Can't open iTunes after installation

I get this message:
The folder "i Tunes" cannot be found or created and is required. The default location is inside the "My Music" folder.
I'm using Windows XP Home Edition, SP2.
I've tried creating a My Music folder in My Documents but iTunes seemed to ignore it.

iTunes uses a registry setting to determine the location of My Music. This article tells you how to fix it:

oddly enough, these ones typically respond better to brute force than they do to finesse. rather than uninstalling QuickTime first, try doing a standalone QuickTime 7.1.5 install "over the top" of what you've already got in there:

  • Can't open iTunes after migrating new computer

Can't open iTunes after migrating my old powerbook to my new macbook pro. Get the error message: "The file iTunes Library cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." Help!

Did you install the latest version of iTunes on the new PC? The usual reason for this is that you had a newer version on the old PC.
If you can't get it to work the simplest thing to do is to drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml from the iTunes folder to desktop.
Then start iTunes and use the following link to recreate your library.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
Note you already dragged the library files out of the iTunes folder.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components may allow you to install Apple Application Support.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

  • How can I open iTunes after recent update 01/25/2014

After installing the recent update for iTunes,  I can't open iTunes.  Tried to uninstall/reinstais missing, with same results.  I have received several error messages:  MSVCR80.dill is missing.  Please re-install, error 7 Windows error (126).
When will this corrupted download be fixed?  I can't access iTunes at all.

    Do the following:
Uninstall from Windows the following four programs: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support. You do this from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Download the latest version of iTunes from Apple and note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator, just Right click iTunes installer and Run as Administrator.

  • Can't open iTunes after accidently unplugging iPod--help!

Having problems opening iTunes after I accidently unplugged my 60G video iPod while it was loading. iTunes kind of froze, with the spinning beach ball, and I had to force quit to stop it. I restarted the computer for good measure, but now, when I try to open iTunes, I get the message:
"The iTunes Music Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
Of course, the library file is NOT locked, NOT on a locked disk, and I DO have write permission for the file.
Can anyone help with this matter?
    Thanks,
    Terry

Try running Disk Utility and perform a "Repair Permission".
Also check manually through finder the permissions on "iTunes" folder as well as on the files in that folder.

  • Can't open itunes after 7.7 upgrade

I can no longer open itunes after updating 7.7. Tried all normal tricks. Multiple reinstalls and restarts. I get "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" and asks if I want to send an error report to microsoft. I also tried downloading older versions of itunes (which worked fine before update) and get the same error message. Quicktime gets the same message too. I tried to uninstall that and a fatal error message came up and would not uninstall. Last but not least I had an "itunes helper has a problem ect." on a couple of my reinstalls. Read something about uninstalling boujour with no results.
Any fix or help would be appreciated. I'm not super computer guy...just so you know. Thanks

This sounds like your shortcut is still pointing to iTunes 7 (assuming you upgraded to version 8). Find the version 8 application and it should work.
The problem with the Mac version 8 is that it crashes consistently at startup, and the solution to that is ditching the new library files and reverting to the most recent version 7 library (copy from from the Previous iTunes Library directory and delete the date suffix).
There was a known issue with proxies settings in earlier versions of 7 that has apparently been reintroduced in version 8.
    Way to go, Apple.

  • Re: Can't open itunes after update.

I just updated my macbook pro to 10.8.2 with the newest update. Im pretty sure the only real update was the new itunes and a few other small things. After my Macbook pro installed the updates and restarted, I can no longer open itunes and when I try to an error message appears saying "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes." So i tried to go to apple.com and redownload itunes but it won't download. Has this happened to anyone else? Anybody have any tips?
    Thanks

What happens when you try to download it?

  • Can't open iPhoto after installation .Displays message :You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto

Can't open the program after Installing . Shows message " You can't open your current current photo library using this version of photo.
Made several attemps in fresh instalaltion without any success.

So I assume it is version 9.3, not sure?
Look at the application in the Finde, if you cannot launch it.
Select your iPhoto application in in the Applications folder and use the command "File > Get Info". What does the Info panel show in the "General" brick?
If it says 9.4.3, try to launch iPhoto by clicking the iPhoto icon in the Applications folder. Does that work?

  • Problems opening iTunes after installation - "QuickTime was not Found"

I am having trouble opening iTunes. Both iTunes and Quick time will download and install and I can open QuickTime without a problem, but when I open iTunes, I get the following error:
Open iTunes and an error opens:
"QuickTime was not found. QuickTime is required to run iTunse. Please uninstall iTunes and then install iTunes again."
I only have trouble when I am at home and not connected to my work network. I was able to start iTunes yesterday while in the office, but all my music is on my external hard drive at home. Not helpful!
I have tried about everything - uninstalled, reinstalled itunes and quick time, disabled bonjour, disabled the startup files, etc. I am still not having any luck.
    Any suggestions?

Both iTunes and Quick time will download and install and I can open QuickTime without a problem, but when I open iTunes, I get the following error:
    A bit unusual.
Did you do the QuickTime/iTunes install at work?
Is QuickTime still launching when you get the PC home?
(Wondering if something relating to the network at work have done odd things to QuickTime or iTunes registry entries ... possibly iTunes is looking for QuickTime on the wrong drive when you get the PC home, for example.)

  • Can't open iTunes after upgrade: Procedure entry point AVCFURLAssetInheritURIQueryComponentFromReferencingURIKey error

    Hi,
I am using Windows 7 Professional, and upgraded my iTunes yesterday to 11.3. When I attempt to open iTunes, I am getting two error messages:
iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point AVCFURLAssetInheritURIQueryComponentFromReferencingURIKey could not be located in the dynamic link library AVFoundationCF.dll.
I clicked OK, and get another error message:
iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.
    Error 7 (Windows error 127)
I reinstalled iTunes and still get the errors.
Is there a solution to this problem? I would hate to uninstall and start over --- especially if that won't fix the problem.
    Thanks.

Not an error message I recognise but the error has the same pattern as those in the first and third boxes suggesting that you've got an outdated .dll file that needs replacing. You should find the file in the Apple Application Support folder. Delete it and then repair Apple Application Support.
