Can't open https pages

I have safari 1.3.2 and os 10.3.9. I cannot open any https pages on safari, but can on internet explorer. I have tried clearing the cache, but it didn't help. What else can I do?
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

hi~
well... i'll answer u by narrating my story to u...
april 2003 i bought this lovely Powerbook... it came with Jaguar...
quite soon after that there was Panther released...
i told myself... i don't feel the 'need' of going out there and buying that....'
so i stayed with Jaguar.... from 2003 til 2005.... i didn't have much trouble using Jaguar when lots of people were using Panther.... (and websites were already implementing new stuff that required me to upgrade the OS X)
then i said: well.. i now need the upgrade cuz the 'two-hundred-something new features' and the 'new things that Jaguar would never have' were leaving my PowerBook quite behind.... and i needed to view some websites and do some other things (that i don't remember now) that Jaguar would not let me do...
so i bought Tiger... (so now im planning to buy either: every other OS X, so that i can 'save some 130 bucks' , or when i would feel the desperate need of upgrading when some new feature becomes a 'must requirement' to run some things...)

  • Can't open https pages on web

I have an iMac running OS10.3.9 Safari does not open http pages at all. The following message: "Safari can't open page "http://www.(whatever website) because it couldn't establish a secue connection to the server "(whatever website). I have exhausted the Safari & MAC help without success. This started a few weeks ago. Needless to say I have been using a different browswer to access these websites but would like to use Safari again.
    Thank you for any help

    I hope guessing is allowed.
Your behind a proxy server -- disable it.
You running a third-party firewall -- disable it.
Hawaiian_Starman posts the following and it work for many people.
Quit Safari and add DNS server numbers to your System Preferences ->Network panel.
Select your type of connection and then select Advanced.
In the DNS servers panel enter 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 if you live in the US and click Apply.
Outside the US - use 208.67.222.220 and 208.67.220.222 and click Apply.
Launch Safari and from the Safari menu select Empty Cache - try the url's again.
    Good luck,

  • Safari can't open the page https

Frustrating to say the least. About a week ago whilst in Google mail, Safari failed to open an email instead it opened a page displaying the message Safari can’t open the page “https"//mail.google.com" etc
A page refresh also failed to open the page as did a my attempt to "Sign out".
Later that day the same problem occurred when I was using my bank's website. Oddly, when I turned to Camino and it too failed to open Googlemail and the bank's site. On my MacBook both sites worked from both applications. Add if I use a different user account on my Mac Pro, I don't have the problem.
My account is a “Standard” user. A logout and back in and it works again, a reboot and it works again but after a couple of hours the problem returns:
Any help welcomed as the following steps have failed to resolve the issue:
    Empty Safari cache
    Reset Safari
Uninstall Safari 4.0 beta and re-install Safari 3
    Re-install Safari 4.0 beta
Swaped ethernet connection on my Mac Pro
    Verify Disk Permissions
    Repair Disk Permissions
Delete website history with "Adobe, Website Storage Settings panel"
    Reset router
    Rebooted Smoothwall
    ClamXav found nothing
    DNSChanger Removal Tool found nothing
iServices Trojan Removal Tool found nothing
    removed .GlobalPreferences.plist
    Thx
    John

    Hi John
Google Mail has been problematic on Safari 4. There are a number of threads in the Safari 4 Beta forum addressing the issue.
Thanks for posting the steps you have taken so far.
In a broader sense, security certificates are at the root of secured sites functioning. Those certificates are part of the Keychain file in HD>System>Library>Keychains. Perhaps, the keychain file needs repair. Open Keychain Access in your Applications>Utilities folder. In the Keychains Menu, select "Keychain First Aid">repair. If any errors appear, rerun until you get a clean pass.
If no errors appear, you may have to reestablish the keychain entries in your Standard account. Do you have administrative privileges assigned to that account?
Also, I'm not familiar with Smoothwall's operation/setup, however, some tweaking of its settings may be necessary. Here's some dated technospeak about Smoothwall and Safari.

    petriejb,
    welcome to Discussions!
The LLBean site loads just fine for me. Besides, the "lost network connection" error and the inability to load Apple feedback page make me think the problem is not necessarily with Java or with one site.
Can you load other pages fine? Please post back.

Mountain Lion is the second release of OS X to be delivered via the Mac App Store. Like with Lion, users can create their own bootable USB key installer to use as a recovery disk or to install Mountain Lion on multiple Macs without needing to download the 4GB installer multiple times.
Ars Technica has an excellent walk-through using either the Disk Utility application that is included on every Mac, or the newly updated Lion Diskmaker app that automates the process of creating a bootable install key.
The biggest catch to the whole process is to make a copy of the Mountain Lion installer before actually installing Mountain Lion, otherwise the installer will need to be redownloaded from the Mac App Store.

  • You are not connected to the internet - Safari can't open the page

After wake up Mac OS X 10.6.8 from sleep, Safari 5.1.7 on Ethernet does not connect to web servers:
"You are not connected to the internet" "Safari can't open the page"
The issue disappears after restarting the Mac. Is there a way to fix it besides restarting?

Some instructions for removing Community Toolbar are available in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15868085#15868085

  • Since buying Pages 5.2  can't open any Pages 09 files

Since purchasing and updating to Pages 5.2 I can't open any Pages 09 files.  Tried various things, nothing working.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • Can't Open Some Pages

The following is a problem with LLBean website...can anybody help?
Once again...Have done everything according to Java and according to Apple. Tried to install Java 2 version 5.0 Release 1 and got the following error message:
Cannot install J2SE5.0 Release 1 package on this volume.
This volume contains a newer version of Java 1.5.
It doesn't make sense to me to see a message, "This volume contains a newer version of Java 1.5", when I'm trying to install Java 2!
Then I go to the Java Preferences Utility and made preferred version J2SE5.0, then J2SE1.4.2 next. Note that this utility says that I already have J2SE5.0 installed. Go figure!
Still having problems loading individual pages...reported bug to Apple on their automatic "Report Bug to Apple" facility on the Safari menu.
For instance...on your website when I go to "Men'sOuterwear Winter Outerwear Guide Jackets & Parkas" and click on an individual jacket I get the following message:
    Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=1&catalo gId=1&langId=-1&categoryId=44900&from=GM&noDept=&guideId=6586&moduleId=6600&feat =6600-dg”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
I tried to send the above to the Apple Website for Safari Help and got the following message:
    Safari can’t open the page.
Safari could not open the page “http://feedback.apple.com/bin/nph-fb.pl” because the server stopped responding.

    petriejb,
    welcome to Discussions!
The LLBean site loads just fine for me. Besides, the "lost network connection" error and the inability to load Apple feedback page make me think the problem is not necessarily with Java or with one site.
Can you load other pages fine? Please post back.

  • I can't open the page of youtube with my MacBookPro (OSX 10.7 Lion) through VPN in China

I am woking in mainland China, so I have to use VPN to open the page of youtube when I am in China. However, since November 2012, I can't open it again with my MacBook Pro (OSX10.7.5 Lion) through the VPN account. But  I can open the page of youtube with my old PowerBook G4 (OSX10.4.11 Tiger) through the same VPN account. Why? Can anyone help me to fix this problem? Thanks

Dear Linc Davis, I can open the other pages except those are blocked by the Chinese government ( youtube, vimeo, etc ). But I don't understand why my PowerBook G4 running with Tiger and Saferi 4.1.3 can open those pages with the same connection and the same VPN account ( as I run both Macbooks side by side since this problem occurred ).
When I try to open youtube, it appears a blank page with the statement of

  • Can't open certain pages.

I just got an iMac and have began to use Safari. I really like it.. but oddly, I can't open certain pages that I can on other browsers. (tested this).
xbox.com - log in (or any of the Windows Live ID pages) ex: https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct=1342238079&rver=6.2.6 289.0&wp=MBI&wreply=https:%2F%2Flive.xbox.com:443%2Fxweb%2Flive%2Fpassport%2Fset Cookies.ashx%3Frru%3Dhttps%253a%252f%252flive.xbox.com%252fen-US%252fAccount%252 fSignin%253freturnUrl%253dhttp%25253a%25252f%25252fwww.xbox.com%25252fen-US%2525 2f&lc=1033&id=66262&cbcxt=0
    OR
Any of the mlb.com gameday pages, such as ex: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_07_13_arimlb_chnmlb_1&mode=wra p
I don't know what could cause this. The iMac is brand new, and I am not running any programs/scripts.
    Help?

On the xbox log in, I get redirected to the link I provided which just shows a blank white screen with the Microsoft Inc. in green at the top of the URL bar. I get redirected after going to xbox.com -> sign in (at the top right). Cannot understand why.
For mlb.com, I only load the banner in 'gameday', opposed to the reviews, previews, box score, etc.
Makes no sense because on this same Mac, Chrome and Firefox can load these pages.

  • Safari can not open the page

When I tried to redeem apps via FreeAppDaily (app) and FreeMyApps (web) today.
when it jumps from FreeAppDaily and FreeMyApps to the redeem page, It pops up "URL is invalid, so Safari can not open the page".
I had successfully redeem apps in FreeMyApps previously.
I tried to restart, change wifi network, clear cookie and reset network setting, but they are useless.

Yes, I can access other Web sites in Safari
I can download free apps through FreeAppDaily and FreeMyApps.
for FreeAppDaily, I get the redeem code from the app and then redeem the app from AppStore sucessfully.
but for FreeMyApps, I sent a email to the developer, the thier reply cannot solve my problem.
