Can't open iphoto file to edit in Elements 10 even though external editor is set

Right clicking on iphoto file, selecting "edit in external editor" resullts in spinning beach ball.  Each attempt at opening a file initiates a reopening of Elements even though it is already opened.

Can you open images normally in Photoshop Elements?  I would recommend including this information as well as which verson of iPhoto and Mac OS you are using to the Photoshop Elements forum.  It might also possibly be a problem with iPhoto but the users in the Photoshop Elements forum should better be able to determine where the problem lies.

  • Can't Open ANY files to edit in Photoshop Elements 10

I have used Photoshop Elements 10 for about two years and had no problems. Suddenly today it won't open ANY files. Not from the desktop, and not even a blank file to start with. It acts like it is going to, I can choose the sizing for a blank file, but then nothing happens. Any ideas?? Thanks!

Quit the editor then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

The 60D requires Camera Raw 6.2 or later which is only compatible with Elements 9 or later.
    You can either:

use the free DNG converter to convert all Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in Elements 8

  • IPhoto updated and I can't open the files on my old computer

I tried to have all my information flow from my old computer to the new computer. Somewhere in the move my IPhoto program was updated and now I can't open that file on my old computer. I have deleted my old IPhoto preference pane under user, but I am unable to even find what update is now on my old computer. I found the preference pane had gone into a file folder for another program. I need to get the IPhoto folder corrected because I need to completely clear the info on the new computer, reload the original bundle and then try to move everything again. I hate to do all of this if I can't get the pictures moved somewhere that I can find them. ALSO - I can't find the photos on my new computer.

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
You should have an iPhoto program in the applications folder of your old computer and one in the applications folder of your new computer - please select each of those and report what version they are
And you should have an iPhoto library in the pictures folder of each computer - do you?
When you launch iPhoto on the old computer what does it say?
When you launch iPhoto on the new computer what does it say?
I need to completely clear the info on the new computer, reload the original bundle and then try to move everything again
Why do you need to do this?

According to the publisher For GoSystem Tax, the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer 8, 9, or 10 is required.  Which means it can't be accessed from an iPad.  This seems weird.  I would recommend you contact the publisher.

  • Can I open iPhoto 7.1.5 library with aperture 3.4.3?

Can I open iPhoto 7.1.5 library with aperture 3.4.3?

Is there any other workaround, such as exporting my iPhoto 7.1.5 library to some other format and then importing such format to Aperture 3.4.3? I will be grateful for any help with this odd situation.
How many photos are you talking about? If you have huge iPhoto Libraries, and have invested much work into organizing and adjusting your photos, you really will want to import your iPhoto library as Library. This way you will transfer your work, not only your photos.
If your library is small, and you do not mind to do all the organisation and adjusting again, you can export your photos from iPhoto 7 - create a folder in your "Pictures" folder and export your photos from iPhoto to this folder, one event at a time as separate folders of image files. You can either export the original images or the edited versions. If you have done much editing, export both, to save your originals. Then import these folders of image files into your Aperture library.
But if you have huge libraries to transfer and many years of editing to preserve, the sensible thing to do would be to invest into iPhoto 9.4.3 and to upgrade your iPhoto libraries to the new unified format. You will not only save your edits and library organisation, you will also save plenty of disk space, for you can import the edited versions and originals as master-version pairs and not have to deal with duplicates.
When did you buy Aperture? Do you have a serial key for Aperture, that can be used with the Aperture Trial version? Then you might consider to reinstall Aperture 3.2.4 from your backup (rename your current Aperture version while you are doing that) or to download the Trial and try to import your iPhoto library into a new Aperture library. Earlier Aperture versions could import older iPhoto libraries, but will import two image files (Version and original) for each iPhoto image. So you will end up with plenty of duplicate images that you will have to organize. (A link to the Trial is here: Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating).
As I said - to invest into iPhoto '11 will have a lot of advantages.

  • Can't open iPhoto Library after 7.1.5 update

    Hello.
I accidently updated my system while my iPhoto library was in a different folder. Now iphoto doesnt recognize it as my library, even though it still has the standard iPhoto library icon. I have iPhoto choose my library file, which is 900 mb, but it says it has zero photos!
I tried d/l'ing 7.1.4, but when I run the .pkg, it says a newer version of the software is installed, then quits. No duh!
    HELP Please :/
    Ron

    Ron:
First, to make sure you're opening the correct library launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, select Choose Library, navigate to your library, select and open it and then close.
Make a temporary backup copy of the library and run the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Can't open iPhoto (can't read/write)

    Hi all,
I had a hard drive meltdown on Sunday and the drive had to be replaced. iPhoto 7.1.2 was installed on my machine at that time (I've been using iPhoto for, oh, at least three years now) and then I got on a plane to Israel which is where I am for the next 2 months (no Apple stores in the whole country!)
I can't open iPhoto. When I click on the icon, nothing happens. I went to iPhoto info (by opening up Applications in the three-tiered view and clicking on "more info") and I see that the setting is set as: "Ownership and Permissions" and then "you can: [read/write]" is greyed-out.
More details: beneath that, it says: "Owner: [system]" (the name "system" is also greyed-out) and there's a little padlock icon next to that.
Can anyone here help me figure out how to get iPhoto to launch? The file is 174.2 MB, so clearly the program exists on my machine; I just can't get it to open. Thanks!

  • Can't open iphoto: but I never used a later version?

    Hi everyone,
I can't open iphoto now, it gives me some message about how I've edited my photos in a more recent version and thus need to update the software on my computer. The odd thing is that I've not been working in any other versions of iphoto or updated my computer in any way. It's like iphoto was working one day and not the next. I'm really scratching my head, now. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards
    TD
