Can't open emails but can send emails - I use verizon

I use verizon for my emails. On my IPAD I can see my emails but when I click on then I just get that circle that goes around and it keeps doing that forever. I can sent emails. I am able to open them fine on my computer so I don't think it is verizon. I have tried turning off, different ways to get on verizon but nothing seems to that I can think of. Any suggestions?

My gmail, which is correctly configured for Mail with gmail SMTP and Google IMAP, works for awhile on Mail, which I leave open while working on other applications. But several times a day I get msg from Google: "We recently blocked a sign-in attempt to your Google Account" . . . and requiring me to verify my account details, re-enter passwords, confirm security settings (or change them from "disable" to "enable less secure methods" and so on). In Mail I also have tried "taking all accounts online", and re-entering my gmail password inside Mail account settings. These steps successfully re-set comms between gmail and Mail ... for awhile, then it happens again. Enough occurrences over a work day that I just quit Mail and revert to accessing gmail directly. Apple Care advisor and an Apple knowledge base article say that Apple can't deal with this, as gmail is third-party app, and they refer me to gmail, and so far I've found nothing helpful there.
From today I also have several instances of a window saying "Mail has unexpectedly closed" and asking me to Re-open it.
I also use Yahoo mail, which stops working with Mac Mail at the same time as gmail, but I do not receive notices to re-verify from Yahoo.
I recently upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. The Mail problem happened occasionally with Mavericks but is far more frequent with Yosemite.

My Mail program is not receiving messages all of a sudden. But I can send.
I have to get my mail at .Mac. Just tried fixing permissions. No luck yet. I just sent myself an email and it came into .Mac but not to my Mail program.
What have I done?

More than likely .Mac but to confirm, at the menu bar for the Mail application go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
Under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences, what is shown next to Account Type?
If .Mac, a .Mac type account with the Mail application is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way so try using the Rebuild Mailbox function on the Inbox mailbox for your .Mac account.
If there is a black triangle to the left of Inbox in the mailboxes drawer, select it pointing it down to reveal your .Mac account named Inbox mailbox. Select the mailbox and at the menu bar go to Mailbox and select Rebuild.
All messages in the message list for the account's Inbox mailbox will disappear temporarily and the mailbox will be resynchronized with the server.

Can send to SMTP using SSL from everywhere but home!

This is a very very peculiar problem and god knows I have had my share of strange problems with computers but I think this one tops them all. The situation is the following:
I would like to be able to send email using my work SMTP server which requires a secured SSL connection. I have the correct configuration in Mail. When I am at work, I am able to send emails with no problems. When I am anywhere else (free wifi at mcDonalds, friend's home,..) I can send no problem....But I CAN'T SEND FROM HOME!!
I get an error message telling me to try another server. I have tried pinging the server from home and there is no problem there. I have also tried Outlook Express running on Parallels on the same machine and from home and there is also no problem: the emails go through!
If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it as I am about to go crazy!

Try a test by creating a New User Account, and as that New User launch Mail and try setting up this work related account, and then test sending. See the following if not familiar with adding a new user account:

The reason for doing this is to test the Mail app itself, and not to permanently switch to a new user account. If this account is a POP account, be sure to select for it to leave messages on the server after download. That would not be an issue with type IMAP.

IPad will not open email attachments using webmail ?

Hi We own a iPad 3, OS5.1.1 ( the iPad belongs to my wife ) therefore she has her own account set up using the iPad's email programme ( I do not have my email account on this iPad as we want to keep our accounts seperate) When I login to my email account using my webmail I can not open any attachement wheather it be pdf.doc,txt ext etc ? when I select the document ( attachment ) nothing happens - if my wife has any pdf's attached to her emails using the iPad's email programme they open without any problems ? I have spoken to my email provider as a webmail programme should be able to open attachments connected with an email - but they are not at all helpful they are suggesting that the problem is with the iPad which I am not at all convinced by unless I am advised other wise by anybody with a technical experience of this problem. We have 3rd party apps such as PDF Reader and also iBooks which can read ePub files - can any body help with this - I am not talking about downloading files here, I am simply talking about the capacity to just open and read an attachment which I can not do with our iPad - we have plenty of memory and drive space, therefore I think it is a bug which might be due to a combination of the webmail programme and the iPad not working with each other - or simply something that is not apparent to me Any help would be much appreciated Many Thanks Mavis

I had the same problem.
A colleage sent an email from an ipad with a pdf attachment (via FileApp Pro) and while the email arrived OK and the Inbox shows an attachment there is nowhere to click and open the document from.
The name of the pdf is listed in the detail of the message but there is no icon within the message to open it with.
The first page of the pdf file was shown within the message too.
The trick was to click and hold somewhere within the first page (displayed in the email).
This prompts the "Open in ..." popup from which you can open your preferred pdf reader to see the whole document.

Can only open emails by using the reply button

Hello Mail Program Wizards!
I seem to be sending and receiving emails fine, but can not open sent or new email. I can open an email only if I select it and then hit the reply button. Then the email is displayed in the body of the new email. If I double click on an email, it shows up as if it has been read even though it wasn't even opened.
I'm running OSX 10.4.8, Mail program is version 2.1
I have a POP account and my service provider is Verizon DSL.

When you select a message from the list in your inbox the message contents should be displayed in the viewing pane below the list. If you cannot see the viewing pane find the little dot in the middle of the bottom bar of the window and drag it up into the list area.

RECIPIENT CAN'T OPEN EMAILS SENT USING MAIL

Hi there, I have mail set up using my mobileme address and account. It generally runs pretty well but i have one contact who can never open my emails. Upon opening all he gets is a spinning beach ball. He has no problem with any other emails only mine. And, as far as i know, none of my other contacts experience the same problem. Even if he forwards the email to another of his colleagues sharing the same office my emails remain unable to open. Is there something i should try changing in my mail settings to fix the issue?

Is your recipient also on a Mac? Are his office mates on Macs too?

I figured out the AOL iChat LATE last night.
I finally got my email up and running. I called Cox to get the correct POP and SMTP addresses. It still wasn't sending, I spoke with Apple who confirmed I had all my perimeters set up correctly. Back to Cox. After a couple frustrating hours, the only reason the email was not sending was that Cox did not support the SSL that I had checked off.
The great thing about Mac (which I kept overlooking) was when I was trying to send my email, it was giving me hints for example the error message smtp.etc is not connecting with the SSL. I could have saved myself some trouble by unchecking that and testing it earlier.

I Am Able To Recieve E-Mails But Not Send E-Mails Using IMAP?

I just set my iPhone up tonight and I set my e-mail up.
I use Microsoft Outlook Express for my mail on my computer.
I entered in all the required information to activate my e-mail on my iPhone and all my e-mails just popped up!
It was awesome...
Well I tried sending a e-mail and it told me to check my smtp.att.yahoo server or something and to try again.
Well I don't know what that means and I don't know what to change.
So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't do it... That verizon Edge will literally bring you over the edge should you try to leave, be sure to read the complete contract which they don't advertise correctly...
Verizon Wireless is basically a criminal who misleads their customers. My contract was almost up. I sign up for the Edge program, and the way it was explained to me, was "oh this way you can upgrade when you want (really once a year) and you aren't in a contract". Well that was a lie. I decide to go elsewhere so I call and ask what I need to do. They say "well, you are in a contract", (ok that wasn't told to me but fine) I ask what my termination fee is, they say "To get out of your edge program, you have to pay the $500 remaining fee for your phone ( Galaxy S5 which I was paying monthly, $25) and a termination fee for your service of $150."
HOLD up, so basically you are telling me that you guys came up with a way to charge two **** termination fees????? If I decided to take my phone with me, I could almost understand that, but If I give the phone back, why would I be paying for something that is no longer in my possession??? They say" That is how the Edge program works" WHAT COMPANY RUNS GAME LIKE THAT ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE THAT PHONE AND RESELL IT??? I cannot send email from Outlook 2011 (for Mac). But can send from other applications

I have Outlook 2011 for Mac - I have validated the settings and up until yesterday could send and receive emails using my .mac account.
I can send using icloud and mail (I use Outlook for work purposes) and can send in outlook using my work accounts.
My settings
Incoming server - imap.mail.me.com
Use SSL to connect checked.
Outgoing server - smtp.mail.me.com
override default port checked (port 587)
use SSL to connect checked
authentication - Username and password.
I have rebuilt the database - no effect.
I continue to get the error
"Mail could not be sent
The server for account "mac" returned the error. 5.7.8. Bad Username or password (Authentication failed..)" Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try rentering your password"
I have validated my username and password and rentered them both.
I have emptied the outbox and retried but nothing works.

Update - I now have it working.
am not really sure what exactly fixed it.
I changed a lot of things but my setup now has the following which I think fixed.
outgoing server - p06-smtp.mail.me.com
override default port checked - port now 587
on more options button changed it to "use incoming server info".

I can send and receive using talktalk without any problems using my iPod and iPad.

The error I see is you did not specify the proper authentication for the smtp server.
In the Mail preferences for the account, smtp popup, select Edit SMTP Server List. A sheet will drop down. Select Advanced tab on that sheet. You should, I assume, set the Authentication to password, and set the proper username and password. That's where the poper would be set if 587 is not the one you should be using. Maybe it is. I only bring it up since I see it trying to use port 587.
If you got this stuff already set correctly then I don't know. Mail has a problem in your setup. Maybe delete the account and recreate it from scratch.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I have no trouble receiving mail on my iPad 2 but cannot send mail.

I have turned on all the SMTP servers and re-booted the device but can't send outbound mail. Oddly though, I can send outbound mail using QuickOffice.
