Can't Open Indesign CS6 Files In CC

How do you open indesign CS6 files in CC?

That sounds like there is no file association for .indd, and I'll bet you uninstalled CS6 or some other older version after you installed CC. If that's the case, uninstall and reinstall CC to repair the damage to common files and the file association.

  • I can't open InDesign CS6 files by double clicking on them.

I have changed Preferences in the application and have changed them in Windows, too.  The app opens but does not open the file.  Anyone else have a fix for this?

Check the registry. The standard key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.indd should be "Indesign.Document".
Then in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document there should be a standard key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document\Shell\Open\Command with the path to Indesign, like this "D:\Tools\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6\InDesign.exe" "%1".
    Then it should actually work.
In case the icons are wrong, there are two keys in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document\Icons\Default that can be fixed.

  • Will I be able to open InDesign CS6 files from the latest CC version?

Considering Cloud purchase and want to check compatibility. Will I be able to open InDesign CS6 files from the latest CC version? Thanks for any advice on this.

You can open files in CC from CS6 and earlier.
Due to updates to the text engines you might notice a text reflow - note that text won't reflow until it's interacted with.

  • Can't open InDesign CS6

I am trying to open up InDesign CS6 which I downloaded 3 years ago. At one point I did have InDesign CC but I never used it and canceled my "subscription" about a year ago. Now when I try to open InDesign CS6, it automatically takes me to the Adobe "Renew Subscription" window for CC. I have never had this problem with Photoshop or Illustrator and I used/have both CS6 and CC for those applications. HOW DO I OPEN InDesign CS6??

uninstall everything cc on your computer and then run the cleaner for cc, Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
then open id cs6>click help>activate>enter your serial number.
if that fails, uninstall id cs6, clean for cs6 and then reinstall id cs6.

  • Can I open Premier CS6 file created on PC, in CS5 on Mac

I am working on a video simultaneously with another editor, the idea is that we both edit and both projects should hopefully be vastly different and then once complete to make a master project and take the best cuts of both projects.  Initially we were both on CS5 however the other editor has upgraded to CS6.  He is editing on a PC and I am editing on a Mac.  I am not worried about what CS6 might have to offer, all I want is to be able to use his cuts in my version of CS5. Will This work? Will the projects be able to open accross the different OS and also backwards from CS6 to CS5?

there is no full compatibility between OS
So basically this means you can still open a PC project on the Mac and vice versa. Using Final Cut Pro and CS5 I was able to export an XML file for premiere and open the project in Premiere Pro CS5 without missing any transitions. The audio tacks was just as they were in FCP!
There is no backward compatibility in Adobe video products except Photoshop and Illustrator.

  • Can I Open a CS6 File in CS5?

So I guess the question asks it all.
Can I open an Adobe Dreamweaver html doucment in CS5 if I've made it in CS6?
Just wondering cause I want to do some work on a project at home.
Thanks in advance, hope this question isn't too noobish (it probably is...)

Absolutely.  You might not see all the new GUI features (ie: fluid grid), but the code will remain the same.

  • I can't open InDesign CS5 file in CS6

I created a document at work in CS5. I saved it as an INDD file and transferred it so I could work on it at home. However I have CS6 and whenever I try to open this file, my InDesign loads to about 80% and then just freezes. I can't do or click anything. It never crashes, just gets to the point where I have to ctrl+alt+dlt each time.
    I am using a Windows 7 computer.
I need to finish this for tomorrow and I don't have access to InDesign CS5 at all to make it an IDML file or fix any fonts.
    What do I do?

Try open as a copy, and/or the script at Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.

Hello, my name is Serena Oden and I install Flash CS6 onto my windows 8.1 Toshiba laptop that’s run 64 bits and 500 GB / 4.00 GB(3.57 GB usable). Photoshop CS5 (64 bit) , After Effect CS6 , and Illustrator CS6(64) works fine on my laptop and Flash CS6 runs just fine recently in early to mid-month of February of 2015. When I open a new flash file or recent flash file, and took forever to load up file and  said “not responding” . The percentage of the CPU or Memory of my laptop in the task manager became high that I have to end task of my flash, can you please help solve this problem. Thank you , Serena oden

    Hi David,
Can you please attach your log file to help us figure out what's going wrong? Here's how you can find it:
    1. Open up the Terminal (in Applications/Utilities).
    2. Type the following and then press enter:
    cp Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Flash\ Catalyst/workspace/.metadata/.log Desktop/log
    3. You should see a file called log on your Desktop. Attach this file to your post.
    Thanks!

  • Can you open InDesign CS files into CS5?

    Hi all,
My former company wishes to upgrade their ooooooooooold software to the latest version:) They currently have InDesign CS and want to make the leap to CS5. The question is...will it be possible to open their current CS files into CS5 once they make the switch? This is really important of course.
Thank you very much in advance for your help:)
    Christine

    Did you try https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?ref=sup&product=indesign?
Anyhow, if it fails, it should be the latter, or something else busted; Creative Suite Trial Versions says:
    CS5.5 trials
Creative Suite 5.5 product trials will be available for download soon.  Be notified when they are available.

    CS5 trials for suites
Trials of CS5 products are still available for download, below.

  • Can't open Indesign CS6 doc in CC

Hi, I've been having no trouble up to now opening a document I worked on in CS6 in the test version of CC I downloaded for a free one-month trial. But today I copied the doc from my usb key to my desktop, and when I try to open it in CC, I get a message saying "Impossible to open".
I don't have CS 6 here at home and really don't want to trek to the office on the weekend to work on it.
    Any ideas?
    thanks
    A

There's a good chance the file is damaged. Removing a USB drive before it's finished writing is a common problem.

  • Can't open InDesign CC file says need version 10.1. InDesign App says it's to date.

Adobe App Manager tells me I am up to date.

Please go to Desktop publishing | Download free Adobe InDesign CC trial to download the latest InDesign.

  • Can not open InDesign cs6 from the Adobe Master Collections CS6.

I receive a window showing Confituration error:

I've uninstalled all Adobe programs, even ran the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool.  It didn't seem to solve the problem.  Would really appreciate any pointers.

I'd call Adobe Tech Support. Installation questions for current products are handled free.

  • Can't open indesign CS6 program

It crashes on startup after stating "executing startup services". Have tried restarting my com. But still the same.
    Im using windows btw.

So what are you doing to diagnose the problem? You need to remove third party plugins, create and try a new user account, try starting in Safe Mode to eliminate conflicting programs, diagnose the fonts (Troubleshoot font problems | Windows), etc.
It might be as simple as a conflict with your Anti-virus...
