Can"t open iPhoto after downloading Yosemite and trying to download new iPhoto

I downloaded Yosemite to my MacBook.  Then tried to download the iPhoto upgrade.  Did not perform according to list on the upgrade instructions.  Can't use my old iPhoto and can't access the new iPhoto.

What version of iPhoto do you have?

Help I can't open safari after downloading Yosimite

    Remove Genieo manually:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987
First follow these steps to stop the Genieo or InstallMac processes, if they're running. Be particularly careful to restart your Mac when instructed.
    Open the Activity Monitor app:
You can use Spotlight (Command-Space) to search for "Activity Monitor," then choose Activity Monitor from the search results.
In the Activity Monitor window, click the CPU tab, then click Process Name at the top of that column to sort the list alphabetically.
Look for the process "Genieo." Select it, then click the Force Quit button in the upper-left corner of the window.
Look for the process "InstallMac." Select it, then click the Force Quit button.
    Quit Activity Monitor.
From the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
Type /private/etc/launchd.conf in the text field, then press Return.
If the file is on your Mac, a window opens with the file you searched for already selected. Drag the file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, then continue to the next steps, below.Remove the files related to Genieo:
Select each item in the list below, starting with /Applications/Genieo.
    Choose Edit > Copy.
From the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
Choose Edit > Paste to paste the line you copied into the text field, then press Return.
If the file is on your Mac, a window opens with the file you searched for already selected. Drag the file to the Trash.
Repeat the steps above for each item in the following list. If you get a message that the folder can't be found, continue to the next item in the list./Applications/Genieo
    /Applications/InstallMac/Applications/Uninstall Genieo
    /Applications/Uninstall IM Completer.app~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
    /usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib/usr/lib/libgenkitsa.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckit.dylib/usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.genieo.global.settings.plist~/Library/SavedState/com.genieo.RemoveGenieoMac.savedState
Now do the same for each folder in the following list. When these folders open, no file will be selected. Instead, select all items (Command-A) in the folder and drag them all to the Trash.~/Library/Application Support/Genieo/
    ~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer/~/Library/Saved Application State/com.genieo.RemoveGenieoMac.savedState/
Restart your Mac, then continue to the next steps, below.
From the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
Type /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework in the text field, then press Return.
If the file is on your Mac, a window opens with the file you searched for already selected. Drag the file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, then choose Finder > Empty Trash to permanently remove the files.

  • Can't open mail after installing yosemite

    Hi,
I just istalled the yosemite on my mac, and now I can't open the mail.
Have tried sever times. Everythings seems good in the beginning and downloads all the messages. But then  I get a message that the Upgrade failed and that the index is damadged. It says I can repare it by opening mail again, but the same thing keeps happening.
    Regards,

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take the action that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Can't open Safari after downloading update this morning

    Macbook pro, OSX Mavericks
Can't open Safari. Did an Apple update this morning and when i click on Safari, it just bounces. won't open

If you installed "CleanMyMac," the instructions for removing it are linked to my last comment. If it's something else, see below. If you don't know what you installed, ask for instructions.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

  • Can't open Photoshop after installing Yosemite

Hi all, Not sure if this in the right place? I've got a Macbook Pro and have recently just installed the Yosemite operating system. After installing it, I have tried to open Photoshop but it is not allowing me to do so. Photoshop tells me to install Java 6.0 - even though I've already done this twice! Can anyone advise please?

Did you delete Photoshop's preferences before re-installing? If you didn't, then you ended up rightwhere you started after re-installing.  Uninstalling and re-installing does not delete the corrupted preference files.
In addition, do not forget what I said:
[…delete Photoshop's preferences before re-installing…] thenUninstall Photoshop, run Adobe CS Cleaner Tool, Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility, install Photoshop from scratch, update it, run Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility AGAIN
Finally, apply all the available updates again, as the re-install wil instal the ancient, original CS5 version.
Have you actually done all of this as already instructed in this thread?  If not, then please do not post again until you have done so.

  • TS2363 Help can't open iTunes after download

I was able to download iTunes, but when I click on it I receive: Do you want to allow the following program to make changes? Program name Apple. When I select Yes, nothing happens. Any suggestions?

I am having the same issue. I was able to use iTunes to rent a movie, watch the movie, and since then, it shuts down less than 10 seconds after start up. Is there something wrong with the newest version of iTunes?
Can anyone tell me why iTunes is shutting down automatically and what can i do to fix it?

  • Can't open itunes after downloading latest update

After installing latest ITunes update, the ITunes Store doesn't open.  Additionally, the Apple Device Manager program tries to run in the background consuming 50% of my CPU while never doing anything.  I have tried the Netsh Winsock reset, and I have tried removing all the Apple programs (in order) after updating Windows.  Actully I have tried both things multiple times over the past few weeks, and yet I still have the same problem.  ITunes Store does nothing, and I have to end the process for Apple Device Manager.  I have tried to remove the device manager program, but it still locks out the store. I have tried going to a restore point only to find that the Library file is not recognizable.
I am not sure if it is an issue, but the latest download (10.5) mentions 64 Bit, while my windows 7 operating system is a 32 bit (not sure what that means, but thought I would throw it out there).
Any other suggestions are deeply appreciated!

Just to point out that there is another thread on this subject and Apple are on the case:

  • Can't open indesign after download.

downloaded indesign cc. cannot open app and receive error message: Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Ensure that you have appropriate permissions and then restart Adobe InDesign.

    Hi,
As rightly said by Mylenium, you need to set the permissions on the Preferences folder.
You can refer to the thread below for the same as well:

  • ADE 2.0 - Can't open installer after download

I am trying to install ADE 2.0 on a Windows XP platform. After the installer downloads it will not open and install ADE. Any ideas?

There are some oddities with ADE 2.0 and XP, especially if it is not XP SP3.
Try the older version v 1.7.2 of ADE.
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

  • Can't open firefox after download. What's up with that?

Two weeks ago Firefox quit downloading attachments. Tried every online fix I could find and nothing worked. I uninstalled and installed the latest version. Program seems to download and it installs an icon on the toolbar but when you click on the icon nothing happens. I don't have time at work to debug a defective product. What a colossal waste of time. Why must software companies continue to dick with something that works perfectly and make it more and more complicated and unusable. I hate Internet Explorer but at least it works.

hello dowens, since this can sometimes be caused by malware active on a system, please run a scan with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes], [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner] & [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx microsoft safety scanner].

  • Can't open iTunes after migrating new computer

Can't open iTunes after migrating my old powerbook to my new macbook pro. Get the error message: "The file iTunes Library cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." Help!

Did you install the latest version of iTunes on the new PC? The usual reason for this is that you had a newer version on the old PC.
If you can't get it to work the simplest thing to do is to drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml from the iTunes folder to desktop.
Then start iTunes and use the following link to recreate your library.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
Note you already dragged the library files out of the iTunes folder.

  • Hello, I upgraded to Yosemite (10.10.2) a month ago and everything was fine. Suddenly I can't open iPhoto. There is no error message and nothing happens.  Please can you advise?

Hello, I upgraded to Yosemite (10.10.2) a month ago and everything was fine. Suddenly I can't open iPhoto. There is no error message and nothing happens when I click it.  Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Larry,
When I open the Bonusprint software there is a window on the side with 'LIBRARIES' at the top and I can access my photos and albums from here.  I can still see all my photos in the various albums etc., underneath and when I click on them they open as thumbnails underneath but iPhoto itself is still paralysed even after I quit the Bonusprint software.

  • Firstly, I can't open iPhoto on my macbook as of a few days and could it have anything to do with a problem I have updating my iPhone's software as I've downloaded extra iCloud storage but I still can't get the iPhone to recognise the space for software

Firstly, I can't open iPhoto on my macbook as of a few days and could it have anything to do with a problem I have updating my iPhone's software as I've downloaded extra iCloud storage but I still can't get the iPhone to recognise the space for software

No. With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
For the iPhone issue ask in the iPhone forum.

  • HT5037 I now can't open iPhoto! have just updated it, downloaded everything they asked for and still can't open it!

I now can't open iPhoto! have just updated it, downloaded everything they asked for and still can't open it!

To be able to help, we will need more details.
What is your current iPhoto version, Anthony?  And your MacOS X version? And what was the iPhoto version you upgraded from?
What happens, when you try to open your iPhoto library?
have just updated it, downloaded everything they asked for and still can't open it!
You say, you downloaded everything - did you download the Library upgrader? And did you install and run it? Was there any error message?
If your iPhoto library has been upgraded ny the upgrader, you should be able to upgrade it to your current iPhoto version by double clicking it to launch iPhoto on it. Have you tried that?  What happens when you try?
One problem to check for - iPhoto may be unable to open your iPhoto library, if it is not on a dsk formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled). Check the formatting of the drive with your iPhoto library.

  • I just upgraded from IPhoto7 to 9.5. Now I can't open iPhoto without a downloaded tool to bridge the gap bewteen versions. I downloaded the tool and I still get the message "To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple."

I had to upgrade to Mavericks to send off the iCanendars I made in iPhoto. Then I had to upgrade my IPhoto from 7 to 9.5. Now when I go to open iPhoto I get the message "To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple."  Well, I installed the Upgrader, but I still get the message and can't open iPhoto.  I have tried restarting the computer, but that didn't help.  How do I get the computer to recognize the Upgrader?

You may get more replies in the iPhoto forum.
