Can't open downloaded files due to 'unidentified developer'

Hi,
When trying to open an application file download from the internet I get a message window that states:
"ROES_Utility" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.
According to the reputable company i'm trying to download this from, this is due to setting on my Mac -
I understand the reason why this is happening but what is the solution? What settings do I need to change?
thanks in advance,
G.

"Next" time it will be easy.
But the 1st time, "Ya Just Gotta Know", and that is not so easy.
Glad it got you going.

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

  • Getting "Can not open the file due to unknown error(FRM:0007)"

Getting "Can not open the file due to unknown error(FRM:0007)", when refreshing the local copy of Deski report  from user docs.
    Any assistance
    Thanks,
    Sasi.

    Hi Sasi,
One of the reason for this error is corrupted universe. So you can try following steps and restore copy of universe and then try to import this universe and check whether it works.
1.While importing a universe, a temp file is created in the users local settings temp directory.
    2. For example C:\Documents and Settings\brijones\Local Settings\Temp\0dd0b0a7 .
    3. File has no extension is relatively the same size as the original universe file.
4.Rename this file to original universe name.
    I hope it helps.

    Snehal

  • Can't open downloaded files

Help! I can't open downloads from the internet or e-mail in preview. It seems to be happening with both pdfs and jpegs. It just started yesterday, and I'm not sure why. It gives me a message stating that the file may be corrupted or the wrong file type. The file type is not wrong, and it says this for files from any source even trusted ones. Any help is much appreciated!!

    HI,
Assuming you are using Safari... try maintenance.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons then cick Reset.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Empty Cache.
    Quit Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete all the sub-folders within that one.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete any of these files you have there:
    • Downloads.plist
    • History.plist
    • LastSession.plist
    Restart Safari.

  • Pages can´t open a file due to index.xml is missing

After writing 138 pages of my PhD-Thesis and I have only 7 days left I got the error message can´t open file - index.xml is missing - shocking! So I called the support because I thought it can´t be lost due to the fully active preview - only pages did not want to open the file.
But I found a solution by surfing in different forum discussions and I want here to summarize, what to do.
    1. A pages document is an archive - unfortunately in the latest version (iwork09) it is not signed as such anymore, what made older forum discussions quite irritating - but the tric is to rename the file to.zip and unpack the zip file.
    2. Then it is possible to see if the index.xml is there (in my case) or if it is renamed to index-new.xml
in my case it was just possible to open this index file in textedit and save it again - if it has been renamed to index-new - simply save it after opening as index.xml.
the rename the whole folder back to a pages document with the ending .pages and open it in pages like usual by double click.
just as small aid for all other users with important document
please post herer if there were more problem or other solutions with this index.xml file
    Regards!

I changed the file to .pages.zip and it still will not open up or unzip .. what do i do ?

  • Can not open downloaded files

when I download a file that is not a pdf file and try to open it firefox states that the file is not pdf file and tells me that it can not process it. you treat every downloaded file as if it were a pdf file regardless of what type it is.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • Google Chrome can't open downloaded files

    Hello.
I'm having a little problem with Google Chrome. Made package from AUR.
Everything is working fine, but I can't get chrome to open any files it downloads, I have to manually go to the downloaded file and open it.
I'm sure the answer is trivial, I just can't figure it out.
    Anyone know?

Hmm... To be on the safe side make sure you have installed perl-file-mimeinfo and xorg-xprop. Also, while logged out of your account, switch to a console screen, log in and delete these two files "~/.local/share/mimeapps.list" and "~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list".  After this I'd recommend that you delete your browser's configuration "~/.config/google-chrome" (make sure you have a cloud backup to recover all your data later, or at least backup your bookmarks and ssl certificates before doing this ).

  • Help!  Can't open downloaded files.

I recently purchased and downloaded a program for creating genograms. During downloading, I selected "Open with Stuffit Extender" as default, but when it was downloaded onto my desktop, the icon attached to the program was a "Word" icon. Thus, Word is the Default application that is opening the program. SO, I CAN'T open a program I just paid $50 for. I don't know how to select the right application to open this program file. Some downloads are opened with Word, sometimes with Exel. Please help!! --Thank you!

Select the file in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and change the default application for that file to StuffIt Expander. Alternatively, you may be able to open it by dragging it into the open StuffIt Expander window or the StuffIt Expander icon in the Dock.

  • Can't open downloaded app due "unknown publisher"

I can't open a downloaded app because of an "unknow publisher"

This is Apple's "Gatekeeper" which blocks programs from being installed on your computer that isn't part of AppStore enviroment or their registered developers.
The way it just blocks things kind of makes new computer users beleive only App Store is a source of software.
The way it's implemened is wrong, it should warn you that the app is from a unverified publisher and then have a button to allow it to be installed regardless, like it is on Windows.
Except Apple did things this way and now people have tons of questions and want to turn it off.
If a user needs more controls on outside software, then that should be a option in preferences, not blocking all apps by default.
So it's a blocker, not a fair warning of the higher risks with unverified developers software.
It's very uproductive for developers to spread malware, most are in it for profit or good hearted reasons and the bad ones are few and discovered in short time anyway.

  • Can not open Muse File due to Corrupt XML

I can not open my muse file and make changes to my website.  When I try to open the file, I get this message:
    An Error Has Occured
Assert: "Corrupt XML in database record U10684 class BoxPageItem"
I have no idea what to do or what could have even happened!!!  Any help is appreciated!

Ugh. Well, first priority should be determining what hard drive in your workflow is failing. Odds are you have many other files (from the different applications you use, as well as Muse) with random bytes that are scrambled.
Unfortunately, with this type of random scrambling of bytes throughout a .muse file, it's very difficult to determine the extent of the damage without investing the full time to attempt to repair the file. Attempting a repair would take hours of effort and likely at least a few days chronologically. In the end it would be very difficult to determine when/if the file was fully repaired. If a repair appeared to be successful, I would be concerned the file would have lingering scrambled bytes that would manifest as abberant behavior in Muse in the future.
That said, after discussing things at length with a fellow developer we're going to try a few things to attempt to get a better picture of just how widespread the damage is. If it turns out to be pervasive, then the file is beyond repair (or at least it would take less time to recreate from scratch in Muse than it would to attempt to repair). If the corruption turns out to be more isolated or has a consistent pattern, we may be able to repair the file at least to the level we can no longer easily detect scrambled bytes.
We probably won't have an update before tomorrow.

  • I can't open downloaded files because other USER Profile defaults

I inherited a laptop using Vista, which has Firefox vs.27.0.1.
I set up a new user profile for Firefox, using my name.
When I download a file, it shows up in the download section (the arrow at the top right of the address bar)
When I click on it and open it...another Users information appears c:/USERS/ADAM/DESKTOP/DESKTOP
The file tries to open and then disappears.
How to I change my setup so that I can download AND open files without them being blocked by the original user?

Did you ever find out what the problem was? I am having the same issue

  • Can't open downloaded files on library

I downloaded some files about 3 months ago but tried to open but the option appears grey or disabled. I read somewhere in this forum that iif "Open" and "Open Containing Folder" in the right-click context menu in the Download Manager window are grayed then that means that the file is not in the original download location and they may have been removed by Anti-virus or cleanup software.
That might be the reason but I have yet not found any solution. Where does that leave me? did I permanently loose these files?
These are important and not retrievable since I got the from we transfer and the link expired months ago.
I appreciate some real help! thanks

The file might have been deleted, so look in the Recycle Bin on your desktop. Also, look in the "quarantine" section of your anti-virus or clean-up software.
Finally search your entire computer for the file:
    1. Press WindowsKey+F to open Windows Explorer.
    2. Type the name of the file you are looking for.
