Can't open files with Reader 9.0

I just upgraded to Acrobat Professional, so I also upgraded to Reader 9.0. When I try to open a file on our Intranet, I get the message, "The Adobe Acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and Try again." Everything worked fine with Reader 8. There is no other version of Reader or Acrobat on this machine except version 9. I am using Windows XP SP2.

Every time I click on a link while in browser IE 7.0 that calls to open a pdf I am receiving this error. I am running Win XP Pro w/SP2.
This is the verision I am running over Adobe Reader, verison 9.1.2:
I do not have Pro installed. When I look at "Add or Remove Programs" I have: Adobe AIR, Adobe Download Manager, Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX, Adobe Reader 9.1.2, and Spelling Dictionaries Support for Adobe Reader 9.
I have tired to do the "Repair Adobe Reader Installation" and it runs through the process and appears to go through ok.  But I am still having the problem when I get on the web and click on a pdf. I have restarted my computer after the installation as well to see if that would help (incase files needed to finish installation) and I am still getting the same problem.
What does work...I am able to save the link by "Save Target As" to my computer and are able to view the files and additional all other PDF files physically on my computer will open fine in Reader 9.1.2, just not files located on the web.
Is this a common issue going around or local. I did not have this problem with v.8 prior to this upgrade.
Thank you for any assistance you can give.

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.2 CS4 InDesign can't open files with a "#" in file path

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 CS4 InDesign can't open files with a "#" in file path using any of these perfectly normal methods:
    1. double-click file in the Finder (e.g in a Folder on your Mac or on your Mac desktop etc.)
    2. select file and choose "File... Open" command-o in the Finder
    3. drag file to the application icon in the Finder.
    4. Select file in Bridge and double-click, choose File.. Open.. or Drag icon to InDesign icon in dock.
If you try to open an ID file named with a "#", you will get an error message "Missing required parameter 'from' for event 'open.'"
This happens to any InDesign file that has a "#" (pound sign, number sign, or hash) in the filename or in the file path (any parent folder).
    To reproduce
Name an InDesign file Test#.idd Try to open it in the Finder or Bridge (as opposed to the "Open" dilaog of InDeisng itself).
    "Solution"
The file WILL open using File... Open... command-o while in InDesign application.
Rename the file or folders that have a "#" (shift-3) in the filename.
Report to Adobe if it bugs you.
This does not occur in "plain" Leopard 10.5 nor Tiger 10.4
Untested in Panther or before and
Untested with CS3 and earlier in Snow Leaopard.
Anyone have those and want to try this... ?

In case this really bothers you: we've added a workaround for this into Soxy. If you enable the option, these documents will open fine on double-click.
    You need Soxy 1.0.7 from:
    http://www.rorohiko.com/soxy
Go to the 'Soxy' - 'Preferences' - 'Other' dialog window, and enable 'Open InDesign via Script'
(Irrelevant background info (it's all invisible to the user): the workaround works by special-casing how Soxy opens documents in InDesign: instead of using AppleScript, Soxy will use ExtendScript to instruct InDesign to open the document - which works fine).

  • My trackpad can't open file with double click

i don't know what's going on, but my trackpad can't open file with double click. i have to open it with right click, open or open with. i've tried to fix it in the system preferences, it didn't work out well.

William - you are wonderful!  I had looked at that - they were set to 'internal' which seemed like RH...but selecting the 'design view' and then reselecting 'use default editor' instead of 'auto-select editor' did it.  THANK YOU!!!!!

    Hi!
I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 and the option to open files with Camera Raw is disabled in Bridge and in PS.

  • Why can't I open files with Reader X??

I received an auto update request about one week ago from ADOBE.  I had 9.4 (I think) at the time and the request took to me to Reader X 10.1.1.
Since then, I cannot seem to open PDF files stored in my document library, nor attach any files to emails. When I click one.....nothing happens.  They files are all solid white rather than showing the red/white coloration of Adobe - like they used to before the "upgade". The only way I can open a PDF is to launch the Reader X software and click "open files" from there.  Obviously, this doesn't help me since I need to email PDFs to clients, and printing 'n faxing isn't an option.
Here's what I've done before so as to avoid repetitive suggestions:
    1.  Uninstalled and reinstalled (more than 1/2 dozen time).  I restarted the PC in between both fuctions. Didn't work.
    2.  Tried to fall back to 9.4 after uninstalling.  Didn't work.
3,  System restore.  Done for (3) different dates proceeeding the update to 10.1.  Didn't work.
    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!
    Thanks in advance.....

You don't need Adobe Reader to email PDFs to clients.

  • Can't get OPP service started after OATM due to can't open file for reading

This is my second run on the OATM upgrade. OPP (and thus XML reports) came up fine after the 2nd run. After this run, had some issues with enqueing and solved them in an S/R with Oracle, but now I can't start OPP. I have tried all sorts of things, like aborting it in OATM, restarting, shutting down instance, running cmclean twice, resubmitting request, etc. Here is the error I get:
As System Administrator in forms, go to:
    Concurrent -> Manager -> Administer
-> pick Output Post Processor (from the many manager in the list)
-> by the way it says "Activating" under status, seems stuck there.
-> then hit the Processes button
-> it will show a long list of "Terminated" and default to the first
    one at the top.
-> Hit the "Manager Log" button
    -> you now get
    "APP-FND-01632: Cannot open file
    /sechi/applcsf/log/SECHI_orav880d/FNDOPP1380237.txt for reading
Cause: [Routine] encountered an error when attempting to open file
    sechi/applcsf/log/SECHI_orav880d/FNDOPP1380237.txt for reading
Action: Verify that the filename is correct, the environment variables
controlling that filename are correct, and the file exists.
Action: Verify that protections on that file permit reading by this
    program
    - but what is wierd is that the permissions on this dir are 777. I can see old OPP logs in that directory from before OATM. I can manually create a file with the name it complains about , then the app opens up the blank file with nothing in it. It seems that file is not getting created, not that it can't be opened.
If I need to change the log level of OPP please also tell me how to do that if it would provide some clues.
    THanks Marvin

One more thing I am going to try first....
I am going to change the service ID of the OPP manager. It keeps trying
to restart the dead process maybe that it is..

  • LibreOffice can't open files with spaces in the name

Hi, so I recently installed LibreOffice (from extra) over go-OO. I know the site says it's not for production use but I have heard good things about the stability of the current version so I decided to see if it was in a usable state. In general things are going great, but I do have the problem mentioned in the thread title. The program has trouble parsing the spaces, and instead I am trying to open each space-delimited section of the filename as a separate file. Trying to open "My File.odt", for example, will simply return two error messages, one about "path/to/current/directory/My" not existing, and another about "path/to/current/directory/File.odt" not existing. I can't seem to get around this behaviour and, surprisingly, I can't find anything on it by Googling.
I know that LO is in beta and this may just be a bug that is being worked on, but since I can only find one reference to it on the net I thought that maybe others were not having this problem or had found a way around it.  Can anyone provide any insight? Cheers!

the $* has some problem, but I do not know how to correct this...
    # Setup our app as oosplash, but try to avoid executing pagein,
    # and other expensive environment setup pieces wherever possible
    # for a second started office
    #if [ "$sd_binary" = "soffice.bin" -a -x "$sd_prog/oosplash.bin" ] && [ "$no_oosplash" != "y" ] ; then
    #    sd_binary="oosplash.bin"
    #    export QSTART_CHECK_ONLY=1
    #    if "$sd_prog/$sd_binary" $*; then
    #   exit 0
    #    fi
    #    unset QSTART_CHECK_ONLY
    #fi
I noticed that commenting out that code allows LibreOffice to open spaced filenames, but seems to slightly increase startup time.
I tried replacing $* with "$*", and opening from the command line seems to work even for files with spaced names, with the faster startup time too. The only problem is that now LO does not work at all by clicking; only from command line.

  • Plese help me ! can't open files with double clicking icons...

at the first, sorry about my English. (i'm japanese and english is my second language so..) anway.... i can't open the files on desk top by double click. if i go to Finder then i can open files... and some files i can open by double click. i downloaded Limewire but i can't install it because my couble click is not working for that. but i can double click to open photoshop, safari or email or some other things in the dock. and i couldn't open up the games either.. doesn anybody knows what's happened to my son's computer? it's a iMac flat panel G4. and OS X 10.3.9. Thank you sooo much!!

Saw your response and started to write to you for help also but have, with one final try, found PART of my problem. I have a Logitech wired optical mouse that worked with everything except opening desktop volumes when I double clicked on them. I could open applications and documents within the Finder window....just not the desktop volume icons.
I ran Disk Utility........verified all the volumes........repaired all permissions, unplugged mouse and reset. Logitech software is up to date.. I've never had this happen before.
What I discovered was that I was double clicking to open the volumes, but had the mouse set for single click. It's still a little strange because I changed it to double click to open and now it opens with double OR single click. Now I can open the volumes but it won't allow me to move the Finder windows that open. I can't drag or move them on the desktop; have to use them where they open.
Any suggestions for me, I hope? Thanks.

  • [Bug] ADE can't open files with & in Booktitle

I have bought some books, apparently generated with a program called "Papyrus Author". Most of them can opened with ADE, but some not.
The Books which can not open in ADE have a Title with a "&" in it like in "Cream&Butter".
The error message is (translated from german version):
    Open butter&cream.epub not possible
In this media has been found errors
If I unzip the epub file and edit in the OEBPS\content.opf the line
    <dc:title>Cream&Butter</dc:title>
    to
    <dc:title>Cream_Butter</dc:title>
The document opens, but with no cover.
To show the cover, I have to edit OEBPS\cover.html
    <img src="images/cover.jpg" alt="Cream&Butter"/>
    to
    <img src="images/cover.jpg" alt="Cream_Butter"/>
BTW: I work on a PC in German with Windows 8.1 64bit. ADE is in Version 4.0.3.110333

My Acrobat that is part of CS4 won't open the PDFs created by the CS3 InDesign file.  However, I do have the plugin to open PDFs in InDesign and that doesn't work with these files either.
These are files I created so I know that they are InDesign files.
I am running OS 10.6.8 and using CS4.

  • Can't Open Files with Double Click??

    HI
I am on 10.8.3 Mountain Lion and when using the trackpad or my wireless bluetooth mouse, I cannot open files by double clicking all of a sudden.  This is a serious problem as I cannot view my video files in Final Cut Pro.   There is no click speed preference in System Preferences and I have no idea what to do.  I don't want to have to right click to open any file on my Mac.  Does anybody have a solution for this?  Thanks

I solved the problem.  If you go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse and Trackpad -  You can set the speed of the double click to be much slower.   Hope this helps someone else with a similar problem.

  • Can't open files with quickoffice - anyone else?

    Hi,
after upgrading to Belle, I also upgraded to quickoffice premium so that I could spell check documents.  Now I can't open word documents.  I can create new ones and then can't open these either.  Is it Bell or the quickoffice upgrade?
Anyone else got this problem or know how to solve?
    Thanks

On raising a support ticket on support.quickoffice.com I was provided a link for quickoffice pro version 7.1.18 which can open word files. So the quickoffice ppl have developed the compatible version with belle. I installed this and it is working fine.

  • Can't open Files with MIDI and WAV Tracks

    Hey All,
I can't open some files anymore. They seem to be files that have MIDI drum tracks and WAV tracks. It seems to try to load the MIDI sound 2 times, then NOTHING. I have to click the GB icon in the dock to get the window to show, BUT then the play, rr, ff, ect buttons don't show, and the close, minimize buttons don't respond. The menu bar is REAL twitchy and you can't click on anything. I have to force quit the app. I have tried loading other files with just WAV tracks and they open fine, and some files with fewer(2) number of MIDI tracks.
I have opened these files before just to listen to them and play with settings but i didn't save them. I have repaired permissions and cleaned the cache, ect. with OnyX.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    UPDATE
Talked to Apple Support and we went through all the Rapair Permissions, Clean Cache, Prefs, Ect. Finally saw that when I switched to Project Mode, THAT was Freezing the Garageband Screen. (The Files that were screwed were saved in the Project Mode, so when they opened up they were still in the Project Mode) We Finally unplugged all External things and Rebooted to Safe Mode, and then tried again.
And 2 and a half hours later Garageband now works fine. Nice to have apple techs stuborn enough to keep going.
