There is a framework missing in your System library. You need to reinstall MacOS X to restore the dynamic library:

  • I can't open iPhoto after yosemite upgrade - tried to reinstall, not working! Help!

    Hi
Im new here so please bare with me if I've not included everything needed but I'm really struggling an after trying everything else on every other link I've found Im stuck!
I installed Yosemite a few weeks back. I have tried everything I have read on forums etc... to try to get iPhoto to work but nothing is helping. What am I missing out?
I upgraded iphoto in the ap store. I have tried uninstalling iPhoto as per advice from a other thread and when I re download it it still just has a grey screen with the circle going round an doesn't do anything. All I can do is force quit it.
I have my photos backed up. Im not concerned about getting them or them being wiped from my machine. My theory was to uninstall it and reinstall it fresh as new and just start again. My photo library was huge (talking well over 100,000 photos) so thought it might take a while but left it overnight an still nothing. iMovie and other programs working fine after the update. I just now have nowhere to do quick edits and view my pictures.
    iMac (27-inch, Late 2009),2.66 GHz Intel Core i5,4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
How can I just start again an have a nice fresh iPhoto for me to upload my photos from my backup drive?

    Hi, Léonie,
My iphoto is having the almost the same problem except that these are old iphoto files from 2010-2013... And I backed them up in external drive.
So, after upgrading and letting it repairing, iphoto asked me to quit the application. I'm sure it could be open with older version of iphoto...
Below is what I see step by step.  Please help, I've got quite a few years memories there...
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

  • Can't open iPhoto after Yosemite upgrade MacBook Pro

THe wheel just spins and eventually I have to force quit. I tried resetting the Pram. It's a 2011 15". Need to get into my photos!  I know I can access them in Pictures but I'd like to use iPhoto.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Are you able to create a new library or still get the SWOD (spinning wheel of death)?  If you still get the SWOD try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Can't open iPhoto after an upgrade

    Hi,
I did the iPhoto update yesterday and realized today that I am unable to open iPhoto now.
An iPhoto window appears and says "What photo library do you want to use?" as shown on the picture. But there are no option...
What do I have to do? Have I lost all my pictures saved on iPhoto?
I would like it to be like before, meaning that when I open iPhoto, the application opens automatically with my albums and all.
    Thanks for everyone's help!

This will not help, but I don't think I did a back up. It does not automatically do it?
If it can help we have a Time Machine. Are my files stored there automatically? Can I find my iPhoto from there?
What can I do to recover iPhoto with my pictures? Why did this happen after doing the Update?
Thanks for your kind help Terence!

  • Can't open iphoto after complete reboot.

    Hi!
My computer stoped working a while back and I had the harddrive replaced, now I can't open iphoto after importing it from time mashine. I still have the same OS X (10.6.8) on a Mac Book pro from 2009. I can't buy the new one, or update it, because my OS X is too old and after seeing all the problems with the new system I don't really want to install it. How do I make iphoto work again? When I try to open it, it just says it can't open because of a problem (no, really?).

Is there a crash report?  Have you tried reinstalling it?
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Can't open iPhoto after iMovie 10.0.3 update

    Hi,
I can't open iPhoto after iMovie 10.0.3 update with message:
    iPhoto is being updated
iPhoto can not be opened while it is being updated.
But problem is, that nothing idicate there is some iPhoto update.
    Please help Apple.
    Pavel

I don't understand why first update has almost 2GB and there is also second update which has around 300MB, so I can see two iMovie updates in App Store - Updates.

  • Can't open iPhoto due to upgrade to yosemite

recently upgraded to yosemite and now i can't open iPhoto, it will not let me update or purchase new it simply gives me a message that reads:
Update Unavailable with This Apple ID
This update is not available for this Apple ID either
because it was purchased by a different user or the item
                        was refunded or cancelled.
my main concern is my pictures having the app would be great but losing all those pictures would be devastating

Your photos and the application are totally separate - the iPhoto application is in the Applications folder and contains no photos - your iPhoto library is by default in your pictures folder and by default contains all of your photos - and of course you have  backup of your system since witout one you are 100% guaenteed to lose everything including you photos sooner or later - things fial
Be sure you are logged in under the Apple ID that was used to purchase iPhoto or to set up the computer - if it still dos not work drag the iPhoto application to the trash (do not empty it yet) and then go to the App store and install iPhoto 9.6 - depending on what version you have it may be free or a purchase)

  • Can't open iPhoto after fresh OSX install

I recently re-installed my operating system (on the advice of a Guru) and now I cannot open iPhoto. I moved all my documents, applications, photos (EVERYTHING) to an external hard drive and then re-installed.
Once installed I tried to open iPhoto and received this message:
"You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
So I then proceeded to download updates. I am running version 4.0.3. When I tried the version 5 upgrade it said there were no valid versions of iPhoto in my applications folder. Version 6 upgrade says the same.
Any ideas on what I can do. I can't even load new photos (photos not changed in a newer version of iPhoto). I'm at my whits end.
    Anybody PLEASE help!!!!
    Thanks,
    Matt

Hi, Matthew. The error message you're seeing appears whenever iPhoto 4.x detects an iPhoto Library folder anywhere within its reach that was created by iPhoto 5.x or 6.x. Is it possible that the hard drive on which you backed up all your stuff also contained a library folder created by iP 5 or 6, and you copied that folder to your main drive along with the data that had been on it previously?
Alternatively, is it possible that someone has given you a picture CD burned with iP 5 or 6, and that that CD is in your optical drive now, or that you copied it to your main hard drive before backing up, but never tried to open iPhoto after doing so? iP (any version) creates an iP Library folder when you burn a CD, and the mere availability of such a folder to an older version of iP will trigger the error message, even if an appropriate Library folder is also available.
Or might you have backed up your data, including your original iP Library folder, to a drive that contained a newer version of iPhoto, and opened the library in that version while it was backed up on that drive? That would have caused the library to be updated, which would make it (and any copy of it) unreadable by iP 4.x.
Search your hard drive (the one with the newly-installed OS on it) for folders named "iPhoto Library". If you find any besides your main library, and you're confident that your main library couldn't have been updated by a newer iP version, you'll need to remove any newer-version libraries from the hard drive or disconnect (or eject) any storage medium that contains them, so iP 4 won't detect them and put up the error message.

  • Can't open iphoto after using My Publisher

I recently made a book on My Publisher.  Now I can not open iphoto since it says it is already in use.  It seems as if all my pictures have been captured by My Publisher.  What can I do.

Is the full error message "your photo library is in use by another program or has become unreadable"? Then maybe the second part of the error message is the problem.  Make a backup of your iPhoto library and rebuild it.
See this post by Old Toad on how to rebuild the iPhoto library in iPhoto '11:

  • Can't open iPhoto after upgrading to 11

I have just bought a new Mac Mini and have loaded up the iPhoto supplied with all my photos. I have just intsalled iPhoto '11 and now I get a message as follows:
"In order to open iPhoto, you need to update to the latest version. Please run Software Update to imstall it now."
As I have just installed the latest version I am a bit concerned about my photos and using the software. I have checked and all the other iLife updates - iMovie, etc. are all working fine.
    Can anyone help here?
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If Ric's suggestion doesn't work try this: backup the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Application Support/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.

  • Can't open iPhoto after upgraded to mavericks

After I updated to 10.9, the fan of my Macbook Pro keep spinning at high speed.
Secondly, I cannot open iPhoto which said I need to update the iPhoto to the latest version.
However, the app store does not have the update when I clicked the update button…
    Now , I cannot use iPhoto… even I re-install it from CD...

it was the most up-to-date iphoto 11 before I up to 10.9..
    It woundnt open
so I uninstalled it and re install it from iphoto 11 CD then it direct me to update to the latest version which does not exist in app store..

  • Can't open iPhoto after upgrade to 9.5

I installed the mavericks osx on macbook pro 2008. I then installed iphoto 9.5 from verson 7.1.5. I installed iphoto library ugrader and got a message it was "successful." When I now try to open iphoto I get these messages: "To open your library with this version of iphoto, it first nees to be prepared. To prepare the library use the iphoto library upgrader from Apple." How do I get out of this circle and get to my photos?

You might try the following while waiting for support to get back to you:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
