Can't open 'Help' in CS5 programs on trial

installed CS5 on brand new windows 7.  opened Premiere and tried to browse the help subjects.  A screen with 'community help online' came up but the actual help topics did not appear.  After MANY tech phone calls and 2 different supervisors, finally have come to understand that there is some sort of error on the installation of the help component. ?!  Was told that upon purchase tech support would provide 'protocols' and instruction for 'opening' the programs' help information.  I was told that this is not singular to my experience.  I was told to rummage around in the discussions and there was/is direction about how to open the help in the trial version.  This is very aggravating.  I had the first CS version put out 5 years ago.  But now with the 64 bit/windows 7 requirements I had to overhaul my OS to try the trial.  The days are ticking away and I need to see the whole program before committing the $, not peanuts you know, to purchase.  Anyone know how to open or get around the installation error for the 'help' in the trial version? 

You can try a system restore to a point before the update. If you're lucky, it might work, but I often find System Restore will fail when you need it the most.

    In Java 1.5, you can use the JVM's own monitoring APIs to examine what other JVMs are running on the system, and what applications they're running.
    It's general and powerful, but complex. The socket/file/whatever approach is cleaner, and probably more suited to your usage.
    Don't bother trying to use the Windows task manager for this sort of thing. You have to write messy native code, and it isn't reliable after all that anyway.

    When you updated to Mavericks and qualified for the free iWork apps and then installed them, the old iWork apps were rounded up and put into a folder name iWork' 09 and the three new versions of the apps are scattered in the apps folder in alphabetical order.

  • I can't open any of my programs

    When I turn my laptop on, it takes a long time to boot and when it does, even though I can move my cursor around, I can't open any of the programs. I couldn't even turn it off properly. I had to just shut it down by holding the power button. Any suggestions? I'm really frustrated.

    If XP, quite a few people have problems.  One resolution is to install the older 1.7.2 version instead (which also avoids various other bugs).

  • Help!  Can't open files in all programs since installing version cue upgrade

    Please help. A few days ago I got some pop up (I'm in windows XP) saying updates were available for 2 adobe things. I just chose yes and kept working. Now, I can't open files in any of my CS3 programs. I have lost 4 days of productivity and fear losing my mind next!! after doing some research, it appears alot of people are having trouble since uploading some version cue upgrade for cs3. I followed their suggestions and unchecked VC in photoshop (my first offender) and suddenly I could open files again. But now I can't in Illustrator, but in preferences, it does not have VC checked.
    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the whole package. I've tried just uninstalling VC. Nothing's working and I'm having major deadline problems now.

    try downloading another free app that you've never purchased..  Seems like a weird idea, but sometimes this actually does the trick.

    I can not open any files in Photoshop.  I can open them in Bridge or LR.  If I open a file in Camera Raw and try to go to Photoshop, PS opens and just sits there and looks at me as if I opened the program only.

    Is this a new installation that has never worked, or is this a problem that has cropped up recently?
    In any case, there are two things you can do that between them have a very good chance of getting things working for you.
    1.  As a diagnostic, click Edit - Preferences - Performance, and uncheck (disable) the [ ] Enable OpenGL Drawing setting, then close and reopen Photoshop.  If this corrects the problem, then chances are good that your display driver needs to be updated.  To do so, go to the web site of the maker of your video card (e.g., nVidia or ATI) and follow the links to the driver download that matches your hardware and operating system.  When you've updated the driver and rebooted your system, re-enable the OpenGL Drawing setting (remembering to close and restart Photoshop) then re-test.
    2.  Clear all Photoshop preferences to standard defaults.  To do this, press and hold the Control, Shift, and Alt keys IMMEDIATELY after cold-starting Photoshop from its shortcut or menu entry.  If you're quick enough, it will prompt you.  You'll need to go through all the preferences again to ensure any customizations you want are re-done.

    I can`t open files in Ai CS5.1 . This problem has appeared the last week, I have been using this program every week for the last two years. The message I get is: The file was generated by a newer version of Illustrator.
    I have tried to download CS6, but the message I get is: You don`t need this update.
    So what can I do to make this work??

    In addition to what Scott and PrintFusion said, the offending file(s) could have been created in either CS6 or CC.
    In the latter case you will need to download the CC trial (you can use that for CS6 files as well, but there is no need to squander that option before you have some CC files do deal with).

    An easier option may be to ask for a CS5 version when you receive files from others with CS6 or CC. Also, if you do that, any version induced change in the files will be on them.

    Yes, it seems like a problem with the main catalog.  I haven't seen a failed conversion before that didn't write a conversion log.  So there aren't many clues to go on.  I have just one more suggestion -- run the utility psedbtool on your PSE 6 catalog:

    Because you have both PSE 6 and 8 installed, you'll have to run it specially:
    1. Start PSE 6 and do Help > System Info to find the folder path of your PSE 6 catalog folder.
    2. Start a command prompt.
    3. Type these two commands:
    cd c:\psedbtool
    .\psedbtool -printVolumeTable > output.log
    4. Copy and paste the contents of c:\psedbtool\output.log here.
