aside from the obvious bug in Pages as to why this might occur. Are you signed in on two different user accounts using the same iCloud account, as is frequently the situation with me, as I have a work user and home user on my MBP.
Is your wireless connection a little unreliable. You might be able to browse, but the signal strength might be too low to interact with iCloud reliably.
In any event, the good old "turn it off, then turn it on again" fixed the problem for me. Try that first as it's the least destructive.

  • Mess with accounts in OneNote and OneDrive for Business - can't open documents from Office 365

    Hello!
    [Reposted from
    here]
I've got Office 365 subscription (E3) with Office.
I can view and edit OneNote notebooks on Office 365 via browser, but can't open it in OneNote.
The similar problem exists for OneDrive for Business - some libraries are syncing, some cannot - asking for Enter credentials, but when I click - nothing happens.
There were two accounts bound to Office 2013 - personal Microsoft ID as primary account and corporate Office 365 linked to it.
Windows 8.1 corporate profile is linked to Microsoft ID account as well.
Something happen with these accounts after password was changed - it seems like some account information was cached and can't be cleaned.
I tried to uninstall Office and install it - no success.
    I cleaned computer with
this utility from Support - no luck.
On other Windows 8.1 computer I created new profile (with Microsoft ID account) - surprise, there are problems there as well.
I deleted all Office15 entries from Credentials Manager - Office asked me about Office 365 login/password - I entered them, it is syncing, Haliluja, but, when Microsoft ID account was linked to Office 365 account in Office - problem appears again.
It seems that Office 2013 uses Microsoft ID credentials for Office 365 content.
I'd like to use Microsoft ID as primary account for Office and link Office 365 account to it, but don't want such problems. It worked fine, but I don't know what happened and how it can be analyzed and fixed.
Update: It seems I localized the problem, but still don't know the solution.
Scenario to reproduce error for me:
    1. Create fresh new Corporate/Domain user profile on Windows 8.1 with Office Pro 365 installed on computer with latest updates
    2. Go to SharePoint Online and browse some Libraries and OneNote notebooks - all ok
    3. Start to sync them using OneNote and OneDrive for Business - ok
    4. Link Microsoft Account with Corporate Account in Windows 8.1 - ok
    5. Syncing of _some_ (not all) Office 365 libraries and notebooks stop working - errors with access, permissions. I'm trying to enter credentials but this doesn't help
    6. Disconnect Microsoft Account and Reboot - all libraries and notebooks of Office 365 work fine again. But OneNote notebooks from OneDrive stop working :)
How I can fix this situation and have Microsoft and Corporate account connected?

    Update 2:
I installed PowerShell for SharePoint online cmdlets and found this user using get-SPOUser.
I removed this user using remove-SPOUser -site
    https://mysitename.sharepoint.com -LoginName
    [email protected]
but when I'm trying to access sharepoint from the browser with Microsoft account credentials - new record for this user is created again and I can see it with get-SPOUser :(
So, problem is still not solved - this user is still can be authenticated (there is no such user in SharePoint site collection, there is no such user profile) and Office 2013 syncing doesn't work for Office 365 due this mess with accounts.
I know that I can remove Sharing with external users from Site Collection and information about these users will be permanently deleted - but I don't want to do this, there are several customers who work with our documents.

  • Cannot open document from iCloud anymore

    Hello:
When trying to open a document I edited last week, this morning Pages for iCloud refuses to open the document on my mac. The document is simply grayed out. I can use the menu to duplicate it, which then results in an error: The operation can’t be completed because an item is being modified.
On the iPhone I cannot open it either.
Using icloud.com beta it's also impossible to open, the app will tell me: "You need a newer version of Pages for iCloud to open this document.".
How can I open this again? I'm very nervous about loosing this document.
    Thanks,
    Sebastian

    Hi,
Based on the error message, I recommend to verify the things below:
    1.  Check the permission of your account on the documents and the library.
    2.  Check if the library has set the Information Rights Management(IRM).
Please go to the library settings > Information Rights Management under Permissions for Management.
    https://support.office.microsoft.com/en-us/article/Apply-Information-Rights-Management-to-a-list-or-library-3bdb5c4e-94fc-4741-b02f-4e7cc3c54aa1?CorrelationId=77e3484e-beb9-4d73-9e06-90bea5206f0d&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US
    3.  Does this issue occur with all the libraries and documents in the site? Please add your account as site collection administrator and then check the results.
    Thanks,
    Victoria

  • Can't open document in iCloud (Pages crashes on iPhone)

I have been working on documents in Pages on my iPhone 5, saving to iCloud and then opening the document on my Macbook Pro 15" Retina.
The documents can't be opened on two devices at the same time.  That will result in one of them, and sometimes both, being deleted.  Not good.
To avoid that problem I've been working on my iPhone 5 only.  Is there a way to save to iCloud without closing the document in Pages for the Sync?
I've closed the document, it has apparently synced with iCloud, but cannot be opened on either MacBook or iPhone.
This is a really disappointing flaw.  Hopefully you can help me with a solution or a work-around.

Tried to go to the source and the document can't be download on iCloud either.
I made a copy of the problem document and am not able to open that one either.
Hours of work lost.  This is not good.  Apple Support, please help us.

I don't think there is a way to specify how to open a file of
    NO type.
    Why not rename them?

Has the syncing finished, or are you still seeing progress bars beside the files?

  • Can't open 'Documents' in Finder

I cannot open the 'documents' files in finder for last couple of days . Every time I am clicking on "documents" in the 'finder' sidebar, finder crashes and stops working and I need to relaunch it.
Therefore I have to use 'all my files' tab which is time consuming.
My Device Information: Macbook Air 11 inch (mid 2013), OS X Yosemite (Version 10.10)

Assuming you can, click on your home directory (it is the one with the 'house' icon so you can see all the folders in your home directory - including Documents. Can you open Documents from there?
If so: drag the Documents icon from the sidebar until you see a little cloud icon and release it. That deleted Documents from the sidebar. Now drag the Documents folder from your drive space into the sidebar to create a new alias of it. Test and see that it works.
If not: your drive directory is damaged. Restart while holding the command & R keys to enter Recovery mode. Select Disk Utility and your hard drive icon. Select Repair Disk.
