Can't open Excel files with Numbers

Hi,
I'm having troubles when I try to open Excel files with Numbers. The iWork program simply shuts down and a message appears, telling that a "sudden problem happened".
Can anyone help here? I really appreciate.
Rafinha

Hi Rafinh,
Welcome to Numbers discussions.
Numbers will open Excel documents. Sometimes deleting the Numbers Preference file will do the trick. Close Numbers then delete the Numbers preference file: home > Library > Preferences, com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
In the upper right of this window click Search thousands of questions have been asked and answered.
These Discussions are enduser helping enduser, not Apple employees answering questions. Questions will be answered when a enduser such as yourself finds time, desires to, knows the answer along with the time to respond.
Again, welcome to Numbers Discussions, have fun here.
Cordially,

  • Can't open excel 97 with numbers

I am unable to open an .xls file with numbers '09 v2.3 (554).  I have not had this problem before although this file is Excel '97 it is one of my earliest files from my PC days.  I recieve the error message "This document was created with an unsupported version of Excel. Only documents created with Excel ’97 or later can be opened."  Don't understand as it is '97.
I've tried to open other files from the same folder unsucesfully and I can't even open the word .doc files.
    Thanks, any ideas much appreciated.

I'd suggest downloading one of the open source Office suites, OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice or NeoOffice, then re-saving the result in a more recent Excel format, to be opened in Numbers.
Or you might stop at that first step, and use that application to work with these files.
Links are to download sites. All three request donations. Neo requires a recent donation to download the most current version.

  • Can't open Excel file with my Imac

Can someone help me with this one. I keep getting excel files from work but I have an Imac at home and unable to open and make changes

Purchasing MS Office for Mac is the probable the best choice, however if I could offer another option.
I have been using Open Office for Mac, it is an open source application and works with all MS Office files, best
    of all it is free.
I have been using it for about a year now and I have not had any problems exchanging MS Office files.
This is the screen shot of Open Office.Calc ( Excel )
It may solve your problem and save you some cash.

  • Excel file with numbers on ipad.

I sent an excel file with numbers to my ipad.  When I open it with Numbers there is no data in the cells.  HELP!!

How did you send it? Email? iTunes?

  • Some users can't open Excel files. It is trying to open it in Internet Explorer "An error has occurred. Please try again."

I have some users in my company that can't open Excel files from any document libraries on SharePoint 2010. The receive the error message "An error occurred. Please try again."  We don't currently use the Excel calculations services. When
a user opens an excel file they are prompted to either Read Only or Edit.
This affects less than 5 people in a large company.  They have the Full Control permissions and have been able to open the files previously.  There has been no changes made to the server either.  I can't find anything that points to this in the
    event viewer.
It doesn't matter if which computer that they try to open this up from either.   All computers are Windows 7 Professional with IE 9 and Office 2010 x64.
I can't find anything that points specifically to this exact error. None of the excel files contain pivot tables.    This one has me stumped.

I would make sure no one has open on machine / locked on machine (Would assume you checked this, but wanted to add)
Also would have assumed you restarted the machines (:))
Make sure the file security did not change (check to ensure no one changed the sercuity of the excel)
Make sure the version of excel is the same (Changing from 2010 back to 2007 affects the file, etc.. on convert) that no one converted and saved thus causing error in file.
Can they open other excel files?
It sounds like the excel file it self has changed if you cannot see issue in SharePoint logs.
If it is all SharePoint excel files - try deleting one persons access and readding them to see if that helps.
    SharePoint has issues ;)

  • I can't open number files with password protection?

I am using OSX 10.9.4 with Numbers 3.2.2 (1878) and have one file which is password protected. While opening the file with Numbers, it prompts for the password after correct entry I receive the friendly message: "xxx" can't be opened.  That's it.
    Any solution out there?
    Thanks, Hansjoerg

Your observation seems to be right because it was not the first time I recognized this effect. However, it is bitter to see that professional SW like Numbers can't hangle this option (password protection) correctly. It might have to do with the fact that the data file from Numbers is actually not a single file but a container with lost of files an subdirectories. Why the **** they make it so complex?
Anyway, many thanks for your hint. I hope to find a tool which can correct those corrupted Number-files.

  • Opening Excel files in Numbers 08

I have just downloaded iworks08 to my new macbook pro. I have a trial edition of microsoft excel for mac downloaded as well. I have noticed that I am not able to open excel files in numbers 08. Is this true? Is it not feasible to open excel files in numbers o8? In addition, I have not been able to open numbers files in excel. Is this also true? I have used iwork 09 trial, and noticed that you are able to open and create excel files. I assume this was part of the upgrading from 08 to 09 iworks.
Could someone please confirm the above questions? In addition, is there any way to open and/or create excel files in numbers 08? Thank you.

It depends of the format used to save them.
I have not been able to open numbers files in excel.
Normal, the default format is Numbers only.
I have used iwork 09 trial, and noticed that you are able to open and create excel files. I assume this was part of the upgrading from 08 to 09 iworks.
There are few changes on this subject.
Is there any way to open and/or create excel files in numbers 08?
    For open see response above.
To create Excel file with Numbers '08, use the Export menu item.
I wish to add that with every copy of iWork '08, Apple deliver well done PDF *_User Guides_*.

  • I can't open PDF files with adobe flash player

I have installed it and whenever I try to open pdf files it says I need to agree with your liscens and you do that automatically when you download it. I have followed all your instructions on your website and uninstalled it and installed again, but I can't open pdf files with it. I don't know what the problem is exactly, but it's really frustrating..

Flash Player CANNOT open PDFs because they AREN'T Flash Documents.
    Adobe Reader opens PDFs.
To accept the license agreement (NOT the one you accepted to download or install - the one for USE)
    Windows:
Go to: C/Program Files(x86)/Adobe/Reader 11.0/Reader and double click the eula.exe file. The license agreement will open for you to accept.
    Mac:
Go to: Mac HD/Applications and double click the Reader app. The license agreement will open THE FIRST TIME you open it.

For the D600 NEF's you have two alternatives: (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)  Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3  Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3  You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. • Can't open .wmf files with Illustrator

I'm using Creative Suite CS2 on a PC/Windows XP operating system.
I'm suddenly unable to launch Illustrator when I try to open a .wmf file from within Windows Explorer. Instead, I get an error message that the file itself is not a valid program (DUH!).
I also cannot open them with the "Edit Original" command in InDesign.
I have tried changing the "Opens With Program..." option in the file properties from within Windows Explorer over and over.
Oddly, I can always open .wmf files with Illustrator from within Adobe Bridge, simply by double-clicking the file. And of course, I can open them from within Illustrator by simply going to "open file".
But I really want to be able to use the "Edit Original" feature in InDesign to launch and open .wmf files in Illustrator.
Anybody know what's going on? Is this a Windows problem, an Illustrator problem or an InDesign problem? And how do I fix it?
Thanks so much for any suggestions.

I'm sorry you're having this problem with Illustrator.  Would you mind reposting over on the Illustrator forums?  You've posted in the AIR forum and I think you'll have better luck over there.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Can't open pdf file with pdf.xml file extension

    Hi
I can't open a file with pdf.xml extension. Does anyone have this problem? How did you resolve it?

Actually, the extension is just .xml. Anything before the period doesn't count as part of the extension.
Your browser may be able to open it, if not see here ---->XML File (What It Is & How To Open One)

  • Opening Excel files in Numbers

I am a rookie Apple user. When I purchased my MacBook Pro I was assured I could open my Excel files in Numbers. Well, I have tried to email the files and have burned them to a disc and either way they will not open in Numbers. I get an error message that the files are encrypted. My Word files on the same disc/email open with no problem so there is no encryption that I am aware of. The Excel file that I am trying to open is a report template with 4 linked pages in a "book" Other than dates there are no numbers. All fields are designated for text. I have tried to open the blank saved templates as well as completed and saved reports to no avail. Is this issue because it is a "book"? Is it because it is mostly text? or what???
If this issue cant be resolved is it worth getting Office for Mac so I can use my excel files? (must stay with Excel because of work) I have heard it causes a lot of issues (freezing/slowness) just as if you were running it on a PC (although I only had such issues when my software/computer was too old). Any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

I am a rookie Apple user. When I purchased my MacBook Pro I was assured I could open my Excel files in Numbers.
You where too optimistic. Numbers is able to open many Excel files using a format which was availabler in august 2007 when it was 'finished'.
Well, I have tried to email the files
To mail an iWork document, we must compress it as a .zip archive because several mail applications are unable to transfer folder (an iWork document is a package which is a special kind of folder).
and have burned them to a disc and either way they will not open in Numbers. I get an error message that the files are encrypted.
Given the structure of iWork documents, we can't open them from a read only device. The message is wrong. Copy the document on a read-write media and you will able to open it.

  • How to list all currently open Excel files with ActiveX?

    Hello all!
I would like to program with ActiveX a way to retrieve a list (array of strings) of the filenames of the currently opened Excel files in windows. However, I am fairly new to the ActiveX/Excel business in LV and after hours looking at the "millions" of objects in the property nodes I give up and hope some kind soul here can help me. I couldn't find any information in this forum regarding the same issue, although some were close
I am using LV 7.1 without the Report Generation Toolkit.
    Thanks!

    Hi KC,
thanks for your reply. I have in fact been able to find the desired things in the ActiveX properties/methods for Excel in LabView. It took me some looong work going through the functions which I suspected to be the ones. Anyway, I post a little jpeg here of the code if someone ever needs the same functionality. What it does is that it checks how many Excel workbooks are open and controls if each of them matches the searched Excel filename, if one does, it is closed.
    Enjoy
