Can't open Final Cut Pro after the migration

I bought a new iMac (21.5 inch: 3.2 GHz) and migrated all the files from my old iMac, which I brought in 2006 or so. When I tried to open Final Cut Pro (Version 5.0.4), an error message shows up and says "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly" and I can't even open the application. Here are the details. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Thanks.

Two problems
Never migrate a pro app.
In your case the underlying issue is v5 is not compatible with intel processors
The solution is to purchase the upgrade to the current version, erase your hard drive and install the system and pro apps fresh from the disks

I can't open Final Cut Pro X.  The problem seemed to start when I deleted some old backups.  Help?

Close FCP X and re-open holding the Option key.
This will allow you to create a new Library, do so.
If the newly created Library works OK then there is a corruption issue in the current one that doesn't open.
Try a backup, usually found in your Home>Movies folder.

  • I can't open Final Cut Pro x after it crushed

I can't open anymore Final Cut Pro X after it crushed while I was editing footage for 10 minutes. Can you tell the reason and what could I do to resolve it?
    Thank you

Maybe the Library or Project have become corrupt.
Hold down the option key as you launch FCP X and you should be given the choice of which Library to open.
Choose to create a new one.
If that doesn't work try these troubleshooting strategies.
Use this free app to trash the preferences. This should be the first thing you try when any problems occur.
             http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
    2.  With FCP X shutdown, hold down option key and select Go>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Pro  .  .  .  trash the Layouts Folder.
      3. Open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
      4. Trash FCP X using this free app and reinstall it.
          http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
      5. If these 3 measures don't work, create a new User Account (Admin) in System    Preferences and try running FCP X from that as it sometimes works miracles.

  • Can't Open Final Cut Pro 7

    Hello All,
I've run into a glitch that I can't seem to get out of. I was having some timeline difficulties (playback freezing, etc.), so as I have in the past I closed FCP7 and trashed my preferences. When I went to reopen FCP7, I get to the Final Cut Pro loading window (the one that says "Licenced To:" and "Version:") and behind this window is the "Choose Setup" window. I can move the "Choose Setup" window, but I can not select any option or drop down menu on it. So that is where I am stuck.
I've searched, but can't seem to find what I am experiencing. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can solve this?
In adavnce, thank you for your input.
    Regards,
    Marc

    Michael, et al,
Here is the scoop with my problem and how things seems to have gotten back to normal:
Firstly, one should always take step one and two in your troubleshooting tips (see Guinness solution). For me it was a couple of martinis, but it's best to step away from one's machine for a little bit and begin to think rationally (a difficut task for me since in my case there would be about 40 hours of editing plus Motion graphics to recover to where I was).
I disconnected both of my external hard drives and launched FCP7 with the same result, but this time I saw a Bias Soundsoap purchase advisory appear. This was a product I experimented with as a trial version some years ago, but never actually purchased (good product, but with Soundtrack Pro it was redundant). I remember deleting the application, but apparently I didn't do as complete of a job as I thought and some of the program's files were still installed on my system. I removed them via these instructions:
    http://www.bias-inc.com/support/faq/cView.php?faq_id=59
After I connected my external firewire dirve that contains my FCP files, FCP7 launched correctly.
Thank you very much for your assistance with this. I used to follow these forums extensively when I was starting out, and your help reminded me why this is such an outstanding resource.
    Regards,
    Marc

  • Can't open Final Cut Pro

Can anyone help me resolve a problem with opening Final Cut. I get the message "The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly". I've tried using the FCP Rescue utility as well as tried to reinstall the software (though setup didn't give me an option to reinstall).
Is there a way I can uninstall the software without losing any files and reinstalling from scratch. Any suggestion would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Commaleta

MichaelG's question of what shows up on the splash is important... maybe it's trying to load an AE plugin that isn't compatible -- find that one and remove it from the plugin folder...
however -- not sure this helps YOU at THIS time but...
Here's what I like to do (short of a full reinstall) when FCP crashes:
    When FCP Quits...
Do these in order and you might not have to do them all:
    1) Trash Preferences FCPRescue - http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    2) Repair Permissions - DiskUtility
    3) Type this in your terminal window (without the quotes) and hit enter: "sudo update_prebinding -root / -force"
    4) Unplug everything and wait
    5) Create New User
    Good luck,

  • I just installed Maverick on my Mac, now I can't open Final Cut Pro!

I just installed Maverick on my Mac. When I started Final Cut Pro, I got the message that probably it doesn't work with Maverick.
Before that moment it was also impossible to update Final Cut Pro.  App Store directed me to Apple Menu looking for updates, and the Apple Menu directed me tot the App Store. Sounds familiar to someone?

The GM of Mavericks that I tried out shortly before Mavericks actually came out worked great with FCPX until I tried to import something into FCPX. The import window would open and then nothing. Wouldn't let me do or choose anything. Always had to force quit it. So, I'm a little hesitant to upgrade today.

  • Can I open Final Cut Pro X Archives, Events or Projects in iMovie?

I did  a trial version of FInal Cut Pro X for a month and imported some events, did some archiving and a couple of projects. I don't think I'll end up buying FCP X - at least not for now as Imovie seems to cover my needs. Is there a way for me to move these archives, events and/or projects to iMovie?

If you imported your media with transcoding or copy options, then you can recover those files from the Final Cut Events > EventName > Original Media folder (as long as they are not aliases to the originals.)  If you archived originals on Import you can retreive your media from the archive (looks like a film "can") by right-clicking and selecting Show Package Contents (you should see basically the same layout as is on your memory card in your camera.) Just go in and drag them out, then trash the archive. Other than that, the data saved in the Final Cut Projects folder is pretty useless for any other app.

  • Can't Open Final Cut Pro file

Hello - I've been given an FCP file that I tried opening in my FCP 6.0.6 and it said "Files format too new for this version." So I assumed it was a FCP 7 file. So I downloaded free trial of FCP X to see if that would open it and it wouldn't either. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a converter out there that will convert down to FCP 6? I paid for 7toX and it wouldn't read it either. THANKS!!!!

Thanks Gregory. I have read something similar. I was actually trying to see if there was some kind of converter out there that I could download that could make the XML file. Looks like I'll have to ask the person who created the file to send me a XML file. Thanks again!

  • Can't Find Final Cut Pro with my admin user!

It was there, but I changed the name from the person I bought the macbook15 from and now all the settings and apps are set default.
Is there a way my main account (set to admin) can find Final Cut Pro (and maybe others) to appear on hard drive without having to use the old name and password?
If I create a new user with the name of the original account is simply says "Username already used". In other words, If I am to use the old username, I have to change my main admin account and go through that all over again.
Admin should mean, total control of the computer...
Also does deleting/changing the original user actually delete programs?? It shouldn't, the hard drive files should be left alone. I can't find Final Cut Pro on the drive at all, it seemed to only appear when I'm using the original user name.
    Thoughts....discussions??
I'm using the latest Macbook Pro 15 and updates.

Firewire port is not required to install Final Cut Pro. Take a look at the Final Cut Studio system requirements and cross-reference it with your system specifications to discover what hardware your computer is lacking.

  • When i open final cut pro x  when it starts loding the projects it shows the spining beach ball and is stuck wat can i do?

when i open final cut pro x  when it starts loding the projects it shows the spining beach ball and is stuck wat can i do?

Possible  corrupted project or media fies. Here's what I'd suggest.
First trash preferences. If that doesn't work…
Move your Final Cut Projects folder into a folder named Hidden Folder. See if FCP then launches. If it doesn't hide your Final Cut Events folder. Once FCP launches successfuly, create a test event and project.
To track down the problem, successively move load events and projects from hideen to their proper location and open FCP. When and if you get the crash you have hopefully located the problem.
The easiest way to do this is to purchace Event Manager X ($5).
    Good luck.

  • When opening Final Cut Pro it keeps getting stuck with the loading circle and I have to force the quit so please help?

I have a Macbook Air, still fairly new from July 4, 2014. Yesterday, I was editing some footage in Final Cut Pro, and the colored spinning circle kept popping up. I continuously forced the quit, as I couldn't do anything, and then I restarted and looked for updates (though there was none). I then deleted the app and reinstalled it, but it's still giving me the same problem. This morning, I created a new user account, and Final Cut Pro works on that account, but it took some time to find the exported video (I actually had to turn it off and turn it back on to find the video). Later today, I went onto the main account, where Final Cut Pro isn't working, and it's still giving me trouble, and then the Picture Preview program got stuck, as well, twice, where I had to also force it to quit. What's happening? How do I fix this problem?

The info given below might help but if it doesn't, I'm sure other people will give you useful suggestions.
Corrupt preferences can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be one of the first things you do using this free app.

Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.

  • After Leopard install, CAn't open Final Cut

I did an archive and install for Leopard. SInce then, I lost my Final CUt Express ANd Final Cut Pro registration info. They act as though I've never opened them before and are asking for my serial numbers. I'm assuming that the info is somewhere in my "previous systems" folder. What do I need? Where do I find it?

You should ask in the Final Cut discussion area. I didn't have any problem using Final Cut Express after the Leopard upgrade.
AFAIK you will need to dig out the boxes and user guides for those products to get the serial numbers.
