Can't open iCal

I recently had to revert back to OS X 10.4.11 from OS X 10.5.4, because of issues involving third party music apps, and now I can't get iCal to open at all. I've read the messages about crashes, with the suggestions to empty the Sources folder and to refresh the iCal plist file. I tried deleting the contents of the Sources folder, and that didn't help. I found that there was no iCal plist file in my Preferences folder. I tried dragging the one from my backup and that didn't help. Ical just won't open. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Never mind. I also tried reinstalling iCal from the DVD, but it wasn't overwriting the newer version (3.01) from OS X 10.5.4. When I trashed that version, the older version (2.0) was installed and then opened right up.

After updating Mountain Lion, I can't open iCal. It keeps reopening and sending report to Apple if I press restart.
    What can I do?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    Open Finder and delete:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCal
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist
If it doesn't help, press Command and R keys in boot and reinstall OS X

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • I Can´t open iCal

How can I make to run iCal properly?
It´s frustrating when trying to open iCal, it only appears the Beach Ball and stays there.
I have this problem only on my macbook pro.
Is there any way to re-install this app?
    Thanks,
    David

    David,
You can delete the .plist file on your Desktop.
I am not sure I understand the current problem, but perhaps it may be advisable to try the procedures listed in Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
Can you get back to the the very first repeating event. If so, try deleting it.
Also go to System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats>Region: and set/re-set the appropriate "Region."

  • Can't Open iCal application...

I haven't been able to open iCal for some time now. Have been researching fixes but have been unsuccessful. Tried Safe Rebooting, looking for accidental attachments to emails, and logging in as a guest, but have still been unable to open the application.
This is the message I'm getting in the terminal.
2010-02-12 12:12:00.793 iCal[422:10b] Unable to load nib file: MainMenu, exiting
    logout
    Any suggestions?

I tried to reinstall iCal from the Mac OSX installation disc just like you suggested. However, when I get to step 9 below, selecting iCal, it won't let me check the box, or any for that matter. It says "skip" beside it, under the Action. I didn't bother install the Combo Update because the directions on the other thread said to reinstall iCal first. Any other suggestions?
    1. Insert your Leopard Installation disk into the computer.
    2. The disk will appear on your desktop.
    3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.
    4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
    5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
    6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
    7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
    8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
    9. Select (✓) iCal.
    10. Click (Continue).
    11. After iCal has been reinstalled, download and install the OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update.

  • Can't open ical preferences

    Hello!
I recently had the harddrive problems where I got the gray screen of death.  Went in to the Apple store, got it fixed.  Now, my ical is empty.  I tried to go to iCal preferences to set up all my google calendars but the iCal preferences will not open or appear.  Any suggestions?

    Greetings Nikki,
Make sure your system is fully up to date with all software updates (Apple > Software Update).
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in iCal.
    If that does not help:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • Can't open iCal appointment invitation in iPhone

  • Can't open ical or Safari after reinstall

Hi. After unsuccessfully trying to install 10.4 (old Norton Utilities hung it up, trashed that, still didn't work, decided to wait,) I reinstalled software from original G4 Powerbook cd, then ran software update several times, till it offered no more updates. Also repaired permissions.
Safari and ical will not open. (Other Apple programs work fine: Mail, Address Book, iphoto etc.)
Thanks very much for any suggestions.

Just noticed System Preferences also won't open.
I should mention: when I reinstalled 10.3, I chose to save the unsuccessfully-installed system 10.4 as "previous system" (the other choice appeared to be to erase the drive & start over.) Now I see there's a Preferences folder in "Previous System>Library", but in the new System folder>Library there is no Preferences folder.

I cannot open iCal because of a problem. Can anybody help me? The computer will not allow it to open and sends a message to apple each time. The icon has gone from the dock, but ical works on my iPad and I am afraid to sync it with my computer in case it wipes everything .

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2).

  • How can I make iCal in Lion open to the current date?

I just updated from Snow Leopard to Lion and have had all of the frustrations with changes to iCal that are well-documented here and elsewhere.  One issue I haven't seen addressed, however, is a new behavior after quitting and re-starting.
Previously, no matter what month/day/week I was viewing when I quit iCal, it would open the next time to the current (month/day/week).  Now, it opens to whatever date(s) I was last viewing when I quit.
This is highly annoying - 99% of the time, if I quit iCal while looking at (some date 6 months into the future), that is NOT the date I'm looking for when I re-launch.  It's much more consistent behavior to always re-open to the current date, in whatever view (month/day/week) I previously used.  So if today I launch iCal and I'm thinking about adding an event a month in the future, I open iCal, change to month view if needed, and go forward one month.  This is the way iCal always worked previously.  Instead, the version in Lion might leave me on any random month, depending on what I was doing when I closed the program the last time, and so I have to figure out "what month/week am I looking at?" before I know how to navigate.  Very irritating.  (As is the move of the forward/back buttons away from the month/day/week buttons, necessitating that I move the cursor to two different areas of the screen in order to navigate.  Whose idea was THAT?)
I haven't found a preference to resolve this bizarre behavior change.  Can anyone help?

    Hi,
I don't know of a preference, but have you used ⌘-T in iCal?
    Best wishes
    John M

  • Why can't I open iCal preferences?

I have followed the advice on here which says to delete the ical.plist file in the preferences folder but there is no such file there. I have done a search for the file also and come up empty. It was working fine until I tried to sync ical with google calendars and somewhere in that process it stopped working. I have reinstalled the application but I still can't do anything with ical. The application opens but I can't enter an event or open preferences and probably anything else either. I am using Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are can be reasons PDFs cannot be opened. For example, some forms created with Lifecycle Designer cannot be opened.
Are you sure the file is a PDF? Can you open it in Adobe Reader or Acrobat on a Mac or PC? Does it give an error message when you try to open it?
