  • Can't open iPhoto after downloading yosemite app

I have an IMac, and have recently downloaded the Yosemite app. Was not able to open iPhoto so I downloaded the iPhoto app. Now the slash on the iPhoto icon on the dock is gone, but when I try to open iPhoto I am directed to download the iPhoto app again, in an endless loop. Is anyone out there experiencing the same phenomena? How do get to my photos?

What version of iPhoto do you have?

Cannot open iPhoto after downloading Yosemite. I have upgraded to iPhoto 6.9 and have downloaded iPhoto upgrader 1.1 to no avail.

Did you go to your Applications/Utilities folder and actually double click on the updater to run it?

  • Can not open iphoto after downloading iPhoto Library Upgrader tool

can not open iphoto after downloading iPhoto Library Upgrader tool

I understand you used the  iPhoto Library Upgrader iPhoto '11 or later: About the Library Upgrader - Apple Support
try rebuilding the library: iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library - Apple Support
If it doesn't work, recover your iPhoto library from Time Machine: iPhoto '11: Restoring from Time Machine with iPhoto '11 (9.2 or later) and OS X Lion 10.7.2 (or later) - Apple Support

  • Cannot open iPhoto after downloading yosemite

After downloading Yosemite, I could not open iPhoto.
    OSX Yosemite 10.10
    1. Click on iPhoto icon
    2. pop-up opens stating "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared". I click "Learn more".
    3. Library Upgrader opens and I click on Download.
    4. I double click on the box icon in the new window.
    5.  "This tool prepares libraries from iPhoto 7 or earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto" opens in a new box. I click "continue"  and agree with the agreement.
    6. Click "install" in a new window and "install" again.
    7. "The installation was completed successfully" appears.
    8. I click on iPhoto icon and the process starts from the beginning.
I have tried this app. four times.

Locate your iPhoto library and then use the iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library - Apple Support link for instructions and then test.
If you still have troubles reset both the SMC and PRAM 2-3 times back to back. You can find instructions for this by clicking iMac SMC and PRAM reset
Post back with the results after rebuilding your library and doing the resets if you need to.

You need to update iPhoto to version 9.6 for Yosemite.
If you do not see an update on the AppStore Updates page, move the iPhoto application to the Trash (don't empty the Trash), then sign into the AppStore and download Photo from the main, "featured" tab. Type iPhoto into the search field.

  • Can't open firefox since downloading 5.0

I can open internet explorer; but since downloading firefox 5.0, I can't open it.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Can't open iPhoto since upgrading to Mavericks

I have a MacPro now running OS 10.9.2 which has been backed up regularly to an external drive using Time Machine. I've been using iPhoto for years, have thousands of photos in the library (all but the most recent saved to an external drive as a secondary backup).
When I tried to open iPhoto for the 1st time after the upgrade I gor an error message that says "The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it. iPhoto can try to repair the permissions."
I click on repair, get lots of spinning then get the message, "The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it."  I tried to find the library on the machine using a variety of search requests. "iPhoto library", "library", bring up nothing, spotlight simply finds the application.
What gives, and more importantly, what can I do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • I can't open Iphoto since I changed snowleopard into OS X 10.9.5

If I install it another time will I lose all my photos?

With Mavericks you need to install iPhoto 9.5.1, and that is not available from the App Store.
What happens, when you click the Purchase button for iPhoto 9.6. Does the AppStore offer a compatible version?
See:   App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
if that does not work, you an only upgrade to Yosemite, to be able to purchase a newer iPhoto version.  You can buy iPhoto '11 installers on DVD, but the updaters on Apple's Support page will only allow you to update to iPhoto 9.4.3:  see:  iPhoto 9 .4.3
Theres no download links for 9.5.1.

  • Can't open Numbers since downloading upgrade. Message: can't open during upgrade. It's over 24hrs since.

I selected the option to download the Numbers upgrade and left it to do it.  About an hour later I needed Numbers so tried to open the application but got a message saying the upgrade was in progress. Same several hours later.  I rebooted my Mac and tried again with the same result.  I went back to Upgrades & selected Numbers but it appears to have been installed yesterday so I can't re-install.

I wish I had a dollar for every person who claimed there was no way a file was saved in a later version only to find out it was.
If you post a link to it someone here will save it back for you.

  • Can't open firefox since downloading latest version but think it is running somewhere in background. just can't see it.

when I tried to import bookmarks into Google chrome from Firefox, I got message that I had to close Firefox 1st, which implies it did open; however I can't see it anywhere and I attempted many times to open it.

I had the same issue and resolved it
I first remove the prefs folder and the plist files for illustrator in ~/Libary
    next I logged off,
then I uninstalled illustrator using the adobe uninstaller(http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html)
    Next I reinstall illstrator
after that it worked for me.

  • Can't open iphoto after using My Publisher

I recently made a book on My Publisher.  Now I can not open iphoto since it says it is already in use.  It seems as if all my pictures have been captured by My Publisher.  What can I do.

Is the full error message "your photo library is in use by another program or has become unreadable"? Then maybe the second part of the error message is the problem.  Make a backup of your iPhoto library and rebuild it.

  • I downloaded yosemite as the new operating system but I can't find iphotos since then

I restored my mac to factory settings and downloaded yosemite as the new operating system but I can't find iphotos since then. When I go into Icloud it takes me to apple page. PLease help!
    <Re-Titled By Host>

1 - you need to update your profile as you state that you have OS X 10.6.3 in it
2 - for Yosemite you need to backup your iPhoto library and install iPhoto 9.6 from the App store - if you are upgrading from iPhoto '08 or earlier you need to also run the iPhoto Library upgrader prior to launching iPhoto 9.6
3 - Your photos are NOT in iCloud - it is not a place to store photos - it is only to move photos between devices (MyPhotoStream) or people (shared PhotoStreams) - they are (by default) in the iphoto library in your pictures folder - if you did not backup your iphoto library prior to erasing you disk then they are gone
