Can't open ID files in CS6

Why can't I open my ID CS5 files in ID CS6?

I figured it out, but here was my problem in case someone else encounters the same issue. I was in ID CS6 application and when trying to open a file they were all shadowed. I clicked on the ENABLE drop down and picked "All Documents" instead of "All Readable Documents" and they all lit up. I'm not sure why it was like that being a fresh install, but I'm glad it was an easy fix! Thanks for answering me. I'm bookmarking this site incase I run into any real issues.

The D800E is definitely supported in Camera Raw 7.1 which is compatible with CS6.
Which version of Camera Raw are you running?

can you open freehand files in CS6? I have been using both illustrator & freehand for 15 years & have thousands of work files being freehand.
It seems very disappointing to have to keep an old version of illustrator just to open these files. I also find it interesting that many of the key tools that freehand had over illustrator are not translated into the newer versions of illustrator. Something simple like you still can't have a unique picture bullet • before text in illustrator. In freehand you could cut & paste any graphic into the text you were designing.

No. The conversion plugin didn't make it into CS6 so the last import function was CS5.5

At this point, it is the only way to make your files convert into Illustrator although I've had some luck with exporting to EPS or (if your FH graphics are simple enough) save as AI format. Keep your eyes on this project however : http://www.stagestack.com/

As a fellow FreeHand user, I couldn't agree more. Other users of both programs have said this endlessly over the years here. A litany of features are still m.i.a. since FHMX was acquired years ago... including inline graphics. It's almost comical.

Hi, I'm trying to open .3DS files in Photoshop CS6 extended, but it is giving me the error message: "could not complete your request because 3d functionality is currently disabled due OpenGL being disabled"
At first it opened a few files and worked fine, then it just stopped opening them and now only displays the error message.

You may have to do some homework on the web. The onboard graphics I believe is meant to power 1 monitor. Hard to believe it could power 3. Even in a video card you have to get a high end version to have enough power to do that. But almost all video cards have 2 connectors.
If you look at the back of the nVidia card it should have 2 connectors for monitors, but they are probably not the same, so you may need an adapter for one. If you do not have the manual type in the model number on line to see how it works.

Can't open IDML files on CS6 or 5.5 Please help

I just purchased and downloaded IDCS6. I have updated all the plugins. I "saved as" IDCS4 or old, a document I was working on. Now I can't open with either version of ID. Please help! How can I get this document to open? I am using Windows, 64-bit OS

I received the .idml fileyou sent, and it won't open here, either. It looks to me as if it may not be complete. Since you didn't send the .indd file I can't do much more.
I see though that you managed to get the file to export properly. In spite of it being listed now under the Save As menu, making .idml files is an Export function and it is a background task so even though the dialog closes and you can go back to work immediately, the file may not be ready. There is a samll inidcator icon of scrolling horizontal lines that appears on the right of the Menu bar while background tasks are in progress, and you can open the Background Tasks panel from Window > Utilities for a real progress bar. I suspect you may have simply tried to open the original .idml file before it completed.
As far as opeing as Untitled, that unfortuantely, is expected behavior, and it is a pain in the neck. You are creating a new file as far as ID is concerned, so it names it Untitled. When you save, you should probably use a new name to avoid overwriting the original .indd file.

Can't open video files in CS6

When I try to open a video file (tried it with .avi, .MOV, and .wmv) I get an error message that says 'Could not complete your request because the DynamicLink Media Server is not available'.
What can I do to fix this? Was really looking forward to the video editing...

I have PSD cc, had cs6 ex I did update, can't open ANY files, reinstalled, same..dead programs

I work in PSD cs6 ex constantly, recently i updated to cc. Today I can't open any file, Recent, old, make a new, open from library etc, NOTHING will open, i request a file, programs act like they are deaf. They arent locked up, just dont open or create files. Everything on my com is updated. I uninstalled and reinstalled and same. Also I no longer can install cs6 just CC.

Even the term "I request a file" is ambiguous.
Please provide more detailed information. Ideally, show some screen grabs showing what you are seeing, and identify just what isn't working.
Best advice, based on no specific information provided, is to uninstall using the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool / process to really get everything cleaned up, then reinstall.

A Cloud subscription SHOULD always show you the most recent updates, so you may then choose to do the install

Can only open .indd files within InDesign CS6

I am using InDesign CS6 (cloud version) on Windows XP. I can only open .indd files by opening InDesign CS6, doing File>Open, and then browsing for the file.
If I try to go to the folder where the .indd file is located (without opening InDesign CS6), and double-click on it, it acts like it doesn't know what kinf of file it is.
Another co-worker of mine is experiencing the same thing on Windows 7.
Does anyone have suggestions on what to try to fix this?

Uninstall, run the clean tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3), and reinstall. The symptoms you describe are typical if the icon handler .dll file is damaged.
Try turning off your anti-virus and spyware scanners, and anthing else not required to run the system before you reinstall.

Can't open RAW file when moved from Lightroom to Photoshop CS4

I have a Canon 6D and recently purchased Lightroom 4.4 so that I could open my Canon RAW files. They do open in Lightroom, but when I move them to PHotoshop CS4 I can't open the files. I get a message telling me I can't open them. Any suggestions?

I don't know Macs so can't give you advice if CS6 will run on your Mac.
But since you have Lr5 you won't need to open Raw images in Photoshop. Lr5 gives you all the Raw editing capabilities that you need. I don't think CS6 will add anything to Raw editing capabilities that Lr5 doesn't have - although I don't know CS6 since I am still working with CS5.
You still can send images from Lr5 to CS4 for editing but you have to select <Render using Lightroom> in the dialog that says that the "Camera raw plug-in 8.1 may be required ...". BTW: what this means is that the Camera raw plug-in 8.1 is required for Photoshop, not for Lr.
When you select <Render using Lightroom> Lr will create a TIFF / PSD from the Raw image and send it to CS4 for editing.
If you had CS6 Lr would send the Raw image to CS6 but on saving the edits in CS6 a TIFF / PSD would be created.
The only drawback with using CS4 is that the options <Merge to Panorama ...>, <Merge to HDR ...>, and <Open as layers> will be greyed-out and are not available.
If instead of selecting <Render using Lightroom> in the dialog box you would select <Open anyway>, nothing would happen. CS4 would open but the image would not be displayed in CS4.
